Modify Captivate 5.5 & 6 videos in Captivate 7

We have many Captivate 5.5 and 6 videos. Are we able to modify these videos using Captivate 7?

Yes you can, but once you open and edit them in Cp7 you will not be able to edit them again in Cp 5.5. Some project files upgraded to Cp7 can still be opened in C6 but it is not recommended to try editing them any longer in earlier versions of Captivate.

How do I modify the Long Description of video files, so that it shows up when on the iPad or using Home Sharing?

The content manually inserted into the Description field in iTunes does not display in either the iPad Video App nor when using Home Sharing. I then used MetaX to populate the Long Description field, which one cannot modify directly in iTunes. However, the descriptions still do not show up on either the iPad or when using Home Sharing. The problem is only with TV shows that I ripped from legitimate DVDs; items bought from iTunes seem to work fine. So I opened up a file bought on iTunes with MetaX, and the Long Description field is not even populated leading me to believe Apple had that information stored elsewhere. This is getting so frustrating, and Apple customer care does not seem to care.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Where has Apple hidden the long descriptions for TV shows that do show up on Home Sharing? Is there other 3rd party software that may fix the problem? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

Modifying output file to access video file

I have a project in multiple languages. One of the topics
accesses several video files (.html). Due to the multiple
languages, these video files, including the underlying .swf and
AC_RunActiveContent.js files, are located on the installation CD in
every language folder causing too many CDs. To reduce the number of
CDs, we'd like those files on the CD once.
I talked to RoboHelp support and the only way to accomplish
this is to modify the path in the output file....redirecting it to
a parent folder. This worked on image files but doesn't with the
video files. When I test it, I'm getting runtime errors. The only
reference listed in the output file is the .html file; there's no
code referencing the underlying .swf or.js files. Does anyone know
if there's some other embedded path somewhere that needs to be
modified to make this work?

Just open the original project FLA, file->export movie->AVI (uncompressed) and set the dimensions as you mentioned. After you get the movie exported from flash, convert that AVI (already the proper size) to the format you need.
If you have the Adobe Suite then you have Adobe Media Encoder. It supports MPEG2 (HDV-HD1 is just a specific set of settings for MPEG2). It's pretty darn easy to set up. No reason to pay for more software if you already have it.

Date modified for random songs and videos continuously changes

Using iTunes Match and iMac, MacBook Pro, iPhone 5 and iPod 2 - random songs and videos have modification dates reset; I used to be able to find newest added files by sorting by modification date and now it is entirely random. Also, I got 40 plus copies of two random CDs on MacBook Pro, as though Match just keeps Matching and adding the same tracks.

I have the same problem. Mac OS 10.5.3. Intel iMAC core duo. When I upgraded to iTunes 7.6.2 all of my playlists went grey. Both Music and Movie Playlists.
I installed the latest version of quicktime which did not fix the video playlist greyed out issue as noted in other areas of the support forums.

On e peut pas changer facilement et simplement le texte d'une vidéo. Pour le changer il faudrait avoir téléchargé le projet Première ou Aftereffects.
Si le fond qui entoure le texte n'a pas beaucoup d'importance, tu peux dans Première ou After effects importer ta vidéo, créer par dessus un masque de couleur proche de celle qui entoure le minuteur et qui cachera le minuteur. Ensuite tu peux ajouter ton texte par dessus avec AE ou avec un élément Titre dans Premiere.

Captivate 8 - Video Problems

I'm in entirely new territory with C8 - I've got an animation that I made in After Effects, rendered to an MP4 format. I want to include it in my C* project. Here's my issues:
1 - I tried just importing the video straight into the project via Media > Video. I chose "Event Video," and pulled the file from my computer. This works fine, accept - it creates an uneditable skin (play bar) around the video, and the video will not play automatically when that slide is activated. I don't want this - I don't want extraneous playbars in my project, forcing the user to play a video (which they have the control to skip over if they don't want to watch it). The video HAS to be viewed, and the client wants it to play automatically.
So - I tried:
2 - Adding the video to the PowerPoint presentation from which this project is being made. The PPT presentation was brought into C8 the normal way; I then imported the video to the slide in the PPT presentation, and updated the presentation in the C8 library. Seemed simple enough, but not the video won't play at all. When I test the project and get to that slide, there's just a black space where the video should be. It plays in the PPT presentation, however. Not sure why it's not playing in C8?
So - I tried this:
3 - I took the video out of PPT, updated the link in C8, and then imported the video back into C8 via Media > Video. THIS TIME I chose, "Multi-slide synchronized video." I chose: Progressive Download from the "Video Type" drop down; then, Stage from the "Show Video On" drop down; then I chose, "Modify slide duration to accomodate video." THIS WORKS - HOWEVER - the video doesn't play all the way through. The slide duration matches the video (8 seconds), and everything on the timeline for that slide matches up. Why won't this video play all the way through?
So I'm looking for suggestions to make this work, or maybe clues as to what I'm doing wrong with the three options I chose. Anyone?

