Monitor Output, for 24p

Hey all,
So my set up is like this.... Firewire cable to Camera (Deck) to S-Video to Sony monitor.
Now what I've noticed, that if I edit something thats 29.97 frames it will play back on my monitor, but anything that is 24p or 23p... won't play as a movie, only as stills... Is there anyway to change it so you could have a 24p project play as a smooth movie not in single frames?
Thanks!
-Blake

you can view your 24P material on your computer monitor.
What is it you are trying to accomplish and what are your deliverables?
that will determine your course of action.
If you are not going to master to an SD tape based format, and are cutting for web or SD DVD delivery your computer monitor will suffice.
If you are going to master to tape and release in SD stay at 29.97 since that's what you will end up on in an NTSC SD world.
The whole intent of 24P in standard def is to mimic the effect of shooting on film and transferring to video. It's a look.
The only reason I know of to use 23.98 SD is if you are off lining a project where the source footage is too demanding of a small system to work with, and be able to match the frame rate. Even at that DVCProHD at 23.98 would be better suited for that workflow.
Then again I'm an old guy and that's the way I think

  • Dual monitor output for Z68MA-ED55 (B3) with IGP ?

Does Z68MA-ED55 (B3) board support dual or multi monitor output with IGP aka built-in intel HD 2000/3000 ( not with discrete graphic card ) like the  H67 boards ?

By right it should, however, to confirm the answer, it is best to >>contact MSI<<.

  • Apple Loops - How do you change the monitoring output?

Anyone know how to change the default output of the Apple Loop player to another output (eg. 5-6), or is this just wishful thinking?

Very easy. Go to the mixer tab, and select the ALL button at the top of that window. You should see a channel strip called Prelisten, usually on audio channel 256. Change that output to whatever, and that will change the monitoring output for loops, the bin, and the Sample Editor.

  • How do I add an output for a 2nd monitor?

I have a mac mini that was purchased in 2009 I believe, maybe 2008. The operating system has been upgraded to Snow Leopard. I want to add a 2nd monitor, so I can use 2 at the same time, however, there is only one output. Is there a way to add an output for a 2nd monitor? OS is 10.6.X. not at the computer right now to check.
    Thanks for input.

If the back of your mini looks like this:
    - then you have two display ports already (Mini DVI Port and MiniDisplayPort). I only mention this, as it may not be obvious! You just need the right adapters to feed your two monitors.
    If it looks like this:
    - then you do indeed only have one display output (DVI) and then ignore me, and listen to Asatoran!

  • Setting output for monitoring playback

I have FCS 2 and something that bugs me in Soundtrack Pro now is that my output for playback seems to have to be the same as for my system. I have other things going on my Mac that might generate sounds while I am working in Soundtrack Pro and don't like hearing it all while editing. I generally use my optical jack for general purpose listening but when editing I use a firewire 410 going out to either headphones or a set of monitors. Is there a way to set Soundtrack Pro to use the firewire 410 for playback without having to change my system audio output in the system preferences? The only settings I could find in Soundtrack Pro were for recording.
    Thanks,
    D.J.

I use a Layla 3g audio interface, 8 analog I/Os, which connects via SPDFI optical to a LavryBlack DA 10 converter. In Logic Pro to hear my audio tracks I therefore set their output to Output 9-10.
I can find no way to do this in STP. I have the Layla 3g chosen as default both in my System Prefs and in Audio Midi Setup.
If STP only allows output assignment of a track to 1-2 this is extremely lame but perhaps i simply do not know how.

