Moniter won't wake up & when I reboot... says OS unexpedidly quit?

For the past 2 mornings... when I go to move my mouse, I hear the computer wake up, but monitor is still black. Nothing can wake it up, no keys nothing. I have to reboot from the power button. When I reboot, a screen pops on my desktop saying "The computer was restarted after mac os x quit unexpectedly, click report to see more details."
Anyone know what is going on... starting to scare me now that it has happened 2 days in a row. I did copy the report if anyone knows how to read the comp. lingo.
Thanks...
Jayme

I think I have narrowed the problem down to a USB issue (USB connection between the hub on the ACD (Apple Cinema Display) and the PB.
When I unplug the USB connector from the port, the login in window miraculously appears. Now, I need to track down the REASON for this.
Thanks for your help.

  • MacbookPro won't wake from sleep and reboots

Since installing Yosemite this morning, my MacbookPro won't wake from sleep, it reboots. I have also had one instance of a black screen forcing a hard reset. On rebooting I get a popup about a graphics error, my machine is a 2013 model so I wouldn't have expected any compatibility issues and it was rock solid until I upgraded the OS, any thoughts?

And this is the panic report I get every time:

  • Won't wake up even after rebooting

i have a mocbook pro 2.5GHz core 2 duo run on OS 10.5.8
i put it to sleep by closing the lid and it won't wake up
    even i rebooted it.
can hear DVD drive and hard drive running, black screen, no power on USB drives, caps lock light never light up.
put os reinstall disk to the optical drive, disk is spinning but nothing happen.
    any idea?

Part of this time may involve attempting to read a damaged sleep image file, bewlatbrutha.
You should note, too that the batteries in these computers have a built in microprocessor of their own to try to prevent them from being damaged by discharging too deeply. If you discharge to the point where even the battery's own processor has to shut down you may never be able to resurrect your battery without outside help (and sometimes not even then). Almost all Lithium Polymer and Lithium Ion batteries (regardless of what they are fitted to) have this sort of protection. The battery has to have a certain minimum charge at all time to keep its own processor running.
Even without reaching this point it is not good for Lithium batteries to be regularly discharged to the point where the computer has to sleep or shut down. You risk severely shortened battery life if you do this regularly.
    Cheers

  • My iMac won't wake up when it's been asleep for awhile

Each morning now, (since the last update of ML) my iMac won't wake up from sleep when I try from either
my bluetooth keyboard or mouse. Seems like it would be a bluetooth connection issue but how do
I make sure it will not interfer with waking up my computer.
I tried pushing the on/off button briefly to get it to wake up but no luck there. I always have to restart
    it.

This sounds like the intermitent problem that has been around for a few users since some point during 10.6 Snow Leopard. I had the problem off and on and found the only 'fix' that worked 100% was to set: System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.

  • Macbook pro won't wake up when booted into Windows 7

Macbook Pro (Late 2010) with Snow Leopard and Windows 7 64bit. Bootcamp 3.3
When booted into OS X, then close the lid, let the machine sleep and later, if I connect to power source and USB keyboard and mouse, and then tap keyboard, machine wakes up.
If booted into Windows 7, if I follow same sequence, the machine won't wake up. The only way I can wake the machine up is by opening the lid.
Not a big problem, but certainly an annoyance.
    Can anybody help?

Did you use a geniune windows installation disc? I ask this because I worked on a computer today where someone had tried to use a Windows XP disc that came with a Dell computer. These do not work.
If it was a genuine install disc, did you get all the way through with the installation, or did something go wrong during the install?

  • WON'T WAKE UP WHEN OPENED DURING SLEEP.

this doesnt happen every time but whenever i close my macbook pro to go to sleep and then open it some time later, the screen stays black and the computer won't wake up. i have to close it multiple times and reopen it before it actually does something. Can anyone help me understand why its doing this?

I think this has something to do with the sleep related loss of keyboard response issue that is plaguing MBP with 10.5.1.
I had it happen to mine last night, it freaked me out so I reinstalled Leopard. Let us see how long until the problem crops up again!

  • Late 2009 iMac running Yosemite freezing and won't wake up when Elgato Eye TV starts to record?

As above really, not much more to add.
My husbands late 2009 iMac recently upgraded to Yosemite (latest update installed yesterday) freezes while in sleep mode and has to be 'force shutdown' by holding power button down and then restarted to get it going again.  Recording is stopped.
The Elgato Eye TV is a dual tuner with latest update.
Sometimes it wakes the computer up and begins recording, sometimes not.
No key taps or mouse jiggles get it to wake nor a quick press of the power button, I can hear the computer running and have to hold the power button down until all is quiet then fire it back up.
Other times it just doesn't wake the computer at all and start recording.  I am all out of things to try, I think he had this problem before but not as badly when the iMac was running Snow Leopard.

