Monitor is blurry

I have a Pavilion 20bw which I've had for 6 months. Everything was working fine and now it's blurry - making reading a spreadsheet very difficult. I've followed all the instructions on the troubleshooting page and downloaded the new driver and it still has not solved the problem. I have an HP laptop connected to this monitor.

  • Macbook Connected to External Monitor is Blurry

I have connected my Santa Rosa MB to my 22 inch Dell monitor and chose mirror mode. The macbook detected the monitor and set the res to the monitors native resolution but the image is blurry, not all sharp like when I connect my PC to it. I'm connected via DVI, btw. Is it blurry because of limitations of the video card? Or am I missing a setting somewhere? Thanks.

Yes it is a limitation of the video card. In mirror mode you are stuck with the maximum resolution the MacBook monitor uses so that limits what the external can do. If you check your displays settings you should see both of them are at 1280 X 800 and if you try to change the external it gets funky. Or should I say mine does in Mirror mode. I always use extended mode for this reason. Much better quality picture.

  • Macbook Pro Retina External Monitor Blurry

Just got a new macbook pro retina and got it home. After getting everything transferred over from my old toshiba I connected it to my 1 month old HP external monitor and the display is blurry. I have read on many sites that this is a common problem however I can not find a solution. I am hook up from HDMI to HDMI. O don't really want to go through trial and error of different adapter for the lightning port if that will not work. I have tried different HDMI cables to no success. Any Ideas?

    Hi AO1 James,
If I understand correctly, the external monitor was blurry from the moment you plugged it into your MacBook Pro with Retina display. I would first check the resolution settings for the monitor with the "How do I select additional resolutions on my display?" section of the following article:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
If it remains blurry after selecting your monitors optimal resolution, I would use the steps under the "Reset the system" section of the article to help troubleshoot the issue.

  • Blurry Monitor Help?

My monitor goes blurry when I open the lid. It happens on ocassion and adjusts as I move my screen up and down. My lid also seem loose, could that be it? Any help?

I also experience a problem with the VX2433WM. When I attach it to my MBP via HDMI (of course via a mini-dsiplay-port-to-HDMI adapter) it does recognize the screen, but for every resolution I select the picture is cute at the edges.
Since the screen is Full HD capable (1080 p 1920x1080) there should not be an issue at alle with any resolution.
any ideas why this could be?

  • Why does my HP touchsmart 610 monitor go fuzzy or blurry once in a while?

It has only happened a few times, but my monitor suddenlbecomes blurry or fuzzy. If I reboot, it goes away. I have only had the computer for a few days.

    Hello rpangman:
Welcome to the forum. Your issue is not normal. You have a one year warranty with your new computer so contact HP Direct Sopport  on line they will help you troubleshoot the motherboard. Or set up a work order to fix. I do not know but you might be able to take it back to the store and exchange for another new one. All HP's computers come with a one year warranty you just purchase extended warranty plans.

  • Monitor flickering blacks out jolting MacBook Air and LG Monitor IPS277l

Hello everyone. Using MacBook Air and LG IPS277L and have had no issues up until today. All of the sudden my monitor goes blurry and shuts off. I dont see the little mirror box thingy available at the top of my desktop either. It's like the Macbook isn't sending a powerful enough signal to the monitor or something.
The monitor works fine with 2 other laptops. Tried display settings no luck. No updates from LG for Mac available at this time. Any suggestions?
    Thanks....

    Howdy iMWorks,
It sounds like the issue you are experiencing is only happening on your external monitor, but the video works fine on your internal display. I have a couple of thoughts as to what could be causing the issue here. First, use these troubleshooting steps to help troubleshoot the hardware, and PRAM:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
    Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
    Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
    Restart your computer.
If the issue persists, I would use the following article to troubleshoot the Safari application on the computer:
Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3230
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,

  • Macbook pro retina external monitor mouse skipping, lag problem

When I plug my macbook pro retina (Lion) into a 24" monitor through the DVI adaptor, the cursor jumps erratically every ~10 seconds when being moved. Feels like a lag and is worse with more programs running. Does not depend on mouse or mouse surface. Trackpad does it too. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • GeForce FX 5900 VTD128 gets blurry?

