Hello jgoh,
I understand that your display is black.
It sounds like the graphics card may have gone out.
Turn off the computer.
As you power it back on tap the F8 key to load advanced diagnostics.
Select safe mode.
Check to see if the computer will load windows.
You may need to take the computer some where local and have them check out the card.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • Since update download monitor shows "No Signal" and "Monitor Going to Sleep" over and over

I have an HP w2072a Monitor and a Pavillion p7-1436s computer.  I run Windows 8.  Since downloading an update yesterday, I cannot get my monitor to work.  I have unplugged it, plugged it in, tried another monitor, tried another cable, turned the computer off and on several times, played with the sleep button, tried all the buttons on the monitor--nothing works.  If I hit the "On" button, the light turns to blue briefly, I get the screen showing "No signal" then "Monitor Going to Sleep" comes up and the light turns amber---over and over again.  Could this be related to the update I received?  I think the update said it was setting a restore point, but with no monitor, I am stuck!

    Hi dianthus,
Sorry to hear about the issue after doing the update. Do you recall what the update was for? I have included a document regarding your issue.

Haave Compaq, desk top, trying to hook up, HD, flat screen monitor, won't work

    Hello redheadjennieo,
I'm not sure Apple is going to write drivers for a Windows Operating System, so we may have to rely on the generic drivers.
What model pavilion do you have?
    What operating system?
Does the monitor say anything on the screen when it's connected to the computer and you turn it? (e.g. signal out of range, no input, etc)

    Hello chf,
When you boot up your computer a message on the monitor displays that it can't get a signal. The issue could be a few things so we need to start ruling things out
    1. Try another monitor on your computer
    2. Try another cable
    3. Try a different type of cable if your computer has multiple connections
Are you using integrated graphics or is it a discrete graphic card, if discrete which one?
Did it used to work and just stop one day or has it never worked?

  • Macbook recognizes external, but monitor states No Signal

    Hello,
I have a Macbook Pro 17" (early 2009) with a GeForce 9600M GT video card.
My issue is, I attach a Lenovo Thinkvision 22" CRT (C220P or 6573-60N) external monitor that I've successfully used with a Macbook Pro 2007 for 2.5 years, using a Mini-Port adapter to DVI, and although my Macbook Pro (2009) recognizes the monitor in System Preferences, the monitor itself shows No Signal on screen and remains blank. I've tried 2 different DVI to DVI cables, 1 DVI to VGA cable, and nothing helps.
I've also tried connecting to another LCD panel display, and again the Macbook Pro (2009) recognized the external, but the external showed No Signal.
So, another day, I connected my Macbook Pro (2009) to a Dell LCD external at work using a different DVI to DVI cable, and it worked! So, I took home that DVI to DVI cable, hooked it up to my Thinkvision external, and again, the Macbook Pro recognizes that the external is there, but the external Thinkvision show No Signal, and remains blank. Trust me, I've switched the external between video inputs, with no success.
So, my question is: does the Macbook Pro only support CERTAIN external monitors? Why is it recognizing that the monitor is there, but there is no signal showing on the monitor? Could I simply have a faulty MiniPort to DVI adapter, and should return that?
Thanks for any advice you can give. Below, you'll see the System Profiler info, showing that it does recognize the monitor.
    Thanks,
    SB

Hi, I had the same issue and resolved it by getting rid of extra converters or adapters. What I mean is I went VGA from my monitor to a mini-dispaly VGA piece and into the MBP. Before I did it like that I was going VGA from my monitor to VGA-DVI-D adpater then to a mini-display DVI-D piece. I did that because I had an extra mini-display to DVI-D piece that I wanted to use instead of going out and buying a new kind. I called Apple support and they suggested that I scratch the VGA-DVI-D conversion to keep the conversions to a minimum. I plugged up the new mini-display to VGA piece and it worked like a charm! I have a MBP 15" (Late 2009) and the external monitor is a hp vs15. It worked for me. I dont know if you use any extra adapters like the kind I was using. If you do I suggest trying the hook up without it. Good Luck!

  • My activity monitor shows 24 lines of cpus.

That would be nice, but I have only 12 cores. Has anyone else seen this?

I thought that was possible but appreciate the validation.
What originally caught my eye was that only every other line in the activity monitor showed any activity. So I ran the hardware diagnostics to see if there was anything amiss. No problems were found. So it looks like the hyperthreading is not being used, but all the cores do participate to some extent.
I was involved in the signal processor industry in the 80s when the use of multiple processors was really getting going. Our system was synchronous, but even so, required a lot of planning to use efficiently. My work is mainly finite element analysis, Monte Carlo simulation and image processing, all of which can be programmed in parallel, so I expect to benefit from it at some point. So far 20-35% that you note is pretty accurate.

  • Camera and ipod shuffle do not show up on desk top when connected

Kodak camera and ipod shuffle do not show up on desk top when connected.  Trying to download pictures and adding my music to ipod shuffle, Anyone have any suggestions.

Have you plugged in another USB device to ensure that the USB ports are working?
Suggest you buy (about $10 - $20) a USB memory card reader. Just plug your camera's memory card into it & copy the pic files to your Mac. Quicker & easier than interfacing the camera for pic transfer.

  • External Monitor Shows Only Black Screen ??

Recently, my PowerBook G4 12" stopped working properly with my external monitor. My external monitor is a Dell 2005FPW that is connected to my laptop via a mini-DVI adapter, a VGA cable to the VGA port on the 2005FPW. When connected to the laptop, the 2005FPW goes black; otherwise, the monitor shows it's "rest" screen which is a bouncing color bar.
This system has worked without problems for years. I changed nothing in the configuration and (possible red herring) the only "event" prior to the problem developing was that I installed the "Security Update 2008-005 (PowerPC) v 1.0".
I have confirmed that the monitor and VGA cable are working with my wife's laptop.
Today, I replaced the mini-DVI to VGA adapter, and the problem hasn't gone away.
    Any suggestions?
    Michael

Did it develop around the same time, after you downloaded the security update?

  • How do I operate multiple monitors on my HP Pavilion Slimline Pavilion s3600t?

    Hello HP Forum,
I am looking to operate 2 monitors on my HP Pavilion Slimline Pavilion s3600t that currently has GeForce 7100/NVIDIA nForce 630i.  I am not a computer technician and only semi-tech saavy (less than more).  I was told I needed a video card; however, I don't know what I need nor how to install it. Can anyone tell me what I type of video card I need to purchase (and why) and then point me to a video or instructions on install?
Further, what would it take for a computer to operate 3 monitors?  Would this computer capable of operating 3 monitors? And what would that entail/how does it compare to installing options for 2 monitors?
    Thanks for your help guys!
    Cheers
