Monitor Biztalk 2013R2 with SCOM 2012SP1 : Is it possible ?

Hello !
We're testing Biztalk 2013R2 and trying to monitor Biztalk 2013R2 with SCOM but without success (No Problem with Biztalk 2013).
Maybe someone can help us !!
Thank you
Jérémy

Because BizTalk and SCOM are different teams :) likewise BizTalk & SQL /Windows are different teams. When SQL released their 2014, they have not released update for BizTalk 2013.
BizTalk team has to catch up the latest version of SQL or other its underlying software's version upgrade. BizTalk 2013 R2 is mostly a platform upgrade to make it compactable with other underlying softwares like SQL,Windows.
Similarly SCOM team will catch with BizTalk's release by either releasing the newer supported version of MP for 2013 R2 or it would make a official announcement soon.
But what you could expect is atleast an official word from BizTalk saying either BizTalk 2013 R2 would either work or not work with SCOM-MP, which is not the case :(

  • Issues with Monitoring Azure services with SCOM 2012 R2

    Hi,
    I'm trying to setup monitoring of our Azure subscriptions in a new installation of Operations Manager 2012 R2 which is running in-house as it is also monitoring our internal services.  I've used the guide below:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/walterm/archive/2013/04/13/first-impressions-on-system-center-management-pack-for-windows-azure-fabric-preview-for-scom-2012-sp1.aspx
    This has all worked OK and I've been able to add the subscription into OP Manager and it's found the cloud service, storage and VM's.  However when I try to add the monitoring and I go to create this When I select the Add option in the Add Monitoring
    Wizard and click the Search button to list the components (Cloud Service, Storage and VM's) nothing is found despite me having already selected the subscription.
    Has anyone else experienced this or can offer any advice?
    Many Thanks

    Hi,
    Which version of RDP client you are using for your client?
    Does more user login at same period of time?
    As you have commented that after sticking the user can’t able to login in RDCB server, here I can suggest you to check the setting of connection broker. Also you can check that you have place the proper location path of UPD while configuring in collection configuration
    wizard. You can take a look at below article foe virtual desktop configuration.
    Deploying Virtual Desktops with Windows Server 2012
    Are you trying to use same UPD for different collection then also it might happens to occur your issue. The fact of UPD is User profile disks are for a single collection only. A user connecting to two different collections will have two separate profiles. If
    you want to synchronize settings, refer to Microsoft User Experience Virtualization. Go through this article for more understanding related to UPD.

    Hope it helps!

  • Monitor BizTalk Host Queue length and suspended msgs w/SCOM

    First, I hope the BizTalk forum is the right place to ask this. Maybe I should try the SCOM forum as well.
    I'm trying to create two monitors (Not rules, as we want the alert to be automatically healthy when under treshold again and we want to see the status state as well) in SCOM based on performance counters for BizTalk Msgbox Host Queue Length and suspended
    msgs. My question is what I should use as target (class) in SCOM? And can I use "All instances" of the counter or must i create a monitor for each instance (This is a lot of work and not very dynamic)? We want to monitor all the instances/hosts with
    different tresholds, so the first thing I did was to target the "BizTalk Host" class, so I can do overrides to different hosts.
    The problem with this is it will generete a alert for all hosts if one instance is over treshold. I also tried to target the "Run-time role", and this actually works better, but not perfect as i cannot set a treshold for just one instance/host
    then and it will close the alert if any other intance is under treshold.
    Anyone have experiences with SCOM and monitoring Hosts queues and/or suspended msgs as monitors?
    thank you in advance for all suggestions!

    I would suggest to look into spool table and its size . As per recommendation it  count should not be greater than 3000 per server .
    Its easy way to monitor the performance counter "Message Box:General Counters /Spool size".you can execute one the following SQL in the BizTalk message box database.
    You can have a counter for spool table size and manually you can use below sql query to find out the count.
    SELECT count(*) from SPOOL WITH (NOLOCK)
    SELECT top 1 rows  FROM sys.partitions WHERE object_id = object_id(‘spool’)
    Note :The NOLOCK keyword is important in first query, you don’t want to put any locks in the spool table while measuring the row count.  The second query is the one used by the performance counter “Spool Size” using the stored procedure
    “MsgBoxPerfCounters_GetSpoolSize”

  • Open Text Content Server Monitoring Agent 5.0 with SCOM using SNMP

     Hi All
    Got a requirement to integrate Opentext monitoring agent with SCOM 2012.
    Can we use SNMP to forward the alerts to SCOM console ? or can we directly monitor opentext content server with some MP's ?
    Regards
    Madhavi.