I'd personally insert it as an event video. Once you do that and look at the properties, you should see an auto-play option as well as an option to remove the skin.

Exit button issue in Captivate 5

Hi,
This is regarding the exit button on the playback controls. I have been using Captivate from version 2. Recently, started using version 5. When I published my simulation, the exit button is not working as earlier. It is also not working from- web server(IIS, Apache), when opened as pop-up as well. In local too however not working. I tried in both IE 7 and Firefox latest version.
I have seen the response from Adobe on this issue on this forum. It was quite surprising; it did not talk about the solution at all;
What I am not sure about is -
1. Why the exit button was working earlier versions.. why is it not working in latest?
2. Why should when simple code like top.close(); works fine (when coded inside the Captivate)?
3. Why is Adobe not acknowledging the issue?
4. Why there is no working around provided in the forums for this issue?
Could anybody please help me understanding this problem? I am really frustrated.

You are absolutely correct! The moment reporting is activated, the EXIT no longer functions. Although in my case, we are not using the time/slider bar but custom navigation buttons with an exit button on the last slide (and at the top of each slide).
This whole EXIT button issue (not just Cp 5 but Cp 6 as well) is nearly bringing me to the point of tears! This is really ridiculous! I am in a tough position right now where my manager may be wondering if I am right person for this job because I cannot make a little EXIT button work in our lessons.
"Solutions" or excuses that I have received
- Just remove the EXIT button -- No, we use a standard corporate template which hundreds of employees are already familiar with. To remove the EXIT button and instruct the learner to just close the browser would be unacceptable and a rather inelegant way to exiting a lesson.
- It is a tough issue that isn't Captivate's fault
With all due respect to the awesome person who keeps stating that, I have a feeling that you have not used other rapid elearning tools. Building an EXIT button in all the other major elearning tools is easy and works every time.
The source of my personal difficulty is that every other course that was built by previous developers (not using Captivate), all open in a child window and all have a working EXIT button.
I believe the PRIMARY reason for this problem might be in the fact that... inexplicably... Captivate does not offer an option to start a lesson in a CHILD window (i.e. separate browser window). This is why no javascript in the world will allow the tab to close (e.g. EXIT button). Closing a tab or browser window via javascript only works when the same instance was previously opened by a script using the window.open method. In other words, you can only use the javascript method to close an instance that was spawned via javascript.
This should explain why lessons published in Lectora (et al) always have working EXIT buttons every time and in every browser (minor exception is Opera for unrelated reasons).
The second red box is just another one of my problems with Captivate 6 (not related to this topic).

I've been racking my brain trying to modify Captivate's HTML/javascript in order to carry over the AICC (or SCORM - same process) variables into a child window.
Like another participant stated, you can't simply rename the original index.html to index2.html and create a redirection like this:

Yes, I tried this as well... but unfortunately, it breaks the AICC to LMS connection. *BUT* I can promise one thing... using the above redirection, does guarantee that your EXIT button works every time! Pity the LMS connection breaks!

Video stuck in Mini-Loops

On Captivate 7- I am importing FLV videos onto slides ( multi-slide synchronized video- modify slide duration to accommodate video). Problem: when published, many participants are finding that some (not all) of the slides will experience getting locked into a mini- loop, where the slide will play for 10 seconds, then skip back and replay that 10 seconds over and over. It does not happen to everyone, or even at the same spot. In fact someone could watch the entire module and it will play fine, and the next time they get stuck in a min-loop. What can be causing this and any ideas as to how to correct it?

How to modifiy the speed of a video in Labview (VLC ?) in function of datas (simulated) !

I want to change the speed of a video in Labview. Unfortunaletly, The VLC ActiveX does not function in my version of Labview.
Is there any other program I don't know and which is able to modify the speed of a video ?
If no, what is the way to do what i want ? Is it possible to program it in Labview ?

