Monitor image burn in

I opened a word document for about an hour and now my monitor has a slight burned in image of my desktop icons and a faint image of the window that was open for editing. I have Windows8 and the monitor is a Pavilion 23xi LED. The system is about a year old. The faint image is more like the old CRTs used to get on them. I see the image on the Win8 start screen which has a dark background but I do not see it on the traditional desktop background partially because the icons are visible anyway. The product is out of warranty, I think. Any suggestions?

  • Not image burn - but a weird discoloring...

I had a slight bit of image burn on my 23" LCD yesterday, but it seems to have gone away (thank goodness)...
However, up along the top, there is something that looks like a.... a blob shaped thing running down from the top of the monitor. Almost looks like a large drip...
It is possible that someone here might have cleaned the monitor at one point with a wet cloth (before I got to tell them to NOT do that...).... is it possible that that could have "stained" my monitor?
Would a lot of pressure - i.e. pushing down while cleaning - cause something like that?
    Thanks,
    Jon

I had noticed some odd ghosting of my finder windows while playing WoW some time ago. I noticed it again tonight and started investigating... The burn-in is mostly gone after a restart and clearing my desktop of windows/icons and trying various desktop pics/colors to investigate it. Mostly. I still have a narrow band, on the left-most edge, where I can still see some sort of ghosting. It's wider at the top... When I restart, I can see a very clear ghosted image of the apple icon.
This was the first similar report that I saw... I'm going to dig a little more to see if there has been any more info on this problem.

Glad to know others are having the same issue - I have a twin pair of 23" ACDs, I run a lot of FCP and the windows of the app are getting burnt into the screens after just a few minutes use (strangely my left screen suffers from the problem far worse than the right). The burn usually 'heals' after a few minutes but if I display a peak-white frame it remains visible for hours. Awful trying to do critical work in Photoshop with these smears and shadows all over the screen - it's like staring at a lightbulb and blinking!
I love Apple kit, but everything I've bought so far has struggled to last a year before being swapped out, recalled, or serviced. My iBook had the logic-board replaced, I've had it back a month and now the backlight on the LCD is starting to flicker!!

This matches my current experience perfectly, particularly the note about the left side being worse.

  • Images burn into the screen after being there for only a few minutes?

What's wrong with my mac if images burn into the screen after being there for only a few minutes?
I can have an icon, like a folder or something, on my desktop for only a few minutes and then when I move it an image of it will be burned into the screen for another few minutes. Same thing happens with having a webpage open for a few minutes or word document. What part of my computer is malfunctioning and is Apple responsible for repairing it?

    Hi,
Does it happen on all desktops applications as well as Modern UI Apps? Since this issue only happened recently, I suspect a newly-installed third party program causes this issue, please check these programs if possible.
We can also boot into clean boot mode, test the issue.

  • Image Burn-In (still images)

Does anyone have any info/experience with image burn-in? As in where images are permantly burnt onto TV screens.
I'm doing a training DVD which will have various slideshows like a powerpoint. Some slides may be up for a while, plus there would probably be consistent elements to teach slide, like a logo. I'm just wondering if there would be much risk of causing image burn in? The training sessions would go for 90-120 min.
    Thanks
    Mike

I googled a bit for burn-in and couldn't find anything definitive on how long it takes for a CRT to burn an image in.
I think it's because it might vary depending on how old the TV is... newer TVs (as well as newer plasmas) are much more resistant to burn-in.

The one Inside Apple article states "24 hours" but I'm not sure where he gets that number.
So, I'm guessing, but I'd say you wouldn't have to worry about 2 hours of static image. If you were concerned, you could always set a menu's time-out value and have it jump after the time-out has expired to a looping video with a constantly-moving image.

  • Pixelation occurring after disc image burn

I'm having a problem with pixelation after performing a disc image burn through iDVD.  I'm filming with Sony AX-2000 cameras onto Sony Memory Sticks, and loading the footage as Apple ProRes 422.  The footage looks fine and no pixelation once loaded.  After the edit is complete, I'm exporting it as a Quicktime self-contained movie, using "current settings" like I always have in the past.  This QT self-contained movie file looks fine once complete, and there is no pixelation in it.
However, once I pull that file into iDVD, and then burn a disc image of it, I'm getting pixelation, but only in certain places.  This is BEFORE I burn the actual DVD, but the pixelation does show up on the DVD.  I'd say out of a 90 minute wedding video, there is a total of 5 minutes of pixelated footage spread out primarily over the first 30 minutes of the DVD.  I've burned the disc image twice now, and it's pixelating in the same places.
I've been using this same process for the past 1 1/2 to 2 years without trouble on all my projects, but for some reason this wedding video is getting pixelation.  I have no idea what to do and welcome any suggestions.