  • Firewire Output for Video Preview Intermittent

I'm experiencing a frustrating problem with After Effects these days.
We're producing some video to be projected, so to see what the final output will really look like, I'm doing video previews using FireWire so output goes directly to the projector.
It's been working great up until yesterday.  Was working fine until I had to restart my Mac.  Upon reboot, my the projector no longer gets any video output.
I've tried restarting numerous times, checked all connections, etc.  Got it working again after several restarts, but after switching over to Photoshop momentarily, the video output once again disappeared.
Any suggestions on how to regain consistent Firewire output for Video Previews?
    My setup:
    After Effects CS6
    Mac Pro
    OSX Version 10.7.5
Firewire Output of my Mac's monitor is going to the Firewire Input on my Sony Media Converter
RCA Video out (Composite video) going to the projector's video input.
    After Effects Video Preview preferences:
    Output Device:  FireWire
    Output Mode: Apple FireWire NTSC

    Thanks for your reply, Rick.
I finally figured it out... I had a background application running called iCam that monitors my security cameras.  I had forgotten that it uses Firewire and was intermittently hogging the resources.  Once I quit that application, everything was good once again.
Thanks for taking the time to respond, much appreciated!

  • External Monitor Options for iMac?

I have an iMac and have been using a lot with my 7D files. They look great, but I would like to have an external monitor output. Any ideas on output modules for iMac? Thanks!

is if there is a Firewire out that can send my Color display out to my Trinitron monitor, like FCP
No, absolutely not. COLOR does not support FireWire output. The developer intended the application to be used with a PCIe Video I/O interface, (Kona, for example, as opposed to GPU) supporting HD-SDI output, and the fixed output gamma characteristic of 2.2 was assigned as default to support that.
*All other approaches* are considered to be +ad hoc+ substitutes and are +de facto+ "as is". The policy should be read as -- "we made it one way which functions very precisely; if you want something else, that's your business"... but for a very large number of non-broadcast content producers, that's fine. It doesn't matter if its technically "wrong", as long as there is a result, not to imply that no one cares about the products they are generating -- but there are obviously some very large knowledge gaps in the consuming population in this area.
That's my possibly cynical interpretation of the history and situation...

  • TouchSmart 9300 specs - DVI-D output for second display?

I'm trying to verify the 9300 has a DVI-D output for a second external display before committing to waiting for it's release?  It appears the 9100 does, so hopefully that carries over?  The other option is to use a USB-to-DVI adapter with the 610, but as I require 2560x1600 resolution I don't think that's going to be possible either.

When you set up the second monitor system preferences will pop up in the second monitor and you can try several different settings.
I connected my Samsung SyncMaster 192N to the mini dvi port and it works fine but it doesn't seem as bright as when I had it connected to my Windows PC. I use it to run Windows XP in VMWare Fusion. That way I can run it full screen but still have a full screen for OSX.

  • Three monitors - two for Premiere, one as Reference, from Geforce GFX 570 - possible?

My new system for Prodcution Studio CS5.5 has a Geforce GTX570 graphics card to which I've attached my two monitors (via DVItoVGA convertors)
I've read posts on this forum where people have mentioned adding in an extra graphcis card to drive a separate reference monitor
My question is, given the Geforce GTX570 has a mini-HDMI port and a Displayport as well as the two DVIs that I'm using, do I need a separate extra graphics card to run a a separate reference monitor in additon to the two 'program' monitors I already have?  I want to run a HD1080 screen from the mini-HDMI port as a reference monitor... but I've been reading around and I can't work out if this is possible, or whether I will need the separate graphics card to do this
A related issue - if I can't run the third monitor from the GTX570, can I use the on-motherboard monitor outputs instead of getting an additonal graphics card?  The motherboard in this syetm is an Asus P8 Z68-V Pro with a Core i7 2600K chip in, and has (unused) a DVI and a mini-HDMI port - might these do for the Reference monitor?
Finally, I also want to be able to use the reference monitor in After Effects - presumably this will not be an issue - there's no separate setup / workaround / other complication in doing this
Your comments appreciated - I'm sure there must be other people out there who've encountered these questions -  I'm just trying to get as fully in-the-picture as I can before spending cash
    Thanks

You'll need a second GPU, preferably the same or very similar to your primary one. The on-board GPU may work--it more than likely will if its an Nvidia GPU and you can use the same drivers, but I suspect it's probably Intel or something like that. There can be issues if you have two different GPUs from two different manufacturers installed simultaneously. Not saying for sure that it wouldn't work, but it's inviting headaches.
After Effects doesn't use monitors the same way Pr does--specifically, it doesn't do a full-screen output to a second monitor that's attached via HDMI, DVI, etc. However, you could set up a workspace that maximized the Composition window on a second monitor, but it's not exactly the same effect.

