Modifying slice 1 of an installation CD

My goal is to create a custom installation CD that can be used to do a hands-off "Core" (SUNWCreq) Solaris 8 install. I've followed the Sun BluePrint document which describes this, but that procedure only discusses customizing slice 0 (HSFS).
In order to automate the sysidcfg-related info (the systems being installed won't be able to get this information via NIS, bootparams, or anything on a network), I need to modify something on slice 1 (UFS filesystem).
I'd like to have the etc/inittab file on slice 1 spawn a script I've installed under usr/bin on slice 0, rather than the '/sbin/startup' script that normally kicks off the Solaris install.
I've seen a couple references on the net that suggest using a hex editor on the slice1 image; I've done this and verified via 'cmp' that nothing change else changed aside from the one string I substituted. Still I've managed to produce nothing but coasters when I burn the modified image for slice1. Slice 1 from the CD is not mounted by 'vold', and the CD is not bootable. If I stick with the original slice1 image the resulting CD is useable, but it automatically goes into an interactive install.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
     Chris

Thanks for your reply Renato. We have created custom MSP file using Office Customization Tool & using below parameter for installation:
    setup.exe /adminfile customfile.msp /config customfile.xml
there is no issue with installation & office also works fine. we are using office 2013 professional plus 32bit version on windows 7 x64.
when we click on change wizard popup for few seconds & then disappears. no information about same is logged into event viewer.
check the office setup logs (logs are created whenever office setup.exe is executed, this includes ARP change/repair)
the office setup logs are located in %TEMP%, so, if setup.exe is launched by ConfigMgr that is c:\windows\temp, but if setup.exe is launched by a user that is C:\Users\Don\AppData\Local\Temp
The logfiles are named like this: SetupExe(2014092418203415B8).log

  • VMware slices Crash during Grid installation [ Ora 11 G R2,VMware Linux ]

    Hi,
Iam using Windows Xp [ 32 bit  ] with 4 GB RAM and 150 GB Hard-disk.
I have installed VMWare Server with 2 RAC nodes [ along with the shared disk ], following the steps given at oracle-base.com.
However, during the grid installation, vmware slices [ RAC1, RAC2 ] are getting closed automatically, when i run "root.sh" on rac2 node.
The script ran fine on node1 [ rac1 ] and this problem is occuring only during rac2 run.
I have kept the memory as 2GB each and allocated 45 GB each with 10 GB for each shared disk.
Requesting help/info on the above, as why the nodes come down, during the installation.
Also, wanted to know, lets say, if grid installation failed and we found/fixed the problem. Can we re-run the grid installation from the point, it failed ?
    Regards
    Roopesh M.

VMWare is not supported for Oracle Clusterware/RAC. That may itself be the reason. Oracle VM is tested and supported. Perhaps you may want to try that

  • Can't Sync Ipad 2 with Computer b/c Itunes 11.1 installation fails

Hello! I have a question in regards to my ipad 2 and syncing it to my computer. I recently installed IOS 7 onto my Ipad 2, but when I went to sync it with my computer, Itunes gave me an error saying that I needed to download and install itunes 11.1 for compatibility reasons with IOS 7. So, I was able to successfully download the new versions of itunes directly from the itunes website, but the issue came when the installation process began. The installation ran and had finished in a short amount of time and then I received this message:
"Errors occured during the installation before iTunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To complete the installation, run the installer again. Click finish to exit the installer."
So I went ahead and downloaded the software multiple times (5 times) and attempted to install it multiple times and I constantly receive the same error that is displayed above. If anyone has any clue on how to fix this I'd GREATLY appreciate anyone's suggestions. I generally can fix these problems myself but this problem seems to be persistent and many other people are having similar issues.

I have to say this would only happen on a windows PC,   Why it doesn't prompt you to close all windows baffle me still!
The install gets hung up because of an open window.   You must close all windows before installation.
Open downloads and delete the downloads you did so far.
To get the install back on track:
Scary, but it will be the cleanest install.  Uninstall iTunes using the control center.  Directions can be found here:
    http://www.ehow.com/how_5610253_uninstall-reinstall-itunes-windows.html
Note...you must close all windows during install.   After the download, open download window, close all other windows.
    Click on install.