CP 6.0.1.240, Background Music, & Slide Video

Hello All,
I have a CPTX project which is a marketing type piece. It introduces our new software features, has images, text background music and two slides in which I have inserted video. These videos were imported as:
MP4
Multi-Slide Synchronized Video
Video Type: Progressive Download
Modify Slide Duration to Accomodate Video
There is a moment right before the video starts in which there is a spinning arrow that appears as the video is loading and during that same time, the background music skips.
I would love to make the video play in a more seamless fashion and without user interaction. I would love to get rid of both the pre-loading pause and skip in the music but will settle for just getting rid of the skip in the music as that is a more obtrusive interruption for the user.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

UPDATE: When I finally published the video to YouTube, the hiccup or pause on the background audio seems to have resolved. It was very evident in previewing the project and not noticeable once published to YouTube. I have a new issue now as it relates to pausing but not of the audio of the video itself. I will be posting a new thread for that.

If you want a different aspect ratio than 16:9 in a 16:9 project, or 4:3 in a 4:3 project, you could select your whole timeline and turn it into a compound clip and add the Widescreen effect to the compound clip. You can also use the Color Board to modify the colours throughout the video at the same time.
I've made a widescreen title generator effect with many more aspect ratios that is a free download from my blog.
You attach it to a clip in your timeline, and change the start and end point to match the duration of your project. It adds the widescreen matte to every storyline below it in the timeline.

Ideas for mixing video camera audio??

I know there is not one way to modify the audio from a video camera. I have a (dead room sound, not quiet a hiss); are there any recommendations to modify the sound quality? Everyone tells me that you I have to play around with it... But I have no ideas of where to start???

How someone would decide what adjustments needed to be made is entirely dependent on the condition of the audio as it is. And since we can't hear it, the best advice anyone could offer is just a guess.
You could upload a sample to a website then post a link here so people would be able to hear how it sounds now and then be able to offer more specific suggestions.

Video capture - SnapzPro best option?

I have been using SnapzProX to capture video from my desktop. It works pretty much as advertised but I notice a loss of quality from the original and it slows my machine to a crawl. Does anyone know of a better option for grabbing video from a portion of the computer desktop? I understand QT only allows for capturing the entire screen.

As far as I can tell, SnapzPro dos not offer any way of modifying the options for grabbing video.
After stopping your recording, a window opens that allows you to set the audio and/or video compression format(s) in which to save your "source" file for later editing as needed/desired. For example...
I have no idea what compression algorithms they use.
I believe the original default is Apple Animation. In my example, I switched to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) because the newer versions of iMovie have a problem exporting this compression format after editing.
You just click on a box and it captures whatever you're looking at. At least, that's all I've discovered in using it. The interface is very simple and the preferences list is short.
The number and type of compression formats available are dependent on your system's specific QT component configuration.
To be clear, this is about grabbing live video from my desktop, not capturing video that I am importing from another device.
I too am referring to Snapz Pro X which I use to create "quickie" video tutorials. If you have not already done so, I suggest you re-read the manual paying particular attention to the section that begins on Page 44 ("Video Settings").

Flash video not showing on website after upload

I created a short flash video using Flash8 and used
DreamWeaver8 to insert it into my web page. I can preview the page
in any browser using the "preview in browser" function of
DreamWeaver. It plays perfectly. However, when I upload the page to
my website the modified web page appears but there is nothing where
the Flash Video should be.
I upload in the following manner: Since I do all my web site
construction while away from the home server, I use my laptop to
modify things and then use a remote signin to my home computer that
is hosting the website which gives me access to my home computer's
(My Server) website folders. I then move a copy of the modified
page containing the Flash Video, the Video.swf file, and the
Video.fla file into the website files on the home server.
Why wont it play?

Hi I have a similar problem, imported a medium res flv clip
into flash, the clip is about 1Meg, works fine when playing back
the local flash site but does not work via server. A very simple
flash site with content all in same directory? using MX 8

Audition CS6 Video Exporting

Hi!
I'm working with Audition CS6 to modify the audiotrack of a video, but it seems not to allow me to export a video format file when I'm finished. I've tried installing lots of codecs and stuff, but nothing. I see a "export file" setting, but it only works for audio tracks. Is it really not posible to export a video file with the new modified audio?

That´s possible with Audition 3.0, but in wmv format (and avi format)... Maybe appears soon an update with this missing feature... in CS7 version??? :O
P.S.: I think we all need Adobe Premiere Pro, to export video files from Audition CS6.
