Moire pattern on screen

Ther is a moire pattern on my screen. Why?

Hello
simple way to try diagnose a visual problem is to take a snapshoot of part of screen you think is defective
- if your visual problem not appear on snapshoot file could be a screen problem
- if your visual problem can be see on snapshoot file could be a vram / mother board / graphic card problem
to take a snapshoot use cmd-shift-3 or cmd-shift-4 , that create file on desktop
second way is to plug an external display see if problem is same or not

Why has my monitor suddenly begun to have a moiré pattern all over – it is even showing up on my icons on the dock? It appears to be very thin bright green vertical lines. I have a 2007 iMac which is running 10.6.8. What does this mean? I've attached some screen shots below.
Also experiencing some funky issues with my wireless keyboard. With new batteries, it will just stop functioning. Certain keys intermittently won't work. Also the fans go on as soon as I turn the computer on - some times they stay on and sometimes they don't. Ever since upgrading the operating system - I've been having many issues with this iMac. Not happy. Any answers out there?

Thanks for your reply LexSchellings, There is no disc in the drive and I went through the suggestions you put forward on the phone with Apple support without any luck. I can put a disc in but it pops straight back out again without registering on finder.
The idea of using an external drive was to enable me to avoid the cost and loss of productivity whilst machine in repair... if I have to take it in to get the old drive removed than I might as well have a new internal drive put in, although I do worry about the reliability of these apple drives given my experience with this one coupled with my limited online research ... on line forums seem to be full of people with the same problem (although perhaps searching such forums is bound to make it seem a common problem as users with perfectly working machines are less likely to post (?)) Your reply suggests that no external drive will work whilst the existing drive is in place.
As a postscript: I do realise that this is a user forum ...my secondary question was asking if anyone knows how to put forward a case/complaint to Apple... I can't find a link on the support page that would enable me to do so and I was wondering if anyone on this user forum had any ideas/experience..

  • Moire pattern

    Hi all:
My slot loading iMac G3 400 has developed moire pattern on right side of screen. This developed after all of the below had taken place.
Original Problem: Screen very dark; some spontaneous shut downs.
Connected a Viewsonic 17' to VGA port. Calibrated Viewsonic darker [it's a much brighter monitor]. This made iMac display extremely dark [not a biggie since I was using the external VGA]. Worked fine for a couple of days until the power was turned off in my building for 8 hours [iMac not on when power was turned off]. When power came back on, iMac would not boot -- start button would flicker, then switch off. I thought: Hmm ... maybe the battery is dead ....
Installed new battery. Wouldn't boot, but sometimes got startup sound and gray/blue, pre-boot screen, but no happy mac. Attempted to boot several ways[disconnected VGA; printer; DSL modem; Belkin powered USB hub; reset button; zapped PRAM; Command + Control down, but no luck & no longer got startup sound. Shut it down for a couple of hours, then booted successfully, but iMac screen still seemed a bit dark. Recalibrated and improved. Reconnected Belkin hub, DSL modem, but not the VGA monitor or printer[but would like to].
Would appreciate any help, specifically re. moire pattern, but general info on above also welcome.
    thanks.

    Reshoot with a different tie?
Depending on how much movement there is in the frame and etc there are several things you might do.
If it's the typical medium/close-up corp shot, you might just try duplicating the video to the second layer garbage-matting in to the tie and blurring it.
Or export representative frames to photoshop and from those frames build a tie overlay that you've blurred in photoshop.
Any way you do it, it'll be messy.

  • New white macbook, moire pattern in upper left

we bought this from the store on Friday so it's brand new. in the upper left of the screen, there is a subtle moire pattern that fades as you go right and down on the screen. it's faint, but it drives me crazy when i use it - but my wife (it's her computer) doesn't notice/mind it.
is this a bad display or a bad driver? i've never seen anything like this or heard of it happening. i can't imagine that it's being dithered like this. it's running 10.5.7 w/ all of the available updates installed.

Without seeing it, it's hard to say. But, as you've just purchased it, I would suggest that you immediately bring it back to have it looked at. Where ever you purchased it from, they should have floor models that you can look at to make a comparison. It's best to bring it back right away as that makes it obvious that the problem was there out of the box and you'll be more likely to get a replacement vs. a repair if there is a problem.