    Hi Boaz,
I´m facing exactly the same with my Mini which is remotely controlled by a MacBook via Screensharing. Everything works fine unless the Mini goes to sleep. After that I´m not able to wake it up by the MacBook and Wake on LAN (Wol). Even the share is not listed in Finder´s sidebar anymore. It simply doesn´t show up in the share sections anymore. When I log on to my router I can see, that MacMini is not active and I can send WoL package from the router. That brings the Mini back alive, although it still doesn´t show up in the Finder sidebar. When I connect to the Mini via Finder "Connect to share" and type in: vnc://ip-MacMini I can use screensharing again.......
Also I faced the problem with indexed network phantoms....means my Mini was listed in network shares with several different indices e.g. MacMini(2) and (4) and so on..... I wasn´t able to connect and curiously these phantoms show up even when my Mini was shut off! Looks like bonjour or something else is not working properly....
I fixed phantoms by reseting my router (AVM firtzbox), which worked out perfect since yesterday and no indexed phantom is showing up anymore.....
Haven´t fixed the screensharing or waking up thing yet....
I was also taking part in beta testing program and reported these problems to Apple. In Mavericks everything worked really perfect!

  • PB won't wake up when connected to ACD

I have a brand new (day old) Aluminum PB with the following configuration:
    1. 1.67Ghz G4
    2. 1.5G RAM (DDR2 SDRAM)
    3. Mac OSX 10.4.3
It replaces a 3 year old Titanium running 10.4.3 which has never exhibited the problems below.
    -- GOOD SITUATIONS --
When NOT connected to the ACD, and the screensaver kicks in, I can wake the PB just fine.
When connected to the ACD, and I force "Sleep" mode, I can wake the PB just fine.
    -- MEDIOCRE SITUATIONS --
Sometimes, when the PB awakes, after a couple of minutes, the Finder stops responding and I get the spinning wheel of death. More on this in a separate posts "Finder Not Responding After PB Wakens"
-- BAD SITUATIONS (REASON FOR THE POSTING) --
HOWEVER, when connected to the ACD, and the screensaver kicks in and runs for more than a couple of minutes -OR- eventually goes to full sleep on its own, I cannot wake it.
When I try to wake it under these two circumstances, the PB sounds like it is awakening, and I get a black screen (screensaver goes away if not asleep), then I see my mouse pointer, then I get the spinning wheel of death and at that point it's all over (I can wait 10 minutes and nothing).
I've done a hardware test and all is OK according to the test.
I have done the following things to resolve and, yet, nothing works:
    1. Repaired Disk Permissions
    2. Cleared out my Login/Startup files
    3. Reset the PRAM
    4. Performed a control-option Restart (recommended before doing a PMU reset)
    5. Performed a PMU reset
I am at a complete loss. Please help!!!
    David
    Powerbook G4 Aluminum   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I think I have narrowed the problem down to a USB issue (USB connection between the hub on the ACD (Apple Cinema Display) and the PB.
When I unplug the USB connector from the port, the login in window miraculously appears. Now, I need to track down the REASON for this.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Comp won't wake up when opened

    Hey,
I've just started having a problem with my iBook: When I close it and open it, it wont fall asleep and wake up. I have to manually put it to sleep and wake it. I've had my computer for probably 4 or 5 years now.
    Please help......

I went to OS 9, but it still doesn't work. I think the computer just isn't rocognizing that it's been shut or something. It may also be the battery, which I have a spare of. I'll try that and see if it works...
    Thanks

  • Mac mini won't wake up when connected to TV

I just connected my Mac mini (2009) to my LCD TV via HDMI using a mini-DVI to HDMI converter. Twice now when I switch to another input on the TV for any length of time, then I switch back to the Mac's input, the Mac seems to have crashed. The fan starts blowing like crazy and the power light is off. Help!?

    Gentlemen,
Thank you for your suggestions. However, I had already reset both my PRAM and SMU. (I should have mentioned that.) However, I have a first generation iMac G5 and I had only tried the unplug the power method. So, I excitedly removed the back cover in search of those little LED diagnostic lights and began experimenting. (BTW, the following link was more accurate for resetting the SMU on an iMac: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2094).
First of all pressing the SMU button did not solve my problem.
Let me tell you about my diagnostic LEDs. They all come on and stay on just like they should. When I put it to sleep light number 3 goes out, but lights 1 and 2 remain on (just like they should). However, when I have my external HD connected and then put it to sleep, the third light goes out and then a few seconds after that so does the 2nd light.
For "fun" I restarted the computer without the external HD hooked up. My firewire cable WAS connected to the computer, but not to the external HD. I then put it to sleep and light 3 went out and lights 1 and 2 remained on. Then I took the other end of the firewire and connected it to my external hard drive and LED light 2 went out.
Just to clarify: when the computer starts up with the external HD connected all LED lights light just as they should. It is ONLY when the computer goes to sleep with the external HD connected that it shuts down.
One other symptom to throw into the mix (as if there are not enough). In my last several attempts to start up with the internal power button there has been great inconsistency in getting any response if the external HD is connected. However, if I disconnect the external HD, the internal power button powers it right up.
Any ideas? It seems to me that my external drive is the problem. However, I am hesitant to purchase a new hard drive only to find out that its not the problem.

