Monitor has black sploches on it...

I have an I book G4 and the screen has 3 football looking black sploches about 1.5 inches x 2 on it. It looks like the screen is cracked, but it is not.
can you tell me what it is and how I can fix it. Is this the end of my trusty G4?

I rechecked my AOC and it's actually 22" with 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz, which is what I have me settings at.

  • Satellite A100-646 and external monitor shows black screen

    Hello to everybody,
I have a similar problem with A100-646 (bought in Italy). Laptop's LCD and external monitor shows black screen but system boots without other problem. When laptop is not used for a long time (half a year) it work for one week without any problem.
Unfortunately, there is no proper service in a place where I live. Perhaps, there is a problem with power supply.
Is there other idea? Does anybody have a service manual? ([email protected])

It is not easy to find shop where you can order original and new hardware components.
Best source for such parts is definitely eBay where you can buy used but well working components.
Upgrade? You must know that upgrade on mobile computers is not the same as on desktops. Cooling possibilities are not the best and each notebook model has optimized cooling system for original parts. So new graphic card can be more powerful and produce more heat and it is definitely not good for your notebook. So best thing you can do is to replace it with original part.

  • I turn my iMac on and it starts ok but after a minute the monitor goes black

I turn my iMac on and it starts ok but after a minute the monitor goes black, sometimes it comes back on sometimes it stays off, this has only happened since Apple replaced the hard drive.

Then, contact the Apple repair station that did the work.

  • Satellite L - LCD monitor flashing black after desktop loads

My LCD monitor has started flashing black at startup. It doesn't do it if I log off and log back in, only on startup. I can log in, the desktop loads and everything looks normal then after about 7 seconds everything goes black, then the taskbar quickly appears then disappears and then the desktop becomes visible again momentarily but goes black again. It repeats this very fast two or three times then starts normally.
Everything seems to be working fine otherwise. I disabled my antivirus so it wouldn't startup but that didn't help. I've done some registry cleaning lately so I restored everything back to well before this started and that didn't help either. I've done a lot of installing and uninstalling of software lately but can't pinpoint anything that might have caused it. This computer is about 2 years old. I have Vista 32 bit, service pack 2.
Anyone ever seen this before or have any ideas what the culprit might be? Really appreciate any advice.

OK, I connected a CRT monitor from another computer and it basically did it too. As the laptop screen was flashing off and on, the CRT screen went black and then came back on when the laptop went back to normal.
I think my graphics card is Intel Display Driver 7.15.10.1502. Does that sound right? I checked for an update through the Device Manager and it said no update is available. The same version is the only one listed at the Toshiba Downloads page. It's included with my Toshiba Application Installer so I'm tempted to uninstall/reinstall, but I'm afraid if it doesn't automatically install at at startup I won't have a monitor. Any advice on this or anything else is appreciated.

  • Mini ppc w/ beachball problem and attached monitor going black frequently

I am seriously considering replacing this mini. I believe as the poster yesterday concluded that the hard drive in this mini is on the verge of quitting. Reference beachball problem everytime any entry is made. I completely reformatted with zero overwrite and slowness was not cured. Drive is only about 30% of capacity. The attached monitor goes black (not to sleep) this will happen while data is being entered periodically many times a day. The monitor behaves perfectly when connected to another mini with same cables. I think there may be a video output problem. This unit is in a high demand area for making appointments, so I think it is time to replace although I don't want to because of software issues. I looked at external firewire comments, but so far I can't find the drives that will support being start up drives and the video out problem is still an issue. I have also thought of bringing my PPC iMac flat screen from home and upgrading at home, but it is 4-5 years old and I don't want to do this again in 6 months. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks

Have you run the Apple hardware test on it? Or if you have Applecare, the TechTools Deluxe test? To run the Apple hardware test, insert the first OS X disc that came with the system, which should say 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label. Reboot, holding the option key down. Choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow pointing to the right, and follow directions. Does it identify any issues?
If you click the blue Apple, and about this mac, does the memory show what it should be? If there were a memory issue with the RAM strip, where you were only getting reduced memory, that could contribute to the issues you're seeing.
A number of people with slowing systems, with frequent beach balls, have used OnyX to clean up their system, which has made a performance difference. You can get it from http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html . Run the activities on the maintenance and cleaning tabs, which may require a reboot. Does that help?
One other thought, which is a stretch ... did you upgrade to 10.4.11 through the software update function or by installing the combo update? If by software update, you might want to download the combo version, and install it after you use OnyX. Repair permissions, install it, and repair permissions again, using Disk Utility. It's located at http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosx10411comboupdat eppc.html

  • Widescreen has black bars top and bottom

Imported a widescreen DV file into FCP5, rendered it, looks widescreen in the canvas but has black bars which are always exported. But I want to end up with a DVD that is full screen/widescreen when viewed on a widescreen TV or LCD monitor. How to get that and get rid of black bars?

