Monitor ICC profile supported with Adobe Reader?

Hi, I know Reader supports reading of input ICC color profiles like in embedded pictures (sRGB, Adobe RGB, etc.), but it seems it doesn't support outputting to the monitor's ICC profile. Is there a way to do this? I have used Reader 8 and 9. I need to properly preview the files, and sometimes print them.

Adobe Acrobat's latest version can run on 10.5.8, given the constraints listed on http://www.adobe.com/products/reader/tech-specs.html.
You can upgrade to Mac OS X 10.7.4 if all your software and hardware meets the requirements.
Acrobat 8.1 is the version designed by http://www.adobe.com/ as both PowerPC Mac and Intel Mac
compatible around the same time as 10.5 was released.

Have you tired another browser?
Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera or Safari will all work with Windows 7, and they will give you far less trouble than IE or AOL will.
Firefox has a built in PDF viewer that's less than perfect, but it works.
On a personal note: I worked for AOL ten years ago. AOL mail (what most people use AOL for) is now a FREE service for ANYONE, so if you have their software installed I'd recommend removing it: you don't need it. If you have a paid account with them, I'd cancel it. You're getting NOTHING AT ALL for a monthly fee that isn't available on their website at absolutely no cost to you.
Also, I just spent an entire day last week reloading an office computer for my brother because Internet Explorer allowed a virus from a page that the other browsers don't allow access to. Internet Explorer is "the problem child" of Internet Browsers, and since AOL uses a seven year old version of Internet Explorer for its built-in browser, you'll find little difference between the two.
Try another browser and see if the problem persists. If it does we'll look at Reader as a cause, but I'd venture an aducated guess it's your browser.

Monitor ICC Profiles

Greetings Adobe People!
I've been working with Photoshop since version 6.0, I know people quite often use that as bragging rights and I guess, that's what I'm doing, please forgive mefor doing so. Just trying to state in some term that I think I'm somewhat wise in a few of the ways of :Photoshop. I've read a few books here and there about what I should do for monitor ICC Profiles, I have a Gretag Macbeth, Eye-One Display 2 and I use it to calibrate my laptop and desktop monitor every couple of weeks. I stumbled upon an old picture I had made for some friends in CS2 I believe, a few years back, when I didn't have my Gretag and I was *GASP* calibrating my monitor using Adobe Gamma! When I load the psd file the colors are vibrant and stunning, when I load the associated jpg the colors are dull and extremely muted. Now I'm using Adobe RGB 1998, we could go on all day about sRGB and Adobe RGB and the slew of others that are out there, but at the end of the day it's really just personal preference, much like football fans or people who bicker over why X sports car is better than Y road car, what I'm asking is just keep it to your self if you don't mind doing so. If I select the most recent of my monitor profiles the colors return to there natural glory in both the jpg and the psd file, but I've heard for printing you need to have your RGB set to either sRGB or Adobe RGB 1998 and then print from your printer profile... When I do go to print I've got it down to a pretty good science of getting things done, so it doesn't take me too long to do it and I really don't pay too much attention anymore as to what I'm doing. I could go through the steps here, but I'm sure those that are familiar with it, know what I'm talking about. So all of this typing is leading to this, is it ok to just use my monitor profile for my main profile or should I stick with Adobe RGB 1998 and if I stick with Adobe RGB 1998, how can I get the muted colors to show up like they do in the psd file for the jpg file. Keep using your EyeOne to calibrate, but don't use that monitor profile as a working space. That's not what it was designed for. Stick with the sRGB or Adobe RGB as your working space. As to your legacy file, this is where the Assign Profile can come into good use. Try using Assign Profile to find the working space that makes your old file looks its best. Then you can either leave it in that space or convert to your preferred working space. As to printing, it won't make a hell of a lot of difference whether you use Adobe RGB, sRGB or something else. It's more important that you've properly calibrated and that you are using a good (preferably custom) printer profile while printing.

Installation Issue with Adobe Reader 11.0.03.

