Modifier Keys Reset After Switching User

So, I started using and external monitor, keyboard and mouse with my MBP at work. I am running into an issue with modifier keys. I can switch the command and option keys, but when I change to another user on my MBP, and then change back, the keys are back to their original position. Any ideas?

I'm having a similar problem...
in 10.5.8 and prior I had an aluminum pro keyboard connected to my macbook pro unibody 15. I disable the caps-lock modifier key because I don't use it.
Since the upgrade (not sure if it was 10.6 or 10.6.1 that caused it) I am not able to REenable the caps-lock modifier for the external keyboard only. All the settings for the macbook keyboard work as expected.
I also just noticed that there are three keyboards listed in the "Select Keyboard:" drop down menu. The first is the internal macbook (works fine), the 2nd is "Unknown External Keyboard" and the 3rd is Apple Keyboard. I don't know what the Unknown External Keyboard is as I've never had another keyboard attached. But it doesn't matter which of the 2nd two entried I try to adjust, it still doesn't affect the external aluminum keyboard.
No matter what i do, my external keyboard has the caps-lock modifier disabled (which normally is fine for me, but I have a need for it now)

It was caused by the USB dongle for my Logitech MX Revolution mouse. As soon as I unplugged it, the "Unknown External Keyboard" item disappeared and was able to use the modifier settings as normal. I hope you have the same situation!

Classic - Printer port (USB 1) disappears after switching User

I have used an Epson SP785EX on my iMac G5 under OSX 10.3 for months without trouble. I upgraded to OSX 10.4.8 and are constantly loosing this printer expecially when printing from Classic. After having tried everything including resetting the printing system it is still not clear what exactly causes the loss of the USB Port. However it may have to do with restarting or switching users. When in the chooser after selecting the original Epson Printer driver (which I have reinstalled many times) the Port (USB 1) does not show in the 'choose printer port list' (nothing at all shows). I have also tried the 'LaserWriter 8' solution which I do not understand. Perhaps someone can explain or point me to some literature. LaserWriter 8 shows in the Chooser but again nothing shows on the right pane of the Window. I am stabbing in the dark with this. Any help will be apprecated.

The printing subsystem changed considerably between Panther & Tiger. In Panther, you had to have a working OS 9 driver in order to print from Classic. This caused problems, particularly with certain HP printers which had OS 9 drivers which were not properly coded, and with newer printers which did not have and never would have OS 9 drivers.
In Tiger, things have changed. The default driver is the LaserWriter driver. You don't have to do anything, not even select the driver. The print system will print to the LaserWriter driver and the LaserWriter will print to the OS X driver for your printer. (This, of course, means that there must be an OS X driver for that printer...)
After having
tried everything including resetting the printing
system it is still not clear what exactly causes the
loss of the USB Port.
Classic does not have direct access to hardware, including USB ports.
However it may have to do with

Just print, normally. The LW8 dialog box will pop up. You can then select the printer you want to use. (I have several printers on my system, two HP inkjets, a Brother laser, a label printer, a fax modem, and Adobe PDF)
1 type cmd-p or however you normally print
2 select the printer from the pull-down menu on the LW8 dialog
3 print
4 the system will hand off the print job to the proper OS X print queue, which will then print the file. If you're printing in color to a color printer, you'll get color output. If you're printing to Acrobat Distiller, you'll get a PDF. If you're faxing, you'll get the fax dialog so you can enter your dialing & cover sheet info.
Perhaps someone can explain or point me to some
literature. LaserWriter 8 shows in the Chooser but
again nothing shows on the right pane of the Window.

Adobe Flash slows down after switch user in Windows

I'm writing automatic behaviour test to Adobe Flash Game and when I switch user in Windows (noone is logged on account but Flash process is still working), performance Adobe Flash is slowing down. Is there a way to bypass this problem?

Download the current 32 uninstaller Uninstaller for 32 bit Operating Systems
Close all browser windows and run the uninstaller
Restart Windows
Delete all remaining files and folders located in the following directories. (tip: copy and paste these paths into the path bar in a Windows Explorer window)
C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash
%appdata%\Adobe\Flash Player
%appdata%\Macromedia\Flash Player
Verify that the file “FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl” in C:\Window\system32\ for 32 bit systems has been deleted.
Download the following files:
32 bit Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
32 bit Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
Physically disconnect from the Internet and run the files.

Safari opens google with mobile view after switching User Agent

Hello, as from the discussione title, i had to switch safari's user agent from the default to Safari iOS 5.1 - iPhone for changes to m.google.com/sync i had to make on my WP8. After the changes were done, i ticked user agent back to default, but now when i open google homepage it opens me the mobile version of google and i have to click on CLASSIC in order to make it work. What's wrong?

Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. Test.

Why are mouse settings defaulting after 'switch user'?

change mouse settings from default for user A
switch to user B
switch back to user A
changes to mouse settings have been wiped and the default mouse settings restored
What is causing this and how can I prevent it from happening?
I've tried various things with user A like logging off entirely, rebooting, even making other changes in the settings that require an admin password in the hope that this might force some sort of admin override

Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold the option key down and click the "Go" menu in the Finder menubar.
Select "Library" from the dropdown, then "Preferences" folder.
Look for these two files.
com.apple.desktop.plist
com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Right click each one of those and select " Move To Trash" from the contextual menu.
Restart the computer.

Height of Tabs Bar reduced after switching user

I'm using Firefox 29.0.1 on Windows 8.1. I have 2 user accounts on my computer. Both accounts are mine and I sometimes switch between them. However, when I switch between accounts and return to the original one the height of the Tabs Bar is reduced.

