Modifying preinstalled items at library/WebServer

Hi there,
I accidentally deleted a folder (can't remember what it was) in Macintosh HD's library/WebServer. The folder called CGI-executables is still there, but the second one isn't.

It seems like it might affect future software updates...??
Apparently I am supposed to do this, according to the document: "If you have modified preinstalled items in the folder /Library/WebServer/Documents, you should back up the folder as a precaution before installing system software updates." How do I do the back up?
I am not computer savvy, so I would appreciate it if someone helped me out.

Use Pacifist to extract that folder and its contents from your Mac OS X 10.4 installation disks, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X.

Drag the Documents folder to another location, such as the desktop or an external drive. If a green circle doesn't appear while dragging, press and hold the Option key until the mouse or trackpad button is released.

Before you try to copy your iPhoto library anywhere, make sure it does not have any inconsistencies, that could prevent copying. Run a rebuild, using the First Aid tools. See this post by Old Toad on how to do it: Re: iPhoto version 8.1.2

That error message is very typical for copying between incompatible file systems. I get this error message usually when I try to move iPhoto libraries or Aperture libraries to drives with MS Dos (FAT) or unix formatting, or when some of the image files inside the library contain ethnic characters (Umlaute), have very long file names, or the filenames contain other special characters.
Do you have any other large data sets that you could try to move to your NAS instead of your iPhoto library? Movies, Music? Then move these first to have enough working space, when you try to move the iPhoto library. If you are running out of space, it will be difficult for the OS to move large amounts of data at once. That will need working space.

The operation can't be completed because the item "iTunes Library Extras.itdb" is in use.

I backed up my PC's iTunes folder to an external drive after selecting to consolidate files, etc.
I connected the external drive to my Mac and did a copy and paste of the iTunes folder. I have not put any music into the iTunes on the Mac, so I just said Yes to overrite (it said there are 2 files that will be overwritten- I think they are apps I downloaded this weekenad i am fine to overwrite them). It starts to copy and then I get the error message: "The operation can’t be completed because the item “iTunes Library Extras.itdb” is in use." I verified that I do not have iTunes open on the Mac and made sure that when I backed up from PC, I did not have iTunes open there either.
Any ideas?

I figured it out!
There was an iTunes folder on my new Mac. I may have installed it. I just deleted the whole iTunes folder under Music. I then tried copying and pasting from my External Drive again and now it is copying the data as I would expect.

How do I point Websites at the old /Library/Webserver/Documents? I've still got a lot of data there.

From much earlier versions of Mac OS, I had quite a bit of data cached in the then-standard folders /Library/Webserver/Documents and ~/Sites/.
What's the standard practice for dealing with those other folders when moving up to Server? I've got experimental installs of Joomla, Drupal, Groupware, and a Dokuwiki I would really hate to lose. The Alias command seemed the most appropriate way to point at those folders, but that didn't work at all.

Addendum: I may have found a solution that is quick (good), easy (good) and reveals a hideous and pernicious security hole within the OS X Server environment (bad).

I had that idea when I got into Terminal and did an ls -la in the /Library/Server/Web/Data/Sites/Default folder. Every default.html.xx was an alias to a localized default.html within the Server.Appl bundle itself.
On the one hand, this is very good in that it allows me to bypass all that Aliasing within the Server app itself.

Originally I thought by copying items to library I would be making an exact copy of my originals and that would serve as a duplicate or backup copy. My originals are on my EHD#1 and my iPhoto library is on my EHD#2. But now I realize that I can not view my iPhoto library unless my EHD#2 is connected to my computer (duh!!) So now I would like to NOT copy times to library and I want to have the library in the Pictures folder on my laptop HD. So I guess my question is do I have to start completely over? Yes you would have to start over from scratch.
But you should really think this through very carefully. Experienced users do not recommend iPhoto used in this mode, and with very good reasons. Among them
1. It's more work for exactly no gain
2. It's unreliable - especially - when the library is on one volume and the photos are on another. One change to the path between the files and the library and you'll be reconnecting every photo in the Library back to the database, one by one.

If the item is in your iTunes library then it is already saved.
With the iPod plugged in then select the items that you want to sync to the iPod. You can sync your entire library to the iPod - space permitting - or just selected content.

Can't modify line item text in financial document

Dear all,
In some cases I'm not able to modify line item text field in financial documents, and I don't know why.
I've checked customizing and BSEG-SGTXT appears as modificable field in any case.
As far as i know text field is not a relevant field, so the system should let me modify it if the customizing is right.
Does anyone know if there could be any other customizing that affects this transaction (FB02)?