    That's the point. You cannot discover Windows Computers as Network Devices with SCOM 2012. So sending traps (directly) to SCOM is not possible.
    You can think about a workaround like writing the events to the Windows Event Log and grab them with an Event Log Rule/Monitor. Or send the traps to System Center Orchestrator and write an Alert using the SCOM Integration Pack.

  • Integration with JMS queue from BizTalk 2013R2

    Hi All,
    We are planning to integrate biztalk application with Oracle Siebel CRM (8.1.1.11). they wanted to use JMS queue to receive xml message from BizTalk2013R2 and also send message to BizTalk for more reliability.
    IS there any out of box adapter by which we can connect to their JMS queue.
    We dont want to go with 3rd party software like jt adapter for JMS queue
    Regards,
    Manish
    Manish

    Hi Manish,
    As of now there is no out-box-adapter for JMS queue.
    If you don’t want JNBridge adapter (I hope you’re referring to same. There is no “jt” adapter as you mentioned), you can create a custom adapter which access the JMS queue.
    Use WCF LOB adaper (WCF Lob
    Adapter Wizard)and create an adapter.
    Following article details about the .NET code for messaging with JMS queue, try the code.
    Use JMS Messaging in your C# Applications
    And following articles give details about using WCF LOB adapter/Wizard:
    What Is the WCF LOB Adapter SDK?
    Sample:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb798102.aspx
    http://geekswithblogs.net/michaelstephenson/archive/2009/02/10/129302.aspx
    Use similar code (one from above codeproject article where how to do messaging between JMS queue is shown) to wrapper it around custom WCF LOB adapter.
    Give it a try, if you don’t want to spend anything on a 3rd party adapter.

  • BizTalk Zombie Message not coming as error in SQL Job "Monitor BizTalk Server"

    Hello All,
    I have Zombie message in Message box
    But when I run job "Monitor BizTalk Server" no error reported.
    My understanding this should be reported as error in second step. Same has been in details in URL
    http://biztalkmessages.vansplunteren.net/2010/10/19/monitor-biztalk-server-job-in-biztalk-2010/
    Can anyone help why above behavior is different ?
    Tarun

    Well....here's the deal.  It seems the group knowledge on the Monitor BizTalk Job is pretty limited.  Here's a better blog with some more information:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/19700.biztalk-server-monitor-biztalk-server-job.aspx
    I don't think a Zombie would immediatly qualify for any of those cases because for some period of time, it still belongs to a service instance, just one that can no longer Consume it.  Eventually it may qualify for condition 4 once the Completed Orchestration
    is purged.
    Disclaimer: This is educated speculation.  If anyone has done any testing around this, I and others would appriciate some guidence.

  • Monitoring BizTalk servers

    Hi All,
    Need your inputs\advice\best practices on the below scenario.
    I wanted to know the approach to solve a manual effort that I put in daily while monitoring the production BizTalk servers.
    On a daily basis, we do a few check to see is the host instances, SQL jobs, ports and locations are running fine.
    We save the suspended message bodies from the admin console and email them to the corresponding teams for mitigative action.
    This is a pretty redundant task, that we do on a daily basis.
    Considering that the servers are now pretty much stable and 70 % of the errors are repeating errors, could you please suggest a way to automate this process.
    Also please point out me to any tools which could help me achive the same.
    Note : We already have SCOM alerts in place to notify us on suspensions.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Ujjwal
    -Ujjwal

    Hi Ujjwal,
    When you have SCOM, then it should all these monitoring tasks for you.
    Have you got
    BizTalk monitoring pack installed in SCOM ? its way to go. If you don’t want to have BizTalk monitoring pack in SCOM, then you can create new monitoring rule in SCOM to do these tasks.
    Following monitoring rules are already available in BizTalk monitoring pack for SCOM or you can create on in SCOM:
    Create a rule to monitor the      status of BizTalk artefacts like ports, orchestration etc. If they stop,      create an action to email/notify your team.
    Create a rule to monitor the      status of SQL jobs, is they fail or don’t run, create a action to      email/notify your team
    Create a rule to look for a “Specific text” in the suspended message and create an action to send emails to the appropriate      team based on the “Specific text” in the suspended message.
    If you have BizTalk monitoring pack, just need to enable them or update them to your need.
    I would not create a additional monitoring script when you have SCOM and it can do all the task you’re doing now manually.