    A couple of thoughts:
I assume you're evaluating the DVD on a television…because computer playback often gives misleading results.
If the artifacts continue to show up in TV playback, then try some tests using Compressor and/or DVD Studio Pro. Start with a small segment that includes the problem footage, and choose the 120 minutes Best Quality DVD preset. In Encoder, open quality and goose the bit rate up until the point where  you're approaching the time limits of your video (the "allows" message provides time feedback at the bottom of the pane). In Frame Controls set Resize Filter to Best. In Preview, insert compression markers at the points where the artifacting begins. Either have Compressor spit out a test DVD as a job action or bring in into DVDSP to make a build without a menu. Evaluate.
Hopefully, you'll find the right recipe.

  • I have a problem with vertical images burned on a cd

I have a problem with vertical images burned on a cd either from a Mac or a stand alone burner. What happens is the images come from the card and are put on the cd. Also note the the camera has been set for the computer to automatically show images vertically when shot that way. The images look good on my Mac, but are horizontal on windows computers. Both XP and Vista. What can be done?

  • Image Burn????

So if I have a Sony 57" Grand Wega HD-TV that has rear projection CRT, won't I get image burn from the hard drive icon and the menu bar? If the icon was animated it wouldn't be a problem and if I could hide the menu bar until I rolled over it, I think I would be ok. Has anyone experience these problems? I like the idea of a Mac Mini as a DVR and to show photo slideshows in HD, but I don't want to risk burn in.

    Raymond,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
No real experience with burned in TV/displays but:
*Slide shows tend to hide the menu bar when viewed in full screen mode.
*You can set the "Finder preferences" to show nothing at all on your desktop.
    *Use your screensaver.
Most TV channel also have a fixed logo in the corner of your screen (at least they have here).
And you can always ask your retailer or Sony...

  • Windows 7 Disk Image Burner went away

Somewhere I lost the built-in Disk Image Burner. It no longer appears in the context menu for an ISO file. It does not appear as a selection in Default Programs, nor in Assign File Types. Where can I find it and reinstall or reactivate it? In the context
menu for an ISO file, this appears"-exit -isowrite".
    Assistance please

    Hi,
Do you have any other CD\DVD burning software installed? If so, it could be that they've associated themselves with ISO files.
I would like to suggest you try to select the ISO file, then right clicking it, then selecting "Open With" and see if Windows Disc Image Burner is one
    of the selections.
I also would like to suggest you uninstall any other CD\DVD burning software you have installed and see if it restores the Windows Disc Image Burner
    option.

  • Why are the photos i print much darker than the monitor image?

why are the photos i print much darker than the monitor image?

Please read this post then provide some details.  What printer model? What operating system? What program are you printing from?
Some programs such as Photoshop give the option to print to CMYK or sRGB color spaces.  Even though the printer uses CMYK inks the driver is expecting sRGB data.  If CMYK is selected the prints will be much too dark.
Another thing to check is the media type.  If you are printing on plain paper and have seelcted Photo paper the prints have too much ink.

  • New Photsmart Premium c410 printing darker than monitor image

I just purchased a new HP Photosmart Premium c410 and all photos come out darker or not as bright as the monitor image.  On setup it never did pass the alignment test although the test print looks good.  The print quality test print looks good with good color and seperation in the color bars and excellent sharpness in the text print.  I replaced an HP photosmart 3310 with this new one and it is not producing photo lab quality prints.  Any help?  I'm using the cartridges and hp paper that came with the printer.

Hi - I had exactly the same problem. Here is how I resolved it.
When you click print on your poc the print dialogue bo opens
go to "Properties", then to "Advanced"
you should see a menu tree that has "printer features" &, within that, "Color Management". Mine was set to :- "Color Smart" however, I changed to "Adobe RGB...... 2.2 Gamma.." - This solved the problem for me.
I hope it works for you.

  • IPad screen image burn

I've noticed lately that when ever I'm using any thurs party app weather it be Facebook or Google Earrh or even the native Safari app, upon closing said app and returning to my main "Spring board"  I notice that there is a faint image burn of the previous app at the top of the screen my the clock. The faint "image burn" is typically of the app's search box.  I've already cleared out any apps running in the background, relaunched the app that causes the image burn and force quit the app, and even restarted the device. I haven't noticed this "issue" in the past until updating to iOS 5.1.1. This isn't a major issue for me but it is still rather annoying none the less. Does anyone else have this issue? Any idea what's causing it and how to end it? Thanks.

@Jay no I have not jail broken my iPad. I was browsing and came upon this link: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1220231
Do you think that this may be what I'm dealing with? This is an iPad 2 running iOS 5.1.1 I purchased it on launch day, so I doubt that it's components could be failing on me already.

