Monitor no longer recieves video signal [Solved... w/ Fire.]

Greetings and thanks in advance for reading.  I'm thinking the problem is either Video or Processor but second opinions are always appreciated:
The problem started about a week ago when I was playing Wizardry 8 via Cedega (OpenGL accelerated Game.)  The screen mysteriously went black, the monitor turned to low power mode and the sound looped once or twice before just going dead altogether -- yet the computer was still on.  I rebooted and things worked again.
2 days ago the game thing happend while playing Unreal Tournament 2004.  Montior went black, sound looped once or twice from the past few seconds, then power stayed on but there was no video signal.  I tried rebooting this time only to find nothing happening and it's still doing nothing since.  The power turns on, no beeps or anything occur and it goes thru the same familiar clicks when checking the hard drives and CD Rom.  (The spinning still occurs as well, the keyboard blinks once and I can turn on / off the numlock.  The fans turn on inside the case, and the network adapter is recieving a current.)
I tried taking out the RAM, unplugging the hard drives and such systematicallyh only to have it do the same thing.  It boots up, doesn't beep, doesn't proceed and the monitor remains blank.  I tried swapping the monitors with no avail.  I even cleared the BIOS via popping the battery and waiting a bit (yes it was unplugged)  The only thing that produced a notable difference was when I unplugged the video card and powered it up without one.  It beeped once long, waited, beeped again long, waited, and kept doing this ad infinitum.  I should also mention the red LED indicating that the HD is being accessed is constantly on but there is no HD activity discinerable to the human ear.
My hard ware is a Gigabyte 64 Bit AMD Board (Tryton K8 I believe), GF6 6600 GT, PCIE Model 1 gig of RAM and the rest are minute details but I'll include them upon request.
I've had this machine little under a year now (actually 2 weeks from now it'l be ja year)   I haven't swapped out the video or processor since I do not have a spare one to replace it with to test it, neither do any of my friends.
Any further questions or such, let me know.  Thanks in advance again.
(Meant PCIE, not EIDE, sorry for the confusion)

Something similar happened to a friend of mine. His laptop  (under windows) bsoded twice while playing cube. the second time, it didnt boot up again, and refused to power on, there was no sound from the hard drive, the laptop didnt boot at all.
It turned out he had busted up ram... *shrug* it's hard to say though, such symptoms could highlight a lot of things.
Make sure all the connectors in your case are fine, everything's plugged in, and if you can, test out the ram in another compy

    Hello PriyankaJeeva,
When turning on your computer you receive a message stating “no video signal”, is that correct? I will be happy to help you.
Can you please provide the full  model of the computer you have, If you are unsure where to locate that information have a look at this link for help if needed.
Also what model monitor do you have, it should be located on the bottom right or left corner of the monitor if its an HP monitor.
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.

  • How do I get a video signal to an external monitor via the mini-display port on my Mac Book Air?

I can't get a video signal out through my mini-display port on my Mac Book Air (version 1).  Thus I can't feed BBC iPlayer to an external monitor.  There is some connectivity - the MAC wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible and sound is transferred.  Is it likely to be a cable connection problem (though the cable works with a Windows operating laptop)?

First, what you said is contradictory. You say "can't get a video signal", then say"the Mac wallpaper is broadcast, the mouse pointer is visible". "No video signal" means an absolutely black, blank screen. It sounds like you have plenty of signal.
I am supposing what you are seeing is actually a blank desktop, which is to be expected if your settings are such that you are extending the desktop, instead of mirroring it.
Within the preference panes is a setting that allows you to change this. Open System Preferences, click Displays, and then click Arrangement. You will see that you are extending the desktop. Change that setting.

