Modifying url in most visited site?

I use the "most visited sites" bookmark for nearly all my regular navigation. One of the sites I've most visited has changed a bit (it's an automotive forum that updated their forum software), so the URLs (3 of them) to the subforums that I like to visit no longer apply.
Rather than waiting for Firefox to see that I'm visiting the new URL as opposed to the old one (and that URL I have been visiting for years and years), I wonder if there is a way to modify the entry in the most visited sites. Or modify wherever firefox stores that a particular URL has been visited x number of times so decides to include and rank it within the most visited list.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Thank you cor-el. I installed SQLite manager and browsed to places.sqlite. From there I looked in the moz_places table and could clearly see the visit count. I was able to easily modify both the # of visits, and the URL, and the changes were properly reflected in the most visited menu. This will allow me to update the URLs to my most visited forum.
Thank you!!!

  • Need to restore the feature of most visited sites shown upon opening a new tab

I have checked through my add-ons and can't find the solution. I've read answers that state go to the about: config. I can't find that either. I simply want my most visited sites upon opening a new tab feature restored. Help, please.

Hello tee6942, is about:config not about: config (no space between : and config)
in the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/awesome-bar-find-your-bookmarks-history-and-tabs Location bar], type [http://kb.mozillazine.org/About:config about:config] and press Enter.
The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
type '''browser.newtab.url''' in the search box, and then '''right-click on it '''and select '''reset'''.

  • When I open a new tab, instead of showing my most visited sites, it automatically brings me to a website I haven't favorited or visited.

Pretty much as the question states. Whenever I open a new tab, it directs me to this site called Babylon Search, some sort of search engine-looking website that I suspect could contain malware or something of the like. I've tried everything I can and searched through all of the help topics to find a way to restore the ability to preview my most-visited sites without any luck.

  • Opening a new tab brought up a tab with thumbnails of most-visited sites; it stopped doing that. Any idea why, or how to get it back?

When I clicked on the "New Tab" button to the right of the open tabs, the newly opened tab would have thumbnails of my most-visited sites along with a sidebar for recently closed tabs and some other useful links. For some reason, it's stopped doing that, and now just brings up a blank new tab. Is there a way to get this feature back?

That is not a built-in feature of Firefox. There are a few add-ons that offer that type of functionality such as:
    * Speed Dial- https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/speed-dial/
    * Fast Dial - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/fast-dial-5721/
You may have got this feature as part of the Google Toolbar, for details see http://www.google.com/support/toolbar/bin/answer.py?answer=115561

  • I want to keep or add things to my most visited site.

I want to be able to keep my most visited sites and add some new ones. why do they move all over the place?

    * "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" are examples of the so called [[Smart Bookmarks folders]] and are not real existing folders.
    * Such smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores the bookmarks and the history in Firefox.
    * The bookmarks that show up in such smart folder listing are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.
    * Such lists show a maximum of 10 entries by default and you add a new bookmark or visit a website then a new item is added at the top and the entry at the bottom disappears from that list.
    * The items that are removed from the list are not gone, but merely do not show up anymore in that list.
    * Any actions like copy & paste or delete that you perform on bookmarks in such a list are done on the original bookmark.

  • My most visited sites stays blank, used to work, maybe Norton?

my "most visited sites" remains blank, but only a few days ago it was working fine. Could it be a new version of firefox or the new version of Norton that got installed? Actually most visited gets populated during a session but when I close firefox it all goes away. Next session I have to start all over.

There are a number of different "speed dial" or "fast dial" add-ons to do this. To see which one you had before, check your disabled add-ons. There could be an updated version.

  • One of my most visited site is missing from Most Visited Tab.

I look at my browsing history and it shows a site i visit a lot as in the top 5 sites I visit. This site does not show in my Most Visited Tab.

the most visited "header" in my toolbar lists all sorts of sites that are NOT my most visited. And when I pull it up under bookmarks\organize bookmarks the listing there is mostly my most visited, but still shows sites that I have only visited once or twice.

  • When I downloaded new version of firefox, the feature where when I open a new tab a page loads that contains mini-windows containing my most visited sites. where is this feature now!?

So with the new version of firefox I lost the feature where, whenever I opened a new tab, instead of a blank tab page, a page would appear that contained mini-windows containing pics of all my most often used websites. I could then simply click on one of maybe six windows to go directly to my most used sites. What happened to this? I really, really, really miss this feature. How can I get it back?