  • Image burn issue

Hi all, I am having the image burn issue on my sony vaio duo 11 like. Please check the following link for the images. In my case the burn is visible when the background is grey and I work in the desktop mode for some time. I request your feedback and help in solving this issue. http://bit.ly/11FTG08 [with comments] See the bottom. You can see Windows notification area there   You can clearly see a white navigation bar of google chrome which is opened in the desktop mode
I have taken all of these pictures with my mobile camera which is 3 years old. Otherwise the imageburn is very clear and distinct to me. Best regards,Naveen.

    kamesh419,
This is working as intended.  It is the transparent function of Aero.  If the user switches back to desktop view, you can see some of the Start Menu background.  This is not a burn in issue.
If you want you can turn off Aero and the transparent image will go away both in the Start Menu and also from the Desktop view.
    Turn off Aero
    1)      Go to the Start Menu
    2)      Type Computer
    3)      Right click on Computer and select properties
    4)      Click on Advanced System settings
    5)      Select Settings under Performance
    6)      Select “Adjust for best performance”
    7)      Click apply and ok.

  • PE2 - Timeline thumbnail renders, but monitor and burned DVD video is blank for one section. Also audio export quality question

I split a clip to get rid of a few seconds of something else, and everything looked OK. I set it rendering overnight, and this morning, I found most of the DVD was fine, but this one section at the end is black on the DVD. I went back to the project, and although the timeline looks OK with thumbnails generated, it's showing black for that same section in the preview monitor. How can I "regenerate" this clip without re-adding and making the cuts?
The video details look OK though...
    Video: MPEG2 Video 720x576 (4:3) 25.00fps 6802Kbps [Video]
Next up, seeing as I gave only one hours captured video to a whole DVD, I was wondering why the video was quite blocky.
    Then I saw the audio....
Audio: Dolby AC3 48000Hz 6ch 192Kbps [AC-3] < what the?!? This is mono video captured off an old tape, so at most it could be 44k 96k mono, not 6ch! But despite FAQ-ing myself silly, I can't see where you change the audio properties...
Help on these two would be greatly appreciated.
Before anyone asks (and they will!) why I don't upgrade, well, V2 does what I want (which is about 2 DVDs per year!) and when I tried V4 trial, on my old 3GHz PC with 3.5Gb RAM it was TOOOO slow

I found the solution to the blank error - what had happened was that when I was trying to make the background, it said "drag media here to make thumbnail" (or something) so I did, but although it didn't work, what I didn't realise was when I dragged the preview image to the thumbnail, I had actually dragged the image right off the screen! But when I did "undo", it looked OK, so I didn't notice it hadn't undone the move. If that makes sense.
As that was the last thing I did, it didn't bother checking before burning. I found this because I started a new project to convert it, and thought "well, if it plays OK here..." and started experimenting. I only saw the video offset by accident!
As for the question about Audio, I was previewing in MPC Home Cinema, but you're right. because when I preview in Windows Media Player, it appears to be OK and says Dolby 2.0
    Thanks for your help!

  • FCP 4: NTSC monitor image FROZEN/movie plays JITTERY in canvas window.

Hey guys. This started yesterday. Every time I hit play, the image from the frame I began playing at on the timeline remains frozen on my NTSC monitor, while the movie plays jittery, roughly, totally unsmoothly in the canvas window. I'm pretty sure I've tried all of Shane's answers, but right now I'm stuck. Any help is immensely appreciated.

Shane's stock answers addresses this, but make sure
that under the View mene that you are set to "All

Yeah, I had that covered from the beginning, but this sucker is stuck on whatever frame I begin to play from.

  • Error message when Saving as Disc Image & Burning

I've been getting this error message: Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets.
When I'm either trying to Burn a DVD or Save as a Disc Image. I've read all of the previous discussions and nothing is working. I have 320 GB on my computer hard drive and 8GB of memory. I'm trying to burn a Large (960x540) movie that I created in iMovie that is 12 minutes long and 169 MB. There is no logical explanation that I can find for there to be any space issues in burning or saving this file.
Also, I found something that said to delete a preferences file, repair disk permissions and restart the computer. All of which I've also tried.
How can I get this to work?
Or is there any other way to get this photo slideshow w/music onto the DVD without loss of quality? It's not a long slideshow or a large file, so I'm baffled why the quality gets so bad when I try to burn it directly to a DVD. I followed steps I found in this community that said to publish the project to the Media Browser in the Large format and then import it into iDVD. Sounded like a good idea, but now I can't get it onto the DVD because of the error message (Not enough free disk space for encoding the remaining assets).
    Thanks for any help!

    Try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
    User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
