Modifying Auto Shapes in FW8

Hello,
While researching materials for an upcoming tutorial, I
stumbled upon a problem about Auto Shape Properties and Fireworks
8.
Fireworks CS3 has the option to modify autoshape properties
by numeric input, through the Auto Shape Properties panel. I still
have MX 2004, and it doesn't seem to have this option. The one I'm
not sure about is Fireworks 8 (I skipped that generation).
So my question basically is this: was the Auto Shape
Properties panel introduced in CS3 or in FW8?
I'm also curious if anyone knows a way to modify autoshapes
in MX 2004 by means other than manual dragging of those pointers
(in case I missed something).
Thanks,
SiamJai

None that I'm aware of.

  • Auto shape properties window doesn´t refresh values

    hi,
    after installing creative suite 4 on my new pc i have a big problem. the auto shape properties window in fireworks doesn´t refresh the values of my shape. if i select the shape i have to close the panel and open it again to get the right values. if i select on shape and then another one, i have to do the same. this is really annoying.
    here a little demonstration: http://gate8.de/jeeeee/2013-03-13_1810.swf
    i uninstalled fireworks, deleted preferences folder, updated graphic driver and finally called the support but they "coundn´t" help because the product is too old
    i hope you can help.
    thx a lot!
    Jens

    Hopefully, you realize you can edit the Auto Shapes directly on the canvas. Hovering over a "yellow diamond" will reveal a tooltip telling what property it adjusts.
    It sounds like there's a communication problem between the panel and the canvas/application. The Auto Shape Properties panel is a SWF panel that resides in the application's Configuration/Command Panels folder. Other SWF panels include Align, Path, Symbol Properties, Image Editing, Special Characters, and Color Palette. I wonder if any of these other panels are affected?
    It seems like there's been a lot of problems with Flash-based panels conflicting with other apps or plug-ins. Try quitting and restarting the application with no other applications running in the background. Also check out something like this: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3931126

  • Auto shape colour being made solid when PDF'd

    Hi
    I am hoping someone will be able to help with an issues I am having.  I am trying to PDF a Word document, on the document is an image and then on top of the image is an auto shape with a very light shade of colour so you can still see the image through the auto shape.  When PDF'ing the document the colour becomes solid and you can't see the image through the auto shape.
    Does anyone know why this is happening?  Is there any fix?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jodie

    More than likely it is in the PDF creation end of things. If that's the case, you'll want to go to the forum for the software you are using to create the PDF.
    Before that, one thing you CAN check in Reader is Preferences>Page Display>REndering and be sure that smoothing preferences are checked.

  • New Multi-Border Rectangle auto shape makes it easy to mock up HTML-style borders

    The new Multi-Border Rectangle auto shape is now available for download: http://bit.ly/exP1pJ
    CSS allows a different width and color to be applied to the border on  each side of an HTML element, but Fireworks' rectangles are limited to a  single border color and thickness.  The Multi-Border Rectangle auto  shape addresses this limitation, making it easy to mock up HTML-style  borders.

    Nice one John!

  • Lost Auto Shape Tool

    I am using Fireworks CC
    The help page says:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Draw an Auto Shape
    In the Vector section of the Tools panel, select an Auto Shape tool from the pop-up menu. """
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In the "Tools" panel I only have these:
    Line Tool
    Vector Path Tool
    Rectangle Tool
    Text Tool
    Freform Tool
    Knife Tool
    Where do I find the arrow tool?

    tallman,
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Modifying a shape by its end points - like a square

    If you draw a square and then want to modify its shape so it is parallelogram - how do you select the points to move them?
    Thanks

    You don't actually need to select any points to convert a square to a parallelogram.
    Direct select a segment (the line between anchor points) and shift-drag.
    Or else you can turn on bounding boxes and use the (black arrow) Selection tool to drag.
    Or use the Scale tool and shift-drag.
    There are many ways. You just choose the one you are happiest with. Auntie Illie is very accomodating :-)

  • Arrows in "Auto Shapes"

    I am running Fireworks CS6. I have read the Adobe pages which indicated that arrows were in "Auto Shapes". They do not appear in my version. What have I missed?
    Many thanks,
    Robin Chapple

    Hi
    Green arrow will indicate that next process will happen only with the success of present job.
    Red arrow indicates that next job will happen only with the failure of present job.
    And third arrow with red and green color in it indicates that next job will happen in both the cases(success or failure)

  • Common Library vs. Auto Shapes?