  • Monitor recommendations for PS/CS5.5 print work

Hopefully this won't be retreading old ground too much, but I'm looking for monitor recommendations for using with CS5.5 for print work in Photoshop and InDesign mainly on a new Mac Mini. I've got a Spyder 3 for calibration already so that side of things is covered - the Apple Thunderbolt display is a bit of range financially, plus I'm not sure about the glossy screen myself, ideally I'd be looking to spend no more than £500 and size wise about 24" would be the ideal size due to the amount of deskspace available to me. TIA for any/all help/recommendations!

    For starters look heere:
    http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/
The degree of perfection is dependent on your final needs. A studio doing catalog work is going to need a monitor all the way up to top providers like Eizo. for my needs where I output to an Epson 3800 and bigger, I find the dell u2412 to be ideal, and at your price category, maybe 2 will fit the budget.
The 2412 does not cover the full Adobe RGB gamut, but it does cover sRGB IEC 61966-2-1:1999, the current preference for  online color. I use it because correcting the monitor to match the print for b&w is paramount, and the best monitors for this use LED backlight. The u2412 is admirable for this especially at it's price point.
I also use a 2nd monitor but it is a smaller 4:3 aspect ratio. It's use is strictly for tools and such.
The 2412 is a 16:10 aspect ratio and is far better, imo, for graphics work. Also (and maybe especially!) it is very close to the golden mean ratio giving it a wonderful presentation format. Check it out where you see 16:9 and 16:10 side by side.
When I am working closely with adjustment layers I have enough room on my screen to pull over the specific palette next to the image while tweaking, a big help without losing the ability to fill the screen later if you wish. Simply move the palette back to it's home on the other screen.
    Good Luck!

  • SCEP 2012 System Center Monitoring Pack for Linux v4.5.10.1 Problem

    Hi Everyone!
We are having a problem with OpsMgr 2012 R2 and the System Center Monitoring Pack for SCEP 2012 for Linux v4.5.10.1.  We have successfully deployed the Linux OpsMgr 2012 R2 agent to our test CentOS 6.5 VM as well as SCEP 2012 v4.5.10.1.  We have
imported the System Center Monitoring Pack for SCEP 2012 for Linux management packs into OpsMgr 2012 R2 which is successfully discovering SCEP on our Linux VM, but when looking at the details for the monitor, it indicates that SCEP is "not found"
as seen in the following screen shot...
As seen in the following screen shots, everything else seems to be installed, configured, and working properly...
Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
    Regards,
    JJ

Magnus_001 (big ups) and I were able to get discovery to stop failing on the Linux side of things, but the SCOM MP is still highly problematic.  Their pdf guides for SCEP implementation on Linux has a bunch of typos and errors -- for example, listing
'/bin/sh' instead of '/bin/bash', and one of the lines (the one that includes "export LANG=C" won't run no matter what.  When we disassembled the SCOM MP, we found that there's an extraneous space at the end of the command, current thought is
that that's causing a regex to fail within sudo.  All of their commands, from what I can tell, need to be specified as NOPASSWD within sudo; if you see errors about ssh-askpass with that you can confirm that there are likely typos in their guide sourced
from the pdf.  We eventually allowed '/bin/bash' to get the programs to run since we couldn't get a regex match to catch their command (which should be in a script).  We are out of failures that we can discover with logging on the Linux side; it's
likely to be an error within the MP at this point.
When we look at the powershell script in the MP library, the "not found" error is the default state, set immediately after stdout is captured from the discovery script.  I'm guessing that there's some problem interaction between that script
and the parsing thereof, as when we run the script locally as root we see the output that we'd expect. For all I know that's a line ending or locale problem.
Troubleshooting on the linux end is problematic, as instead of distributing a script to check on the linux side (which makes the sudo part of things much easier), the script is hard-coded within the MP.  From what I understand it would need to be disassembled
    and recompiled to change.
The snippet below may be of use to someone for use in their sudoers file, it will make the checks work on the linux side at least.  I wouldn't recommend this for anything beyond testing, as specifying that an account can run a full bash shell as root
without a password is a terrible idea.
#replace scomactionaccount with whatever your scom action account is called
    User_Alias SCOM = scomactionaccount
    Runas_Alias SCOM = root
    SCOM ALL = (SCOM) NOPASSWD: /opt/microsoft/scx/bin/scxlogfilereader -p
SCOM ALL = (SCOM) NOPASSWD: /bin/bash