    hi,
two months ago i replaced my geforce 2mx with the fx5900
using it with two monitors (both crt) on windows xp sp2
i noticed that the first monitor gets blurry from time to time.
now i found out that it happens when the sun javaplugin loads (i think there more applications but this is the first where i'm 100% shure).
if i quit the browser than it goes back to normal sharp view.
it only happens on my first monitor
if i activate for example nvidia keystone, the same strange thing happens.
running a browser with an javaapplet the primary screen gets blurry, changing the resolution for example fixes the problem emideately.
i have tried different driver versions, but its always the same.
i'm not shure if it happens before i updated to servicepack 2
i hope my crappy english is not to hard to understand ;)
    ideas anybody?
    big thx ru

its the whole desktop: icons, text, the taskbar, all windows...
yes, i have adobe products installed (photoshop,illustrator..)
the same result with a clean boot (msconfig=> diagnostig, no autostart programs) and therefore no backgroundapps
    i didn't use any colorprofiles
    monitor settings are ok
also i have tried to find something in the driverdocu - nothing
now, i tested some more things.. and noticed: its the same with games..
    warhammer 40k: dawn of war
    warcraft3
    both running under d3d
maybe something about reinitializing the gpu?
the directx d3d test is to fast to notice some blurry effect
    (using directx9c)
i can't notice suche effects in openglgames ex. quake3 - maybe there isn't such a small text in there
some days ago i tried mayaPLE - seemed to work
    hm..  :(

  • Removing Display resolution

I have an odd acer monitor that gets detected as a TV. Makes sense since it connects via hdmi
In the display settings, 1080i(PAL television) 1080i(television) and 1080p(television) are available options. I have no issue with running my monitor in 1080iPal or 1080p resolution but in 1080i my monitor gets blurry.
A few games I play have issues when I'm running them in 1920x1080 mode. It seems they are defaulting to 1080i resolution instead of the others.
Is there a way to manually remove screen resolutions? I'm thinking this may resolve the problem i'm having.

I'm having the same problem after updating to 10.6.4 with my Samsung 47" LCD TV as my computer monitor. I lost the generic 1920x1080 setting now replaced with 1080i and 1080p. I simply chose 1080p and set the refresh to 60hz. Seemed simple enough.....
...however any time I load StarCraft 2 it switches to 1080i. In the settings of StarCraft it's set up for 1920x1080 but for some reason it's grabs the 1080i setting instead of 1080p. I can't figure out how to fix this- it's quite annoying to download the newest version of the OS only to "break" things that worked perfect before.
Does ANYONE have an actual solution for this other than using programs to hack the OS into locking the 1080p resolution?!

  • External Display for Macbook Pro

Hello everyone. I have a 17" 2.33GHz Macbook Pro and I am having trouble finding a good external display. I have already tried a Dell S2009W and a Dell S2209W. On both these monitors the graphics were great but the text was a bit blurry. I want to be able to operate the external as the sole display and not use the macbook display. I am looking for a 22" or 24" display. I will not be watching movies or photo editing, but text clarity is a must since I will be doing a fair bit of word processing and reading.
Can anyone explain to me why the Dell monitors had blurry text and which manufacturers I should be looking at (Gateway, Samsung, Viewsonic)?
    Thanks in advance.

I use a 22" Samsung and its working very nicely and the mirroring works perfectly, i highly suggest it

  • External display not as crisp as my Mac Mini

Hi, I recently bought a macbook.
I used to have a mac mini and hooked it up to a 19-inch LG Flatron L1950s (Resolution: 1280 x 1024, 24-bit, 16.7M colours). It looked great hooked up to my mac mini, very sharp.
Now, I've hooked it up to my macbook, and while the display looks "ok" it is nowhere near as crisp as when i had it hooked up to the mini. I feel like it should be performing better. I have it set to its native resolution, but it's just not as clear. I mean, why would there be any difference at all?
    Any ideas that might help?
    Gavin

    Gavin,
I wanted to weigh in with the same problem. My MacBook display looks crisp as all get out, but my external VGA monitor is blurry. Not unreadable, but certainly noticeable. I've tweaked resolutions, font anti-aliasing, smoothing, refresh rates, and everything else. I've also hooked my MacBook up to a LCD monitor, and the same problem exists. I am using a Mini-DVI -> VGA adapter as well. The LCD monitor I tested was inputting via it's VGA input (I know what you're thinking, "Of course it'll be blurry!", but I can hook my other laptop (Dell) up to it and it's crystal clear).
I really want to use an external display, as bending my neck to see my screen all day really is hurting me. I can't stand the blurryness of the second monitor, though.
Does anyone have any solutions for us? I don't want to buy a Mini-DVI -> DVI adapter and switch monitors to an LCD if using my existing VGA monitor is possible. Plus, it sounds like this might be a MacBook problem, as Gavin's old Mini seemed to display just fine on his VGA monitor...