    1. Is the Common Library just artwork that has been made into Symbols that can be reused for any project?
    2. Are Auto Shapes artwork with the goal of letting you manipulate them? How do they differ from what is in the Common Library?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Is it possible to modify marker shapes in a line graph

    Hello,
    Some questions regarding the marker shapes in line graphs.
    I have a line graph with two series. The client wants one series to have the diamond shape (black border, white inside) and the other series to also be a diamond but be filled in black.
    Is there a way to do this?
    Also, the marker shapes appear small in the graph. Is there a way to increase the size of the marker shapes?
    Lastly, I can't get the marker shapes to appear in the legend. I have tried setting markerShapeInLegend="true" in the Graph tag but that didn't help. It still just displays the line colour of the series.
    We are on version 10.1.3.4.1
    Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi,
    It is impossible to do that because the user query is using query generator. Click the condition button in the quer generator windows. The selection criteria text used the condition.
    you can use a custom report instead of using user query e.g. crystal report or reporting services

  • Modifying Primative shapes in Illustrator CS4

    Hi
    I know you can change the properties of primitive shapes (star, polygon, rounded rectangle etc) using the left, right, up and down arrows as well as Ctrl and Alt.
    However, these settings change the default of the tool for the next time you draw a similar shape.
    Does anyone know if it is possible to reset these drawing tools back to their default settings without either manually doing it or deleting the pref files.
    Thanks
    George

    Hi Mylenium
    Thanks for your reply. I had a feeling that there isn't a quick way.
    Thanks anyway.

  • Why am I seeing the "Editing sub-elements on Auto Shape..." every time I move a rounded rectangle?

    Hi,
    Every time I move a rounded rectangle around the page, I see this dialog box:
    And usually afterwards, I cannot edit some properties of the shape, such as the roundness of the corners. Is there a way to avoid this?
    Thanks.

    Yeah, that's a good point. After accidentally subselecting a Smart Shape (and choosing Cancel), it isn't enough to just switch to the Pointer tool. Clicking once or twice on the object with the Pointer tool should work to select the item properly. Otherwise, you can also click on the canvas to deselect the object first.
    Take a look at the object on the canvas; its appearance will give you a clue about what's been selected (or not).

  • Modifying auto-date format

    Hello guys,
    I'm using ID CS3 on a XP machine in Spanish.
    I've been fiddling with this script to stamp today's date in an Indy document.
    It works very good, and I got it to even insert tomorrow's date.
    The resulting date is in this format: jueves, enero 12, 2012.
    I am trying now to change it to this format (this is in Spanish): jueves, 12 de enero de 2012.
    This is the script:
    function dayMonthYear(date) {
    // returns dayName, monthName date, year
    // PLUS ONE DAY
    date.setDate(date.getDate()+1);
    var myDateString = date.toLocaleDateString();
    myParts = myDateString.split(" 0");
    if (myParts.length != 1) {
    myDateString = myParts[0] + " " + myParts[1];
    return myDateString.slice(0,-5) + " de" + myDateString.slice(-5);
    Remember, ID and the OS are in Spanish, and according to date.toLocaleDateString() the script should return the date in this format: "jueves, 12 de enero de 2012". Why does it return "jueves, enero 12, 2012"?
    I am not very good at scripting, but.. Can anybody help me change the script so it returns the date in my desired format?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

    What do you have to do? Well, it is tricky. It is tricky to get right. The better answer is "Don't."
    But if you must, you'll have to be quite clear.
    Exactly what do you want to do to the returend date string?
    Specify it very clearly. Something like:
      Split it up into space-seperated words.
      Insert "de" between the 3rd and 4th word and the 7th and 8th word.
      Swap the 3rd and 5th words.
      Capitalize the first word.
      Put it all back together.
    I can imagine many ways to poentially get what you want and as non-Spanish speaker, I am not sure what weird exceptions there are.
    The split function divides a string on the specified character. Such as splitting a sentence into words by calling .split(" "), which splits on spaces.
    See https://developer.mozilla.org/en/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/String/Split for a good reference with some examples.

  • Modify the shape of image.

    Hello!
    I have a problem with the images and i don't have idea to solve it. Maybe some of you have more idea than me...
    I want to reduce the size of one side of the image. But only one, is not useful to resize all the image.
    The effect that I want is to simulate like one side of the image is more near than the other to me when I have the image in front of me.
    Can you understand me?
    I dont know where to start with this... Any help will be very usefull.
    Thanks a lot!
    Merry christmas!

    Here, play around with this code. Scaling one side of the image does indeed make it look like it's rotating, but the direction of rotation seems to be in the eye of the beholder. Notice, to achieve the scaling I us an AffineTransform object. You can probably add some mathematical shear to the AffineTransform to achieve a better effect.