  • Best Settings for output for HD MPEG 2 files

    hi,
I'm working on a project with HIGH Res Stills, animating in FCP 4.5
then outputting for a client who wants to view using MPEG 2 files
playing on a HD Monitor. My original pic files are on average,
4000 pix by 3000 at least. What are the best sequence settings?
DVCPRO 1080i60? or 1280i HD TV? and...what codec should
I set my Quicktime to...there's no MPEG 2 setting in FCP 4.5?
Should I do 10bit uncomressed, render a QT, then export that
as an elementary MPEG 2 Stream out of Compressor or QT Pro? I don't have an HD monitor, so I'm trying to figure out which sequence and export settings will render the most high DEF output? Any thoughts would be MUCH appreciated.
    thx

Thank you for your reply, I've been waiting for any advice before I exported!

  • Optical digital audio output for mac book?

Hello, I am wondering if MacBook pro Retina version has the Optical digital audio output or thunderbolt adapter? so i can use optical cable to do output for my music.

    Hi alece,
    Just to clarify something;
When using an optical cable there are several standards of audio that can pass through the cable:
    S/PDIF - a stereo signal - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spdif
    AC3 or Dolby Digital - up to 5.1 surround - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ac3
Dolby Digital Plus - up to 7.1 surround - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DolbyDigitalPlus
ADAT Optical - up to 8 channels of audio - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADAT_Lightpipe
MADI - up to 64 channels of audio - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MADI
I´m sure other people can add more to the list if they want to, my point is that these signals can pass through the exact same kind of optical cable.
The important bit to know is what does your equipment and software support... in theory your question is quite logical, a software can play 5.1 surround to a optical output like Apple DVD Player does with the built-in sound card of a modern mac. However, Logic does not support live encoding of AC3. That is why you have to output the surround mix in Logic to a sound card with at least 6 channels (5+1 as in 5.1) connected to your speaker system. Typically this would be 5 active studio monitors plus a sub. If you were thinking to use an existing stereo I would not recommend it since most consumer speakers have no limiters to protect them from damage (but may be possible depending on your amplifiers inputs)
I hope this answered your question
    Cheers Espen

  • Capturing OfflineRT for 24p Advanced?

    Hey guys,
I've been searching the forum for an answer, but I haven't been able to find anything too clear. I've decided to edit a feature I'm current working on with OfflineRT due to the 100's of hours already shot/still to be shot for the project. Director wants access to everything. But since it's low budget, we definitely don't have the space to have any of it on-line. Can somebody recommend what settings are necessary to capture and edit 24pa anamorphic footage (we want to output to film eventually) using OfflineRT on FCP5?
    Thanks!!

No, it's not working for me. And I'm certain it is user error. For one thing, in order to capture with the pulldown being removed, do you absolutely have to use the source camera? Because we have it attached to a regular DV deck and it's absolutely refusing to check that part of the preset. Second, the capture preset for OfflineRT NTSC 24p (23.98) is GENERIC CAPTURE TEMPLATE.... with no real sign of anything for 24p. It's really frustrating that this isn't as simple as it could be. At this point, I don't really care about it being anamorphic... but I'd like to get the darn thing actually capturing at 24fps (23.98... or something!) Ugh!