Just a black screen. I can restart after a few long pushes of the power button, and then it comes back and behaves normally. Is Apple working on this bug?

I am having exactly the same problem.
I recently upgraded from OS Lion to OS Maverick. With OS Lion I never had this problem. What is going wrong?
Is Apple working on this problem????
I have als a MacBook Air, OS 10.9.1 (mavericks)

  • G4 won't wake up or sleep on command

In my search, I only found this problem with powerbooks. I have a G4, and it recently won't wake up when it goes to sleep. I have never been able to put into sleep mode on command since getting Tiger. But it does go into it on it's own when left alone, but it won't wake. I had this happen before and reinstalled everything from system software to all software. It worked for a while, and now I'm having the same problem. I just added the 4.6 update today, and it did not help. Any suggestions? I really really hate to have to reinstall everything so often. I also have problems with the fonts being jarbled up in browsers. Both of these problems happened about the same time.
    thanks!

If your Mac happily goes to sleep but won't wake up--Hold down the power switch to force-reboot your machine and get it running again.
Don't worry-your Mac isn't narcoleptic. Its Open Firmware system or NVRAM (nonvolatile RAM) is likely corrupt, and your Mac can't remember how to wake up.
Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Command-Option-O-F key combo until you see a somewhat intimidating command-line display that ends with the Open Fimware prompt. Type the following lines:
    reset-nvram
    press Return on keyboard
    set-defaults
    press Return
    reset-all
    press Return
Your Mac will reboot. Once it's running, put it back to sleep to test. If the problem recurs your Energy Saver preferences may be the culprit. Delete the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file (go to Finder/Hard drive/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration)--don't worry, your Mac will regenerate a new one--and then restart to see if that rights the wrong.
Still did'nt work? Might be time to call AppleCare or see an Apple Genius or a technician.
    Cheers!

  • Won't wake up after sleep

My desktop won't wake up when it's been sleeping for a few hours. It wakes up short term. It just started this a few weeks ago. Any thoughts?

Well my solution may not be the most cientific one but it works for me (at least until the real solution comes to the public)...
My computer has the problem that when it goes to sleep mode she never comes back... but it the screen that does not comes back... all the system is workin in behind (its like the brightness level was set on the less power possible) so i had to turn off the computer and had to do for a long time some times i had to wait that the computer cooled off a little and then try again to turn it on... I some tried things that the support page of apple said it could be... but did worked out... i dont know i think is a problem over 2 factors...
    1. heating (the screen generates to many heat but, TO MANY!)
    2. tiger os the OS "sleep mode" (it knows that the screen its heating a lot and tries to go to sleep to prevent over heating and damage)
So based on this i tried conecting a external monitor to the computer while she was unable to "awake" (or to show some thing in the screen)... and it worked whit no problem at all... so my conclusion was to prevent the over heating (1st factor) and the sleep mode (2nd factor)... so I deactivated the sleep mode setting up the computer to a never sleep mode... and to prevente the over heating well I use a low bright and when i need more brightness (to se the colors of what im doing or some thing like that) I use high brightness... when I away I set the brightness level to no brightness so there is no over heat and no sleep mode (cus if it is deactivated and it over heats it will go to sleep anyway...
    Soooooo....
    1. deactivate Sleep mode...
    2. Activate a Screen saver...
    3. And remember to contro your brightness your self... and turn it off when you are not using your computer...
well i hope it works for some body :P cya...

  • Lemark C510 printer won't wake up

I have a Lexmark C510 printer that won't wake up when I try to print to it. It is connected to the computer via a USB port. The problem is computer and OSX version independent. I have to turn the printer off, then back on in order to send a print job to it. If I wait to long to print and the printer goes into power saver mode, I have have to turn it off and on again. Other printer I use do not have this problem. I have installed the most recent print driver. I can download a file from the Lexmark site called 891012.FLK (a firmware update) but have no idea how to install it. Anyone have any idea?
    Thanks

    Hello Again MaceWindu,
Which of the drivers listed on this website Lexmark C510 Mac OS X Drivers, have you installed?
    The C51X.ZIP: Network firmware for C510 file that you referred to, is for the change to DST;
"The primary purpose for these releases is to account for the new 2007 DST changes that will be effecting AST, EST, CST, MST, PST, Alaska, and Newfoundland time zones."
So I suspect, installing that, may not resolve the problem.