  • Shapes are "paralyzed", cannot be modified

    I want to modify a shape or create a new one with the help of the menu "shape" ( "Form" in my German Language ) It is possible to alter the size of a marked shape but only in regard to proportion. If I apply the option of editing, those little red dots appear as they are supposed to. But: they remain sort of paralyzed, they do not modify the shape, unable to pull or draw with them. The very same process is possible in keynote. But if I create a shape in Keynote and copy it into Pages: it keeps fixed. After hours and hours of trying to solve that puzzle I realized it has to do with a button in the menu bar, in German: "eingebettet"/"fixiert" I dont know the English translation for it, therefor I attach the screenshot. Each time I mark the shape in order to edit it, that button shifts to "fixieren" and cannot be released!

    Yes, I wonder if my application Pages '08 is "bugged". For the process of activating successfully the red dots runs perfect in Keynote!
    Your suggestions to solve the problem remains enigmatic for me: this is "higher" understanding of computer language. So, let me try to translate into my language:
    "from another account" do you mean: from another Mac? I have only one account -which is myself- on my Mac.
    I apologize but I can't guess which is your level of knowledge.
    Click on the Desktop.
    You will enter the Finder.
    Click the menu entitled "Help"'
    Search for the keyword Account
    You will get explanations about the way to create an other user account on your machine.
    Trying to run the application from such an other user account is the unique way allowing you/us to know if the problem is in your account (in such case the culprit is not the app itself) or if it is a global problem (in tis case and only in this one, the problem *_may be_* the app but it would not be sure that it is).
    As second step you suggest deleting(?) the file. Yet you give an example referring to Keynote, not to Pages?
    "<startupVolume>:Users:<yourUserAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Key note.plist
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourUserAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Keyn ote.LSSharedFileList.plist"
    Is this an error?
    Yes, I was fooled by the presence of the two applications names in your messages.
    "<startupVolume>:Users:<yourUserAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.iWork.Pag es.plist

  • Direct Selection Tool don't works cause points dissapear in shapes

    Good evening,
    I'm using Photoshop CC under a Macbook Pro Retina Display (15 inches), I've noticed that since lasts updates, when I use the direct selection tool for chaning a shape trace the points that should appear for selecting each anchor dissapears, and there's no way to get them back (sometimes by closing the program and restarting fixes this issue).
    The tool is working because when I clic somewhere over a shape it gets highlighted on layers panel, but I can't see the points and so, can't modify the shape.
    Does this belongs to any option? (I know in Illustrator there's an option to see or hide the points, but don't know if in Photoshop goes the same way or not) or it's a bug from the last updates? (I would say that it didn't happen at the beggining). But as I use a lot shorcuts, sometimes I can make a misstake and press cmd + wrong key, so I think it could be the reason for this... but I'm not quite sure.
    Thanks in advice!
    EDIT:
    I've seen that if I hide the "extras" (cmd + H) it hides the guides but also the points from shapes (that shouldn't be this way, right?) and even I can see them when I turn them on, I can't pick just one as I did in CS6 by using direct selection tool and pressing on just one point (at the beggining all of them are highlighted cause you've got selected the whole shape layer, but when you press one, it should get this highlighted and turn off the rest of them), and the only way to get just one point is to pan with the cursor and make a selection, passing over the points you want to highlight, but this is annoying cause if you've got any other shape below, it will select it as well.

    1000x this. My designs are 100% vector shapes, so if Adobe have changed this core behavior intentionally, they’ve just made my life a lot more difficult.
    We should be able to use the Direct Selection Tool to select a shape layer (similar to how the Move Tool has done) by clicking on any visible pixel. But then we should be able to freely drag-select points on that shape (starting from any neutral area) without selecting other shape layers. This is how it’s worked since before I can remember.
    Here’s why the two new selection modes don’t work:
    Active Layers - I can no longer freely select any visible shape. Instead I’m forced to make a time-consuming roundabout to the layer palette, where I have to squint to find my shape layer, and activate it manually before continuing. (Hitting “V” to select a layer, then “A” to get back to the D.S. Tool is nearly as cumbersome. Plus, I leave off the Move Tool's auto-select mode.)
    All Layers - Treats all my shapes as if they’re on one layer. Overlapping shapes are therefore impossible to work with -- mainly drag-selecting and deselecting points -- in situ.
    We either need a “legacy” setting, or some way to constrain selection on drag, via a key modifier or something. This “all or nothing" thing doesn’t work for me... and apparently for others. Why would they change such a thing?
    Or maybe there’s something I’m missing. Please let that be the case!
