Monitor fades grey from top to bottom and must restart

Over the past two weeks my Mac has been acting up. I will be working in CS2 and while searching for a file to open through one of the apps my monitor fades to grey. It starts top to bottom like a slide. I can still see my open windows, but they are behind this grey window and then a message comes up in four different languages saying that I must restart by holding down the power bottom. What is going on? I have not downloaded anything recently. Do I have a virus? HELP!

Welcome!
You're having a kernel panic.
It is often hardware related,
so after you've read the articles I've linked below,
start by unplugging all your peripherals except the keyboard & mouse and start testing.
Bad RAM can also cause these.
You should get it taken care of ASAP.

  • Can I typeset Chinese in InDesign CC? The text goes from top to bottom and right to left.

    Hi!
Can I typeset Chinese in InDesign CC? I have downloaded the Chinese version of InDesign CC, but couldn't get the text to go from top to bottom and right to left. Do I need to download some sort of plug-in for this type of work?
    Thanks!

There's little to nothing Adobe Reader can do about this.
The free Adobe Reader cannot create PDF, cannot export PDF page content and cannot manipulate PDF page content.
What is "on" a PDF reflects what was "printed" to PDF from back in the authoring file.
It is within the authoring file where you must make adjustments.
A related "source" issue is what label stock is specifically supported by the authoring application.
While all vendors claim their stuff is alway the same as your stuff that is often not the case.
A 1/64 th of an inch or less difference will put a wooden shoe in the works.
    Be well...

  • Cp6 - effects (how to fade in from top to bottom?)

    Hello all,
I am attempting to simulate an effect I often used in Lectora. I used this effect on text bullets where the text would slowly appear (fade in) one line at a time from top to bottom.
Is there a similar effect in Captivate 6. I gave up looking for it.
Also, has anyone bothered to catalog and demonstrate all the effects available in Captivate 6? If not, perhaps I will take on this project next month.... seems worthwhile.
    Thank you,
    Shawn

Thank you for your response Lieve.

    They didn't change in CP6
You have to make each line a separate Text container (caption or smart shape) and apply the effect on each line, stagger them on the timeline

    The list is great...
I suspected that was the only way. That is far too much work for all the bullets that I would like to animate. I'll have to do without.
    But I appreciate your post.

  • Fade from top to bottom

i'm creating a menu in Motion and the menu will run 60 seconds in that time a want an object thats in my menu to fade from full opacity to nothing, sounds easy but i want this to fade out from top to bottom over 60 seconds. I understand the keyframe side of it but trying to figure out how to fade from top to bottom. Thanks

Create a gradient that is white to white. Put a ramp parameter behavior on th color at one end to fade it down to black. Add another ramp behavior for the other color only have it start half way thru your timeline. Then use that gradient as a luminance mask.

  • I just jazzed up my 2 Ghz iMac with 10.6.8, and 4 gigs of memory. I'm VERY happy with the results (fast!), but now I have a thin yellow line way over on the right side of the screen, which goes from top to bottom. This is really strange! Any input?

I'm VERY happy with the results (fast!). However, the really strange thing is this - there is now a thin yellow line, way over on the right side of the screen, which goes from top to bottom, and stays there no matter where I go or what I do. I've never seen anything like this! It was not there before I did the upgrades. Anyone out there ever heard of such a preposterous thing ~ or have any ideas on how to get rid of it?

    Hello Mark,
It's going to mean a lot of reading but you should study the 'More like this' legend to your post's immediate right.  >>>>>>>>   plus some of the links within each.
The problem is well explored with much guidance on what to do and where to go.

  • International warranty: face glass with hairline crack across the face: My local icenter says that if the hairline crack was from top to bottom then it would be covered by the warranty

    Hi
I have been to my local icenter in Malta because of a hairline crack across the face of my newly purchased iphone 5c. They say that it will only fall under the warranty if the crack was from top to bottom and not across. Is this correct?
    Thank you

Did you contact your carrier about that? Your carrier will service the phone for you in Malta, and they can probably tell you more about that problem.

