Modifying Drum Loops to fit 12/8 time

My current project is in 12/8 time. When I try to insert drum loops there are virtually no drum loops to add (most options are greyed out). So I have changed the time to 4/4 so that I can access and modify a drum loop. Note - even though the time on the score is now in 4/4, the song is still a 12/8 song.
When I insert a drum loop that I think is a good fit, the timing is seriously off. What is the best way or easiest way to get a 4/4 drum loop to fit a 12/8 song?
Is there some simple fractional math that will help in the editing make this fit?
Appreciate the help.

This "original file cannot be found" thing happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

  • Pedal for Garageband's Drum Loops?!? HELLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!!!

    Hey there -
So I am in a three piece band - two guitarists and a bass. We plug my MacBook into a PA and use Garageband for the drum loops. It's pretty effective for now (until we find a percussionist).
I was wondering though - is there anyway to control the Loops with pedal. Does such a product exist. For instance, if we are all playing with the drum machine, and there is a break in the song when the drums are supposed to cut out but we are all supposed to keep playing - is there a pedal I can step on that will turn off the Garageband's drum beat while I am still playing, and then step on it again to turn the loop back on? Is there any kind of advanced pedal out there that has the same capacity or quality drum beats out there for purchasing?
I really just need a solution or a new kind of product with quality percussion.
    Please HELP!!!!
    Thanks,
    John

Check out Ableton Live Intro. Ableton Live and what is called 'Session View' is used for exactly this purpose. You do not need the full version to do what you want, and for a small extra cost you can get the 6 gig additional content library for Intro. Be warned though, it gets deep real quick.
With regards to the foot controller, Ableton utilizes a MIDI map mode where basicly 99% of the UI can be mapped to anything ie, keys, faders, knobs, pads etc. So start, stop etc can be controlled by a foot controller. It also has a 'quantize' feature that triggers commands within a specified bar so that you do not have to hit things exactly on time, but rather within the time frame you have selected. For instance you can start a drum loop, have it play for how ever many bars you decide and then when you and the band are ready, hit the stop or select another different loop within the set time frame (1,2,4 bars ect and it will make the change in perfect time.
It also has a KEY Map Mode where most of your qwerty keyboard can be maped as well. I made myself a simple and cheap foot controller out of a qwerty keyboard that was modified. I simple mapped what I wanted and it suits my work flow.
A popular foot controller is the Behringer FCB 1010, although there has been a lot of complaints about how skint the manual is. There are other smaller controllers around, and I think the Apogee Gio might even be usable (I have only heard rumors).
Ableton can play your Apple Loops too. This is what I often do. Everything in your Jam Packs is avaliable in Ableton.
    Cheers

  • How do i sync an external drum loop to alchemy arp in GB

Hi, I have downloaded some external drum loops that are not mac loops and I dont know the correct bpm of it but Im running it at 80bpm. I am using alchemy in GB too on another track and have selected a great bass arp but in alchemy I also dont know the tempo of the arp as it dosent tell me anywhere and I cant change the tempo of the arp as far as i can see within alchemy so how do i sync the tempo of the two tracks in GB. I have altered the tempo of the drum loop faster and slower to try and locate the Bpm of the arp but I cannot get it exact. Any help appreciated. I just want to be able to play the arp on the GB keyboard in time with the drum .

    You cannot.

  • Quality drum loops or Drum machine plug-ins

I have purchased drum loops from 2 different sources(I'm not going to mention names) and have not been satisfied. I find the loops either too simplistic and rigid or way over the top.
    I am looking for:
    1) Rock, pop and "alternative folk" loops.
    2) Loops that have names that are succinct and informative.
    3) Loops that have fills that "fit".
I really like/liked working with drum machines and have used Boss TR505(?), Alesis SR16, Roland R70 and currently use Boss 670. Back in the day I would sync a midi drum track/s to my song and could switch out individual drum parts or keep the same part and add a new kit or instrument.
I must be missing something because Logic seems limiting because I have to commit to a global audio loop. Or I make a basic sketch of a drum track(song) with my BR670. I then record the song into Logic as an audio track from the drum machine. Switching parts here and there becomes a laborious process.
I know I am mainly limited by the fact I only have a 2 channel firewire audio interface.
Ok, I'm rambling. If anyone knows the boat I am in and can direct me to a flexible loop library or explain how I can work with my drum machine and a 2 channel interface...

  • Drum loops erratic--basically unplayable

Hi, folks, new MainStage user here. I've done tons of stuff with Logic 8 Pro already and have an 8-month-old MacBook Pro with 7200 RPM HD and 4 GB RAM with latest Leopard and all updates installed. The below problem happens whether or not my MIDI controller is hooked up (Novation ReMOTE SL37 keyboard).
I just started trying MainStage over the weekend, and I ran into a basic bug that I don't understand and can't figure out how to troubleshoot: the drum loops don't really work. I start one up, it plays correctly for maybe 3 or 7 or 8 or 11 or even 13.3 measures (it always varies), then the loop stops for 1/4 or 1/2 second, then starts up again from the beginning. This is using the Electronic template, selecting either Downtempo Dub, Space Disco, Classic Techno, Dark Breaks, going into Perform mode, and clicking on one of the keys to start the beat.
This isn't an audio dropout or a gap that's part of the beat, because with that sort of thing, the rhythm would still be in time with a metronome afterward. It's not.
Has anyone ever heard of this? Maybe I have some setting wrong. Any insights greatly appreciated!!! Thanks.

Are you syncing to incoming clock by any chance?
I see a reference in the manual to "Getting the Tempo From MIDI Input" and a checkbox referencing same in the Concert Inspector, but I do not see that checkbox anywhere in the Inspector or Preferences. This might be because I currently don't have a MIDI controller hooked up, but keep in mind that I still have the problem even without the MIDI controller hooked up.
I'm glad that you're having fun jamming on my behalf. I'm getting jealous!

  • Free Drum Loops for you to play with

    Hey all:
In the holiday spirit of giving back to the community, etc., etc., I thought maybe you all would enjoy some badass drum loops to play around with in Soundtrack Pro (my all-time favorite Apple program).
    So here goes:
This is a zip file containing an array of drum loops with which to play around.
    http://www.21ca.com/drums/FrankColeman-DrumLoops01-162bpm.zip (about 11MB)
They're at 162 bpm, but they'll survive having the tempo manipulated.
    Here's volume 2:
    http://www.21ca.com/drums/FrankColeman-DrumLoops02-136bpm.zip (about 20MB)
These were done at 136 BPM. A somewhat darker styling than the last batch, but you can manipulate them any which way, of course.
No effects added to any of these, so feel free to dirty them up any way you like.
This is my vintage chrome Slingerland kit, from a session last year. I did 11 tracks in 90 minutes, by myself, to a click, so there's lots more where this came from.
Well-recorded (at The Cutting Room Studios NYC) and tightly edited (by me), so they'll drop right into Soundtrack or any other loop-savvy program.
If you end up using them for something meaningful, all I ask is proper attribution and send me a copy. I'd be fascinated to hear what you come up with. More to follow.
    Enjoy!

    - From the Window menu, select Layouts/Standard (or use function key F1), just to be sure you can see all the relevant panels.
    - First, set up the project properly:
    - In the top left hand panel, click on the Project tab. Scroll down within the Project pane and make the following selections:
    Ruler Units: Beats
    Tempo: whatever you like
    Key: - (blank/none)
From the View Menu, select Snap (should be checked).
    - In the bottom right panel (Browser), navigate to the folder where the loops are saved.
    - In the lower center pane, click on the "Bin" tab.
    - Drag 'n' Drop the files from the Browser to the Bin. Now you can drag them from the bin to a Track and start playing around. Alternately, you can drag them from the Browser to a track and they will show up automatically in the Bin.

  • Starting and stopping a drum loop in MainStage

Hi, i've just started using Mainstage 2.1.2 and I'm setting up a B3/bass/drums split to accompany a vocalist. I'm trying to put in a drum loop from studio drummer which I use from Native Instruments. My issue is I need to be able to setup an action where I use a command on my keyboard (button or key or pedal to initiate a stop on the drums and then start them again when i choose....for instance for a bass solo, or even to kill the drums at the end of the tune). I succeeded in doing an action which muted it but i need it to stop so that when the vocalist comes in again the drums will be in time. i.e starting the drums again will just be like starting the track from scratch rather than have it running silently in the background which is what the mute/unmute does. Hope this makes sense and any help would be grealy appreciated.

    Hi
One would normally set up either MIDI CC or Host Automation within Kontakt to do this, but it would seem that you cannot control the 'Play' button of the MIDI grooves within the NI Drummer series.
To work around this, you could bounce the 'Drummer' groove to audio (in Logic, Garageband etc) and the use a Playback plugin within Mainstage to actually perform.
Hidden benefits would be that Playback will use considerably less RAM that Kontakt with Studio Drummer.

  • How can I modify the NonLinear curve fit in 7.1 to a new formula?

My problem is something like this.
I am a beginner in LabVIEW and I have been trying to put together a piece of program that would acquire, analyze and display data from dynamic light scattering. I used a Formula Node to create a autocorrelation function which works a lot faster that the function that is on the functions palette and I have my final results in array and graph forms. I tried to look at the examples provided in the software package for some nonlinear fitting and I found the NonLinear Lev-Mar Fit.vi which would do something close to what we needed, but not enough. The autocorrelation data looks as a simple exponential decay, but the fitting procedure needs an extra term in the fitting equation to account for any undesired noise in the solution of interest. That term includes an Exponential Integral which LabVIEW had in its special function section. The problem that I have is to Modify the Lev-Mar fitting vi to account for the change. My formula looks something like:
    f = (B*exp(-A*x) + (1 - B )* ExpIntegr (g*x))^2
where A and B are our fitting coefficients and the information of interest is included in A.
Thank you very much for your time.

What is g? A constant? Another fitting parameter?
It is hard work to adapt the old lev-mar fit to a new model. Things are much improved in LabVIEW 8.0+, where the model VI is called via reference and tons of other improvements were implemented.
I made similar improvements in 7.1 and you can e.g. try to modify one of my many such postings. I posted one involving exponential integrals a long time ago.
    (Download the example EI_Fit.llb)
To adapt, just change the model and adjust the number of parameters if needed.
For details, check the original thread. Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Working in Logic 9, how do I use a drum loop WITH ITS PRESET EFFECTS? I can drag and drop the loop but it plays dry in timeline. thanks

Working in Logic 9, how do I use a drum loop WITH ITS PRESET EFFECTS? I can drag and drop the loop but it plays dry in timeline. thanks

    Here's the short-cut solution:
Green Apple tracks are MIDI files (so to speak). If you drag one from the loop browser (Capitol C Orchestral hit, as you mentioned in this exable) directly into the arrange page it creates the MIDI file and the instrument to play it back on.
HOWEVER.If you create and audio track first, THEN drag the green Apple loop onto that track, the loop will get "bounced" with the reverb in tact and you'll have the exact sound that you heard in the preview.
    Make sense?

    HELP !

The loops you are looking for, are probably part of the Jam Pack Rhythm Section.
The Jam Packs are working with Yosemite and also with GarageBand 10.0.3. Have you tired to reinstall them?
See the Bullets&Bones FAQ, the answer should be at the top of the page:

  • Just installed LE9, but no drum loops - does that sound right?

    Hi,
I've just installed Logic Express 9 and there were no drum loops, along with lots of other loops in the Loop browser that were greyed out.
Does Logic Express only come with a few loops, or has something gone wrong in install?
I have managed to find all the Apple loops from Garage Band and have manually added them to the library, but I was hoping Logic Express would have loops of its own, especially in drums which I found a bit limiting in Garage Band.
    Thanks in advance...

That depends on how you installed LE. Were you using Custom Install option?
Typically, LE installation program copies both Logic and its content to your Macintosh HD, but you may choose whether to perform a full installation (software + content) or to install just software without content, using Custom Install, to save the disk space. My guess is, you just installed the program without content (drum loops, etc.) I think, you may try to re-install it, without using the custom install option.

  • All drum loops in LE 8 are greyed out and Apple loops utility 'can't be installed'

    Hi
I installed Logic Express 8 and have loads of loops missing, especially the drum loops.
Even the Apple loops utility is giving me problems. It looks like the Apple loops utility was installed (because I have the icon for it now), but everything inside that utility is greyed out. When I try to re-install it, i get the error message 'Apple Loops Utility can’t be installed on this computer. The specified message could not be found for the index 0.'
    I have a new MAC Mini OS X 10.6.7
    Help would be appreciated.
UPDATE: I have looked through other related discussions here but could not find the naswer.
I also just checked in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops to see if the files are  there and of course they are not.
In fact, funnily enough, there are 0 files in the apple loops (although I do have plenty of loops that do play in LE8, just not the drum loops), which is strange. Where are all the files?????
I also found the following interesting point in the discussions here:
'The standard installation doesn't install all the loops. You'll have to do a custom installation and check the GB extras.'
The problem is that I am never given any option to do a custom installation when I install. It only offers the normal installation mode.

    Hi,
    1. On the newer Macs, iLife 11 or so, only a part of the loops is being installed, and the other part must be downloaded via software update. GB will tell you so if you select a greyed out loop.
    2. Loops should all be in "(your HD)/library/audio/apple loops/apple", not in the user library.
    3. If you find the loops are installed there but aren't shown in LE or in GB, you might want to re-index the loops.
    4. If loops are still missing after re-indexing, drag the loops folder straight above your loop browser and drop them there - this should add the missing loops.

  • Imported Drum loops greyed out

I have imported .wav drum loops using iTunes but when I go to garageband on my iPad Air they are visible in my list of available loops but they are greyed out and I cannot drag and drop them into a track. Other formats I have imported, such as mp3 are fine, and are available.

well im almost there.. do you mind if I just run something by you. After dragging in the loops folder from the library not all of them are importing. Its pretty random actually. I wonder if thats normal because Apple wants you to buy the ones that are greyed out... or am I still doing something wrong?

  • How do you get drum loops tempo to match your track?

We've recorded a few different projects with acoustic guitar tracks and are having trouble getting the drum loops to match the beat/tempo of our tracks. Even with Groove Matching, it still sounds a little bit off. Any suggestions?

Did you record your guitars to a steady metronome? If you have a varying tempo, it will be hard to match the beat to them.