  • HP w2207 Monitor - "No Video Signal" After Power Outage

My mother has a Mac Mini - 2009 model - that I bought her. It is connected to an HP w2207 monitor I used to have with a mini-display port to DVI [I think, either that or VGA] adaptor. She lives 2 1/2 hours away.
Last week there was a power outage and ever since she cannot get her system to work. Her monitor says "No Video Signal" and then goes to sleep.
I worked with her for over an hour on the phone trying to fix this problem (oh what fun). Tried every combination of things I know to fix it. It seems from her description that the Mac Mini is not actually booting. When I have her turn the computer off by (press the power button, wait, press it again), she reports that she will here the disk drive spin up for 10 seconds but then no more activity. The green light is on, but that is it.
I had her reset the SCM, but that didn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Bryan

See if the Mini will boot from the install disk. If it does, have your mom use Disk Utility to repair her internal hard drive. Repeat running repair until Disk Utility gives the disk a clean bill of health. Then repair permissions.
Disk Warrior can sometimes repair things Disk Utility can't. However, it's possible the internal directory is beyond help. In that case, erasing the internal disk and reinstalling the system will be necessary. It's also possible that the disk itself or electronic components in the Mini have been damaged which would require repair at the Mac hospital.
You might want to consider buying your mom a UPC.

  • Firmware 2.0 Video Signal Monitor Issues

This is a story of woe regarding my issues with the histogram "video signal monitor"Everything described below is using CineEI Since purchasing the camera, I was never able to get the VSM to display consistently.  There seemed to be little rhyme or reason to when it displayed and when it didn't.  As with any other issue, I put my faith in the second coming, firmware 2.0. Today, I excitedly downloaded and installed 2.0.  So far, only disappointment. Initially, I was able to get the VSM to display in every 23.98 recording format (I didn't try other framerates)I even tried turning on all the outputs, and was happy to find that my VSM stuck around.   - Everything that follows is XAVC-L 1080 @ 23.98 - Then I tried turning on a LUT and everything went to ****** in a hand-basket.  After turning on a Viewfinder LUT, I ony got that lovely "cannot proceed" message every time I tried to enable the VSM.  I tried turing off all the outputs, turning off output displays, nothing helped.  Frustrating, needless to say.  But, because the VSM would be sampling the post-LUT image anyway, I wasn't heartbroken...yet. Defeated, I turned OFF the viewfinder LUT.  Got excited to see my new friend the VSM.  But now, even with the LUT off, I get the "cannot proceed" message.  I've switched every related setting in the camera, outputs, output display, output formats, other LUT settings.  Nothing helps. Now I can't do anything to get the VSM to display on my camera.   I've tweeked every setting imaginable.  I've tried restarting multiple times, even switching between Cine EI and custom.  the VSM won't even display in custom mode now... The only fix I've found is to do an All Rest.  Doing so allows the VSM to display without a LUT.  But, once I turn on a LUT, the VSM disappears for good, even after I switch the LUT back off. I wouldn't wih this frustration on my enemies but has anyone else experienced this after upgrading to 2.0? Sony, is there a matrix somewhere that can educate us on when the VSM can and cannot be displayed?  It's hard to discern when I'm experiencing nominal behaviour without knowing what to expect from normal operation.

ok, I found an output combination that I must have missed earlier which narrows my issue. My VSM won't display unless an SDI output is enabled.  HDMI output setting makes no difference. So, after enabling SDI in "Output On/Off": SDI 2048x1080Psf           HDMI ---                                     VSM: YESSDI 1920x1080Psf           HDMI ---                                     VSM: YESSDI ---                              HDMI 1920x1080P                     VSM: NOSDI 1920x1080i (2-3pd)  HDMI 1920x1080i (2-3pd)          VSM: YES The same concept holds true for UHD and QHD.  Without an SDI output enabled, no VSM.  Erik, I suspect that if you enable an SDI output, you'll be able to display the VSM in all recording formats.

  • [solved] No video signal on cold boot - replug power and all fine

    Hi,
My issue is a cold boot one. 6 weeks ago I installed a new mobo with new CPU. Three weeks ago I installed new RAM. Spec follows.
Now, since yesterday, when cold booting the system after some time off, the fans start spinning but that's about it. No video signal. Keyboard dead (numlock off), nothing. Simple solution is to then unplug and replug the power cord and press boot again, which then starts the system normally.
I googled this post at techspot, which labels my problem straight-on but they are running ASUS mobos. Since my system worked fault-free before, I am critical to their solution. https://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-7148-No-signal-to-monitor-amp-no-post-beeps.html
Any ideas what to do? Thanks a lot for your replies!

