Module unload during reboot

Hi,
i have loaded my kernel module through modload cmd in Solaris 10, but when i m rebooting my machine then module is automatically unloaded from kernel , how i can solve this problem.

Normally there is no need since the module would be automaticly loaded once the kernel detects the need for it. As far as I know this is done by "installing" the module through the "add_drv(1M)" command. Its even recommended to use this command instead of modload. However, thats only my impression of all this. I haven't dived deeply into this topic yet since so far I didn't need to :-)

    How to erase hardrive during reboot to restore to factory settings?

    I was told to hold down Control R while rebooting, which I did, and then once I'm in disk utility thats where I will erase the hard drive.  The problem is I dont know what I'm really looking at once I get there.  I actually see what looks like 2 hard drives.   one labeld:  500.11 GB ST3500418A and one right below it named Macintosh HD, which one do I select to erase or should I do both?

    I don't see anything that a good call to Oracle Technical Support can't fix.
    Go use your service contract and open a Support Request (SR).
    Else wipe the system and resinstsall everything fresh.
    While you are at it, you should patch your Solaris 9 system with the newest full bundle you can get.
    SunOS Release 5.9 Version Generic_118558-03That system is about a decade under-patched.
    That suggests a deliberate lack of continual maintenance.

  • ATI Radeon HD 5870 failing to detect displays randomly during reboots

    Hello,
    I have a Mac Pro 1,1 A1186 computer, MAC OS X 10.6.6, and I just updated the ole 7300 video card to an ATI Radeon HD 5870 I just purchased from the Apple Store last week.
    Problem: Mac OS X 10.6.6 keeps losing the display settings during reboots and fails to detect one of the monitors (the Acer X233H) randomly upon reboots. I tried using two Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapters, but when that produced undesirable results I just plugged one of the monitors into the DVI diplay port and used just one of the Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapters. Then I tried swapping the monitors around.
    I know both monitors and cables that directly connect to the monitors work fine as *they worked on the 7300 adapter*. I'm not using an Apple display, so I'm wondering do I have a bad card or is this common?
    I tried reseating the card, completely disconnecting it and reinstalling it. I have both power cables plugged into the card, and both monitors will come up eventually if I keep rebooting my system (if they didn't come up the first time).
    Please help... this whole experience is ruining my buzz for purchasing such a kick butt OEM card from Apple. Thank you very much in advanced.
    I have 14GB of RAM, 2TB Western Digital (for backup/archival purposes), and an SSD Patriot Torqx 128GB Drive. The Diagnostics state they passed, and everything else works fine except for the display detection.
    Here is the setup of the monitors I'm using:
    Chipset Model: ATI Radeon HD 5870
    Type: GPU
    Bus: PCIe
    Slot: Slot-1
    PCIe Lane Width: x16
    VRAM (Total): 1024 MB
    Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
    Device ID: 0x6898
    Revision ID: 0x0000
    ROM Revision: 113-C0780C-194
    EFI Driver Version: 01.00.436
    Displays:
    Acer X223W:
    Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz
    Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Rotation: Supported
    ACER X233H:
    Resolution: 1920 x 1080 @ 60 Hz
    Pixel Depth: 32-Bit Color (ARGB8888)
    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Rotation: Supported
    Display Connector:
    Status: No Display Connected

    OK, I took your advise and tried the "active powered" adapter last night. No dice. The monitor detection still doesn't work even after purchasing the $100 adapter for only 2 displays. Connecting one of the monitors to the DVI display in the back and connecting the other display to the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter.
    _This is not the solution as the problem still occurs._
    I also tried reloading Mac OS X Snow Leopard last night wiping out everything on the entire partition to be extreme thinking that the system could be confused. I know I could've just deleted the configuration file, but hey... what the heck.
    After applying the updates I was able to see both displays again, +_however again they got confused_+.
    The end result is from what I believe that the card is inferior in the way it doesn't allow Mac OS X to detect displays properly and or a driver update needs to be issued from Apple to address this issue.
    After trying multiple things it would appear that there is only 1 work around as suggest from above (put the computer to sleep). However, to properly fix things we shouldn't have to utilize work arounds.
    Important facts that lead me to this conclusion are:
    1. Mac OS X 10.6.6 does detect displays properly with the 7300 with no problem.
    2. The monitors and cables work properly with the 7300 card, and other systems. So they are not the issue.
    3. After installing the ATI 5870 card that's when we I experienced the issues that didn't go away no matter what cable I used or where I plugged the monitors.
    a. Thus a $100 cable or a $30 cable worked the same for this issue.
    4. Reinstalling OS X 10.6.6 completely and wiping out everything including the display configuration had no bearing on any of this.
    Therefore, it can only be two things by deduction:
    1. The firmware of the card needs a revision to help support multiple displays.
    and/or
    2. The driver for the ATI 5870 needs a revision to correct multiple display support within the Operating System.
    However, I can't see paying over $500 for a card and an adapter that doesn't work properly. If there is no hope that Apple or ATI is working on this issue with the ATI 5870 card, I have only one recourse and that is not to support this particular ATI product and take it back. I know I can always just keep putting my computer to sleep, but over $500 for a video card and an adapter that is riddled with bugs is way too much for me.
    *I'm taking the card back and reinstalling the 7300 until a proper card can be produced or an update is issued to specifically correct multiple display support.*
    *Thank you* everyone for your help, I really appreciate it. *+However, the users of the systems can only do so much without proper support from Apple and/or ATI on this issue.+*

