  • Monitor color profile, fast switch script

    Hi everyone,
    I often switch between two monitor color profile, the default one "LED Cinema Display" and the calibrated one, named with the date of calibration (ex:"22June2011").
    Is there a way to fast switch between this two with a script, without entering in monitor preferences and move to color tab every time? Maybe set an icon on the menu bar... Or an icon on the dock...
    Thanks,
    Filippo

    More important, the question is not about color management, is about scripting.
    Otherwise we're just wasting words, that doesn't seem the right place to speak about profiling...
    Do you want help or not? What you're asking has everything to do profiling and color management. You're going about the use of profiles for your monitor completely wrong.
    Any profile is an image of how that, and only that device displays, captures or reproduces color. The only monitor profile that makes any difference is one you create. Since you're using i1Profiler, then you must be using an i1 Pro to profile the monitor.
    The monitor profile you made with i1Profiler is the only one you should be using. It is an exact description of the white point, black point, gamut and color range of the monitor you are looking at. The canned profile has nothing to do with the monitor in front of you. It's a generic average that is just short of completely useless since it is not a direct description of the monitor you own. Forget the "LED Cinema Display" profile, or any other canned profile on the system.
    I can only assume you're trying to simulate CMYK color in Photoshop. To do that, your start with the monitor profile you have. To create a meaningful CMYK simulation, you need to create your own inks file to use as your CMYK color space in Photoshop.

  • Monitor color profile when switching between LR and PS

    I have a calibrated profile in use with PS.PS and LR are set to Adobe RGB color space but I use the calibrated profile. When I export an image from LR to PS it shows the mismatch dialogue box: Embedded Adobe RGB 1998, Working: Monitor calibrated profile.
    should I use the 1)embedded profile instead of working space, 2)convert to working space or 3)discard embedded profile? I will obviously reimport to LR when finished in PS.

    >it shows the mismatch dialogue box: Embedded Adobe RGB 1998, Working: Monitor3-7-08.
    Ow, this means you have Photoshop set up incorrectly. Go to Edit->Color settings and make sure that the top-profile (RGB) says adobeRGB. You should never have a monitor profile there except if you're a web designer.
    >DYP, you can change LR colour space to other than ProPhoto as default.
    No you cannot. You can only change the default profile Lightroom uses to send to Photoshop. Lightroom ALWAYS uses a prophotoRGB-like working space internally for every picture.
    >I set it to Adobe RGB to sync with camera and PS.
    If you shoot RAW, the in-camera setting does not matter and Lightroom will render as wide as prophotoRGB.
    >Would changing to ProPhoto colour space not cancel my calibrated monitor profile? Or am I misunderstanding the principles behind monitor calibration?
    No, they have nothing to do with each other. Color managed apps automatically translate between their working space and the monitor profile. This capability is the basic meaning of being color managed. They get the information about the monitor profile from the OS. You never have to tell them about it. Photoshop just knows it. You do not have to set it up anywhere.

  • LCD color temperature

    Hi,
    Is there a way to adjust monitor color temperature? As notebooks surely don't have any buttons on the lid, should be a software thing.
    Toshiba Satellite L40-14G, KDEmod 4.
    Is it possible?

    I've used argyllcms with the one of the cheap Huey colorimeters and it worked pretty well. I don't need professional grade color management, but I understand that argyll can provide this if you have the patience and hardware to get setup.  Note that the target color temp is typically based on the type of work you'll be doing with the system. You can read more about that at the argyll docs page.

  • Monitor color crazy after trying to setup on iMac G3

    This one has me puzzled and some history is needed so please bear with me. My wife has an iMac G3-266, tray loading Fruit model. The screen flickers and pops from time to time and from other posts it appears to be the flyback transformer. The screen has not gone out completely but time will take its toll soon. Anyway, I have a G3-233 beige desktop unit with an Apple Multiscan 15" display and I tried to hook it up to the imac to see if I could use an external monitor on the iMac. I purchased an A-B switch box, 15 pin and two cords, hooked up my G3 beige and the iMac with that setup. On restart, both computers gave me a purplish color on the monitor, I could not switch resolutions and it was even causing a freeze. I tired to recalibrate the monitor but it did not help. So I switched back and returned all to the orginal setups and then my G3 desktpo was still giving me wierd colors. I shut it off and check my connections and restarted and all was fine again. Day two..I tried just hooking the monitor to the iMac connection and leave out the switch box and the extra cables. Same story, blurry and bad colors. Again with purple and reddish highlights. So, this time when I reconnected the monitor to my G3 desktop, it was messed up again, no matter what I tried to do. I restarted several times and no go. I looked at the cord from the monitor and two pins were missing and I thought that was it but after checking my manual, it showed those two pins were not used at all. So I reconnected the monitor and restarted and low and behold things were back to normal.
    My question in all this, why can I not connect the display to the iMac and have it work and why does it mess things up when I try to put it back like it was? I need to eventually do something with the iMac before the screen goes out completely. Any ideas? Thank you and sorry for the long explanation. (By the way, I have upgraded my system to an iMac G5 2.1ghz but still use the ole G3 for other stuff)

    From the developer note for the Rev A iMac:
    Video Display
    The built-in video display uses a 15-inch CRT (13.8-inch viewable diagonal). The CRT uses shadow-mask technology and has a dot pitch of 0.28 mm. The display is multi-scan and supports three resolutions. Table 3-2 lists the resolutions and the pixel depths supported with either the standard 2 MB of SGRAM or with expanded SGRAM.