  • New MBP 17-inch anti-glare display creates a moire pattern when scrolling

This is kind of hard to explain: The color on the display is fine when a page is stationary, but when I scroll vertically, the blues (especially light blues) and reds get a strange tint to them and create an effect that's hard on the eyes. The graphics don't break up or anything but the color vibrates. It's very uncomfortable to watch. I've owned and used many Powerbooks and Macbooks over the years and this is the first one that's had this problem. It's like a moire pattern, or something. Very odd.
Is anyone else noticing this on the anti-glare display? I'd like to know before I go ahead and return this MBP.
    Thanks

Sure. No two sets of circumstances are exactly the same, so no one else will have experienced exactly what you've experienced, including the prior replacement of an earlier MBP model for repeated display problems that you haven't specified. AppleCare will weigh all the circumstances of your current issue on their own merits and make a decision about what to do without reference to other people's problems. No one here knows what that decision will be, whether you believe me or not. Call AppleCare.

  • Intermittent problems with strange patterns on screen

My new (refurbed) 17in Intel Imac starts up periodically with a strange pattern running at 45 degrees across the entire screen (little multicolor boxes or rectangles) then the screen goes to all blue and freezes with no further activity. I have run the hardware test, reset pram and disk utility with no solutions. It will still boot up perfectly about every 3rd attempt. I'm running 10.4.10. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

To make sure that this is not software related, set it back to factory settings, without using a backup afterwards, described in this article:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
If the screen has still this pattern, the issue is hardware related and the phone needs to be serviced. In that case it might be enough to let Apple replace the screen.

  • Is my i7 MBP GPU malfunctioning?  Strange pattern on screen?

Happens in the morning after the computer has been sleeping all night.
    Diamond shape artifacting I guess?
Computer runs for about 3 minutes, then screen gets a strange pattern across it, then locks up.
Looks like this after the hard boot.

After I leave it on for a bit and let it warm up reset the power then it boots like this.
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/428893/Mbp/Movie%20Dec%2002%2C%209%2013%2043%20AM.mov
After it gets to the desktop things are really crashy and don't load properly, so a 3rd boot is needed.
After 3 reboots the problem goes away, so what ever it is I assume needs to warm up before it works right.
Its obviously hardware related, I suspect my logic board / GPU need to be replaced?
All this happens as soon as I move to Mexico where there are no Mac service places around!
Anyone know if mac will ship replacement parts for user serviceable components?

Unfortunately, this does have the look of a hardware problem, probably having to do with a graphics chip. Have you tried running the extended version of the Apple Hardware test? You might get an error code which would indicate where the problem is.
There is a way to contact Apple in Mexico--you might want to do that and see what options they can offer you:

    Good luck!

  • OS 10.6.8 Upgrade causing wave pattern across screen

Just installed OS 10.6.8 upgrade on my MB Pro 15".  On restart the display showed a wavy pattern of light and dark areas across the bottom of the screen.  Re-booted again, and same pattern showed up.  Rebooted a second time, but cleared the PRAM at the same time.  On completion of reboot, screen turned black and keyboard lights came on.  Computer completely locked up.  Conducted a hard reboot holding the off/on key down - and computer rebooted clean, with no further problems of a wavy screen.

[this is me replying to my own post]
Just spoke to a very helpful person in Apple Support and am posting what I learned in case it helps others. The person I spoke to encouraged me to go to the Apple Genius Bar of a retail store in order to have the computer tested. Apparently there is a "known video issue" with some MacBook Pros that the OS 10.6.8 upgrade reveals. That is, the problem has been there all along but something about this upgrade makes it apparent. I'm scheduled for a Genius appointment later today and will post anything useful I learn.

  • Text descenders along with moire patterns

    Photoshop CS2
Microsoft came by with a Vista auto update 10/28 and screwed things up (again). Now the bottoms of all the text on Photoshop CS2@ "file info" is gone. Also, my screen has moire "ripples" (non-moving) on many of the photo displays. The text problem is popping up only in Photoshop but the moire is in most the photo displays no matter what software. I could use system restore to get back to normal but I really would like to have the Vista updates (the ones that work).
    Garry DeLong

Ah me. This may be one of those things that turn out not to be worth the effort. I've disabled all except the System>Library>Fonts fonts :
    Courier.dfont
    Geneva.dfont
    Keyboard.dfont
    LastResort.dfont
    LucidaGrande.dfont
    Monaco.dfont
Now the problem is even worse. The pages I use to test "Flash font screwiness" are
    1. http://www3.iath.virginia.edu/waters/timeline/index.html (just because it shows two problems:
1a. The main text of the timeline and Category areas
1b. The cutoff heading in the item box that appears when a map item is clicked)
    2. http://maps.google.com/ Streetview of anyplace
2a. There is supposed to be text showing in Streetview, and I see only little blank boxes.
I've just been to both pages on my dear wife's old Macbook and they work fine. Beautifully, even. And both Firefox and Safari show the broken text on my G5. So you're right, I have some kind of buggy font business going on. Blah. I suppose I need to reload my System fonts, to begin with. I don't even remember where to get clean copies. Maybe my original old Install discs?
I'd really hate to have to attempt to rebuild this System! The Install on the discs is 10.3.5, and I can't say whatall has been added in the way of plugins and such.
Thank you, DB, for giving me direction. I wonder, though, if this is a font problem per se? NONE of the fonts I'm trying render these Flash pages correctly *on my machine.* But, and this could be a big caveat, I don't see problems with fonts in other applications. All my Adobe Creative Suite applications seem fine. PDFs display fine. The Finder is fine. Text renders perfectly well on web pages such as this one. It's only on Flash enabled web pages I have this problem.
I guess it's possible some System font is playing havoc with Flash, but I don't really see how, when they don't seem to create any other problems. Or at least, any problems I've noticed. Odd.
Has anyone seen my Flash problem before?