  • Solaris 10 panics during reboot after successful installation

    hello,
    this is the 2nd time i'm trying to make solaris 10 x86 (latest dvd version) to
    run on my asus w1n laptop. /first i tried cd version in last december./
    and again i'm not being successful. what happens is this:
    after (i guess successful) installation the system reboots and it panics
    during the boot process. where and why exactly i don't know -- it just prints
    the kernel banner and i noticed a change of screen font. and when it panics i
    have no time to write down or even read the message as it reboots in a second.
    does anyone have an idea of what might be going on or how to overcome this
    issue pls ???
    /i want to give the system a try but so far i've got no chance./
    many thanks,
    martin
    ps: pls cc me as i'm not on the list. cheers.

    Martin,
    as a first step, try booting with -v. This will give you more insight on just where your system panics. Obviously, your system at least gets across the point where the video driver is loaded - that's where the screen font changes.
    Since you seem to be able to boot from a CD/DVD Media, you may also try to boot to single user mode from there.
    Don't get confused by the absence of the usual device configuration assistant / 2nd level boot dialog screens when booting from an install media - at the point where you are prompted for an installation type you can also enter, e.g., "b -s" (without the "", of course) for a single user boot.
    You may then try to look into /var/adm/messages on your hard disk installation. USUALLY, you'll find some hints towards the problem source there.
    HIH, kind regards,
    Me

  • Function Modules called during a Transaction

    Hi Experts,
           Is there a way to find out the Function Modules/BAPI's called when I run a Transaction/Program (during runtime).
          Let's say I run a trasaction ME22N and Press Save button. The transaction saves the data. Now I would like to know what are all the FunctionModules the transaction invoked during Save action. I went through tracing ST01, could not find it as helpful.
    Thanks in advance.

    Read the SAP help for details, but briefly.
    Tx Se30.
    Create a new variant.  Check "Within and Below", "RFC, Update", "Particular Units" in tab "Program Parts".  Choose "none" aggregation in tab "Duration/type".
    Save the variant.  With that variant selected enter the tx you want to trace - e.g. ME22N, and click on Execute.
    Get to the point in the tx just before you press Save.  Choose menu system->utilities->runtime analysis->switch on.
    Press save.
    When the system comes back to you, choose menu system->utilities->runtime analysis->switch off, and leave the transaction.
    In the screen section "Performance Data File", click on "Evaluate".  Go to menu Goto->Hit List->Standard (or press F5)
    All the function modules hit (and lots of other information) will be displayed.

    when you are in the system do a ls -l for /proc if there isn't one then:
    #mkdir /proc
    #mount /proc
    also check is /proc is in your /etc/vfstab file.
    This solved my problem.
    Good Luck

  • Chkconfig not working on OEL 5.7 (services are not stopped during reboot)

    Hi all,
    I am trying to use chkconfig to configure a "service" on Oracle Linux 5.7 .
    I noticed that the script is called during system boot with the "start" option, but it is not called during system shutdown !
    The script is:
    [root@srv-db5 ~]# cat /etc/init.d/oradb
    #!/bin/bash
    # chkconfig: 35 99 10
    # description: Starts and stops Oracle processes
    # Set ORA_HOME to be equivalent to the $ORACLE_HOME
    # from which you wish to execute dbstart and dbshut;
    # Set ORA_OWNER to the user id of the owner of the
    # Oracle database in ORA_HOME.
    ORA_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1
    ORA_OWNER=oracle
    case "$1" in
    'start')
    /bin/echo "" >> /tmp/oradb.log 2>&1
    /bin/echo "$0 start - `/bin/date` " >> /tmp/oradb.log 2>&1
    touch /var/lock/subsys/dbora
    'stop')
    /bin/echo "$0 stop - `/bin/date` " >> /tmp/oradb.log 2>&1
    /bin/echo "" >> /tmp/oradb.log 2>&1
    rm -f /var/lock/subsys/dbora
    esac
    # End of script oradb
    chkconfig can read it:
    [root@srv-db5 ~]# chkconfig --add oradb
    [root@srv-db5 ~]# chkconfig --list oradb
    oradb 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:off 5:on 6:off
    [root@srv-db5 ~]#
    and chkconfig creates all the expected symlinks :
    [root@srv-db5 ~]# find /etc/ -type l -iname "*oradb*" -exec ls -l \{} \; | sort
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Dec 6 11:51 /etc/rc.d/rc0.d/K10oradb -> ../init.d/oradb
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Dec 6 11:51 /etc/rc.d/rc1.d/K10oradb -> ../init.d/oradb
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Dec 6 11:51 /etc/rc.d/rc2.d/K10oradb -> ../init.d/oradb
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Dec 6 11:51 /etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S99oradb -> ../init.d/oradb
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Dec 6 11:51 /etc/rc.d/rc4.d/K10oradb -> ../init.d/oradb
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Dec 6 11:51 /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S99oradb -> ../init.d/oradb
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 Dec 6 11:51 /etc/rc.d/rc6.d/K10oradb -> ../init.d/oradb
    if Itry to manually issue "service oradb start | stop " everything works fine:
    [root@srv-db5 ~]# > /tmp/oradb.log
    [root@srv-db5 ~]# service oradb start
    [root@srv-db5 ~]# cat /tmp/oradb.log
    /etc/init.d/oradb start - Tue Dec 6 12:01:14 CET 2011
    [root@srv-db5 ~]# service oradb stop
    [root@srv-db5 ~]# cat /tmp/oradb.log
    /etc/init.d/oradb start - Tue Dec 6 12:01:14 CET 2011
    /etc/init.d/oradb stop - Tue Dec 6 12:01:23 CET 2011
    but if I do a reboot, I see that my script has not been called during system shutdown :
    [root@srv-db5 ~]#
    [root@srv-db5 ~]# cat /tmp/oradb.log
    /etc/init.d/oradb start - Tue Dec 6 12:01:14 CET 2011
    /etc/init.d/oradb stop - Tue Dec 6 12:01:23 CET 2011
    /etc/rc5.d/S99oradb start - Tue Dec 6 12:03:50 CET 2011
    [root@srv-db5 ~]#

