Modifier Keys will not work in Apple applications

I am very puzzled by this problem. The shift, command, option , and caplock keys have no effect in any Apple program. They work fine in other applications like photoshop, illustrator, neo office, firefox and thunderbird.
I reinstalled the tiger 10.4.3 update, repaired permissions, and used diskwarrior from another hard drive.
The other strange thing is that the Dashboard icon no longer appears in the dock.
Logged in as a different user and there is no problem. Is there a preference file that I need to remove?

Yes Application Enhancer is a very update sensitive program. When installing anything from http://www.haxies.com/ also known as http://www.unsanity.com/ and the sites which depend on their software, always verify that your addons to the Finder are compatible with a future system update before updating to the new system.

Call AppleCare and get it replace if it's under warranty; otherwise, get a new one. They're only $49 USD.

Product key will not work with this edition of Windows 7

I received a product key for Windows 7 Professional N whilst I was at University via Dreamspark. I'm building a new computer and when it's come to inputting the product key, it comes up saying Product key will not work with this edition of Windows 7.
The version I installed was Windows 7 Professional using an iso and a USB. I rang the phone activation number and when I got through to a representative, I gave him the product key and he said it is valid and should be working. He transferred me to technical
services but instead I got cut off.
At this point I'm really not sure what the issue is, the key was for Windows 7 Professional N, I installed Windows 7 Professional and customer support confirmed it as a valid key. Am I missing something?

Modifier Key Mapping Not Working

When I'm at home, I connect my MacBook Pro to a 24" LCD, along with an external keyboard and mouse. One of the small features I was looking forward to in Leopard was not having to go into System Preferences and switch the modifier keys to correctly work with my external keyboard, but I've discovered that the feature isn't working. I choose "USB Receiver" from the keyboard drop-down, re-map the Option and Command keys, click OK, and close SysPrefs. Nothing has changed; the Command key on my keyboard is still performing as Option and Option is still Command. When I go into the Keyboard & Mouse section of SysPrefs, the Modifier Keys pane is back to it's default values. I'm wondering if this is a bug in 10.5 that will be fixed with 10.5.1, or if it's just my keyboard. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

On my Powerbook, I have to swap the modifier keys under the "All" setting to make the change take effect on the external USB keyboard I'm using. Changing modifier keys on just the "DELL USB KEYBOARD" (in my particular case) has no effect.
It's just a minor annoyance (having to reset my modifier keys back to defaults when I need to use the built-in keyboard), but all the same the feature doesn't appear to work as it should.
Or is it just me?

Wireless key will not work

I just moved my mac mini to my new apartment and my wireless keyboard will not work. My man mini model is A1103. The problem is that I need to type in a password to get on my mac to get to the bluetooth config screen. So I'm stuck at the login screen with a keyboard that just blinks. Its also my TV so im goin nuts. PLZ help.

If you know someone with an USB keyboard, borrow it and use it to input the password. It doesn't need to have been made by Apple or designed to be used with a Mac.

CS6 Photoshop; Shortcut Action Key will not work

On my Mac I have Adobe Photoshop installed and I created an action for a watermark for my images.
It works just fine when I manually press the play button, however the shortcut key, that I've assinged as Shift + F2, will not work. I've tried different combinations and nothing is working.
Any suggestions on what I can do to so it will work?

Figured it out, it's because I had to press fn along with Shift + F2

Fn key is not working on Apple compact wireless keyboard

The fn key is not working on my Apple compact wireless keyboard. Keyboard Viewer shows the keyboard (incorrectly) as having a number pad but no fn key. How do I fix this? I'm running OSX 10.5.8.

Unfortunately my old Mini does not have wireless capability. So I could not test the keyboard.
I did however find two preferences files. I suggest you find them and trash them.
Disconnect the keyboard first. Then find the two .plist files. They are:
com.apple.KeyboardViewerServer.plist - this is in Users / yourself / Library / Preferences.
The other is: com.apple.keyboardtype.plist - this is in Library (root level) / Preferences.
After trashing both these, it's a good idea to restart the computer, and then once again pair the keyboard.

Internet not working through Apple applications, but ok in firefox?

