Monitor Controls under OS X

I shipped my old G3 iMac to my daughter in LA after installing 10.3 as I don't think it will handle 10.4. She now needs to adjust the monitor I am wonder is that still handled through the System Preferences or does she need to reboot into 9 and use the Monitors Control Panel.

Have you already done this manually? I've seen Labview scale front panels very strangely when changing resolutions...

I'm using a viewsonic 19" LCD monitor with a powermac 7100/66. The only resolution available in the monitor control panel is 640x480. The viewsonic gives me a message to use 1440x900. The mac specs state it's capable of 1152x870 @ 8 bit. Help!

For unsupported resolutions, one may need to see if there are any software
solutions; maybe the minimum specs of the display are not met by an 8-bit
color specification of the video card in the computer.
Does the display support two kinds of connections, another one, plus VGA?
Could be the display needs some other support for it to work. Drivers?
VRAM? A different control panel and (third-party) software?
The limits may vary due to the VRAM on the card. With enough there, and
with a VGA connection (or supported converter to/from older Mac DB-15)
and the video graphics card with minimal supported specs will show that.
Been several years since I've run any PowerMac, & only used a variety of
Apple CRT color displays with them. Most times, they were very adequate.
A wider array of original choices appeared in the Displays control panel...
So I suspect the lack of video support in the graphics card or VRAM, to be
a player in this resolution limit you see in the control panel. A later CPU/GPU
and better hardware, later Mac OS, offered greater support for newer driver
along with better results.
There may not be a workable upgrade to a different graphic video card for
that old a vintage computer; or if there was one, to locate that now may be
a next-to-impossible mission. Was there any hints in the web site for older
Macs, the LowEndMac site, or others? Some are no longer current sites.

Captured data not as smooth as shown by the processor's monitor control???

I am capturing audio and video using a webcam.
Video Format : CINEPAK
Audio Format : IMA4
FileType : QUICKTIME
I have enabled the monitor control of the processor from whcih i am retreiving the datasource.
The video it shows it very smooth and my captured video shows the frame rate of less than 2 and sometimes even less than 1 in the video properties.
I have also set the frame rate of the processor to 30 using the FrameRateControl but all in vain.
plzzzzzzz HELP.

Remote monitoring, control, data transferi vb... bilgisayarlar arası iletişim için uygun menzil şartlarında kablosuz wireless Ağı veya zigbee mesh topolojisi kurabilirsiniz. Bunun için çok özel bir fiziksel donanıma ihtiyacınız yok. Örneğin basit kablosuz bir modem ve birkaç wireless Router ile bu işi çözebilirsiniz.(local kablosuz ağ) Yada dediğim gibi mesh topolojisini destekleyen örneğin xbee marka alıcı vericiler ile bu dediklerinizi yapabilirsiniz.

Monitor Control Panel - only one option...

Hello people.
I'm using a generic 9.2.2 install on a FW drive, which boots and operates fine. I've used it on several machines, with several monitors.
I'm currently using this working installation on a Phillips 150S and the profile for it does not appear in the Monitor Control Panel.
So I'm stuck at 800x600 on a 15" display...
How do I get the Phillips profile back and run at 1024x768?

Your on the money, it's an old 450 Sawtooth running dual 500's and I dropped a Gforce 4MX 32 from an MDD 867DP into it.
Restoring the standard (and unbelievably powerful) ATI Rage 128 video card restored the maximum resolution of 1024x768.
Oh well, only so much one can do - thanks again for your prompt assistance.

Best Monitor for Under $500

I'm looking to pick up a new monitor for the office and I was given a budget of $500 to work with. Obviously, this excludes the best models available, but
I should still be able to find something decent. Any help is appreciated.
Here are my requirements.
1. Cost must be under $500
2. Good color accuracy. I'm a graphic designer, so this is very important.
3. 22" or bigger.
4. 1920 x 1080 or better
5. Wide viewing angle.
6. Good contrast ratio
7. Good overall sharpness. I do not want grainy whites.
8. Glossy or matte screen is fine.
More details
1. Well lit office environment (fluorescent lighting).
2. LED or LCD. Either option is fine. Looking for the best overall quality regardless of technology.
3. Gaming performance / response time is not important. This will only be used for design work.
Models under consideration
1. HP 2310m
2. Samsung SyncMaster F2380M (It seems to no longer available)
3. HP 2311x
4. HP ZR24W
5. Dell UltraSharp U2410 (poor quality control)
Are there any other good models that I am leaving out?