  • My PC has blue screened twice in the past week so I force quit it it came back on a few times after that it is now grey screening with inch wide blue lines from top to bottom the apple logo is there and it is trying to boot up but nothing happening

My Mac has blue screened a couple of times this week it started to work a couple of times after that but now it is grey screening with inch wide blue lines from top to bottom the apple logo is also there it is trying to boot up again but won't. Not sure don't know anything about how to fix things but I suspect the fan has stopped working as I can't hear one. The problem I have I now live in Turkey and I am 1000 km from the nearest apple shop which is in Istanbul I believe and I now live in Didim, Altinkum I don't trust the everyday Turkish shop to take it to as they will tell you they know how to fix it but will probably make it worse, typical in Turkey. Please can someone help as we use it for our business and obviously I need it up and running ASAP I am using IPad and iPhone at moment but can't access my files which are on PC.

    Thanks for that information!
I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!

  • I opened my brand new MacBook Pro the other day and noticed a straight green line from top to bottom near the center of the screen. What is it from and how do I get rid of it????

I am having a problem with my brand new MacBook Pro. After opening my laptop the other day I noticed a straight green line from top to bottom near the center of the screen. What is this from and how do I get rid of it? It is most annoying. Please Help!

"What is this from and how do I get rid of it?"
Such symptoms bode serious hardware issues and you shouldn't think about fixing it yourself when you are still in waranty. Get to an Apple Store, like the other poster suggests.

  • Scrolling is very slow and looks like it's re-rendering from top to bottom on each scroll.

After downloading Firefox 4, scrolling isn't work well. Each time I scroll up or down, the page looks like it's re-rendering by wiping from top to bottom. Takes about 2 seconds to so before I can scroll any further. There's no smoothness to scrolling like there was in the past.
I tried downloading new graphics drivers, but that didin't fix the issue. I tried checking "smooth scrolling" in advanced options, but that made it worse.

Update the video display driver to the latest version.

  • 2 vertical lines, running from top to bottom, have appeared on my screen

2 vertical lines, running from top to bottom, have suddenly appeared on my screen. On a white back ground they appear blue and green. they have a wide space between them. I switched off and on but they are still there. Whats happening?

You don't say what model Mac you have (iMac I assume) or OS version, but it's probably an LCD problem. Do you have access to another monitor? If it doesn't show up on the external monitor, it's your iMac monitor and not the video card. If it shows up on the external, it's the video card. Do you have AppleCare?

  • Left & Right Margin from Top to Bottom

    Friends,
I want Left & Right Margin (Line)  from top to bottom even if there is a single item in the Repetitive area. Problem is that when there are less items there is always a gap between Repetitive Area/End of Report & Footer.

    Hi,
We have also tried to the same requirement.  But we can't.
Only one thing we can do is, the end report can be set at the bottom with the property of "Align to bottom".  But the Horizonal, vertical lines and grid not fills from the last item to end of report beginning.
I think this is most required to view the document perfectly or neatly.
Particularly in indian localization this is the must since the customer need to be declared the specific neat format to the legal departments.
Hope SAP Support should solve the issue.  But I am wondering this question has been posted many times by many people but unfotunately nobody I think get the solution.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • White space connected from top to bottom

I have a white space from top to bottom, but it does not reach the bottom at the Iphone-view. How can I fix this, I want the white space always form top to bottom.
    www.doormode.nl

OK that makes more sense.  Vertical sounded like the 11" direction and it is hard to imagine a defect that would cause a repeating issue in that direction.
For this case I would suggest the troubleshooting steps shown here.

  • X220 dead pixels from top to bottom

I have had my X220 Tablet for 18 months (purchased November 2011), my one year warranty expired (received no notification it was going to expire back in Nov 2012) but had no problems at all during these 18 months.
Now, I just turned it on today (July 3rd, 2013) and had a vertical blu-green line from top to bottom at 18.5mm from the left side of the screen. I figure a whole line of pixels of one color (red) had gone off, so it is not a single pixel, it is a whole line.
I use this convertible tablet about 20% of my time, my workhorse is provided by my workplace (a Dell convertible tablet).  So I was surprised that with so little use the screen has gone bad so soon, and just six months after warranty has expired, and it seems it may get worse.
I also thought when I purchased it that the screen was LED, then found that it is a LCD with a LED backlight.
Is the only solution to replace the IPS screen (it's has a multitouch panel)? or is there a software or BIOS solution?
And if the solution is the replacemente, approximately how much the replacement screen costs?
    Any help, suggestions are appreciated.