  • ITunes 11.1 for Windows 64 bit not downloading, says a problem occurred with the installer.

iTunes starts to download and the pop-up asking to allow Apple Inc. to make changes to the hardrive comes up but the installer then says "The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured. Errors occured during installation. Your system has not been modified. Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit."
I have tried using different web browsers to install it, all with the same error message. Anyone know how to fix this please?

I've updated and restarted my computer and iTunes has now successfully installed.

  • "Your system has not been modified" iTunes download error.

Hello, this is my first time asking for support so I hope I provide all the information needed.
    Background:
A while back my elder sister went into my computer and messed some settings up because iTunes was being wonky and not updating her new iPhone properly (turns out later the iPhone itself was having issues - not my computer nor iTunes). I used an older version of iTunes because I had an older iTouch and didn't need the newest version, but I didn't have any complaints when she updated it. I come back one day and iTunes isn't working alltogether, and when I plug in my iTouch it tells me there's an error and I need to re-install iTunes (or somewhere along that line, I was stupid and didn't screencap the message). (I asked her what she had done and said "Updated your computer! It hadn't been updated in so long, and then iTunes stopped working! Beats me!" and she can't tell me exactly WHAT she changed and downloaded.) So, I went through the uninstall process and went to the Apple website to download it again, but it kept giving me a "Your system has not been modified" error. This was a long time ago but I came back to my computer to try and solve it again and I've tried to redownload it off the website multiple times but it gives me the same error.
I went into my control panel and "add/remove progreams" to see if anything was left over from the uninstall process but I can't find any iTunes files. Any idea on how to get iTunes back onto my computer?
    TL;DR:
    "iTunes Installer Completed
The installer encountered errors before iTunes could be configured.
Errors occured during installation. Your system has not been modified.
Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit."

I had the same problem.I tried every solutions on the net but nothing worked.Luckily on that very day my free avast antivirus date expired(I dont currently have a paid antivirus) and I uninstalled it.Then I tried to install itunes and did it on the first go.But I am using a windows 7 32 bit so it might not work for you as you are on the 64 bit.Actually the antivrus was the culprit.Hope it helps. Thanks

  • During a error updating, I had to reinstall iTunes. When proceeding to install iTunes, the installer chooses M:// I dont have a M drive, I click change and the iTunes installer crashes. I've tried everything, help!

Seriously no idea whats going on, and I'm usually pretty good with figuring an issue
    Heres the isse:
When updating iTunes, after the restart I booted up iTunes and it crashed. I was prompted with iTunes had been updated incorrectly and to uninstall and reinstall iTunes. After downloading the installer from itunes.ca. I opened up the application, and clicked Next. Under the directory it says M Drive, I dont have an M drive at all, I click change and a prompt pops that says, "The volume M:/ is currently unavailable. Please select another." with "ok" being the only selection.
After hitting ok, it says "itunes installer completed" "Errors occured during installation before iTunes could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To complete the installation, run the installer again. Click Finish to exit the installer." Finish is the only selectable, and upon restarting the installer the same thing happens. I hope theres someone who can help me out with this.

    Hello Fix88,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with installing iTunes.  I found a couple of resources that I think will help with this.
I recommend reviewing the following articles:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376
Issues installing iTunes or QuickTime for Windows

When uninstalling iTunes, it is important to remove iTunes and all related components in the order listed.

To clarify, I already have iTunes 10.6. Also, I just checked back on the iTunes installer (the manual one) and it now says: "iTunes Installer Completed
The installer encountered errors before iTuens could be configured.
Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified.

I've been researching a bit further on the forum. From what I understand, with Adobe Reader 7 and onwards the 'bUI: false' statement is no longer a trusted function.
There has been suggestions to create a folder level script file that specifies this as a trusted function, however in my company this is not practical. This email function will be used in a form used across the globe by hundreds of our users. Therefore a local script (.js) file is not suitable in this instance.
Is it not possible to code this within the button script itself, rather than using a seperate .js file.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