Well, they usually do, doesn't matter what component.
Try another Power Supply and see what happens. Than you will know if it is the PSU or not. (Maybe you have another system you can use the PSU from or a friend can borrow you his power supply unit.)

  • Recieve signals from WLAN NIC, decode and produce video signal from VGA or Composite Video out

i am trying to broadcast some MPEG4 video messages over a WLAN and display them on TVs and LCDs. i need to develope an interface between the wireless NIC and the display modoule. this interface has to be able to collect the information, decode the information to reproduce a video signal on a VGA socket or a normal TV composite video socket. does anyone has any ideas how i can achieve this?? please help me!! thank you!

    Hi,
Assuming that you are trying to use LabVIEW to achieve this,  I believe that it will be simplest if your wireless NIC exposes an ActiveX interface that LabVIEW can use.

  • No video signal on a HPE 510f with a GeForce GT 640 connected to a HD TV

After upgrading the video card in my HPE 510f to a GeForce GT 640 and re-connecting it to my Home Theater system, there is no video signal from the HPE 510f when I switch the video input on the TV.  Simply unlpugging and re-inserting the HDMI cable solves the problem, but there must be something else that can be done. This solution kind'a defeats the purpose of having a remote...
    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Hi,
Review this HP posted article for setting up dual monitors.  Look at the troubleshooting section for TVs.
Use a quality HDMI cable that is certified for 1.3 or 1.4 if the TV is 3D.
Avoid using adapters as they can be another point of failure.
Avoid using a long HDMI cable as the length can at times be an issue. 15 feet or less should be OK.
Try the latest NVIDIA Driver from the NVIDIA site.  Review the release notes.
Check the bios level of your PC against the latest bios level posted by HP.
Unless you have upgraded the power supply in the HPE 510f, the 300 watt PSU is below the GT 640 minimum requirements of 350 watts.

  • Video signaling problem caused by 1.9, 2.0 BIOS (pointing out a BIOS problem)

Hi, i have a problem with the video signal. At random times when i boot up my computer, the computer would power up but there is no signal to the monitor. there is no hdd activity (via the hdd led) and nothing seems to be happening just that the fans are whirring. i have to unplug the computer then plug it again then turn it up again which sometimes repeats the problem. This is very irritating! So i did a little bit of troubleshooting:
    1. I changed video cards. I used a SAPPHIRE ati radeon 9600XT fireblade and a LEADTEK GF4 ti4200. Both cards were causing the same problem and when i used both cards to another computer, there is no problem. = NOT A video card problem
    2. used differnt kinds of drivers Cat 3.10, 4.10, 4.20 (omega and official) does not seem to do anything (which also i believe the drivers are OS dependent and its the bios of the vid card that starts up the vid card)
    3. upgraded from 1.9 to 2.0 BIOS. still the same problem
    4. reverted from 2.0 to 1.7 BIOS. the problem ended.
    BTW, the board is 865PE-Neo2 - S. on a Intel 2.6Ghz C, 512MB TwinMos ram with m-tec chips, 80gb hdd, enermax 300w psu
so ive' solved the problem, and i just wanted to point out that there is a problem with 1.9, 2.0 BIOS. (havnt tried the 1.8 tho)

Wish I had seen this thread 2 weeks ago, but you did save me from buying a new graphics card.  That was the last step (before chucking this mobo completely) in my attempts to fix the same problem.  It didn't bother me too much, except I also couldn't get any DVD player (tried 3) to work.  Would boot sometimes and at others gave a blue screen video error.
Flashing to bios 1.7 was the only thing that fixed it.  Tried different memory, updating software, various combinations of drives, etc.  For the record I tried bios 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, and 2.1.  Not sure what about those updates causes problems but there definitely is something wrong.
    Thanks.