I can only say that I have three F2380's (without the M) and even while they are not up to IPS monitors, they are way better than TN monitors, meet all the other requirements you stated and IMO they do deliver a very, very nice price / performance ratio.

Problems in monitoring mbeans under Weblogic8.1

I use JDMK5.1 to connect two Applications with JMX RmiConnector. The Applications run in WebLogic8.1.4. App1 is a normal application monitored by App2. App1 creates RMIConnectorServer and App2 creates RMIConnectorClient, an HtmlAdaptor listening 8082 is also created in App1. App2 manages App1 by monitoring and controlling the mbeans of App1.
I got two weird problems which making me almost crazy:
1. App2 can get the MBean's property of App1, but if the property is primitive type (such as long, int or boolean) and the MBean is not a StandardMBean, the property will be "null" in App2, and "UNAVAILABLE: javax.management.MBeanException wraps [java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: long]" is shown in the html page of HttpAdaptor.
2. App2 can get some mbeans but not all mbeans. App2 can get objectname of all mbeans in App1, but with some mbeans, App2 get the MBeanInfo will encounter the exception below:

Thanx for the rapid reply.
My App1 and App2 both run on the same WebLogic8.1 with JDK 1.4.1. But wheather or not they run in the same server, the things go no different.
My application classpath only contains JDMK5.1, and no other JMX implementation.
Under the WebSphere5.1, things are totally differenet. Wheather or not App1 and App2 runs on the same WebSphere server, the problems above never happend!

How to load monitor profiles under Bootcamp running Windows XP?

I have a macbook pro SR (Geforce 8600M GT 256MB) with bootcamp and I can't start the color control panel applet on windowsXP. I have an external monitor and I downloaded an icc profile made by an user with the same monitor and panel. It works perfect under MacOS, but in WindowsXP I can't do anything.
Anybody knows if exists any other software to load a color profile when Windows starts up?

Best practice for using remote control under limited rights?

Hi. We are getting ready to take admin rights away from our users and make them standard users. We plan to utilize Zen for most of our in-scope applications so that we can allow users to install supported software. There is usually no problem in that case because Zen can elevate to System access during the install. However, we know that there are applications out there that a user may want to install that is not packaged in Zen. Also, in the event that a system setting needs to be changed, we will have to have a method for supporting this. In either case, the user will call our help desk. Unfortunately, the user will not have enough rights to do the install or system change even if the help desk associate remote control's the PC. What is the best practice to handle this situation in a Netware/Zenworks environment where users only have limited access?
I was thinking of three possibilities:
1.) The obivous one is to send a technician over to log in using local admin credentials to install the software or perform the change. (Drawback - not very efficient because a desktop tech would have to get over to the user's PC to perform the work)
2.) Have the help desk engineer log out of the machine through remote control, log back in as local admin to install the software or perform the change. (Drawback - not very convienant and time consuming.)
3.) Have the help desk engineer use the "run as" command or even create a Zen application object that could be executed to provide temporary rights for installing software or making system changes. Aaron Margosis of Microsoft writes about this quite a bit in his blog Aaron Margosis' "Non-Admin" WebLog : Table of Contents (Aaron Margosis' Non-Admin WebLog) (Drawback - some software or settings will not work properly using this technique)
The last one that I didn't list was creating a new application object. I did not factor this one in because this isn't always applicable to system changes and we really don't want to be making app objects for every out of scope app that exists in the user community. We typically only make them for widely used and supported apps.