  • Need to monitor event ID with Event Level :Critical , Also how to generate (powershell or otherwise) an event with Event Level :Critical

    Need to monitor event ID with Event Level :Critical , Also how to generate (powershell or otherwise) an event with Event Level :Critical

    Hi
    First, we Need to clarify what do you want.
    1) You want to Monitor a Windows Event with the severity "Error" (there is no Critical for Windows Events, only Error").
    2) You want to create an Event in SCOM. I think you if you talk about "Event" in SCOM you mean actually an Alert.
    There is no direct way like a tool/powershell script  of only creating an Alert in SCOM only if you are going to use the SCOM SDK
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh329086.aspx or using the Orchestrator Create Alert activity.
    If you want to create a SCOM alert depending on a Windows Event you either can create a rule
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff730470.aspx or a Monitor

  • BizTalk 2013R2 Developer Edition from Gallery - SQL Expired!!

    I an a MSDN ultimate subscription holder and I have created a virtual machines within Azure from the Gallery.  I have select the BizTalk 2013R2 Developer Edition from the gallery which has initially been great and save me a lot of time with
    the setup.  Unfortunately after only a couple of weeks my SQL license has expired.
    As I did not select any form of evaluation edition I would not expect software licenses to expire when they are provisioned from the gallery whenever.  As I understand it as an MSDN ultimate customer I am covered to license BizTalk Developer Edition
    and indeed SQL which come as part of the gallery VM.
    I've seen a number of posts online around this with no solution and I was wondering if you have a view on this.
    Have I picked up the wrong understanding or is their a defect with the BizTalk 2013R2 Developer edition gallery image.  A colleague recently reported the same thing happened with BizTalk 2013R2 standard edition image.
    Any help and advice would be appreciate as I am stuck if SQL has expired.  I don't see the point in provisioning a new gallery image if the same problem will happen.
    It is very convenient provisioning from the gallery but if the licenses expire then they become less useful and very annoying.  I could understand if I provisioned an evaluation copy but this was not the case here.
    Cheers
    Stephen

    I have had no timely response from Microsoft on this yet, despite trying my best to seek assistance from them to help fix their defect.
    Anyway I did a fresh search online and came accross this which has worked for me
    https://www.phidiax.com/blog/post/Azure-Gallery-Image-for-BizTalk-Server-SQL-Server-evaluation-period-has-expired
     If you have access to a valid copy of SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition then you can perform an Edition Upgrade and go from SQL 2014 Enterprise Evaluation Edition to SQL 2014 Developer Edition.  Once I did this and restarted SQL Services I was
    back up and running.
    I suspect Microsoft will need to do this with the base gallery image and then re-load it whenever they can be bothered getting around to it OR whenever a customer with an Azure technical support contract raises it!  No pay, no technical support outside
    this forum.
    I have not tried again to fire up a new 2013R2 Developer Edition image from the gallery to see if this is fixed yet.
    Hopefully this helps anyone in the same boat as me.  If you do not have access to SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition (via say msdn subscription) to perform this upgrade then I'm afraid you will still have difficulty resolving this.

  • BizTalk 2013r2 SQL Adapter 64bit?

    I have recently configured a new server for BizTalk 2013r2 Standard Edition and ESB Toolkit.
    On my first check to test routing to the ESB Exception Db was working ok, the following error was raised from Microsoft.Practices.ESB, All.Exceptions:
    "The send adapter for this send port is not supported on 64-bit host instances. Please make sure that the send adapter is associated with a 32-bit only handler. "
    I have the All.Exceptions send port configured to run under a host I've called "SendHost" which is configured to 64bit. I know previous versions of the SQL adapter were 32bit only but I thought this had been upgraded since BizTalk 2010, or possibly
    even before.
    Maybe the fact that I'm using Standard edition is significant? Any suggestions welcome.
    Thanks,
    Rob.

