Modify default composition start frame?

Is it possible to modify the default start frame number of 0 that is used
when dropping a footage item on the "Create Composition" icon?
I know I can create a new composition instead of dragging to the icon,
and the Composition Settings menu does remember the last start frame
number I entered, and I know that once a default sequence is created I
can use the Composition Settings menu to set the start frame, but I would
like to be able to set the default start frame number to 1 instead of 0.

Right, sorry. You won't unless you have After Effects CS5.5. I didn't explain that, and my brain has been working with CS5.5 for so long now that it didn't occur to me that you weren't. Source timecode support is a new feature in CS5.5.

I disagree. Totally worth a feature request. That's not to say it will happen, but that we always want your feedback no matter how small the request. I can assure you that every submission is read and considered.

SOAInvokerBean not binding to default composite when new version is coming

Hello,
we are using SOAServiceInvokerBean in order to invoke composite form Java application.
We are using SOA Suite 11.1.1.1.5 (PS4)
This is working but when we redeploy a new default version (2.0) of the original (1.0) called composite, invocation of the composite trought SOAServiceInvokerBean invoke the old composite (1.0) and not the new default version (2.0)
Is that the expected behavior ?
Getting a new instance of the SOAServiceInvokerBean from the context doesn't solve anything. We have to restart the soa_server in order for SOAServiceInvokerBean to bind to the new version (2.0).

In fact we are using [SDO-Based Enterprise JavaBeans Client to Invoke Oracle SOA Suite|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/integration.1111/e10224/sca_sdo_ejb.htm#CCGFEIIC] as indicated in "Developer's Guide for Oracle SOA Suite".
As far as I know, there is no way to specify the version as API is
serviceFactory.createService("MyTestEJBService", HelloInterface.class);So even if rebinding to the default version was performed, there is no way to specify the version form the API. From my point of view this is a missing feature.
For a workaround, I start to explore a way using the oracle.soa.management.facade.Locator in order to search for Composite with default version property then query services of this composite and get the "versioned" service name and then use this name in the “createService” function.
But this method would require the service name to be unique so it would require to modify the composite to introduce an version pattern in the service name like
MyTestEJBServicev1.0
MyTestEJBServicev1.1
MyTestEJBServicev2.0
This is not very good as we are losing functionality to easily deploy a new version (with Jdev integration or through soa ant task) due to multiples modifications required in the composite.
Maybe you have a better way to invoke a composite using some easy way as SDO (in order to not manage the heavy "String" XML message and just stick to java objet) but allowing to specify the version.
We also think about exposing the composite thought a web service (but introducing small security issues as we have to secure this url from outside the server) then use a web-service wrapper (like JAX-WS) in java and invoke the composite like this.

AE CC not overriding start frame preference with Timecode..

Hi all,
Just trying out After Effects CC and loaded an Animation Quicktime. I've set my project preference to FRAMES and START AT FRAME 1, but it refuses to acknowledge and insists on starting on frame 184716, which I presume it's taking from whatever timecode was possibly embedded in the quicktime.
I do not want this behaviour.. I need frame ONE to be FRAME ONE, I'm importing tracking data that has these frame numbers encoded.
I'll have to revert back to CS6 until this can be resolved.

That worked. But in all my many years of working with AE (on PC's since 1996), I've never set the start frame from the composition... always had it set in PROJECT PREFERENCES. Even in AE CS6 this still works the way it used to... with Project Preferences set to FRAMES and start frame 1, anything I loaded up was always starting on Frame 1.
Now with CC, they've added this new requirement... but, at least you got me on the right path.
Thanks for such a quick response! Highly appreciated! (I went back to CS6 for this particular shot and it's done, but now I'll resume the brave new world of CC and see what else they've changed on us.)
Was already disappointed to find out that I could not import all my OUTPUT MODULES from CS6 into CC... and that most of the modules have been moved over to Media Encoder... change change change change.... hopefully for the better...
PS: We're running Windows 8 and the latest CC as downloaded via Cloud subscription.

Hi - I have a video player with autoplay=false. I'd like to

[JS CS3] Modify geometricBounds of Inline Frames in Overset Text

Hello,
I have the following setting:
I recieve a XML file , which contains <image href="..."> tags. InDesign automatically inserts the correct images as an inline frame.
The layout column are too small for the large images, so when placing the XML into the layout, the whole content is in the overset.
Inline frames in the overset do not have any geometricBounds. Can I modify width & height of frames in overset text? And how do I do that?

I helped myself with the following:

The objectStyle "Img_free" sets the image frame from "inline" to "anchored frame". So the size of the image doesn't matter any more because its outside ("free") of the text. So everything flows into visibility and I can change whatever I want. (Yes, I must not do this with a object style, but it felt right to do so.)
It's basically a similar way to your description. But I had hoped that there would be a somewhat "cleaner" way to do that. In my eyes it is more a workaround ...
Any further suggestions?
(How do people scripting InDesign Server do such things?)

Force start frame number in image sequence render

I have a 900 frame comp rendered to a numbered image sequence.
After applying a revision to frames 250-300, I would like to render
only those frames, overwriting the originals.
I have tried:
Under >Render Settings, "Work Area Only", with "Skip existing files" off.
This renders the correct frames as designated by the Work Area Bar,
but the frame numbering begins at 1 instead of 250.
Under >Render Settings, "Custom", with "Skip existing files" off.
In the Custom fields, I specify frames 250-300.
This renders the correct frames as designated by the Custom setting,
but the frame numbering still begins at 1 instead of 250.
Using both of the above settings, I have also tried to "force" a start frame
in the Output Module by manually entering "filename_[00250]".
The result is a new 51 frame sequence starting with "filename_[00250]_00001".
How can I get a partial render to overwrite the correctly
numbered original frames in an image sequence?

