Monitor apple replaced th one any ideas what that could of been2010
my 27" i5 2.8 ghz imac i bought in sept.2010 had dark shadows all over the monitor apple replaced the computer with a new one just a week ago any ideas what this could of been
Thanks Mike. I had a feeling that might be what it was, though you are correct, in that I won't be able to fully find the problem online. I guess I just wanted a bit of advice as I'd seen numerous problems similar to this, but none exactly the same.
I kept flicking between software and hardware as to what I believed was the problem, but the lack of consistency has me believing its hardware.
Frustrating as it's not within warranty, but we'll see if I can get some concrete information from a store.
Thanks again.

I have a MacBook Pro with Lion Preinstalled, so AHT was present on the hard disc and worked when the product was new. One of the first things I did from new was run AHT and it worked fine. But now it doesn't start - instead the machine (eventually) boots into normal OS X.
Holding down "D" no longer starts Apple Hardware Test! Any idea what's happened and how I fix it? Or do I need to go to the Genius Bar?
Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b), if it makes any difference.
Any ideas? Thanks. However, even with an internet connection that doesn't work for me - the machine just (after an extended delay) boots normally. It doesn't download.
Option-D works for an Internet-based AHT. However that only works with an internet connection. It doesn't seem to download it and install it - it needs internet every time.
Any idea how my local copy of AHT disappeared? I haven't repartitioned the drive or knowingly deleted anything. And how do I reinstate it (because if you need AHT your hardware problems may preclude internet access!)? -
On the bottom right of my MacBook Pro there is a solid line about 3/4" long (looks like it could be a download status gauge). Any idea what that is?
Unfortunately you screen shot is not showing. There is a bug in the forum software that sometime will prohibit images from appearing. This may be one of those occasions.
Browsers such as Safari and Firefox do have small windows that will show downloads which will permit you to monitor the progress. Without actually seeing what you are referring to, I cannot give you a definitive answer.

Received a Pages attachment in email, but can't open it. Error message says it's missing an "index.mlx" -- any idea what that is and how I can open the file?
Many thanks ... after many trials and effort, the sender admitted he doesn't know what he did - he's new to Apple - so guess he'll have to get some training!

Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
There may be third-party software that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting a TcpWindowSize entry into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause these errors. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet size modification for assistance or follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Verify that access to ports 80 and 443 are allowed on your network.
Verify that communication to albert.apple.com or photos.apple.com is not blocked by a firewall, or other Internet security setting.
Discard the .ipsw file, open iTunes and attempt to download the update again. See the steps under Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations.
Restore your device while connected to a different network.
Restore using a different computer.

receive error code 2349 when trying to install iTunes. Any idea what that code means and how to correct?
It's a better bet with a 2330, but the first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards? -
i recently migrated to a new mac. in iphoto, some photos have a small flag on the upper left of the photo. any idea what that is?
That's called Flagging. It's a way to make a quick selection of photos. For instance if you're looking for the best shot to print you might go through the photos and flag candidates for further inspection. Then clicking on the Flagged Section on the left, you can see these selected photos together. You can remove flags by clicking on them, if you mouse over a shot you'll see the option to add a flag by clicking. This can also be done in the Photos menu.

Any idea what this could be?
I apologize, as I'm sure this is going to be VERY hard to put into words what is going on.
I have a white Macbook. You know how when you open it and it's already on, it makes that little whirring sound? That happened as usual. Then I started going online and noticed that whatever sound it usually makes when I start doing something (the fan? a hard drive? I'm sorry, I don't know!) that it didn't sound normal and it sounded really labored, like it was an inconsistent sound and it sounded louder. I shut my Macbook to do something, then opened it again and it made that 'you just opened me' whirring sound, then the screen wouldn't come on. Then the screen came on and I breathed a sigh of relief, figured I'd worry about it when I got home from work and didn't shut it again.
It seems to be working fine, but something seems 'off'. I just went to open Photoshop CS3, a fairly large program that usually starts that sound and hear nothing! And now the program isn't opening at all. So I'm wondering, is that sound usually the hard drive or is it a fan?? I'm def. going to buy a hard drive today to back everything up, but I'm really worried something is wrong with my computer.
Any ideas? And again, I know this is really hard to explain sounds over the internet, so hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about.Take it to the apple store and speak to a genius, it doesn't necessarily have to be a hard drive issue

My computer would not let me update my version of itunes so I was advised to uninstall and start fresh. I still get the same error..."a program needed to complete the installation cannot run". Can any one tell me what program they are referring to or if anyone has a fix for this?
MandeeI'd start with the following user tip with that one:

My iphone 3gs shuts off when flipping to different apps or running certain apps. If it crashes badly I need to plug power to the device to bring it up. This happens whether i have even 90 percent battery life. Any idea as to what this may be?
Sounds like a major hardware problem.
If no change after restoring your iPhone as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, there is a hardware problem. -
Films that I have downloaded from iTunes won't play. I just get a black screen. My computer crashed last week and I had to do a Total Recovery - Films played perfectly before this. I must have deleted a program or link.............. anyone know what could be missing? I can play YouTube videos etc. but nothing in the iTunes store - films or trailers won't work.
The movie is from iTunes. You would think that a download from iTunes to a MacBook could be watched on an HDTV using Apple TV without any headaches bit this does not appear to be the case.

I am trying to upgrad the hard drive in my mac book pro using the disk utility in an attempt to clone my old hard drive. I can only get so far throughj the process where its about to start cloing when I get a message " error 254". Any idea what that means and how do I get around this issue so I can use my new hard drive? Thanks for your input.
VinceConnect the HDD to your MBP. Open Disk Utility>Erase and drag the HDD icon inrt the Name field. The format should be Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Click on the Erase button.
Then try the clone process again. You may use Disk Utility>Restore or a third party cloning application such as Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper.

I started downloading a video from iTunes last night on my ipad when my wifi dropped out. Once I'd reconnected my wifi I tried to recommence the download but it kept saying that download was not available at this time. I then tried the steps in iTunes help but got the same message. Finally, I deleted the video (the part that had downloaded) from my video section and tried to start the download again from the start. However, when I go to iTunes it's still trying to download the original and even this morning I'm still getting the error message. Any ideas what I could do to get the video downloaded? I currently only have access to my ipad. Thanks.
I also have Jolly's problem. I found the iMovie 9.0.9 folder and tried to launch the older version of iMove. It would not launch. I removed all of the iMovie preferences from the Preferences folder, removed iMove 10 from the applications folder, and restarted my Mac. iMove 9.0.9 still won't launch and I can't access my videos created with the older version of iMovie. Is there a way to uninstall iMovie 10 and reinstall iMovie 9.0.9?
I am running Yosemitie on a iMac.