In the menu bar: go to Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup. Choose DV-NTSC Anamorphic. Click OK.
Go to Sequence > Settings > Load Sequence Preset and click OK.
Right click your clip in the Browser and choose Item Properties > Format. Click next to Anamorphic in the clip column to place a checkmark. Click OK.

  • Laptop monitor stays black with Windows but not with Ibuntu

Can someone tell me why my daughter's Compaq laptop has no video, monitor is black, in Windows Vista but works fine with Ibuntu?  The service shop said it is a bad video card but wouldn't that apply to the computer and not work in either operating system.  I keep trying to repair it in Vista but this has me really puzzled.  If it works with one OS shouldn't it work with the other?

    Hello, @cliftram
I see that the screen is black on your daughters notebook. That you've installed another OS and it was working. I will try to help you with this.
The short answers to your questions, would you're right.
"wouldn't that apply to the computer and not work in either operating system" - Yes, if the issue was a faulty graphics's card neither OS would work.
"If it works with one OS shouldn't it work with the other?" -- same answer as above.
What this indicates, is there's an issue on the Windows side.
As i'm on sure where the black screen occurs, but try booting into Safe Mode. If you can do this, then something may be going on with the OS or driver.
If you got into safe mode, try a clean boot first. Restart and try starting up normally. If this works an application on the computer is causing the issue. If to doesn't try, using the HP Recovery Manager to restore all the drivers on the notebook. (if your model doesn't have this, pleas let me know).
If you cannot even boot into Safe Mode, the only option left (if you haven't tried it), is a System Recovery (for the Windows side). Make sure you back up prior to doing this.
Let me know what you're able to do.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Monitor stays black

Since I have bought my 17"PB I had, once a while, colored horizontal stripes all over the monitor. When using the mouse the stripes dissapeared. Two days ago this happened quite often, but still I worked and switched off my PB as usual.
Yesterday I tried to switch on my PB - but after a short moment of displaying (at startup), the monitor went black. I waited and closed the monitor to set it to sleep. After waking it up again, the monitor went for about 1 second to normal, but then black again. This is reproducable. The same reaction is also when only the monitor wents into standby mode and I wake it up again.
Now I have connected my PB to an external monitor to use it and to save all my data.
I noticed, that the monitor, when looking very closely, is displaying. But the brightness is by far not high enough to see the picture.
Also the apple logo at the back of the monitor is not switched on.
Does only a repair help, or is any other trick known?
Any "trick" is welcome, as I'm far away from any apple dealer!

Hey Michael, I totally feel your pain. I have been dealing with this annoyance for sometime. When it happens I usually close and open over and over, just hoping that it'll stay on. It usually never does. When my laptop goes on that downward cycle I just have to restart.
I have setup custom power settings so my computer never goes to sleep. I use this when I must have my computer stay on.
Other than that I have just been dealing with it. I know apple had a screen/driver update for the 17" a week ago, but it didn't seem to help 100%. My worst case of this annoyance actually came right after the update! But now two weeks after the update it seems to do alright.
ONE thing for certain though. If the battery is low, that is usually when it is the worst. When I am working I usually only get about an hour or two of battery time, so sometimes I forget to plug it in. This is when I have had the worst time trying to get my screen to come back on. So I would let it charge for a couple of minutes or so then come back to it. Then it would usually stay on.
I don't know if that has helped?

Has anybody received this error message: ASI Eve CL Monitor has encountered a problem and need to close?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Don't know

I don't think this is a Firefox problem. I have the same error message and I get it regardless of whether I'm using Firefox or another browser.
In checking [http://www.whatsrunning.net/QueryProductID.aspx?Product=16854] it is a file owned by Microsoft. I suggest you check your registry for errors.

  • Why is it that when I plug my Macbook Pro to an external monitor, the external monitor turns black and shows the mouse only

Why is it that when I plug my Macbook Pro to an external monitor, the external monitor turns black and shows the mouse only

Hi, yes preferences sees there is a second display it recognises what make of monitor it is etc but I just get a blank blue screen on the monitor when I change it to the hdmi setting! I have tried with mirroring on and off, rearranging the displays in the preference window and lots of different resolution settings but with no difference.
An old MacBook connects fine so the monitor and hdmi port must be okay. I'm sure we have used the cable before but it could have been with the previous MacBook Air. The current one I'm using is a mid 2011 version running lion and is (according to software update) all up to date.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!