    No, the legacy SQL Adapter is only supported in 32-bit Host Instances.  That has never changed, nor is is likely to.
    All editions of BizTalk Server 2013 R2 support 64bit processes on 64bit Windows.
    You have to create a 32bit Send Host for the legacy SQL Adapter.

  • Monitoring BizTalk Server through Appdynamics tool.

    Hi All,
    In my current project, we will be using Appdynamics for Monitoring our BizTalk Server environment. As, i have never heard and used the tool before. I have the following queries:-
    1) What are the list of parameters we need to pass to appdynamics for monitoring BizTalk Server?
    2) Can we use it for production environment as well?
    3) How will appdynamics will be installed in the environment?
    4)  We have very critical biztalk applications (which do not tolerate any downtime), is there any way to install the appdynamics without re-starting the BizTalk Host?
    Thanks & Regards

    well, I would hope that you will get answers of all the queries from the Appdynamics
    product company? I would suggest you to get in touch with the sales team and arrange some documents?

  • Monitoring BizTalk Event Viewer 2006R2

    Hi ,
    In our project, we are using "Schedule" custom adapter in BizTalk for some receive locations and every Friday these schedules should run.
    But I have got warning message last friday with event id 5740 stating that adapter schedule was changed to next friday.
    Do we have any simple way to monitor BizTalk events getting fired everyday? Also is there a way to customise HAT queries to find out messages required?

    Hi Raghu,
    This code may help you out to monitor event logs
    using System;
    using System.IO;
    using System.Diagnostics;
    public class Test
    public static void Main()
    // check for the event log source on specified machine
    // the Application event log source on MCBcomputer
    if (!EventLog.Exists("Application", "MCBcomputer"))
    Console.WriteLine("The log does not exist!");
    return;
    EventLog myLog = new EventLog();
    myLog.Log = "Application";
    myLog.MachineName = "MCBcomputer";
    Console.WriteLine("There are " + myLog.Entries.Count + " entr[y|ies] in the Application log:");
    foreach (EventLogEntry entry in myLog.Entries)
    Console.WriteLine("\tEntry: " + entry.Message);
    // check for Demo event log source existence
    // create it if it not exist
    if (!EventLog.SourceExists("Demo"))
    EventLog.CreateEventSource("Demo", "Demo");
    EventLog.WriteEntry("AnySource", "writing error to demo log.", EventLogEntryType.Error);
    Console.WriteLine("Monitoring of Application event log began...");
    Console.WriteLine(@"Press 'q' and 'Enter' to quit");
    while (Console.Read() != 'q')
    // Now we will monitor the new entries that will be written.
    // When you create an EntryWrittenEventHandler delegate
    // you identify the method that will handle the event.
    myLog.EntryWritten += new EntryWrittenEventHandler(OnEntryWritten);
    // EnableRaisingEvents gets or sets a value indicating whether the
    // EventLog instance receives EntryWritten event notifications.
    myLog.EnableRaisingEvents = true;
    public static void OnEntryWritten(Object source, EntryWrittenEventArgs e)
    Console.WriteLine("written entry: " + e.Entry.Message);
    Thanks

  • My Thunderbolt-port equipped 15" Macbook Pro (Early 2011) works with other monitors but not with my Thunderbolt Display.

    I just got a thunderbolt monitor and excitedly, I plugged my early 2011 thunderbolt port equipped 15" Macbook Pro (running 10.8.2) into it and... no image on the monitor.
    Ok, so I know that the TB display works because I plugged a mid-2012 13" Macbook Pro into it (running 10.7.5) and it works perfectly. In fact, I'm using it to type this message right now.
    Other details:
    - in both the displays preference pane and about this mac/system info, the 15" mbp recognizes the display, yet... no picture either clamshell open or closed. restarted with it plugged in and not plugged in, no difference. also? sound comes through the monitor.
    - ALSO, i plugged in a mini displayport monitor into the 15" port, and it displayed fine, so the port seems to be doing something.
    see my conundrum?

    It should just work - if it's not working with your 2011 model (works just fine with my 15" late 2011, right out of the box) I would get in touch with AppleCare as soon as possible and see what the senior techs may have to say...
