I have a few questions about the 24" Imac. First is it capable of supporting dual monitors, such as a viewsonic that I have? Second, can I purchase pc memory for Mac's? The price apple charges for memory is absolutely ridiculous. Third, how fast do macs run? Is the Imac capable of running Final Cut Pro on it with 2 GB of memory?

ps. Can apple please, please, please upgrade their customer support? This has to be the worst functioning site that I have ever been to. It takes you 20 minutes to find out how to ask a question, and even then you ask it on user forums so it most likely isn't backed by apple. Why don't they get E-support where you can chat with an online support agent... like every other company has done.

The imac 24" supports dual monitors out of the box, you just need to buy the correct adapter. If your viewsonic is vga then get the mini-dvi to vga adapter.
You can use any memory that meets apple specs. Apples prices on their memory for the imac is very close to street. If you go 3GB then you can't be their price.
Yes, it can run FCP with 2GB easily. FCP is fianlly native and runs great ton the iMac.

I have a similar thing happening here, but on my aging iMac8,1 (3.06, 6 gigs of ram, plenty of internal and external scratch space) No wacom here, a Logitech mouse though, running via USB overdrive.
With me it's undos that are typically causing the hang, and as such, I notice it happening and don't keep clicking around. It hangs for anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes or so and then I can continue working. Once, it was happening on a document I had open for a while, once it was occurring on a file I opened, made an errant click, and hit undo. This was a 46.6 MB CMYK tif. I also had it occur while drawing a simple selection with the polygonal lasso - each time it would hang on the third click. That time, it would unhang, but then the selection would be all messed up and not display what was being selected.
Each time it happens, I see photoshop pinned at 99-100% in iStat. Doesn't seem to be related to running out of memory, as there is usually a good amount free when it's happening. I tried using the internal drive as the swap, and that didn't seem to matter.
I've been forced to go back to CS5 for the time being, but would love to see this solved. Is there any further info I could provide?

Programatically Monitoring RT Memory Remotely

Does anyone know if there's a way to monitor the memory of an RT target remotely without using RT System Manager? I've been given an RT application that appears to have a memory leak. I'd really like to set up a logging VI to watch the memory usage over time, but without that ability it's hard to get a clear picture of what's going on. I'm aware of "RT Get Memory Usage.vi" and I've used it before, but I can't use it except locally on the target, and I'd rather not log to my cRIO's flash memory if I can help it. I suppose I could write some TCP code to regularly transfer the memory usage over to a Windows application, but what if the TCP code itself is causing the memory leak?
If such a VI or function exists, I'd love to know about it, and if it doesn't exist, it would be really nice if someone at NI released one.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply. Well, it's not that I can't use RT System Manager - it's just that it's a crude tool for what I'm trying to do. What I mean by this is that I'm using System Manager to keep an eye on the memory over a prolonged period of time. System Manager is a bit awkward because, to see memory usage all the time as an "alert," I've got to set up an alert that occurs when memory usage exceeds zero. Then, all the alerts occur at regular intervals. No problem; this works well enough. To log the alerts, there's no way to set up a file and have a sort of disk-streaming setup. The only way to log alerts is after the fact. This isn't so bad, but I'm working on a lot of really large applications all the time and I regularly crash LabVIEW, and when that happens, I lose all of the memory data. (I'm not at all saying that LabVIEW is unstable; Most of the time I have great luck with it. I'm just dealing with some very complex and unusal code on a regular basis) So then, as I said, it's not that I can't use it - I'm just hoping that there's a better way.
Apparently there is a better way! After I wrote some slightly frustrated feedback to NI's product support, Mike from NI got back to me, and he said:
"There is a new feature in LabVIEW RT 8.6 that should solve your problem (logging Memory usage on an RT Target). Every RT Target now publishes its CPU and Memory usage levels as variables under the NI_SystemState process. Specifically, you can read the value of
\\target\NI_SystemState\Memory\Allocated
to see the current memory usage of your target. If you have DSC, you can bind this to a variable with logging, or you can just read and log the value yourself."
Mike, if you're reading this, I hope you don't mind my quoting you on this one, but I'm very grateful for your response and I thought I'd share the wealth. I'm not using DSC, but I did successfully retrieve the variable using LOGOS via the datasockets protocol. For those unfamiliar with the process, I've attached a screenshot.