Since you indicated the entry is from goods receipt, I understand that you are trying to change the line item text in a GL line item.
If so, please ensure the following:
1. in OB32, for Account type S and Field name BSEG-SGTXT, the trasaction type is blank, "Field can be changed" is ticked and "Posting period not closed" and "Line item not cleared" are not ticked.
2. In OB32, for Account type S and field name BSEG-SGTXT, no other entry is there along with company code which has a different rule.
3. You can enough authorization to change the document.
4. If you can change the text, but cannot save it, then please check whether any validation/BTE is in place which is not allowing to do so.

SQL Query pricing modifier vs item vs customer

I'm writing a query to retrieve information about price modifier by item and customer. It works fine if the product_attr_value = item_id, but having a very basic knowledge of SQL I don't know how to map the item_id if the product_attr_value = 'ALL' (modifier applied to all items). Could someone please shed a light.

Items in library linked together somehow, but want to delete one

I'm practice with Flash, and trying out different things, but somehow, I managed to create a movie symbol from a graphic symbol, and now whenever I try deleting one of the symbols, it effects the other symbol as well.
I only want one of these symbols, yet I can't seem to only keep one. They both seem to depend on each other, and I don't know how to get around this.
Could someone please help me. This is really frustrating because it doesn't make sense right now as to why I can't edit one and not the other without them both changing in appearence.

If you create symbol_1 and use an instance of it inside another symbol_2, then symbol_2 uses symbol_1. So if you delete or modify symbol_1 via the library, it is removed from or modified in any other symbol the uses it.
The only way to get around this is to recreate symbol_1 inside symbol_2 rather than place an instance of it inside.

Just had an issue reported by a customer. They tried to amend a UDF on an Item Master record and they can change data such as the Item description, remarks etc and update the item successfully... However, when they tried to amend the contents of the UDF's attached to the Item the system issue the message:

I figured it out
We had a UDF name U_Discount that was set to only allow Y or N.
In the database I had a space after the Y or N value for some of the records. I discovered it by running
SELECT distinct [U_Discount], COUNT(*) FROM [OITM] group by [U_Discount]
No idea how the space got there, but I ran
update OITM set U_Discount = 'N' where LEFT(U_Discount,1) = 'N'
update OITM set U_Discount = 'Y' where LEFT(U_Discount,1) = 'Y'
and it fixed it

I have a problem with the Items object. I have a folder on the Item MasterData form and a extra table that stores the info from that tab.
When I try to update an item i get this error message :

I can update items normally if my addon is stopped. I have read something about a similar message about PO, but I get the error on all items( even newly added ones) so I don't think it's about them being involved in PO.
Any ideas on this matter ?

I faced a similar error once, i also modified the Item Master screen and added a tab with an extra table, then i was modifing the FORM MODE explicitly.
If ur are modifing the FORM MODE explicitly we may get this error.

Scripts missing from Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables

I updated my Tiger system to Leopard, and in general all is well, however, there are no scripts in Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables. I believe there should be at least two, test-cgi and printenv. In fact, I can't find these anywhere on Leopard. Can anyone point me to copies of these scripts? I did not try to use Web Sharing until after upgrading to Leopard, if I put my own script into Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables, my browsers do access it correctly.

I have none in either Tiger or Leopard, but then I've never run a webserver. Have you backed up your Tiger installation. If so, copy them from there. If not, bad juju.

You will never be able to open this file with iWeb, because, as it states it is a User/Sites/index.html file and iWeb cannot open this files - anything with html on the end of it is already published and iWeb cannot open this. It is not the same as your domain file.
Go to User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and try opening your domain file, rather than something that is already published. iWeb cannot import - at least not published pages.

Can't find "manual" folder in /Library/WebServer/Documents/

I am trying get MAMP working with the apache server on Mac OS X. But I can't seem to find the manual folder that should exist in /Library/WebServer/Documents/manual. Any one know why? Or where I can get a fresh download of the stuff that should be there?

They do not exist in the server DocumentRoot
If you're running Apache2, the httpd.conf has a line:
AliasMatch ^/manual(?:/(?:de|en|es|fr|ja|ko|pt-br|ru))?(/.*)?$ "/Library/WebServer/share/httpd/manual$1"
This essentially tells Apache to serve any request for /manual* from /Library/WebServer/share/httpd/manual which is where you'll find the docs you're asking about.
Since the alias exists, you can also visit http://ip.of.your.server/manual/