  • Monitor colors dimmed after receiving a "fatal error" messag

    I was going to see if I could backup my quickbooks into a windows mode. After it started to gather information, I chickened out and pressed control-period. My monitor colors are now all faded. Anyone know how to fix this?

    You need to delete this application from your palm. Click on the Home button on your palm. Click on the top right where you see the time and "app" will come up with a drop-down list. Click on Delete and then select the application you want to delete.
    When prompted, "are you sure you want to delete...," click on "yes."
    I hope this is helpful!

  • Adobe Reader changes windows color scheme after launching

    Hi all,
    We have been using heavily adobe reader. the problem we have encountered is that after launching adober reader on windows 7 pro, default color scheme changes and it is being displayed as if we are on safe mode.
    We could not find a solution so far. Hope you would provide me some info in order to fix it.

    Interesting! What was the color scheme prior to launch? Does this problem happen on every launch of Reader X? What if you restore the color scheme and re-launch Reader? If possible can you stick a screenshot of the issue you just described.

  • Setting my monitor's color temperature

    Simple question... How would I set the color temperature of my display from 9300K to 6500K, absent the usual hardware menu? Are there any software utilities that let me set color temperature.
    Edit: my graphics hardware is i945GM, not anything from nVidia, for what it's worth.
    (And apparently gamma corrections don't have any bearing on color temperature. Oy veh.)

    Hmm. Found something interesting here:
    3) Accessing the displays DDC/CI channel, to adjust the screen
        controls (brightness, contrast, color temperature etc.) automatically.
        This seems to be a lost cause at the moment under X11. While the DDC
        channel is often used in starting the X11 server to read the EDID,
        it is not made available to applications that need/want to adjust
        display settings. There is a project that goes in this direction
        somewhat (DDIcontrol), but it is not properly integrated
        into X11 - the application drawing the test colors should be
        able to access the same display.screen's DDC/CI channel, not
        rely on the user to make the association, and not have to incorporate
        all sorts of device dependent access code (that's what an X11 display
        driver is meant to be shielding the application from!)
        This could be a low level function that allows the application to
        read and write DDC messages, or it could be a higher level
        function that allows "brightness", "contrast" etc. to be
        read and set (encapsulating any display differences).
    Hmm, EDID... completely forgot about the EDID settings. I'll try messing around with that and the DDC stuff, I think. Mayhap there's something going wrong with settings autodetection or whatever.

  • Color Temperature changes when playing video via Dell 2713H with iMac

    Hi people,
    I'm having major issues with the above. This happens specifically when video is played, be it via youtube or through VLC or even XBMC.The color temperature of the video just shifts to a cooler blue and then after a while goes back to normal. This does not happen on the monitor of the iMac itself. Otherwise, viewing still photos or browsing the web works okay. It is really very irritating as you don't expect this to be happening.
    I've read that this could be an issue affecting macbooks with the ability to switch between integrated and dedicated video cards, but i can't seem to find any thing suggesting a fix for iMacs. Just so you guys know, it occurs on my macbook pro as well too.
    I'm running mountain lion 10.8.2 on the iMac and connecting the dell u2713h via an displayport to mini displayport cable supplied by Dell. iMac is a late 2009 model.
    If anyone could offer any insights, i'll really appreciate it.
    Thanks
    J

    I found this in another thread and it fixed the same problem for me. Apparently it's a Dell "feature" it detects video and changes the color settings for you... ? On the monitor just disable Display Settings>Smart Video Enhance.

  • Color temperature issue on MacBook Pro Early 2011

    From 10.8.1 I have a problem with my Macbook Pro.
    When switching the video card from integrated to discrete, changes the color temperature of the monitor which is more blue.
    The 10.8.3 does NOT solve the problem! I have read that the cause could be the Samsung SSD 830.
    I have read several post but no one has found a solution!
    How do you make it clear to Apple that this problem is widespread and ask for a fix?

    I had the same problem - it lasted for about two weeks: I posted here, on the Photoshop forum (because, of course, the discrete card kicks in when you run Photoshop).
    A handful of other users posted here and in the Photoshop forum as well. For most - if not all - of us, the problem just vanishes after a couple of weeks. I've no idea why - I only know that it occurs on a variety of models, that it's easily reproduced, and that it just simply 'goes away' after a while.
    Give yourself at least two weeks - if you're still having the problem, call back.
    There's no magic update or trick that I know of - you can, of course, use gfxCardStatus to use only the integrated card, but that's just a temporary fix until, well, the problem solves itself.