What monitor?  What video card or graphics chipset does your desktop have?
Need more details.  In general, when asking for help with a computer, you need to provide details about all relevant components in the system (In this case, monitor make/model and graphics adapter information - at the very least which chipset manufacturer and preferably which chipset model, e.g. NVidia 9800GT, Intel GMA950, Intel GMA4500, or whatever.)

  • Do Adobe's PSD and AE templates make PAR a no-brainer?

    Hi -
I've read a number of articles and Posts about PAR and I've experienced output MOVs that look great on computer monitor but blurry on a TV/DVD.  I'm aware of the differences of these monitors but something in the science or math of it just doesn't sink in.  So I'd like to run thru my plan hoping someone can correct or confirm... so I can proceed with some confidence and get it right this time.  Please be aware that because I don't know WHY I'm taking certain steps - some of my questions will seem really dumb.
I have an After Effects CS3 project that will eventually output to an MOV that I will use for a DVD and YouTube (extremes of quality).
I start with an AE template for a DV/NTSC project.  The frame size is automatically 720x480.  All the footage in this project will be stills, and most are scans of forms.  The text on the forms has to be sharp and undistorted in both output formats.
Has Adobe made this a no-brainer if I religiously use the templates provided??
If I start with a blank PSD  using the video/DV/NTSC template (same as the AE template), and then open the scans of the forms (JPGs) and drag them into this blank PSD, will the program take over and make any adjustments to the PAR if needed?  If I forge on and import the PSD layers into the AE file, will AE automatically work with the files to compensate for any distortion?
If I click  "Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction" off or on ( in either program) does that effect the final output or is that just for my eyesight's benefit?
Does anything I've said indicate that I'm understanding this... or am I way out of focus?
    I appreciate some expert guidance.
    JL

Yes, you should use the appropriate composition settings preset for your output type. Don't try to overthink it. People run themselves into problems by trying to manually do things that After Effects is doing automatically.
    > If I click  "Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction" off or on ( in either  program) does that effect the final output or is that just for my  eyesight's benefit?
That is just a preview option. It's a rough preview, so don't be surprised that it looks a little blocky/pixelated. It has no effect on output.
    > The text on the forms has to be sharp and undistorted in both output formats.
Keep in mind that standard-definition video (720x480) is a very-low-resolution format. See this page for some tips:
"Best practices for creating text and vector graphics for video"
    > that I will use for a DVD and YouTube (extremes of quality).
Are you suggesting that you think that a DVD is of higher quality than what you see on YouTube? DVDs use MPEG-2 encoding and have dimensions of standard-defintion televisin---in other words, low quality. These days, online video is very often better than what you see on a standard-definition TV.

  • 15 seccond freeze! HELP!!!!

Recently my imac G5 has had these sporadic 30 second lock ups, where the monitor goes blurry and everything stops. Then, it shifts back to normal like nothing happend. Also, on startup, sometimes it freezes alltogether and has to be re-rebooted. Any Ideas anyone??

Austin: Wierd! Is this a Rev A? I only ask because I am aware that there are some buttons inside which the user can access by removing the back panel and pushing on one or the other. The Rev B takes care of that by simply shuting down the computer and unplugging it for a few moments before restarting. I'd try doing that anyway.
Have you added any software or programs recently? If so, perhaps uninstalling/restalling it might be useful.
Have you run repair permissions? Have you run disc repair from the CD? It might work. Do you have Applecare? If so, it came with a repair utility CD (I forget its name since I'm not home) which you can run to "repair" problems.
About 2 weeks after I received my Rev A earlier this year my 20" froze 3 times. No apparent rhyme or reason for it. (grey screen - nothing responding - fans roaring like a leaf blower). Perhaps coincidently, but after I bought and installed a Crucial memory stick it never froze again. Ive read somewhere that if the ram sticks aren't fully seated blips, frezes, kernal panics can often occur. Perhaps removing the computer's back panel and gently but firmly pushing down on your ram sticks might help (can't hurt). walt

  • Incorrect resolution after upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1

I have W510 4389-P2G which had 1920x1200 resolution in Windows 7 and 8. After upgrade to Windows 8.1 the monitor became blurry and resolution is now 1920x1080. In Device manager I can see Thinkpad Display 1920x1080 driver. After uninstalling the driver and installing newest drivers for W510 and restarting (I also tried drivers for W500) the result is always 1920x1080. What can I do to solve the problem?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

My W510 has always been 1920x1200 until I intalled Windows 8.1
Now, the screen is blurry with less vertical space and resolution 1920x1080
Apparently there are other W510 1920x1200 out there:
