Mom's iPod nano won't sync with my itunes?

I've got my ipod and iphone syncing to my computer's itunes fine, but when I plug my mom's ipod nano (5th or 6th gen) into my computer it won't sync my music onto it. No error message, just every time I unplug it there is no new music. She's got some music that came on the ipod already so I'm not sure if I need to delete that or what to make it sync with my itunes. Itunes recognizes it and I can see what's on it, it just won't sync. Thanks!

Hi Charlie,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your iPod nano isn't actually completing its sync, I would put it through this troubleshooting assistant:
iPod nano (3rd generation) Troubleshooting

Try syncing again after each suggested step.

  • Ipod Nano won't sync to my itunes:(. Help!

For some reason my ipod nano won't sync with itunes.
However my ibook does reconize it when I use my usb cord.
Do I need to purchase a firewire for it to sync with itune?.
    HELP:)

If you've read the Technical Specification you will find that the nano can only use Firewire for charging, not for syncing:
    http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
"Charging via USB or FireWire to computer system or power adapter (sold separately)"
So you can rule that out.
Have you tried the 5 R's?

  • My new ipod nano won't sync with my new itunes?

I have purchased a new ipod nano and for some reason it won't sync with my itunes.  Please help

Make sure the Enable disk use option is NOT ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab in iTunes. If you do have to remove this tick mark, be sure to hit the Apply button in the lower left hand corner of the window in iTunes to update the changes to your device. Then try restoring it again.

  • IPod Nano won't sync with iTunes on new laptop

When I first got my new laptop about a month ago I did the 'homesharing' technique to be able to use my iTunes on it, it worked successfully up until I tried to purchase new music from the iTunes Store & upload music into my Library from my laptop.. It just wouldn't sync onto my Nano! Every time I clicked the Sync tab nothing would happen even though the music had all been purchased/uploaded perfectly fine. I had ofcourse made sure my iTunes was 'activated' onto my new laptop, etc etc & when I went onto my old laptop to try it on there all the music DID sync onto my Nano.
Since then I've re-installed iTunes several times even copied my full iTunes folder onto an external USB stick & transferred it that way & still my Nano will not sync with my iTunes! The new iTunes isn't helping much either as I find it quite confusing to work out as it's totally different. But yeah even with the new iTunes upgrade my Nano still won't sync.
I'm at a loss, I've no idea what the problem is! Can anyone help?

  • 2G ipod nano won't sync with windows XP

I've tried all the R's, updating USB drivers, ipod bat, every solution I've found on the pages and still won't sync to my laptop. It worked until June 13, when I charged it, and then the next time it wouldn't sync. It will restore, and I could sync it to my son's desktop computer. Every other USB device I have works. Help Please!!

    Hi therowan,
Are you getting any error messages when you try syncing your iPod with your computer? If so, what does it say?
If you aren't getting any sort of error, then could you describe what exactly happens when your iPod is connected to your computer? Without info about your problem like that, I really can't help you in a specific way.
One thing that came to mind (although it might not be the issue here), is that this might be a case of drive letter confusion on your computer. Try assigning your iPod a different drive letter, following the instructions from here:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive

  • 3G IPod nano won't sync with Address Book and iCal

I connected my new 3G iPod nano (4GB) to USB2.0 port of aluminum keyboard on new 20" aluminum iMac. MP3 song files (total 623) transferred without problem, but whenever I tried to enable syncing of Address Book and iCal under Contacts tab in iTunes 7.4.1 window, error message popped up stated that there are no contacts in Address Book when there are actually 57 contacts already in Address Book. Creating new contacts in Address Book and recreating address book and iTunes library files in user's library folder did not help at all. The syncing of Address Book only work under new user account in Mac OS 10.4.10 (with all Apple updates applied). May I know what have gone wrong with my account ?
I have wasted one hour with call routed to hopeless Apple support center in India. They only want you to keep reseting everything until it work so that they can put the blame on you.

I have had same problem since I got my nano 2 months ago. At least with latest firmware update, when you DO see Contacts they contain their complete Notes! I have tried using iTunes sync to sync my full AddressBook with 900 entries, but this routinely failed to load any more than 600 entries with message saying so. Calendar has been even more problematic until I created a sub-view of my full calendar with just the prior 1 month and future 2 months event entries; then at least I could see the Calendar - but NEVER after immediately a sync, only after i reset the Nano. And finally I have used iPDA (ZappTek) to transfer News, RSS feeds, Weather updates for cities, & selected Documents and these too transfer completely (as inspection of the iPod as Disk shows), but needs a full reset to get them to show. Even then when you first highlight the "Notes" menu option you see it display "No Notes" but then when you click/select it, it starts "Loading them with a counter: sometimes the count is complete, sometimes it "aborts" and then you can only see some of the notes you loaded. I view this as a bug. I believe that the Nano is indexing these entries and either completes it or aborts, for an unknown "bug" reason. The ZappTek developer suggested there is a definite RAM (not storage) limitation in the Nano which prevents the Nano from handling very large sets of entries, but I should think a software update might be able to fix this by not trying to load everything at once.
    Hope this helps.

  • New ipod nano how to sync with previous itunes

My old ipod nano was recently broken and I just got a new one. I am not good with computers and have no idea how to get my computer and itunes to recognize the new ipod.
    Please help!!!!!!!

Hold down the 'option+' keys when plugging in the iPT. Keep the keys engaged until the iPT shows up in the iTunes Devices list. This will prevent iTunes from updating the iPT. Then you can select the option from the Summary window to 'manually manage music and video'. See if that works.

  • Ipod nano won't sync with windows after being used with a mac

how can i sync my ipod with my new windows based laptop after using an old mac for years? it says it will erase my library if i sync.

Connecting to a new computer will always erase your device first. But you can copy your music bought in iTunes before, if you disable autosync in iTunes/Edit/Preferences/Devices, right click on your iPod in the device list and choosing "transfer purchases".
After your songs are copied, let iTunes set it up again and sync the music back again.