I have figured out what I was doing wrong.
I turns out that you can indeed force a start frame
number in the Output Module, but I was using it incorrectly.
Instead of having "Use Comp Frame Number" checked,
I had specified a starting frame number (1 - the first frame of comp).
The result is that regardless of what specified segment I rendered,
the output frames always were numbered starting with frame 1.
After checking "Use Comp Frame Number", problem solved.

Using chapter markers as button start frames

I have a track with chapter markers, and I'm using a template menu with buttons to which I'm assigning the various chapter markers. I'd like to have the button thumbnail display the video from the start frame the corresponds to the particular chapter marker that I've assigned to that button. I can do this manually in the button inspector; you choose the video track as the "asset" and then use the slider to manually set the start frame. However, this is a tedious way to do this, I'm sure there must be a way to automatically set the thumbnail to display the video from the corresponding chapter marker?

option-drag the track from the graphical view onto the "chapter selection" button on your main menu - Choose "create chapter index" from the drop palette. and pick your template. This will automatically create as many chapter selection menus as are needed, with chapter markers displayed in the thumbnails, and all the navigation hooked up correctly. At least as correctly as the template specifies.

WebSphere Default Server Starting Problem

I am using WebSphere AS and facing a strange problem at the time of starting the default server.
I had to change the user name & password of the XADataSource of the Server. On applying this, and starting the Default server, the server started and application worked fine. However, the next day, when I restarted the machine & started the Server, the server is not starting.
I checked the connection using the Test Connection button. The connection is ok.
I am getting the following error at the Default Server start up in the Default_Server_stdout.log:

In the log, the above two lines are repeated in a seemingly infinite loop. (I have to Force Stop the Default Server.)
I suspect that there is some problem while reading the Default ServerXAResources properties file. I tried deleting this file so that it will be created, replacing it with that from another machine, but these things didn't work.
(The classes12.zip is present in the classpath. )
Please let me know if I have to do any more settings whenever I change the dastasource user/password.

The following steps should fix your environment problem.
1) Delete the log files under <WAS_HOME>\tranlog folder.
This will allow you to start the server.
2) Also make sure that your user id has SELECT privilege on
"DBA_PENDING_TRANSACTIONS" table. I guess your id doesn't have that
privilege.
To grant the SELECT privilege on the system view
"DBA_PENDING_TRANSACTIONS", you must logon to Oracle as "SYS" user using
Oracle's tool likes SQL*Plus and issue the following command (Note: the
default password for "SYS" user is "CHANGE_ON_INSTALL")

Hold a start frame or copy transformation from one object to another

Hi There,
I have some stop-motion clips that are in the timeline and are reversed. When I play the timeline, these items move out of frame.
However, only the movement is animated and I need them to be on screen before they move off. Can you hold a start frame so that the stay on screen until they animate?
If not, I have a still of the frame I would like to hold but can't figure out how to copy the transformations from the animated clip to the still so they match perfectly. How do you do this?
Any help would be appreciated.

Ended up copying and pasting the transformations by hand which was very painful as there seems to be a big with copying and pasting transformations between objects.
You have to click in the box, hit the arrow key, select all, copy, click in the box for the next object, hit the arrow key, select all, paste.
If you just click the box for the fist object, copy, click in the next box for the next object and paste, nothing happens!

How to re align a layer to a composition every frame using a script?

I have a text layer in a composition. The text on the layer changes every frame. What I want to do is write a script that aligns that layer to the composition every frame.

I'm not sure what you are trying to do but I think you are looking for a monospaced font. No script I know of will be able to determine the differences between kerning on a metric or optically kerned font to keep the characters all in the same position, but a monospaced font does this automatically. Try changing the font to courier and see if that solves your problem. If it doesn't then explain in detail and provide examples or screenshots that include everything you are having problems with.

Why I want to modify default installation path of WindowsApps?
Because when I installed software that is suitable for the traditional model, my C disc had only 10GB space.
I think Win8.1 is perfect.And I like the traditional mode and Metro interface.(I heard Win9 can’t use two modes at the same time,but I think simultaneous use of two modes the operation is very nice.)
The method used in windows8:
First,Enter WinPE,create a file that is the mirror image of WindowsApps in D disc.
Then,Enter Win8.1,make User get thechanges to the “Appx” folder under theregistry.
Last,Amended registry master key of “packageRoot”as “D:/WindowsApps”
This operation can be completed in Win8,but default in Win8.1.
So,could you tell me how to modify default installation path of WindowsApps?
If it’s impossible ,I hope Microsoft team could solve it.

In my opinion it's a bad idea to change this, as most software is set to install on drive C: and not all of it may be using the proper CSIDL system calls to get the locations.
You can be sure the majority of testing is done with applications installing in the system default location on C:.
A much better idea is to save a few Yuan and buy a much larger SSD for the system drive, then use the default drive C: locations for the operating system and installed programs.

Defaulting scale to frame size

I'm stuck. I am about to pull in a whole bunch of still images into my timeline. I know I need to go to - edit-preference-general-check the "default scale to frame size". Here is where I am lost. I need to fing the back leash key.. I can't remember where this is

We did is this way because it's the only way for us to easily reproduce that feature in AE.
Since AE doesn't support it natively, we need to emulate it. We emulate it by sticking the footage in a precomp of the 'frame size' and set the scale on the footage on that layer to make it work. One could argue that if the scale is 100% we should optimize this and just leave out the precomp, but as you can see we didn't think of that at the time.
Is that the situation you are in?