  • T510 dual monitors no longer working properly

I have a T510 running Win7 64-bit.  For at least 3 years, I have had the same dual monitor setup (2 DoubleSight DS-1900S) running off my minidock with the laptop closed.  The rgith monitor is the primary, running off the DVI port, while the left uses the analog port.  I was away for a week at Scout camp, powered on the system once while I was there, and when I came back to the office, my monitor setup started failing.
Specifically, the right screen is active but it no longer displays the signal being sent to it.  When I powercycle the screen, I can see the display for about a quarter of a second, then it goes blank.  When the problem first started, I could cycle it about 20 times and eventually it would stay on, until I left the unit overnight and it went to sleep, at which point the probelm started again.
Sounds like a wonky monitor?  I have a backup set of monitors that I swapped in, and had the same exact problem, so that appears to rule out a mechanical defect.  More fun facts: I can only use the laptop screen as a standalone display.  I cannot get the multidisplay control panel to open, even though my left screen is powered up.  However, one of my programs that normally launches to my right (main) screen will still launch, but not to my laptop screen.  It really wants to live on my right screen, even when that screen is not powered on (I can close the program by accessing the icon bar at the bottom of my laptop screen).
As you might surmise, this is an extremely frustrating situation.  I have gone on many trips with this laptop, and each time I returned, I either plugged it into the minidock with no issues, or I had to readjust my power settings briefly to get it to work as per usual.  This time, I have no clue what went wrong.  Suggestions?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have not changed any software or drivers (knowingly), and I had already checked the cables to make sure they were all tight, so off I went to ransack the house to dig out the spare cables.  DVI cable? no change.  Power cable? no change.  Converter cable - OMG!!!!  IT WORKS!!!!
Thank you SO much!  I could have sworn this was a software issue, never considered a bad cable or power unit.
Both monitors are working properly, left-to-right scroll is working properly.  Now all I need is to figure out how to get all my icons/shortcuts back onto the right screen...

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
Does your PC have a discrete video card or just the on board graphics processor with a VGA connector?
If you are using a HP monitor then try a monitor reset. Unplug the monitor’s power cord and hold down the monitor’s power button for 30-60 seconds. Plug the monitor back in and power it up. check the monitor's internal source selection and make sure that it is set to VGA.
Test the monitor and cable using just VGA on another PC to ensure that those components are good.  Alternatively, use a known good monitor and VGA cable (without using adapters).
The other suggestion would be to locate a video card that is rated to work with the 250 watt power supply in your PC. There are very few video cards that are rated by the manufacturer to work with a 250 watt PC.  A new power supply and video card might be close to $100.

Hi, a year ago I build my computer, a gaming PC, and everything works fine until a few days ago, exactly one year after the build, I was on mi pc when suddenly all freeze out, the video and the sound I just had to press the shutdown button, when I start the pc again it just start like 3 seconds and restart infinitely.
After a web search I start to think that the PSU was the problem but after more research looks like the motherboard was the problem so I take out the battery and put it back and start the pc.
The PC starts again, but another problem begin after that there is no video signal. The monitor doesn’t show any image I try to disconnect the Graphic card but nothing I press the button of the Motherboard to reset it but still the same I can’t solve the problem but there is more, after the PC start it stays ON like a minute and then restart again but the second time no restart anymore.
    Any suggestion ?

So now you can boot with no auto restart, but without display?
You tried with IGD (on-board display)?
Maybe try another monitor or cable,
and use only one RAM stick w/ different slots to boot.

