Modifying the search in a chm

Is it possible to modify the search in a.chm so that only relevant topics to your search keyword show up? I came across this site that makes it possible to improve the webhelp by editing some Jscript code, but I wasn't sure if it was possible in a .chm:
http://www.helpscribe.com/2008/10/improving-webhelp-search-results-in.html
If anyone has any ideas, it'd be greatly appreciated!

Hi again
I would think the search would fail to produce any results if you change the extensions, but if it's getting you what you want I'll leave it alone.
I normally change the extension in Windows Explorer. Naturally this renders the topic as being missing because I sneaked behind RoboHelp's back and pulled the old switcheroo. Then I delete the topic from RoboHelp's Project Manager and amend any links to point to the new .XHTM. After that I add the renamed .XHTM topic to baggage so RoboHelp is aware it should be included. However, as you are building a CHM file, the compiler normally pulls in all referenced files automagickally, so you may not need to take the step of adding to baggage. But if it were me I'd probably do it anyway as a safeguard.
Hopefully this helps... Rick

How to modify the search results of the GUI for subscribing to calendars
    Note:

<LI>The following information applies only to iPlanet Calendar Server 5.0
    Patch 3.
<LI>All of the cases for which the XSLT changes will work have not been

<LI>The following is only an example of an XSLT customization.

The example below shows a sample customization of the
    search_for_calendars
dialog. This customization will result in the Display Name being included as
part of the search results in the GUI, which would normally show just the
calendar ID. It will render the returned calendars in the following format:
    <P>
    Display Name - <I>description</I>

Normally, the format would be as follows:
    <P>
    Calendar-ID - <I>description</I>

The example consists of the following two files:

  • Modifying the search form so it appends the '%' to String input fields

    Hi guys,
How can I modify the search form to search for '%'sometext'%' instead of just sometext for input fields that take string type as input; not programmatically!

    Hi,
you would have to do this one way or the other. Either in the managed bean (which then passes the search input to the underlying model) or in the business services (ADF BC for example)

  • Modifying the search criteria for my tabular form...!!!!

Hey guyz i m back again with a query related to my tabular form that i have developed through your help...
I presented my application to the management 2day...eveything went fine but they want me to modify the search criteria according to thr needs.
    1. They want me to include a drop box which has all the fields dispalyed in the table like .. EMPNO,STC,NAME,NATIONALITY,POSITION,
& beside this drop box they want me to include a empty field such that if select NATIONALITY from the drop down box and enter the concerned nationality in the search box and press Search button i should get all the emp with particular nationality
FOR EX: In the drop down box i select NATIONALITY and in the search box i type GERMAN ,... now when i click i should be getting all germans available in the company
2.We have got evaluations for all emp in percentages
Now from the drop down i select POSITION in the box beside i enter( HP:80-90) then i should be able to retrieve all the EMP working with position HP and evaluations between 80%-90%
FOR EX : DROP BOX: Position
    TEXT ITEM: HP:80-90
Click Search I get all the EMP with evaluation between 80-90 and so on
How should i modify this ......creating a separate search box for each column would have been easy but how should i implement this what the management wants from me..????

  • How can I modify the search code for a site I've added to the search bar?

I've added [http://www.yourdictionary.com/ YourDictionary] to my search bar. When I put in a word (e.g., minutiae) and press [Enter], the address bar shows, http://www.yourdictionary.com/search?ydQ=minutiae and, the default search word "search" is shown on the YourDictionary page which appears, ''not ''my desired search word. When I put in my desired word in the search field on YourDictionary's page, the address bar shows, http://www.yourdictionary.com/minutiae So, it appears that FF search bar is sending the wrong code. How can I customize what it sends to YourDictionary or any site I want to search. Thanks for a great browser.

Well, I thought that is what I was looking for. Thank you.
    Here's what I set:
    <os:Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="http://www.yourdictionary.com/{searchTerms}">
    </os:Url>
    </SearchPlugin>
And guess what, the behavior was the same. I was a bit confused.
I tried shutting down and restarting FireFox and then my computer. My tabs were saved. Still the same behavior. So, I kept the YourDictionary.xml on my clipboard, removed it from the search box, closed firefox, saved the xml to the search plugin subdirectory of the profile directory, closed my notepad, restarted firefox and . . . . tadaaaa ''it worked.'' Thank you!

