Monitor looks red

monitor looks all red, I tried another monitor before and that one looked yellow, do i have a problem with my videocard? I went to system preferences and tried all; also I tried the PRAM RESET but didn't work? the monitors seems to work fine in a mini mac that I have. I just recently installed the OSX tiger on it.

Hi jaymarctx-
Greetings and welcome to the Apple Discussion boards
It could be the card. Are you absolutely sure that there is nothing wrong with the cable?
You may want to try opening up the Mac, pull the video card out and then pressing it back in again to "reseat" it. While inside if there is any dust built up on the card or other parts you may want to clear that at the same time.

  • Monitor looks like a negative

My monitor looks like a negative. My text is white and the background is black. I looked through the system preferences to convert it back and can't seem to figure it out. I also looked through this website and couldn't find in any information. Can someone point me in the right direction.
    Thank You!

    laprete,
    You're Welcome!
When you opened Universal System Preferences, you may have noticed the key combination that I posted, was displayed under Switch to White on Black, in key symbols.
This KB Article Symbols for special keys, shows you what symbols correspond to which keys.
You will see these symbols used in various other places as well. In the Finder contextual menus, for example. Keyboard Shortcuts.

  • Monitor has weird, pixelated colors, but external monitor looks fine

I have a MacBook Pro. It is a couple of years old. Recently the monitor started fritzing out. At first it would happen only happen when I ran windows through boot camp. A couple of days later, it began happening in os x too.The screen seems to be operating on a reduced amount of colors, a preponderance of green and everything is pixelated. There are blobby shaped circles of rainbow all over the desktop. Windows on top of the desktop look better, but still way too green and pixelated. All parts of the screen are equally bad. I tried changing all the settings in display. Also ran disc utility. The display on the external monitor looks fine. Any ideas on how I can fix this?

Some MBP have bad nVidea graphics chips that can do wheat you describe, except it usually affects an external monitor as well. It's covered by a warranty extension program here:

  • Program Monitor looks like it changed ratio

I started in 1920x1080, but after editing videos and saving a few times I looked up and the program monitor looks something like 1920x800!  Any suggestions? I made no changes and cannot seem to find a way to display 1920x1080 again.  Thank you all for the help.

  • My monitor looks 90 degrees to the right

My monitor looks 90 degrees to the right.
    How can I fix this?

Sorry, but could you extend your description with some more details like which monitor of which machine and which operating system. Perhaps it would be useful when you post the graphics card manufacturer and what you did because your description definetively tells nothing really about your problem.
    Please more details. OK?

  • Monitor looks posterized

So my cat sat on my keyboard and he did something wierd, and I cant figure out how to undo it. My entire monitor looks like it is in negatve, or posterized- I dont even know what to call it. Everything, from the background image to the buttons, to every program opened, is not the color it should be. And when I go into appearance, it won't change anything. Or anything else I have tried.
For example, this screen looks black with white writing and dark green tabs.
    Any thoughts?

    Hi Jellolady,
From your user profile, I see that you have a PowerBook. This section of the forums is for PowerMacs. It's best to post in the right section just in case your issue is a special PowerBook issue.
I can fix this one for you, though. In system preferences, go into Universal Access. In there, you can toggle Black on White/White on Black to get back your appropriate settings.
You cat went and sat on exactly the right key combination to operate a short cut that does exactly this - children are good at it too.
    Cheers!

  • My G5 won't "recognize" my New Dell Monitor - looks bad.

O.k. - So about three weeks ago my co-worker and I buy two identical monitors (dell E228WFP) for our two identical Macs - Dual 2GHZ PowerPC G5 running the new Leopard 10.5.2, GeForce FX 5200 video cards
we installed leopard right after putting in the monitors.... Leopard did not fix the problem...
So, not that I have to say it, but one computer recognizes the monitors just fine - reads the name, brand, and the native resolution - 1680 x 1050 @ 60hz, the other (mine), doesn't read it at all and so I am forced to select a resolution that's "close" to the optimum - which looks like crap.
Yes, we've swopped cords, monitors, everything - same results. My co-worker's monitor is read and looks great - mine does not.
I tried Dell's web site for drivers and it doesn't have any for MAC. hmm.... The CD that came with the monitors also did nothing for me.
Any help would be extremely appreciated! I don't won't to buy a new graphics card - especially when I'm not positive it will help....

o.k., I've waited a while to see if anyone had any ideas for me. I'm thinking my G5 might have some sort of graphics glitch unrelated to the actual graphics card. That said, my old CRT monitor looked great...
Is there anything in my software or hardware package that can keep my G5 from recognizing the Dell monitor properly?? Something that the identical G5 in the office would have, because the other one works just fine with the same monitor WITH my graphics card installed...