Windows Server 2008 R2 Performance Monitor information / thresholds

Dear Users,
I have been in search for information about the Performance Monitor for Windows Server 2008 R2.
Unfortunately not with exactly what I wanted to, so I have some information but still not complete.
What I'm trying to find is a sort of table with information which counters are good to monitor to make sure the server has enough hardware available.
We are working in a virtual environment so that makes it easy to give more hardware, but this also means that there is a possibility we are handing out to much and that we need to take some hardware back.
But I find it hard to find the right information about the counters to use and with the thresholds.
I got already a lists with counters, explanation and the thresholds, but there are way more counters.
Is there anyone who could point me out to a website were I can read more information about this subject?
Because I really want to spend more time about what is using resources and if we are working efficiency.
Any other information regarding the Performance Monitor is as well welcome.

Memory - Available Mbytes

Memory - Pages/sec
Larger than 10
Page File - % Used and % Used Peak
Trend analysis on occurrence. The more often, the worse.
Network - Total Bytes/sec
Larger than 40-50% of network capacity.
Process - Working Set
Larger than 80% of total memory

Monitoring/Information of Incoming SOAP Requests

Hello
What are the possibilities for monitoring or retrieve information regarding incoming SOAP requests? I know about the CC Monitoring, but this doesn't provide me with the information that I need. More specifically, I would like to know for example the url from where a request is coming from and eventually where it fails, or basically all the information regarding the original request consuming a PI Web Service. I would assume such information would be found maybe somewhere at system level, but all the logs I've looked at don't have the information.
Can the information mentioned be found somewhere? Do I need to enable something somewhere to get more information regarding a SOAP request?

If I am not wrong such information will be available to the sender (or sender application) of the SOAP message....if an error occurs while sending the message to XI/ PI then it will be propagated back to the sender and XI/ PI wont know it

Tri monitor information non exsistant?

Hello everyone.
I was researching about using 3 22" wide screen monitors for linux and I can't seem to find any information on it..
So here I ask:
Is anyone running a tri-monitor set-up and was it a hassle to get it working?
Well I am taking the suggestions of hardware from my other post (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=55477) but, of course I will have to go SLi if i want more monitors.
Any information on the topic is welcomed. Also, it doesn't matter what size monitors you have, just as long as your running 3 of them.
I would as more questions but i can't really think of any since i havn't found and good resource of information.

Connector Monitoring Information (device ID)

Hi,
sorry if this one was already answered, couldn't find it in the forum or manual so far.
When I look at the mobility connector, every device has an ID, e.g. Appl83115LWRA4T (Normal) or HTCAnd15302c56 (Normal), which of course are iPhones and HTC devices running Android. So far so good.
Two questions on this:
1. Where does this ID come from? Nokia phones seem to have the EMEI as an ID, but I couldn't find the IDs mentioned above on the related phones anywhere.
2. Some devices log in with the ID "validate (Normal)", what does this mean? What kind of device is sending this as ID (or why does Data Synchronizer label it like this)?

DeviceId and DeviceType params are sent by device during the sync process. These params are part of the http/s request. Mobility connector saves these params for webgui. Each vendor can generate these ID and some device don't send any value.

"validate" is our default string which is used when DeviceId is not available in the request.

How to monitor java memory usage in enterprise manager

I am running sqlplus to execute a sql package, which generates XML.
When processing 2000+ rows, it will give a out of memory error.
Where in enterprise manger can I see this memory usage?

it depends a little on what you want to do. If you use the pure CCMS monitoring with the table ALTRAMONI you get average response time per instance and you only get new measurements once the status changes from green to yellow or red.
In order to get continuous measurements you should look into Business Process Monitoring and the different documentations under https://service.sap.com/bpm --> Media Libary --> Technical Information. E.g. the PDF Setup Guide for Application Monitoring describes this "newer" dialog performance monitor. Probably you have to click on the calendar sheet in the Media Libary to also see older documents as well. As the Business Process Monitoring integrates with BW (there is also a BI Setup Guide in the Media LIbrary) you can get trendlines there. This BW integration also integrates back with SL Reporting.
Some guidance for SL Reporting is probably given under https://service.sap.com/rkt-solman but I am not 100% sure.

Temperature Monitor Alert:Memory controller heatsink Results!!!

I have a question about the Memory Controller Heatsink sensor in the temparature monitor and I would appreciate it if you could shed any light in my problem.
Well it was long time since I checked my temperatures on my G5 DP 2.3 so yesterday while I was into some MP3 encoding I heard the fans making alot of noise ,not something unbearable but not the usual silence behaviour I was used to even under heavy load and with the nap off.
So because of that noise I decide to check it with the temperature monitor but nothing unusual came up except...yes you guess it the Memory Controller heatsink.
An alert came up and inform me that the temp was over 75 C/167 F.
The threshold was by default at 75 C/167 F.
Let me add that it's summer here and a hot one at 37 C and the room is not airconditioning,but it was exactly the same one year ago(June 2005)and I never came up with an alert.
Also I have no problem with the rest indications.
So what do you think is it normal or may I have a broken fan?
And finally what is the Memory Controller Heatsink?