  • Sudden color temperature change when opening some programs

    I got this sudden color temperature change when I open Photoshop, Maya and a few other games. When I quit the programs the color goes back to normal. It first started happening once a while and I didn't really notice, but now it's become a regular thing... I think it begun after upgrading to Yosemite. It's quite uncomfortable to my eyes but it's bearable. I'm just concerned whether it's a sign for something worse. Please please help!
    I took photos of before and after the color change, basically it becomes much brighter and more blueish.

    Did you ever find a solution for this? It recently started for me too, and it's already getting on my nerves First I thought it was because of dynamically switching the graphics card but unfortunately it happens when I use it on an external monitor only (and thus is locked to the Radeon card)...

  • The monitor colors were abnormal

    My Mac air has an external monitor, Dell u2414h, connected through DP cable ( Mini-DP to DP). In these days, I encountered a monitor color issue, might be a bug or a hardware problem, maybe someone have this experience to confirm that, thanks in advance.
    the process:
    1. The Mac air connected to the external monitor, Both of the internal an external monitors are used normally;
    2. closed the Mac air lid, the external monitor was still opening at this time and the OS X system can be operated normally;
    3. I left the notebook to do other things;
    4. About five minutes later the external monitor went to sleep;
    5. More than one hour later, I came back, the OS X system was sleep, opened the lid;
    6. Both of the internal and external monitors' colors were abnormal, some application icons and the desktop wallpaper had red blocks; These red blocks on the desktop wallpaper didn't disappear automatcally, must to replace a new wallpaper;
    The system.log has "GPU hang:" and "Trying restart GPU ..." messages;
    The loginwindow crashed, and saved a crash report;
    This issue occured several times;

    Is this only happening in Firefox?
    Sounds that a screensaver is kicking in.

  • Strange color temperature when using iSight

    The image generated by my iSight always tends to have a "yellow" tone to it. Can the color temperature be adjusted somewhere? I compared images obtained under the same lighting by colleagues and the color temp with their Macbooks is more blue/white. It is frustrating to always look jaundiced!

    iSight color is set automatically by the app that runs it and is effected by room lighting and even reflections from your monitor, room decor, floor, and wall coverings.
    I can suggest two ways to change the color of your images:
    (1) Use only one color of light in the room, and adjust it by changing lamps if necessary. See Apple's article at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3097
    This single room light color includes reflections from your monitor. I change my System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Desktop to use one of the Solid Gray colors rather than the standard screen color that is installed with Mac OS. The solid, neutral nature of gray greatly reduces the yellow color shift that is automatically applied to correct for a blue or purple desktop. The difference is increasingly notable as room light is reduced.
    Tungsten light is very orange-yellow. If your only light source is tungsten and you are still seeing an image that is too yellow, try changing the lamp bulb to one of the daylight-colored fluorescent replacement lamps. After testing four different brands and colors, I found one that works in my room.
    (2) You can take manual control if you add iGlasses2: http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/
    You can try before you buy to see if it does what you want.
    (10.6 users note that iGlasses is NOT yet compatible.)

  • An error The local farm is not accessible. Cmdlets with FeatureDependencyId are not registered after launching a ps1 script from cmd file.

    I'm trying to load sharepoint script from *.cmd file.
    I have Sharepoint 2010 installed on Windows 7 x64 and SQL server 2008r2.
    My cmd file is:
    Powershell -v 2 -NonInteractive -NoLogo -File 1.ps1
    My sharepoint file 1.ps1 is:

    $action='uninstall'

    else
    $action = $action.ToLower()

    { $_ -eq "removesolution" } { $removeSolution = $true; break }
    { $_ -eq "deactivatecorpus" } { $deactivateCorpus = $true; break }
    { $_ -eq "deactivatesupport" } { $deactivateSupport = $true; break }
    default { Write-Host -f Red "Error: Invalid action: $action "; Exit -1 }
    Check the Sharepoint snapin availability.

    Please help me. I don't understand why the script is launched from the sharepoint management shell but doesn't work from the cmd file.

    I have an answer for my problem:  for solving a problem I've made several steps:
    1. Run farm installation under AD admin credentials - runas /user:Domain1\DomainAdmin1 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN\psconfigui.exe".
    This user has been added as farm administrator in the wizard.
    This user has been added as DBO in the SQL Server. (This is the main difference with my previous attempts)
    2. Execute a command Add-SPShellAdmin Domain1\UserAccount1 in
    the Management Shell of Sharepoint.
    3. Run SQL server and add Sharepoint_Shell_Access to the Domain1\UserAccount1
    (my main account) in the Config database
    4. Run CMD file only from Start->Run menu.
    runas /user:Domain1\UserAccount1 "C:\1.cmd".
    Do not use Total Commander command prompt or file list for executing *.cmd of *.bat files without root administrator account.
    Thanks all for help.
