Monaco font -- unexpected appearance changes?

Monaco font appearance changes. I don't know why... I don't know when... and I don't know what to do to prevent it from changing.
I noticed it working with Terminal and Xcode.
Here are screenshots: http://apm.cifrid.net/monaco/ (notice 'x difference).
It looks just fine after I logout and login again... until next time.
Any help appreciated.
A.
  Mac OS X (10.4.5)

BUMP !!
I am also having trouble with the Monaco font.
I use Moncao 9pt Regular in many applications.
It displays correctly in "Font Book" and "Eudora", but does NOT view correctly in "Text Edit"
I am on a new Mac where I did NOT copy from a prior Mac.
Any thoughts ??

  • Activated fonts not appearing in Illustrator?

    I'm running Illustrator CS on a Dual PPC G5 running OS 10.3.9. I have an OpenType font active (using Linotype FontExplorer to manage fonts) and can use the font in all programs except the Adobe ones (Illustrator and Photoshop). Why would the font not appear there? I need it for a logo that I have to manipulate into a vector graphic, but I can't do anything if it won't appear in the type menu. Any ideas as to what's going on and how I can fix this?

    Christine,
    Did you by any chance create the fonts yourself? OpenType fonts shouldn't cause any more trouble than Type 1 if they are correctly made and named.
    If their names show up incorrectly or if they don't show up at all, it's probably because someone did something wrong in Font Info when he was making the font. If you make use of the Build Names thingummy in FontLab Studio it can save you a lot of this kind of trouble. I have done quite a bit of this kind of work - adding Icelandic characters to fonts and that sort of thing - and find that it's absolutely essential to do things right if you want to avoid problems in FontExplorer.
    It can sometimes happen too that fonts are made specifically for Windows, in which case they may need to be edited and re-saved for Mac before you can use them so that they work perfectly. You can often get a Windows font to work well on a Mac but you should keep your eyes open for glitches all the same.
    And another thing, you may occasionally need to restart Illy when you've made changes to fonts in FontExplorer. This doesn't happen often these days but still crops up occasionally all the same.

    I open iWeb but the main window doesn't open/appear on screen. The little windows like the inspector and font windows appear. Can anyone help?

    Try the following:
    1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
    3 - launch iWeb and try again.
    NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

    Below taken directly from the v1.6x API java.awt.Font class doco:he Java Platform distinguishes between two kinds of fonts: physical fonts and
    logical fonts.
    Physical fonts are the actual font libraries containing glyph data and tables to
    map from character sequences to glyph sequences, using a font technology
    such as TrueType or PostScript Type 1. All implementations of the Java
    Platform must support TrueType fonts; support for other font technologies is
    implementation dependent. Physical fonts may use names such as Helvetica,
    Palatino, HonMincho, or any number of other font names. Typically, each
    physical font supports only a limited set of writing systems, for example, only
    Latin characters or only Japanese and Basic Latin. The set of available
    physical fonts varies between configurations. Applications that require specific
    fonts can bundle them and instantiate them using the createFont method.
    Logical fonts are the five font families defined by the Java platform which must
    be supported by any Java runtime environment: Serif, SansSerif, Monospaced,
    Dialog, and DialogInput. These logical fonts are not actual font libraries.
    Instead, the logical font names are mapped to physical fonts by the Java
    runtime environment. The mapping is implementation and usually locale
    dependent, so the look and the metrics provided by them vary. Typically, each
    logical font name maps to several physical fonts in order to cover a large range
    of characters.
    Peered AWT components, such as Label and TextField, can only use logical
    fonts.
    For a discussion of the relative advantages and disadvantages of using
    physical or logical fonts, see the Internationalization FAQ document.

    I just "upgraded" my iPhone with the new software. As a low vision person, your phone was always previously helpful. I now discover that I cannot use the phone easily. The font has been changed to a very narrow typeface and the greyscale has been altered to reduce contrast. The background is now grey as well rather than white. The accessibility options permit only three choices. First, increase type size. With the the low greyscale, thin typeface, increasing type size makes it HARDER to read. There is no option for contrast enhancement. Third, the background switch options suffers from the same deficit as the white background. The third choice is to enhance brightness but without the option to change contrast, this is useless. Am I missing something? Can this be fixed? How? When? Are you planning a similar negative "update"/change to other devices?

    I am having the same problem. I have gone through every setting, set the bold font, contrast, larger font....everything I could find in any post to try and help - and between the new color scheme that makes it virtually impossible to use the pictures of my grandchildren as background (the picture colors now become the theme colors - which now match the colors of many of the "flat" icons...) I am finding the phone very difficult to use--espeically things like the calendar which has now become very hard to "see" and use. If I can't revert this thing to iOS6, I may have to get a different phone.

  • Mappings in snapshots always appear changed

    When I compare snapshots with a project in the Design Repository the mappings properties always appear changed in the comparison even if nothing was changed.
    For example, I created a simple project with one source table and a target table and mapping. It is just a straight mapping from source to target.
    I am able to deploy the objects and execute the mapping without any problems. However, when a create a snapshot of the project and then compare the snapshot with the project, the properties of the operators (in this case the source and target tables) within the mappings always appear as a changed object.
    It seems that the snapshot is incomplete.
    Am I doing something wrong when I create the mapping or snapshot? How can I make the snapshot identical to the mappings in the repository?
    Thanks.