    Perhaps the problem isn't your dbora script, but some other stop script that stops the shutdown execution, or e.g. removing the dbora file inside the /var/lock/subsys directory, and then when K10dbora is involved, it believes dbora is not running and hence does not need to be shut down.
    See if you have anything in /etc/rc0.d that might conflict with the K10dbora script.
    What happens if you change:
    # chkconfig: 35 99 10
    to
    # chkconfig: 35 99 01
    and reconfigure, so that the dbora script is called before K02, etc.?

  • HT201376 Nothing happens when pressing Command+R during reboot

    I am trying to do a factory reset on my computer, and I have tried at least 30 times to restart and hold down the Command+R Keys and absolutely nothing happens.  I have tried during different intervals during the reboot, and have tried doing it after a shut down and startup.  Nothing happens at all. I have done it at least 15 times when the white screen with the apple pops up.  I have waited for the "wait" symbol to try it.  What am I missing?! Why won't this work? I cannot get to the point where I can erase everything.  When I go in manually through the disk utility, it will not let me erase this way.  Help!

    do I need that DVD? or can I upgrade to the newest version, would I then be able use the command R option for bringing up the disk utility partition?
    What exactly are you trying to do?
    OS X Lion and above includes the addition of a Recovery partition (not a "disk utility partition"). If you had OS X Lion or above, then Command-R would boot the Mac to the Recovery partition. From that partition, you could then run the Disk Utility application.
    With 10.6.8, you can boot from the DVD (Hold down the C key while restarting), once done, you could also run the Disk Utility application.
    Note: There is no way that we can tell whether you can upgrade from 10.6.8, since you haven't provided any specific information about your Mac other than it is a MacBook.

  • CatC6K in VSS mode / interface modules provisionning after reboot

    Hello,
    I am using 2 Cat 6509 in VSS mode. Everything is OK. My problem is the following : it takes interface modules approximately 15 min to be detected and brought up after rebooting of one physical switch. Is this normal ? I found nothing in the documentation related to this point.
    Is there any tuning available to reduce this time ?
    Thank you for your help, kind regards,

    Assume the installation disk is an OS X disk? If it's the original one that came with the system (grey-colored disk versus black retail disk) have you tried to hold the alt key down when you boot? This would allow you to choose the Apple hardware test. If you can do this, choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow to the right, and when prompted choose the extended test. Does that give you any errors or messages about a hardware problem?
    Are you able to hold the C key down when you reboot, to boot off the installation disk?

  • Bold 9900 freezing during reboot

    Hello,
    I have recently being experiencing problems with a very short battery life on my blackberry bold 9900 which was causing my blackberry to constantly turn itself off and reboot itself, this was not a problem as the blackberry would always reboot normally and work again. I ordered a replacement battery which I hoped would fix this problem however before the battery was delivered I experienced a new problem, the blackberry now does not reboot. When i turn the phone on it goes to the standard black Blackberry boot screen with the progress loading bar at the bottom, the loading bar reaches to about 3 quarters of the way and then freezes on this screen at 3 quarters progress, the phone will not turn off and does not try to reboot itself. This happens with both the old and new battery.
    I have read the other forum messages and tried using the methods used for other similar problems such as connecting to a laptop and trying a software reload, trying a clean reload etc, but none of these solutions has worked. The blackberry still freezes at the same point during the reboot process making it impossible to complete the reload processes via connection to my desktop software.
    Do you have any suggestions on how this can be fixed or is this beyond repair?
    Many thanks