  • My (quite new) MBP's monitor looks a bit pinkish, and the black test goes red when I scroll.  Why?

I said it all in the header.  All the screen components that usually look pale grey look a bit pinkish, and the inages and text discolor when I scrook.  This is especially noticeable with text, which goes from black to dark red and back to black when scrolling stops.
I usually use the MBB with a separate monitor, so I hadn't noticed this until today and don't know when it started.
I suspect this means a defect in the display.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Gray tones look red

I have CS4 and all my gray tone have a strong red cast to them. However, outside of PS, the color looks just fine. I didn't have this problem with CS2.
I have combed the internet looking for answers, but the only one I can find is "Calibrate your monitor!". I do not think this will help, as I said before, the colors look right in CS2, and the only thing I have changed about my system and/or monitor is my version of PhotoShop (CS2 to CS4).

  • External monitor looks horrible

I've connected my Samsung SyncMaster 171v LCD monitor to my new Macbook with a mini DVI to VGA connector and get terrible results. I've tried setting to the native resolution of 1280 x 1024 as well as 1024 x 768(stretched) and 800 x 600 (stretched), but get a somewhat fuzzy picture. Nothing like what I get when I use my windows box with an old ATI 7500.
Can anyone give me some suggestions as it is totally unusable as a viable external monitor at this rate?

As Attila mentions, if you are mirroring the displays then that will explain the poor image quality. By the way, the native resolution of the MacBook is 1280 x 800 and not 1280 x 960.
With regards to DVI vs VGA, at resolutions of 1280 x 1024 you won't notice a difference.
EDIT : By the way, the normal cause for "fuzzy" looking displays is an incorrect resolution setting which is mismatched to the native resolution. Can you confirm the native is 1280 x 1024?

  • NTSC monitor looks "buzzy"

Hi All I just got a Blackmagic Intensity Pro and a JVC 15" production monitor. I got everything hooked up and I was surprised that the picture looked "buzzy"like I'm looking at my video through a filter of dots moving up the screen. Granted I'm running s-video into the monitor so I wasn't expecting great quality but the dots are really distracting. I can get a component video card for my monitor, I assume that would be better picture quality but would the dots still be an issue? Hopefully that's not how the monitor is and it's just the s-video input. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

it sounds like you're getting line interference... it could be as simple as replacing the s-video cable that you're using, or possibly it's ground noise from where your monitor is plugged in. Even using an s-video cable, your signal shouldn't be substantially worse than bnc or an f-connector. Try the simple things first. and as far as the component connection, that's always going to look better, but it doesn't sound like you're getting a normal signal to begin with.

  • Carbon X1 - External Monitor Looks Awful

I have a carbon x1 and using it with an external monitor has been a huge headache for me. The colors look so extremely washed out on an external monitor that it's essentially unusable. I've tested this with multiple monitors and dongles which all work perfectly with other laptops so I can say with a high level of confidence that the issue is with the carbon x1. I've spent a lot of time modifying the gamma and brightness settings but can't get anywhere close to what it should look like. I also have the same issue in both Linux and Windows. Is this a known problem with the X1's graphic card? Are others having the same issue?
As a sidenote: I have to say that this issue combined with the broken Windows updates and the wireless card that won't connect to ad-hoc networks or stream audio over bluetooth has left me extremely disappointed with this laptop. I've bought exclusively thinkpad laptops since the ibm days but will be switching brands for my next purchase.

at least it is working for you !

  • External Monitor looks terrible

I recently got ahold of two monitors, both DVI, to hook up to my 12 inch PowerBook for my setup at work.
On both of them I attempted to run as a mirrored displays as well as an extended desktop. I can verify that at least one of the monitors is high-quality and gives a nice crisp picture when attached to any other machine.
However the image coming from the PowerBook is pretty abysmal. The edges are dull, the colors are washed out and I'm really unimpressed with the picture.
I bought the 12" PowerBook because of the portability and because evetually I knew I would want to use it with a larger screen. Is this not the case?
    Any ideas?

I've tried different profiles as well as calibrating.
    They all look terrible.
It isn't an issue of the colors being off, it primarily has to do with the clarity of the picture. Both of these monitors I KNOW are capable of a better picture than they have with the PowerBook.