    Brian,
    Good catch. Reproduced it in the current production release and filed bug 3187011 accordingly. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a workaround...
    Thanks,
    Mark.

  • Fonts not appearing in CS3 program font lists

    Certain postscript fonts (ZapfDingbats and Rubino Sans) are correctly installed in Windows 7 and available to Microsoft programs (Word and Excel) but not to Adobe programs. That is, they do not appear in any of the CS3 Design Standard applications (PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator) font lists when the application is open. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both the fonts and CS3 to no avail. I have added shortcuts to the Common Files/Adobe/Fonts directory to no avail. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    I assume by PostScript fonts you really mean Type 1 fonts. (TrueType and OpenType fonts are every bit as much "PostScript fonts" as Type 1 fonts are!)
    There is a known problem with the CS3 applications with all Type 1 fonts under all Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit versions when such fonts are installed in the Windows System Font directory. The problem is fixed in CS4.
    The workaround is to copy all the Type 1 font files (both the .PFB and the .PFM files - each Type 1 font has one .PFB and one .PFM file) to the Creative Suite's private font directory. Depending upon the CS version, that may be in
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
                   or
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts
    Restart the Creative Suite programs you are using and the fonts should appear.
    You may also copy said fonts into the private font directories of the individual applications (typically a directory path ending with the node name Fonts.

  • Font settings keep changing when I restart Mail

    I've noticed over the past few days that whenever I restart Mail, my font settings keep changing, so I have to keep going back in and adjusting them.
    Anyone else having this problem, or know how to fix it?
    I did a search in this forum, but didn't see anything about this.
    Thanks!

    I should clarify that this happens after I restart my computer, then open Mail. If I close Mail, then reopen it, without restarting, then this does not happen.

  • JTextArea font won't change

    I know this problem has been answered in similar form previously., but my version is a little different. I have a JList of fonts. When a font is selected on the list, changes should be applied to a JTextArea. I have my <JTextArea>.setFont(Font f) command in the valueChanged method of my class. Unexpected namespace change after mapping change
    Posted: Apr 18, 2006 5:17 AM    Reply
    Hi all
    We developped a mapping about one year ago on XI SP9.
    The source of the message was an Idoc and the target an XML sample (and not a xsd!) of what our customer expected.
    Everything was working fine at that point.
    Here is an extract of the output we had:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <env:Envelope xmlns:env="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/ http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
    <env:Header xmlns:p="http://localhost/webs/msgDetails.xsd">
    <p:msgDetails xmlns:p="http://localhost/webs/msgDetails.xsd">
    <p:sender>
    <p:senderId>XXX</p:senderId>
    <p:senderName>AUSTRALIA/NEW ZEALAND</p:senderName>
    </p:sender>
    We are now running SP14 and we had to change the mapping. Since we changed it the namespaces defined in the sample XML we use as a target structure are not used anymore, instead they are replaced by ns0, ns1...
    Now the output looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <ns0:Envelope xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:ns0="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:ns1="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" ns1:schemaLocation="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/ http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
    <ns0:Header>
    <ns2:msgDetails xmlns:p="http://localhost/webs/msgDetails.xsd" xmlns:ns2="http://localhost/webs/msgDetails.xsd">
    <ns2:sender>
    <ns2:senderId>21873</ns2:senderId>
    <ns2:senderName>XXX</ns2:senderName>
    </ns2:sender>
    Any idea what has happened here?
    Thanks in advance
    Gregory

    Hi Gregory,
    after a short view I would say that the two structures you have posted are logically equivalent.
    I try to make it clear for the sender-element.
    In the first example you have a tag <p:sender>. Obviously the namespace prefix 'p' is used here. In order to find out the qualified name of the element represented by that tag you have to find the namespace declaration for prefix p. As the tag itself does not contain such a declaration you have to go to the parent-tag. Indeed, here you find a declaration for p which says that p is just an alias for 'http://localhost/webs/msgDetails.xsd'. Hence the qualified name for the element is: 'sender' in namespace 'http://localhost/webs/msgDetails.xsd'.
    Now let us look at the corresponding tag <ns2:sender> in the second document. In oder to identify the qualified name of the element you have to find out, which namespace is bound to the namespace prefix ns2 which has been used here. Again you cannot find this in the tag itself but in its parent. Here you find that ns2 is bound to 'http://localhost/webs/msgDetails.xsd'. (Indeed, here you see that prefix p is also bound to that namespace. This seems to be superfluous to me, as the prefix is never used.)
    Consequently, the qualified name of that element is: 'sender' in namespace 'http://localhost/webs/msgDetails.xsd'.
    Thus, both tags represent elements with the same qualified name. For more details look at http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml-names/.
    Greetings Stephan

  • (CC 2014) ScriptUI font do not change?

    I have tried to change my ScriptUI font, but nothing changed. I have also tested out with Peter Kahrel's guide where he is showing how to use fonts in ScriptUI, but none affect

    var w = new Window ("dialog");

    button2 = w.add ("button", undefined, "Bigger");
    button2.graphics.font = "dialog:18";

    I'm trying to replace a missing font and apparently it's a graphic.  It's not letting me replace with another font and click change.  I can't export until it's fixed and I need to fix / bypass as soon as possible.
