Modifying POP email account settings

Essentially, I need to modify the username settings on an existing POP email account (on my Z10) - however, the setting - "Username" - is grayed-out, seemingly unmodifiable.... The only solution is - perhaps - to delete the account from the "Accounts" list and start over?
HOWEVER, I have a LARGE number of emails (sent and received), associated with this needing-to-be-modified POP email account, which I would NOT like to lose....
Will I lose my emails if I remove and re-add this POP email account from / to my Z10?
Thanks for any wisdom!

tirgoman!
Thanks for your comments. The issue is, really, with emails SENT from the Z10. I am not (as) concerned with received mails. I have a separate email client (desktop), which grabs and removes mail from the server, regularly.
Is it not possible to change the Username setting for an email account, which is already set up / operational on the Z10?
Is the only solution a remove and re-add, which will result in the complete loss of all (Z10-based) email associated with the removed / re-added email account?
Thanks, again!

  • Can I use a POP email account on an iPhone

I have a POP email account. I use it on my iMac. My Mail settings are to delete emails as soon as I've downloaded them.
Can I set up my email account on my iPhone? Can the two devices synch my email? i.e. if I send an email from my iMac will this email show up in my iPhone sent mailbox / if I delete an email from my phone will it also be deleted from my iMac / will emails sent to me go to both devices?
Remember this isn't an IMAP account with emails residing on a server, but a POP account that neither stores sent or received emails.
    Thanks for any help

POP does not provide for synchronization between clients. Only IMAP or Exchange accounts do that. By default, POP will delete from the server as soon as it's downloaded, meaning that if your computer downloads it, it can not be downloaded to your phone and vice versa. It is possible to configure some POP mail clients not to delete messages from the server after downloading, but not all servers will honor this request.
POP is generally considered obsolete. Especially in the world of mobile devices and multiple computers.
If your email provider does not support IMAP, you may want to look for a new one.
You could conceivably use a free service that supports IMAP, like gmail, to gather in the mail from the mail service you're using now.

  • I cannot add a new pop email account in my "iphone 6"

I cannot add a new pop email account in my iphone, when i confirmed "saving account" it is automatically being closed and kick-out me from?
It is iPhone 6 and the system is iOS 8.1
I am going to select "Others" and then my user name, password and "next".
Then IMAP and POP settings screen is coming. I am going to select "POP" with my incoming and outgoing server details.
And finally I am going to proceed with "save".... So... pupff........ it is going, closing, kicking me out. Maybe 20-25 times since yesterday I try it but no win.
What should I do for these my friends. This is my business email... It was working before in iPhone 5s and afte iPhone 6 I make reset for 5s.
I try later on for 5s again. It make me the same thing also. They are not allowing me to add a new pop email address.

    Is it your own domain?
Have you tried setting up as Exchange?

    Did you know the servers have changed;
SBC Yahoo Email & News Server Info
To set up your email client (not webmail) to use the newest "New and Improved" secure access:
    1. Open your email client program.
    2. Locate the email account settings for your particular client.
    3. Change or set the POP (incoming) server to
    inbound.att.net.
    4. Change the SMTP (outgoing) server to
    outbound.att.net.
    5. For inbound email, connect securely over the standard
    POP3 SSL
port: 995. Use username and password. Do not use "Secure Password
    Authentication".
    6. For outbound email, connect securely over the standard
    SMTP SSL
port: 465. Use the same credentials as for the inbound email.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Trouble setting up POP email account

I am trying to set up my POP email account on my iPhone and it is not recognizing the outgoing SMTP server. I have the settings correct. My mail server is mail.adelphia.net for both incoming and outgoing mail. Any suggestions?

update: decided just to change my password with the server when I realized that it was user error- the wrong password was in fact being typed in blush. So now I don't get the any errors. I guess it works, no email on the phone yet, but the computer is on with outlook running, and I do believe it takes the mail off the server when it downloads it- so I don't think there's mail there for the iPhone to see.
Now, do you think you could help me with another iPhone question I have? It's really simple. It deals with when I activated yesterday- I got booted out of the activation sequence due to an incoming call from some random person looking for the owner of the old number i'd JUST been assigned and had JUST gone active (I have a post on the board about it) and I didn't get to do anything that comes up on the iTunes screen after it gives you your phone number. Therefore, I didn't get to name my iPhone or sync with outlook. My two questions are these:
Can I still name the iPhone, or do I have to somehow reset it? And if I have to reset it- do I loose all the contacts I entered (they're not in outlook, they were in my other phone) or can I somehow sync to iTunes and have the contacts saved before restoring?
Next, the iPhone doesn't sync to Outlook (i have 2003 on Vista) at all. Because I was booted out of activation, I had to try a manual sync. I can get emails because that was just fixed, but it doesn't give me my contacts or calendar. The syncs for bookmarks off IE worked. I haven't tried a sync to transfer music and videos yet. Is there something I'm not doing right as to why it won't give me Outlook? I notice that there is only one Apple add-in running in outlook, and someone said something about needing two? Plus, Vista gives me an error that the Outlook sync server has quit every time I try to sync.
Can you help with any of that?

  • POP email account and Password

Hi guys and gals! I have seen this problem batted around before but don't know if there is a solution. My POP email account keeps asking for my password. Sometimes it might go 15 minutes and sometimes it asks like 3 times in a row. Is there any solutions for this that anyone knows of? Thanks in advance. (playbook 32g latest OS)

Similar problem here same settings work fine on Iphone4. Just seems to stick on "verifying" on my Ipad2 Please somebody - driving me nuts. OP have you sorted it??

  • Struggling with POP email account setup

I'm struggling to get my POP email accounts setup on my new iPhone. Seems like a great device, but without email, it's useless to me.
I've setup these same 4 email accounts dozens of times on different computers. I've entered all the Host names, passwords, and advanced settings (for the first email account). I have two problems. I can't send from any of my email accounts. One is a POP3 account and my primary email on my iPhone. I seem to receive messages but cannot send. I have two SWBell/Yahoo accounts which can receive, but won't send.
Second problem is that I'm trying to setup a 4 account which is a POP account, but it won't let me set this one up. It keeps coming back with "Cannot Connect Using SSL". If I say "Yes" to the question about trying to setup without SSL, it just goes away for a couple of minutes working, then gives me the same error.
Surely I can't be the only one whose having these problems. Thanks in advance for any help!!!
    Regards,
    Ross

For the first 3 accounts the ISPs probably block SMTP connections from outside their network. The test of this is if it works connected to your home WiFi network (if you have one) but not on EDGE. Note also that the SMTP username/password on the iPhone says "optional", but it is actually required when off-network.
If you are not connected via WiFi you can use AT&T's SMTP server when connected via EDGE. It is cwmx.com, and does not require a username or password.
On the 4th account you haven't given any real information to help you. Assuming you have all of the server names correct you probably have the wrong encryption method. You mentioned SSL, but it could also be TLS or NTLM (or others that are not supported by the iPhone). Also, if it is a MS Exchange account the server may not be configured to support IMAP, which is required form the iPhone connecting to Exchange.

  • Outlook 2013 - Multiple accounts set up in Outlook for same pop email account

I started having issues receiving emails in Outlook from my existing POP email account at Yahoo, so I set up a new account and deleted the old one in Outlook 2013.  This fixed the problem in that the new account was successfully receiving emails from
    Yahoo.
Outlook now continues to show the old account (and the folders within it) in the left hand menu as well as new account.
Is there a way to merge these two accounts?

When you setup POP3 account in Outlook, it would connects server and download the message item to data file - .pst file. It stored in the local drive and we can manage it as we thought:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287070/en-us
From your post, it seems that you've completed to setup the new account and remain the old one in the same Outlook profile. If you want to merge the message items from the old PST to new one, just select all items from old folders and move all them to the
new folder. (We may also move the folder directly)
To remove the old account, please first set the new email account as the default one and then go to  File > Info > Account settings > Select the old one and remove it.
    Thanks.

  • Cannot set up my POP email account

I have a POP email account from my hosting service. At home I use this with Apple Mail, with the outgoing server to be my ISP. Works fine.
I have tried entering all this info on the Touch, and it spins a long time verifying pop settings" and then fails.
Sometimes I get a dialog about a bad certificate, or about trying without SSL, which i say yes to. But no luck.
My Mobile Me and Google accounts work fine.
    Help!?

Let me guess, you're using Charter? Check out this support thread...a solution has not been found yet but it could be helpful. http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7073620

  • Does iOS 6 support POP email account?

Does iOS 6 support using POP email accounts?  And if so, how do I set one up?

Did go to Charter.net and went looking for assistance. Surprise! The answer was right there waiting for me, sorta. Looked under Support > Mobile Email Settings. Voila !
I got the account to load on the iPhone 3Gs using iOS 6.  Had to change the settings to be "mobile.charter.net" and it is an IMAP account now.
    How strange.
Thanks for all the helpful folks.

  • I created a mobileconfig to setup the users POP email accounts but it creates to accounts on their device.  Why?

I created a mobileconfig profile using the Apple Configurator to help our users setup their POP email account.  For some reason the configuration creates two email accounts in iOS 8 but only one in iOS 6.  When I delete the profile in iOS 8 it only deletes one of the accounts and leaves the other as an orphan.  I cannot even manually delete the account that is left behind.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Funny,
Right after I posted this I found the solution......  The key was not modifying the Script after it is created.  I guess the editor was putting in some incompatible characters somewhere.  Anyway it is working great now.

  • How do I sync my non-apple email account settings (5 email addresses) with my ipad air using OS X Mavericks?

I recently acquired a new iPad air (first time ipad user) and while I am quite happy with icloud, I seem to be unable to sync all of my remaining email account settings (automatically) with apple mail under OS X Mavericks.
I simply want to use all of my email accounts, which are setup in Mail (on my imac) with my iPad without having to add them manually to my iPad. This used to be no problem with all previous versions of OS X. Email account settings could be synchronized using the respective tool located within the info tap in itunes.
    Are there any solutions?
Do I really have to add each and every email account now separately to all of my idevices???
    This is ridiculous!!!

Unfortunately there seems to be no practical solution. You will have to go through the hassle of setting up your accounts manually.
Strange enough though, when setting up my new macbook (clean install, no data migration) all e-mail accounts where setup automatically through icloud (yes, even my non-apple accounts).
I guess and this is a rough guess that this is supposed to work with all other idevices too.

  • HELP!!!  I deleted a POP email account w/4000+ messages in it and they disappeared

I have been told all my messages are gone forever but I find that just hard to believe.  If this were a Windows machine I could recover them because it just deletes the first character in the name of the file.  Am I to believe that Apple doesn't have something even remotely similar?
I have been able to recover a few hundred from my iPhone which also had access to the POP account but many years of emails are just not there.
I thought for sure I could delete the account and recreate it as I was making it an IMAP account but I'm having no luck getting most of my life for the past 4 years back.  (And yes, I know, I should have backed up - but I hadn't in over a year.)  Lazy I know so please don't rub it in.
I drove 100 miles to go to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store and that is how I learned to recover the ones on the phone but that was a painfully slow process of doing them pretty much one at a time because I'd select 50 or so and some would be able to be moved and some wouldn't - which was frustrating so I finally just went through and kept the ones that were most important.
Anyone got any good news or ideas for me to try?

    Thomas,
"Note that you were warned that this would happen and approved it.  When you delete an e-mail account in Mail, you are shown a message like the following:"
You didn't read my problem - I said I deleted a POP email account.  I always read the messages that pop up and in Mail when you delete a POP account - IT DOESN'T TELL YOU NUTHIN!  It just deletes it - which *** for me.  Fortunately, I had an iPhone and on that device I had about a 1000 messages that I could recover but on all my POP accounts I download them from the server onto my Mac so they were only on Mail (the really old ones that I wanted to keep.)  I had to move them into another directory one by one basically because when I would move 50 some of them would move and some wouldn't and I never did figure out that problem.  Basically the ones that would not move are the ones that were associated with my domain changes with GoDaddy, and there were a lot of those.  Have no idea as to why only those were resistant to moving but I can get all that data from GoDaddy anyway.
This thread is now moot seeing as how I've recovered everything I can and am going to just move on - and back up more often.  ;-)
Apple and Mail need to rewrite that program to include a WARNING MESSAGE when deleting an Account in Mail that says ALL YOUR MESSAGES ARE GOING TO DISAPPEAR NEVER TO RETURN IF YOU DELETE THIS ACCOUNT, SO YOU DANG WELL BETTER HAVE A BACK UP IF YOU WANT TO KEEP ANYTHING BEFORE PRESSING THAT MINUS SYMBOL!  ;-)

  • Email Accounts settings is grayed out. What can I do?

    Hi,
The Email Accounts Settings has been grayed out. I cannot make any changes to my current email accounts, add new, or delete old email accounts. How can I ungray it?

In my case, no restrictions are enabled.  Accounts still grayed out.  I was forced to change my appleid password and now everything is dorked up.  I have gone everywhere I know to put in the new password.  It works on the phone and on my computers, but not on the iPad.