  • Won't start up and has pattern on screen

Mac Pro running 10.6.8 won't start up and stalls out with just a funky pattern on a white screen. I have been able to do a Safe Boot and have run permissions tests/fixes but it still won't restart properly afterwards...  arrggggh

Clone it to another drive, in part to NOT use the old system for now, and weed out any and all 3rd party background drivers extensions and processes. Or do a clean install, install as much as possible from original master copies/installers.
And move all the data and media to another drive. All but your home folder library so your boot drive is only the system and apps and that small 3GB user data.

  • Bizarre pattern on screen

I have a white 13 inch MacBook that recently developed a strange pattern on the display. The pattern includes approximately 1/4 of the screen having an irregular shaped white blob with some straight solid colored lines coming from it in a random pattern. The pattern does not appear in the TIFF image if I do a screen capture using Grab. I have noticed that the screen also changes randomly depending on the angle of the rear hinge. Am I safe in assuming that all of these problems are due to a defect in the LCD screen? I will get a replacement LCD if that is the case.

    Hi.
The problem you speak of sounds similar to my problems, just in an earlier stage.
I've made a thread about my problems, which have helped somebody else with the same problem too:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10596883#10596883
The problem is either the Screen (expensive) or the LVDS cable. Both can be replaced by you, if you follow youtube videos, and the parts can you get cheap on eBay. I choose to get it repaired by a Private Apple mechanic, and gave almost 1/3 of the Macbook's value for it (2000dkr)
    Hope it helps.

  • Even vertical stripy pattern on screen

    HELP!
I'm sorry if this is an 'old' problem for some of you but it's just happened to me so...
I'm getting a rather unusual vertical stripy pattern on my screen. The stripes are about 1 cm wide and evenly spaced. They're also on every window I have open. Shutting down or Restarts don't make any difference - they stripes are permanent.
Whimper...I'm also a poor student and really need to find a cheap way to fix this problem!
    HELP!

Thank you very much macuser08, I certainly do! So I hope you understand this code!

  • Checkerboard pattern on screen instead of move

I want to watch a movie I have watched many times before.  This time it works fine on the screen but when I turn on Air Play the screen turns to a checkerboard pattern though the music audio runs.  Never had this happen before.
    Ideas?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
The Firefox cache temporarily stores images, scripts, and other parts of websites while you are browsing. <br>
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies, do the following:

    #Tap '''Settings'''.
#After that, you will be taken to the settings screen. In the settings screen, look under the section '''''Privacy & Security''''' and select '''Clear private data'''.
#You will then be taken to a list of what can be cleared. Select the following 2 for deletion:

  • Using pattern on screen

    Hi experts,
How can I create a pattern on a screen. For example I created a SCREEN 100. On the screen I have an input field. I want allow to write in the input field if it is according to a specific pattern.

    Hi,
First you would have to define the Particular Pattern wich you want to confirm with, say for example
    data g_pattern type string 'CF+H'.
In screen 100 in PAI---validate the input field
    PROCESS AFTER INPUT.
    * To validate input
      FIELD g_input MODULE check_input.
    MODULE check_input INPUT.
         IF  g_input CP g_pattern.
    *     code
        else.
    *    Raise message to input as per the patter
        endif.
    ENDMODULE.
so if user input 'ABC123FGH' IT will be true.

  • What settings to avoid "moire" patterns on TV

I use QT 7 pro and liveslideshow to generate a QT movie with music which I then burn to DVD as video using Toast Titanium.Os =10.3.9
When I watch the DVD on my TV (PAL) some images show a moire or interference type pattern. I think it is fine detail sets it off. The images I use are from Photoshop.
I know TV 's have different shaped pixels to CRT computer monitors. Is this what I need to change?
Is there a setting in Quicktime I should use to re export the movie for viewing on a TV?
    Many Thanks.