For that matter, I've noticed I don't even have to log in to another account. All I have to do to reproduce this bug is do as if I'm switching to another user but instead sign back in to the same user account.
How do I report a bug? Is this the correct venue for reporting bugs?

As far as I know, this is a minor kink in Firefox's new Australis interface. I'm not sure if the bug has been filed yet; Mozilla's bug-files can be found [https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ here].
For now, you can try to fix Firefox temporarily by clicking "Restore Down" (the button to the left of the orange Windows "Exit" button) and then clicking it again. I'm sorry that it's not a permanent fix; it's the best I can do. Stay tuned on this thread, though; other Firefox Support members might have better information.

I switched my Command and Option keys over a year ago, but now even when I'm in System Preferences>Keyboard>Modifier Keys and I switch them back and forth from Restore Defaults to the way I had them, nothing changes. I deleted /username/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.HIToolbox.UUID.plist and logged off and back on, but that didn't work. Any suggestions?

Flash Player Installs but Uninstalls When Switching Users

I use Vista Business on my home computer. We have multiple users on our computer. I do not have a problem installing the Flash Player, but when we switch users or restart the computer, the player does not work. We used IE7 and recently IE8 and Flash 10.0.22.87.
After switching users or restarting, when we visit a website that needs flash, we get a message that we don't have flash. If we immediately follow the link to download flash, we get the message that installation was successful but the completion movie does not show. We have to close the browser to reinstall from the abobe website.
We have a temporary fix. We double click on FlashUtil10b.exe in C:\windows\system32\Macromed\Flash. That works until the next time we switch users or restart the computer.
The player does not stop working if a single users exits IE and then opens it later.
I have tried the troubleshooting methods in Abode Support.

You get this message when trying to back up to iCloud? That error message is normally associated with backing up to your computer using iTunes, not backing up to iCloud. Check Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup to be sure iCloud Backup is turned On at the bottom.

Date modified timestamps resetting on login (mouse user preferences reset)

Hi,
Using network accounts on 10.8.2 off a 10.8.2 server.
All files in user directory have 'date modified' timestamps reset to login time.
This occures for all users.
This I believe is also causing mouse user preferences to be reset on login.
Has anyone come across this problem?
I migrated from 10.7.4 Server to 10.8 Server
Any ideas anyone?

I am just "happy" to see that I'm not the only one having the exact same trouble.
The "date modified" resets to last login time, user preferences (particularly some of the trackpad, keyboard and dock prefs) are thrown away and in part reset to some default values.
My setup is various iMacs with their HomeDirectories on the server, all machines with 10.8.2 (Server) installed.
Could Apple help?

Triggering switch user window after delay

Is there a way to automatically bring up the switch user window after a delay (like a screen saver)? One thing I actually like about XP is how it goes to the login screen automatically after the screen saver (but doesn't actually log out the user). I know if I put a password on my Mac screen saver I can force people to open the switch user window manually, but this seems like an unnecessary step.

Lose System Alert Sound after Fast User Switching

After switching between accounts a few times I lose all alert sounds from all applications, including the Finder. I can still play music, hear audio from movies, etc., but any alert sound is now silenced. Anyone else know a fix for this?

I don't have a solution, but I thought I'd mention
I'm having the same problem where the alert sounds
(Finder, Mail, etc.) can no longer be heard so that
the "powers that be" can see that it's a growing
problem and perhaps find a resolution.
I didn't notice this problem until I recently
upgraded to 10.4.4, but I may have simply not noticed
with 10.4.3 since I've always got my iTunes cranked
up.

I had no problem until 10.4.4 and I do not switch users. But having some knowledge of Unix, I went digging, and I tried a Force Quit on the system process "coreaudiod". Can be found in Activity Monitor - select all processes. iChat started sounding again on its own, and a restart of Mail got it going again. This worked for me (tired of re-booting to fix).

If he is an iPhone user it will send a iMessage to u because that is what his phone is use to so he will have to hold his sent iMessage down and click send as text message and it should send to ur new phone hope it helps

Strange Graphics issue on switching users after awaking from sleep

As the title says... Here's the scenario:
I logon to my MBP, do some work, then put it to sleep.
My girlfriend comes along, and opens up the MBP. My logon details are presented to her, so she presses "Switch User".
When she does this, the MBP goes really funky. Loads of strange colors, some small areas of my logged in desktop appear, then loads of white cubes appear.

This happened on my iMac G5 and had the logic board and display replaced to no avail. Only happened when switching users.
Not happening on my MacBook Pro ... so far....and hope it stays like that.
Someone also said it might be to do with bad capacitors.

New users with Global Password Policy requiring password "reset on first user login" are still prompted to reset password after entering incorrect password

The setup:
We have the option "Password must: be reset on first user login" enabled in the Global Password Policy on our 10.9 / Mavericks server. We import new user accounts into Open Directory via a delimited text file and include a default password for each user.
What I've observed and tested:
When a user attempts to log into a computer that's bound to our Open Directory for the first time, they can enter anything in the password field and still receive the prompt to reset their password. They are never notified that they entered their default password incorrectly. The password reset will then fail (as it should), but they still aren't notified that this is the reason for the password reset failure. To put it another way: Seeing the prompt to reset your password would reasonably imply that you entered the default password correctly, but that's not the case at all.
The question:
Is this expected behavior? If it is, it doesn't seem logical. If this was the case in OS X Server 10.3 through 10.7 I never noticed it. Can anyone corroborate this with their own setup? Thanks in advance.

- Did the accounts in .x have any custom password policies set?
For a "new" and a migrated entry, can you check if a passwordpolicysubentry is configured?
(search as directory manager and fetch the attribute)