I'm having trouble with my internet connection through Apple software on my computer. It started a few days ago, I don't think any changes have been made to my network.
Basically if I try to connect to the internet in Safari, Mail, iTunes, Dashboard or anything else that's an Apple program, it doesn't work at all. It spends a huge amount of time "Loading..." and sometimes will eventually come up with the information but usually times out.
However, if I use Firefox - which I had luckily installed on my computer - all pages and everything load instantly.
I connect to the internet through an Airport which we bought three months ago. The Airport connects to a modem which connects to the line.
What is wrong and how do I fix it?? I much prefer using Safari and I'm dying because I can't get into the iTunes store!!

Firefox is one of the few applications that maintain their own 'Proxy'-settings and do not use the general 'Proxy'-settings of OSX like all the other apps you mentioned to not work.
Check the Proxy-settings of Firefox against the general OSX ones.

Modifier Keys suddenly not working with Numberpads

I favor the use of a numberpad and as such i have been using a third party USB Numberpad. I also have a Apple wired keyboard that comes with the number pad.
All these while, the modifier keys (shift, alt, ctrl) works with the numberpad and the numberpad section of the apple keyboard. Somehow, recently, not sure when, it no longer works.
I've tried to reset default on the modifier key section but it just doesn't work... This is really frustrating. the only thing i remember installing lately is "bettertouchtool" and buying a magic mouse.
Bettertouchtool is not usually running unless i choose to run it, so i'm not sure how that affecs it, not am i sure if totally removing it via a third party app helps.
Appreciate HELP! PLEASE!

i am having the same problem. It just started a few days ago. Im thinkin its a problem with the most recent update. Im goin to contact apple to let them know. I'll post again when i hear something. If anyone figures it out before then please let us know!

Satellite - randomly the arrow keys, question mark key and z key will not work

Sometime the arrow keys, question mark and z key work fine (like now) and sometimes they just don't work at all (like a minute ago). I will just be typing and they will work and then just stop working, then work again. They either all work or all do not work. This has been happening since about a week after I got the computer. It is so annoying. Can you please help me fix this problem? I have a Satellite T135-S1309.

I've posted recently about keyboard problem, and have tried everything as everybody else, finally and oddly :-) the solution for my problem was to reconnect little flat cable that connects keyboard and MB :-D shown in step 10 on the following link:

..so maybe your keyboard somehow strangely detached itself from mother-board just a bit and started creating all sorts of strange problems as mine... one cable line was without contact because flat cable was not attached properly anymore and mentioned keys stop working... I have also downloaded keyboard tester software that helped me find all keys and combination of keys that stop working ... so guys, try that and good luck!

Volume keys will not work with incoming calls on headphones

So the headphone that came with my iPhone 4s, and others of the same type I have used, will not allow me to lower the volume of the caller. I would be listening to my music or something, it could even be at 50% volume, however the incoming call pushes it to 100% and will not allow for my headphone or iPhone volume control turn down the call. I have to unplug my headphones and just talk on the phone its self in order to turn down the volume.
This problem was first noticed in iOS 6, and is contiued into iOS 7. I do not recal it happening in iOS 5.

TTY was on after going through the settings one by one. They need to explain what TTY is within the settings menu. I have been useing TTY for 2 years now not knowing it.

I have an iMac 8.1, OSX 10.6.8 with XP running in Boot Camp partition. My USB keyboard (MB110LL/A) was damaged by water. I ordered a new keyboard from the Apple Store. I was sent model MB110LL/B. Special function keys will not work in XP. Any Ideas?

I have an iMac 8.1, OSX 10.6.8, Boot Camp 3.2 running Windows XP. My original keyboard (MB110LL/A) was damaged by a water spill. I ordered a new one from the Apple Store. They sent me MB110LL/B, function keys need updated drivers (Boot Camp 3.3) which will only install if Windows 7 is installed. I have a large amount of older software that runs under XP but not Windows 7. The Apple support team basically said "too bad". If they replace a keboard model with a new model, they should at least make it backwards compatable or provide a Boot Camp update that will allow this model to work on older iMacs. Reloading Bootcamp 3.3 several times has no effect because it does not detect Windows 7. Any Ideas or help would be appreciated.

It is free. It is beta. It works well - I use it on mine and two PCs as well...
MS Security Essentials will no longer install due to compatibiliity issues - that is the idea of a beta - and the RC could be out in June.
Windows 7 doesn't work great on any Mac, or Apple drivers, fan cvontrol to manage heat, and other issues.
Put 8 in and get to know it, then when the RC comes out you'll be ready