Satellite A300 fan control under Linux

Hi all,
I'm running Fedora 9 (kernel 2.6.26) on my Toshiba A300 (T8100, 3Gb of ram). Almost every piece of hardware is running correctly (except the radeon 3650 card, but that was expected and people are working on a driver for it). Now the only issue that I'm facing is the CPU fan noise. What happens is that even if I keep the laptop idle purposely for a long period (CPU activity is vey low), the CPU fan keeps spinning during all that period and is very noisy and very disturbing.
Typically the fan starts spinning (at 100% of its rpm, very loud) as soon as I boot the PC and doesn't stop at all. When I boot under Windows Vista, the fan behaves differently, that's it starts spinning when there is a long high workload period and then slows down and eventually stops when the PC becomes idle.
I tried using different CPU governors (Linux kernel drivers) such as conservative and powersave and nothing changed. The noise is there, the fans are spinning *without* actually decreasing the CPU temperature (which is constant ~45 C when the it's idle), etc.
So any ideas, guys, on how I can fix this situation. Is there a tool to control the CPU fan speed from user-space? What about ACPI? Sensors? The laptop is a nice piece of hardware but the fan noise is killing the whole user experience.

I have no Linux experiences, but you could try and search for an Linux alternative of the program notebook hardware control (NHC) or get it to work using wine.
Also have tried to look for any fixes or patches, but only found for other notebooks.
Maybe some Linux forums could give you a more precise answer than me.

While a better monitor is always, well.....better...I'm not sure that's going to solve your problem. The issue appears to be one of color management, particularly monitor calibration. I would strongly advize investing $25 and taking a one month membership at lynda.com. There you can check out some excellent video training on this subject (and many others).
My experience is that to get anywhere close to matching prints to what you see on screen, be prepared to spend a couple of hundred bucks on calibration software and hardware. I opened this can of worms a couple of years back and it took a while to get my head around the concepts of color spaces, gamuts, soft proofing, hardware profiles etc. etc. But it was worth it in the end. I'm certanly no expert, but I have a much clearer idea of what's going on with my prints color-wise. Screen-to-print is still not an absolutely perfect match (is anyone's?), but close enough for my purposes (weddings, events, portrait photography).
I looked into getting a better monitor, but my research tells me that if I'm paying much less that $1500, the result may not be much better than what I've got (an old View Sonic GS771, a snip at $20 !!).
Seriously, lynda.com, you can't go wrong. Best money I ever spent.

Touch on non-primary external monitor controlling primary external monitor

SP3i5 connected to two external touch monitors (AcerT232HLs) via minidisplay on dock to hdmi on monitor2 and minidsply to hdmi on monitor3 and usb3s from dock to each monitor. SP3 is monitor1. Displays work fine. Touch works fine.
HOWEVER, touch on monitor2 control monitor3 display. monitor3 is set as the primary monitor. I get that this is NOT a bug since each monitor is in effect two device (display and touch) AND since most touch input devices WOULD want to control
the primary display.
So either there is a setting somewhere to explicitly redirect the touch on monitor2 away from the primary and TO display of monitor2 or there is a driver issue.
In W8.1 I believe there was a setting as part of the 'touch tablet' settings where you would monitor by monitor go through a click process to say that the touch should control the display on its own monitor. I can't find that in w10 (maybe it's all
supposed to happen automatically? or maybe it just hasn't been gotten to yet?)

Yesterday I found the same problem. I disconnected from a Dell Projector and then later that night I noticed that my computer still showed two monitors. I'm still able to connect to an external monitor and it will detect it. However, immediately after disconnect the phantom display is back.
A little annoying because I'm always having application windows open on that phantom display.
Also I noticed that when I plugged into the projector the color was off significantly, as if there was a bad connection. I tried a variety of connectors and connected my laptop to a variety of different external monitors and all of them work flawless except for the Dell Projector. (I didn't try it on another projector because I only have the one.)
My conclusion is somehow when I disconnected from the projector I hadn't fully shut down or gone to sleep or my computer was in the middle of a disconnect when I closed the lid and this interruption as my computer transitioned from 2 displays to 1 created the phantom display. Hope to see a solution to this.

Dual Monitor Control

I recently bought PB G4 1.67. I needed software or utility to control my PB screen and external Monitor (Dell 20"). Right now I am able to use both of the displays by dragging the window to the external monitor. I am looking for software that would display menu on both the screen depending on what application window I have on the screen i.e. Safari, Firefox...
I have a software call UltraMon for PC, witch I love.
Is there a software or utility like UltraMon for OS 10.4.3
I have searched on this forum and on the web, I could not find it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