I am having issue getting Adobe Reader XI to install onto a machine and needing help resolving it. The machine itself meet and exceed the requirement for the installation. There was a previous version of it installed, but was remove via Group Policy and now it is being deploy via SCCM 2012. So far out of 100+ machines all have successful installed adobe reader XI through the new deployment, except one. Problem opening pdf files with Adobe Reader in Windows 7

I bought a new Dell (Inspiron 5110) with pre-installed Windows 7 Home Premium (Version 6.1 SP1, 64 bit) and pre-installed Adobe Reader X (10.1.1). I cannot open ANY of my old pdf files with the Adobe reader (even after I re-installed the Adobe Reader). On another computer with Windows 7 I get the same error message. When I installed several other pdf-readers (Sumatra, Foxit, ..) I can still not open the pdf's -- but all the pdf's still open under Windows XP on my old computer and they also open on all my colleagues' non-Windows 7 computers. So it appears to be a Windows 7 problem. The Adobe error message says 'Adobe Reader could not open _.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (…..).
N.B.: I can download pdf files from the internet and can then open these 'new' pdf files with Adobe Reader X.
N.B.2.: Most of the 'old' pdf files are scientific articles downloaded from various journal websites 2002-2011, so their quality should be out of question.
N.B.3.:I've transfered the files via memory stick and portable HD.
N.B.4.: If I try to open the pdf's via 'Open with' the problem remains the same.
N.B.5.: When, on my Win7 Dell, I've uploaded/attached one of these old pdf files to an email the rtecipient could not tead it. But he could read it when I'd sent the same file from my old Win XP computer.
N.B.6.: I have repeated this last observation: When I upload an old pdf file on my Win7 Dell to my email account and then send it to myself, I cannot open/read it on my Win XP (nor on the Dell, of course). Although the file size is precisely the same.
N.B.7.: When I download a new pdf on my Dell, then upload/attach it to an email also on the Dell and send it to myself, I can download and read the attached pdf on both computers.
Would be grateful for any suggestions.

This is really strange.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I can understand, any PDF which is launched on your Win 7 OS fails to open, even though the same file works perfectly fine on your Win XP machine?
Could you please run a full system anti virus scan on the said PDFs that are present on your local system. It could be a case of infected PDFs.
Also, it would be great if you could try and download some of the erroneous PDFs from the web again, and see if you experience the same behavior.

Will Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Standard Work With Adobe Reader 8.2.4?

I have a question, but haven't found an answer to this yet.
Can anyone tell me please: Will Adobe Acrobat 8.0 Standard work with Adobe Reader 8.2.4?
I had Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard on my computer & it was working with Adobe Reader 8, but don't remember what the version it was.
I was using Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard to scan very old family pictures & documents & I realize that this version of Acrobat is outdated.
To make a long story short, my computer had crashed, so we built another computer & just replaced the hard drive. When I went to Adobe, I had to download the newer version of Reader 9.0 & it didn't work with Acrobat 6.0., so I removed Adobe Reader 9 & I found Adobe Reader 8.0 & have downloaded the patches, so now I have Adobe Reader 8.2.4 back on board.

Adobe doesn't recommend any version of Reader with any version of Acrobat on Windows. It will cause problems. It just is a matter of how and when. The problem has to do with shared resources causing conflicts. If you have Acrobat 8, you can update it to Acrobat 8.2.4. You must apply the updates sequentially.

How to fix problem with opening pdfs in Windows 8.1 with Adobe Reader XI?

Every time I try to open a pdf on my new laptop with Adobe Reader XI, I get a message than either the file is not supported or its damaged. But it still opens fine on my old laptop with Windows 7.
Any suggestions?@

Hi. Thanks for taking the time to answer. Upon further investigation, it appears that the original pdfs I was transferring from my old computer to my new one were “grayed out” on the flash drive, so they wouldn’t open on the new laptop. When I went back and reloaded the pdfs again, they weren’t grayed out, and now everything’s working fine. But again, thanks so much for making the effort to help. I really appreciate it.

Can no longer digitally sign PDF's with Adobe Reader 9

On our government network some of us have been upgraded to Adobe Reader 9 but now we can no longer digitally sign some PDF files.
People with Adobe Reader or Pro 8 can. Here is a link to one of the documents:

The document security shows as "Digital signing allowed" in Adobe Reader 8 but "Not allowed" in Adobe Reader 9.
Is there something wrong with Adobe Reader 9 or something we need to change?

I cannot say for sure, but some of the technology the government uses (like the IRS) uses older technology that is no longer support in version 9. For example the IRS tax forms cannot be fillied in and saved using Reader 9. My bet your seeing a similar problem. There is no workaround. You will need to go back to Reader 8 or get Acrobat 9 Pro or Standard.

Firefox 17.0.1 on my Mac OSX 10.7.5 will no longer work with Adobe Reader 11.0.0. What shall I do to fix it ?

When I try to read a page with Adobe Reader I get the following message:
Adobe Reader cannot show documents in this browser.
Why is that ? It occurer a short period ago, and prior to that I have had no problem.
I have no problem when I use Safari - but normally I prefer Firefox.
So, please help me - and tell me what to do.

You can disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.