  • Modifying the search path of the include files when compiling with CC

    Hi All,
In my current task, i am working on a new module.
    - There are many source-files where header-files of type, "#include <something.h>" are included.
    - The new Module just replaces the body of "something.h".
Originally <something.h> is present in system-wide location.
Now, i am trying to compile the code with the new files created, using "-I-" option.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E19205-01/821-1384/bjadq/index.html
    Section 2.16.1 in above says:
For include files of the form #include "foo.h", search the directories in the following order:
    1. The directories named with -I options (both before and after -I-).
    2. The directories for compiler-provided C++ header files, ANSI C header files, and special-purpose files.
    3. The /usr/include directory.
For include files of the form #include <foo.h>, search the directories in the following order:
1.The directories named in the -I options that appear after -I-.
    2. The directories for compiler-provided C++ header files, ANSI C header files, and special-purpose files.
    3. The /usr/include directory.
When i used the "-I-" option,[[ -I-  -I/my/own/module/path ]] it could not include the common header files. [like <functional>, <algorithm>...etc]
If "-I-" option is not used it could find the above headers.
Could someone tell me what am i doing wrong here?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Sreekar

Extension to the above. [could't edit and save it, hence placing it here]
I know that specifying a system-wide locations manually is not standard, but tried the following to see if there is any work-around.
I manually included "/usr/include/c++/4.1.1" to search for <algorithm> and then CC complained saying that, it could not find "bits/c++locale.h" which is internally included in "<algorithm>" .
I am working on RHEL 5.4 (x86_64 arhictecture)
When included "/usr/include/c++/4.1.1/x86_64-redhat-linux", got the following error:

  • Modifying the Seeded oracle Page's search region

I have a situation where i need to add one more search field in my open Requirements page in Oracle PRM. This "Open Requirements" Registered as function in oracle with akRegionCode parameter. I found region.xml and able to find the map between region code and the path where the original xml is stored. but my issue is i'm trying to copy the original Page XMl file to MYrequire.xml and modified the search region there to add one more field for search.and also i paced this xml in the same location as other one. but how to get this new custom XML work. i tried modifying regionxml file's region code to poing this new xml i have created but no luck. it still bringing the OLD one. So can you please help me here so that i can address our requirement.

    user626393,
You need to be more detailed. Is it a simple search page or are you talking of the LOV window? What is the seeded function call? Is the new search field part of the seeded VO?

  • Search results in CHM

When using the Search tab in CHM file, I would like users to search and find results only from the TOC list of topics rather than all the topics that are available in the project. For example, there are few incorrectly named HTML pages with incorrect content. I do not want these to appear in search results as they are not part of TOC. (I can delete these pages, but would liketo keep them for some content re-use).
Can anybody guide me on this?
    Thanks.

    Hi there
Try renaming the pages from using .HTM so that they use .XHTM instead.

  • Can you modify the default columns displayed in standard lists?

    Hi,
Is it possible to changes the columns displayed in the standard out of the box lists? e.g. All Companies.
After making our customisations most objects need to have their standard list columns modified and I do not really want to have to re-create all the standard lists we want to use in order to get relevant columns displayed?
    Thanks for the help.

    Hi,
I don't believe you can modify the out of the box lists without recreating them.
Not sure if this will work for you, but a possible workaround would be to use Search Layouts to achieve your desired result. For example, if you were to modify the Search Layout for accounts to reflect all the relevant columns you need to display, then a simple search for "*" as the Account Name would result in a search for All Accounts in the list format you wish to see.
    Hope this helps.

    Cameron

  • What is the "Search Ctrl + K " bar for?

I've spent 4 or 5 hours trying to answer this question. When I started, I wanted to search mailboxes. I figured out other ways of doing it.
It produces the statement 'filters 'from me(0)' 'to me(0)' with little check boxes that are grayed out. It also says 'no messages match your search'. When I typed my term into the bar, there word was in the currently visible email.
When typing the term in the bar says 'search bing for ...' which I certainly don't want to do, but if I did.. why the comment about 'no messages'?
I have not seen a way to modify the search engine in the tool bar.
I've read all about global search, and deleting the global search index. It doesn't seem relevant.
I give up, but maybe I can save someone else 5 hours.