The Google Toolbar and other extensions for Firefox include a list of compatible Firefox versions. Currently, the Google Toolbar only goes up to Firefox 4. However, people have tested and it actually works on Firefox 5, so there are two workarounds:
    (1) Edit a file to revise the range of compatible versions
    (2) Install an add-on that lets you ignore the range of compatible versions
This thread has info on both approaches: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/837142 google toolbar does not work with firefox 5.0. why not! | Firefox Support Forum | Firefox Help].

  • How can I make a new tab for FF 5.0 show my most visited sites like my prior version did?

Since I installed FireFox 5.0 recently, when I open a new tab, it is just blank. My prior version of FireFox showed about 9 or so of the sites I visited most often. I never set this in the old version. It just worked that way. I loved it. I have no idea how to make it happen in FireFox 5.0. I am even considering re-installing the old version because of this. I hope you cn tell m how to make this work.

  • I had to reinstall Firefox and can't find the "most visited sites"button

Before the reinstall, the feature alllowing you to easily find the sites you most often visit was available. It isn't there now. How can I get this feature back.

  • I want to keep my most visited sites bookmarked but only displays about last 10

Like IE: I can keep adding favorites, forever & still see all listed in a long drop-down list or in folders. But when I bookmark a page in FF & say add it to a folder, then browse some more, & I want to visit my popular sites like my YouTube page, I only see about 10 sites displayed, so if I delete a couple then I can see my YouTube channel again to click on it. But I didn't realize that deleting any recent ones, even if in a folder already, will delete them permanently, defeating the purpose of having them. I want to see a longer list, again not necessarily as long as IE, but readily available.
Hope I explained it well enough for someone to understand what I meant.

There are several different ways to view your bookmarks, some of which are as long as you could ever want.
    (1) Bookmarks Menu
If you have the orange Firefox button, you can hover over the triangle next to Bookmarks to display the full menu. Or, if it's more convenient, press Alt+b to display the classic Bookmarks menu.
    (2) Bookmarks Sidebar
Press Ctrl+b to open or close the Bookmarks Sidebar. It's also accessible from the full View menu.
    (3) Bookmarks Drop-down button
I can't keep track of where this is on the toolbars any more, but there is one somewhere.
    (4) Bookmarks Toolbar
Similar to the IE Links toolbar.

  • I have lost the part of my toolbar where the back up button and stuff is, lost my Most Visited Sites button, ever time I hit a key if freezes on me.

I got this computer from Goodwill, and didn't get a recovery disc with it. And shortly after getting the internet, the troubles started. Really slowing down, having to refresh when I first open a site and stuff like that. I chalked it up to cheap and not real powerful. I bought Fix It 11 but the computer will not download it (so it must be old). But I am on unemployment, can't afford to buy new, no money to have somebody look at it. HELP Me. There has to be a way that I can take my computer back to when I first got it.
    Thank You for your time.

On being prompted to create a new back-up on my Mac by Time Machine I lost a year's worth of back-ups.
You might find useful advice on this Web page: Time Machine Troubleshooting, particularly item C13.
The crazy thing is tht on my ProBook I still have them even though it uses the same Time Capsule, which to mind mind they are still there on the Time Capsule.
Not necessarily.  Each Mac using a particular Time Capsule has its own set of backups that are independent of those of any other Mac.
Has anybody else had this experience or has any suggestions how I can retrieve the info on my Mac?
Why are those backups so important to you?  My advice is to move on and live without them.

  • There's a new feature of most visited sites showing when you open a new tab and mine (all 9 boxes) is blank now, I don't want it to be, what do I do?

I don't have any other details.

Is the disk cache enabled and working?
You can check the cache usage on the about:cache page and you can also check the value of the browser.cache.disk.enable pref on the about:config page.
    See also:
The thumbnails on the about:newtab page are generated from the cache, so if the page is not in the cache or otherwise can't or won't (secure pages) be rendered as a PNG image then you will get an empty box.<br />
*Do not use Clear Recent History to clear data like the cache and the history when you close Firefox
If there is no history then you get an about:newtab page with empty boxes (no URLs).

  • How can I remove sites listed under "Most Visited?" Clearing history doesn't accomplish this.

The tool bar has a category "most Visited" sites and lists the top site. How can I remove this? Clearing the history has not accomplished this.

    Hi,
Usually the category is emptied when the entire history range is erased. You can also permanently remove the '''Most Visited''' category by right-clicking on it and '''Delete'''.