  • GTX 670 Power Edition gives no video signal

Hoping somebody can help here. I've had a long string of problems which seemed graphics card related. Initially, the problem that Windows would reboot with no error message or warning of any kind about a minute after logging in. No problems in safe mode nor any problem if I set Windows to start in Diagnostic Mode. Advice at the time suggested doing a system repair from my installation CD but didn't have time to do this before going on holiday. On return, the problem had deteriorated (or a new problem appeared) - there was no video signal, not even the BIOS screen.
At this time my graphics card was an NVidia GTX 580, motherboard a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R, I-7 950 CPU, 850W XFX PSU.
I ran through a host of tests to eliminate possible causes:
    1. Tried the card in all PCI_E slots but still no video.
    2. Tried another card (NVidia Quadro) in all PCI-E slots, system booted successfully with video and could login to Windows (difference here is the Quadro is powered directly from the motherboard).
    3. Tried a number of DVI cables with both cards, the Quadro worked with all of them the 570 stubbornly refused to give a video signal.
Decided the problem was either the PSU or the GTX 580. Returned the latter under warranty and purchased the MSI GTX 570 PE. Installed this and again no video signal but ran through the above tests again with exactly the same results. However could now test the 570 on another system (could not try this with the 680 as PSU on my other system only had 2 6-pin PCI-E connections and the 580 required an 8-pin and a 6-pin power connection). The 570 at least produced the BIOS screen, booted Linux and presented a login screen. Didn't login as the PSU on this system was probably on the marginal side for wattage.
Decided then that I had a strange PSU problem. It could power my PC with the Quadro, suggesting motherboard, CPU, RAM and disks were all OK but could not provide sufficient power for either the 580 or the 670 cards. Bought a new 850W PSU and have just installed this with the 670 card in and yet again I get no video signal. I am now stumped as to what the problem can be so would welcome any suggestions as to what may be wrong and/or what else I can try.
    Thanks,
    George

then you should contact mainboard vendor about it as problem is not in the VGA.
I had given what I thought was sufficient information about the PC spec in my first post. Both what I started with and what I'd changed. But I'll give the full spec here:
    Motherboard: GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0
    CPU: Intel I-7 950 3.06 GHz
    Memory: 3x4GB Crucial DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64
Disks: Samsung 64GB SSD SATA System disk
WD 1TB and 500GB SATA drives
    PSU: Coolermaster RS-850-SPHA-D3 80+ Gold - 3.3V:22A, 5V:25A, 12V:70A single 12V rail
GPU: MSI GTX 670 2GB OC Power Edition
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
The changes were the PSU and the GPU. The problem started when I had an XFX Black Edition 80+ Bronze PSU and a Gigabyte GTX 580 GPU otherwise the rest of the spec was and has remained the same. With my original spec, it ran perfectly happily for almost 2 years but then started with the system rebooting without warning about a minute after login (it would stay at the login screen indefinitely). After running some tests the clues seemed to point to the GPU configuration having been corrupted in some way (from sfc logs). However, if I set Windows to Selective startup, I could login and the system would stay up. I decided to do a system repair from my Windows 7 installation disk but had to postpone this for a couple of weeks during which time the PC was powered off.
When I next powered up the system, there was no video signal at any time. The investigation I did made me think either the GPU was faulty or there was a PSU problem - all other aspects of the system could be shown to work. I returned the GTX580 as it was under warranty and purchased the GTX670 with the refund. This exhibited the same symptoms as the 580 - no video signal no matter how long I left the system running. I was able to test the 670 in another system and it worked there. I couldn't run this test with the 680 as the PSU did not have an 8-pin PCI-E connector - just 2 6-pin connectors.
I then added an NVidia Quadro card alongside the 670 and booted the system with this as the display GPU. This gave me a video signal at all times and more importantly allowed me to get into Windows and check if it recognised the 670 in Device manager. It did but reported a problem as, until now, I hadn't been able to load the 670 driver. I did this and rebooted - again no video signal during post and initial Windows boot but I did get video as soon as the newly installed driver was loaded. This is the state I'm in now other than I've flashed the vbios as suggested and the GPU no longer works on my other PC.
Note, I can happily remove the Quadro and boot the system with just the 670, except I don't get any video signal until Windows has loaded the 670 driver - the monitor light stays stubbornly orange till that point. After that, everything seems to be fine - I don't get the reboots that this problem started with. The only other clue I have is with my original spec I always had a problem from shortly after building it where I would need to power cycle the system most times as I could not wake it from hibernate mode.
I'm hoping this helps as I know I have run out of ideas of things to do. The only thing I have left to try is update the motherboard BIOS.
    George