I tried with options create bookmarks as word bookmarks but that also not supporting in adobe reader 10/11.
Please let me know how we can create bookmarks while exporting MS word to PDF.
And when we are opening pdf in IE with search parameter,its always opening PDF with 2 document on left serach panel.

When I open a document in Firefox with Adobe Reader 9, I am unable to print it (no problem when using Internet Explorer)

I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit), using Firefox 8.0. When I open a document with Adobe Reader 9, I am unable to do anything with it (print, save, etc.) other than view it. When I use Internet Explorer I don't have this problem.

Not sure what you mean by truncated troubleshooting report, but here's what I copied from "troubleshooting" under "help". My printer is selected as the default printer in Devices and Printers. Also, remember that a document that won't print in Firefox prints fine in Internet Explorer.

Ink-management with Adobe Reader

Hi,
I encountered a problem on printing a larger document with Adobe Reader lately, when I noticed after a while that the colour ink cartridges got almost all absorbed in the process of printing although the document was only black and white, and no colours used in it. On looking more closely to the printed document the characters appear to be slightly brownish or light black instead of pitch black.
With other software like i.e. Word I had never noticed any such problem. According to the Canon support this must be clearly a problem of the used software, and by no means the Canon driver or the Mac OS X (10.6.2).
If so is there any possibility to tell Adobe Reader (latest version 9.3.1) how to manage the printer´s ink in the printing process, that is to say printing black and white only?

I would think you should be able to change that in the print dialogue of your printer. As for the free Reader, it can do very little beyond reading PDF documents, so I wouldn't expect it to include any such option.

Xcelsius 2008 pdf cannot be opened with Adobe Reader 8.2

Using Xcelsius SP3 , I have exported a dashboard to Adobe9 (pdf 1.8).
When I tried to open this pdf with Adobe Reader 8.2, getting the error like "This file appears to use a new format that this version of Acrobat does not support."
How can I resolve this issue?

Since the last couple of days I have trouble opening Xcelsius pdf format 6 in ADOBE Reader 8.2 latest fix
It was fine last week but I have updated the 8.2 reader to the latest version and now it doesn't work.
It seems to be the same crash with the version 9.2 of the reader

2nd Monitor ICC profile in Acrobat 9

Hi,
I have problem with iMac24" dual monitor setup and Acrobat 9 Pro. I can't get the second monitor ICC profile applied to the pdf document when dragged to the the second monitor. Had the same problem with PhotoShop CS4. I spent several day to figure out why the second monitor looks totally over saturated with PS CS4 (looked fine with PS CS3) and yes indeed the solution was to turn OFF OpenGL in PS preferences. Still have the same problem with Acrobat 9 Pro. When the document is dragged to other monitor the ICC profile of that monitor is not applied. Any idea how to get that working as I can't find the OpenGL setting in Acrobat 9 . I have iMac24" and HP LP2475w as a secondary monitor which is wide gamut monitor which is far too over saturated without proper ICC. Any ideas?

Does the secondary monitor always assume it will open in the monitor which WinXP defines in settings as '2'?
The reason I ask, is that if I have the secondary monitor open as "full screen" it opens on the 2nd monitor.
However, I have a slightly different set up. I have my primary LR space stretched some into the 2nd monitor, so that the right hand panels are on the second screen. This gives me a larger space to view the images on the main screen. When I open the secondary LR space, it is not full screen, but sized to just fit in the rest of the available space on the second monitor....and I usually use this space for the 'grid' of thumbnails.
My concern is that if the secondary LR space is even slightly larger than the available space on the secondary monitor, it will pop up in the middle of the primary monitor. After much trial and error, I found the sizing solution and it works....
However, since it seems to open either in #1 or #2 screen, I still have this nagging question....and there is no way I know to query LR to know what ICC profile is being used.

Problem printing patterns with Adobe Reader 9

Hello all
We have a mix environment of Windows 7/Vista with Adobe Reader 9.2 and Windows XP/2k with Adobe Reader 8.1.7. Documents including charts with patterns created with the option Save as PDF from Word 2007(SP2) look and print fine with Adobe Reader 8, but the same documents look and print the patterns a lot more compressed with Adobe Reader 9. All computers print to the same printers with the same print drivers (a windows print server). Attached is a sample PDF file. I've installed Adobe Reader 9.2 also on Win2k and WinXP computers with the same results, so the problem doesn't come from the OS.
Any idea on what's wrong with Adobe Reader 9? Is it a configuration problem or defaults changed in Adobe Reader 9?

You need to use Adobe Acrobat; Adobe Reader does not support editing.