In addition to Global Search the search bar can also be used to perform an Internet search with the search engine you set. Default in Thunderbird is Bing.
The 'no messages match your search' message indicates just what it says - no match.
Have you tried rebuilding the search index? I think it is relevant.

  • Deleting the search help

    Hi all,
I have created a elementary search help and assigned some parameters and copied them to the table. now i have modified the search help. but it is not getting modified in the table. so i want to delete the existed one.
can someone help out in this issue?
    **************Points will beReward**********
    Regards,
    Santosh

    Hi Santhose,
the problem here is you assigned the search help to the field before change, thats why you are getting previous one.first after changing the searchhelp activate it.Then activate the table also.
till now if you are not getting the changed searchhelp then delete the searchhelp and again add the searchhelp.
but the first thing will definitely work.

  • ALI Search error: "Error - Could not contact the Search Service"

    Hi,
I have installed Aqualogic Interaction with all its components.
While trying to search for a string, it is throwing this error:
"Error - Could not contact the Search Service".
Unable to figure it out. Is this because of the search host settings?
Where can I check/modify the search host settings? I am not able to find them.
Can someone please help on this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ashok

The settings for the search server are located in Administration. Go to the utilities drop down, from here you should see Search Service Manager. Here you should see the contact node host and port.
Make sure the Search Server is running. Also, import the searchcluster.pte file so that the Search Cluster Manager is visible in the utilities drop down.

  • How can I remove the Location column from the search results in a .chm file?

How can I remove the Location column from the search results in a .chm file?
I generated the file in Robohelp HTML 9.
As far as I know it's used when you've combined more than one source into the final help file. It is possible (though I don't remember doing it) that I did that once a couple of years ago but now I'm only using one source - the project that's generating the .chm.
Can anyone tell me how I can remove it?
    Thanks
    Tom

In Project Setup look at the Window properties. I think you will find Advanced Search is ticked.

  • How do I keep from highlighting terms in the search bar when I modify a string in the search bar--other than by clicking three to five times?

I'm not talking about terms in the search results; I'm talking about terms in the search string in the search bar in the upper right corner. (Mine is set to use only Google.) When I've searched on a string and decide to modify the string for a second search (say, changing "Spanish architecture" to "Spanish architectural style"), clicking at the end of the search string first highlights the entire string and then, as I keep clicking, highlights various parts of the string. Sometimes it takes five clicks to get the highlighting to go away so I can start back-deleting normally instead of by entire word or phrase. The Google homepage doesn't do this, whereas all search engines in Firefox do it, so it's clearly a Firefox annoyance.

Left click ONCE to get it's attention. After a moment, then do your work.

  • How to apply conditional build tags to the topic title that is displayed in Search tab of CHM?

I have the project in which 2 different words are used to reffer to one objects (this word/term depends on the customer). All other information related to functionality, steps, etc. are common. So:
In the help content (body of the files), I created 2 conditional build tags (CBT) for these terms.
In TOC, if topic title contains the term, I created 2 different topics reffered to the single topic file, but the title of the topic shows correct term (depends on CBT).
File names of this topics contain only term1.
The problem occurs when I generate CHM for CBT2 and search for the term1 (marked with CBT1) using the Search tab. All occurrencies where term1 presence in the file name, appear in the found results.
How can I resolve the issue?
These topics must be found by search (that's why "Exclude from search" option is not a decision).

Ahhh, you are correct. I believe it was Version 10 introduced that.
So here's what I'd suggest. Even though you are unable to use a variable in a Topic Title, it can still be used in other places such as the TOC, the Index and in the Topic content. So I'd still recommend that you declare and use a variable for those items. Just to simplify things.
As for any topics that have the term in the title, you could create two topics. One with the term one way and the other with the term the opposite way. Then use a Conditional Build Tag to exclude and remove the one that shouldn't be found.
This may cause you a bit of a maintenance issue by having the same topic content in more than one place. (one for each topic)
So to overcome that, you would be able to add the main body information to a topic and use an Inline Frame in the two topics that would then simply be shells with appropriate Topic Titles. Either that or declare a snippet and use the snippet in both topics. Put the main part in the snippet.
    Cheers... Rick