The memory controller heatsink is shown, with the associated cooling tubes and fins, in the right-hand photo of the 'back' of the main logic board here

Air is pulled over the back of the main logic board and through the cooling fins, by the fan in a plastic housing, at 90deg to all the other fans, behind the hard drives.
This fan is called "Main Logic Board Backside" by Hardware Monitor in this ancient DP2.0 - and is showing "20%" in 22deg C room temperature. "Memory Controller Heatsink" is at 54deg C.
37deg C is above the specified max. 'Operating Temperature' of 35deg C shown here

I think it would probably be advisable to find some way of lowering the temperature of the room the G5 is in...

Cost of memory vs. speed increase

I use a mac mini at work (see info attached). It currently has 1.25GB of memory and can upgrade to a max of 2GB. The mac is running Windows XP SP2 through VM Fusion 3, as well as Snow Leopard. I have several applications from each platform that I use: On virtual PC: QuickBooks 2011; On Mac: Quark 9.2, Photoshop CS3, Word & Excel, Mail, Adobe Pro 8. I don't always have all of the programs running now, since it REALLY slows things down and may even freeze the system. I work with as few as possible, but really need to have at least QB, Quark, Mail & Word up daily. I have been told that the .75GB memory upgrade will not improve function/speed enough to warrant the cost. I'd like a few opinions if you care to give me some feedback.

Brody, Tony & Greg, I REALLY appreciate your input. While I was looking for MY (untrained) intuition to be validated, I appreciate more the added information from all of you.
Unfortunately, I'm TOTALLY a Word/Excel groupie. I've worked on them for years, and while I'm not terribly proficient in all of their features, they allow me to do what I need to do without too much hassle and without learning a new program.
Since this IS a work Mac, and I work for a small family-owned business, we haven't the funds to upgrade the Photoshop program (which is something I don't use enough to even warrant the huge expense). Beyond that, we really don't have the funds to replace my Mac right now. I was just hoping to get the opinion of others, figuring that I'd be told to get on board & "deal with it"; however, if I was given directions to possibly make the situation a little better, all the better.
Greg, I really appreciate the additional advice you provided. A $16 purchase with free shipping (my middle names in the office are linked to the words 'free' or 'cheap' since I'm the bookkeeper) is doable when compared to program or computer changes.

Won't detect full memory clock speed on DiMM 3-4

Hey guyz... got a little bit of a strange situation with my MSI K8N-F PCB 1.0 systemboard hope you can share you're knowledge on this...
I got a 2x256MB VR Kingston DDR400 Single sided ram that I installed on DiMM 1-2 and was able to read the memory clock around 200Mhz, but when I transfered the two memories on DiMM 3-4 it only reads them 185Mhz on the BIOS and which confuses me. when I checked the manual it doesn't suppose to lessen the clock speed total to 333Mhz but still should come up to 400Mhz can anyone help me with this?!?! appreciate the feedback....

try reseting the BIOS by taking out the battery for 10 minutes. try running it again at optimized defaults (that means no overclocking) in slots 3&4.

Monitoring Free memory in solaris 8

Hi,
I will like to monitor the amount of free memory in my system. I understand that as Solaris 8 implements "cyclical page cache", the value read from the "free list" column of vmstat will be much more accurate than previous version.
But when i run it on my sparc, the value is 50208KB.
But when i run Memtool 3.8.2, these are the values
Total memory:119Mb
Kernel memory:10Mb
Application:52Mb
Exe and lib :15Mb
File Cache: 33Mb
Free, file cache : 3Mb
Free, free :3 Mb
(33 + 3 + 3) =>39Mb
Can someone tell me how to reconcile the values from this 2 tools? Which is more accurate? (or is there a better method?)

Monitoring the memory being used by an external process

Dear All,
I was just writing to enquire whether there was a method of monitoring the size in memory of an external program being called via the Runtime.exec() method. I am trying to submit a program to a cluster and as I have no access to the source code of the program I am submitting I need some way of externally monitoring it's size and I was wondering whether this was possible in Java?

Thanking you in advanceYes it is but you can only monitor Enviroment specific to JAVA.If you need a solution you might look into JMX,java.lang.managent & java.lang.instrument pacakages and their is a tool called JConsole.
try to google to get more smart results.
