Monitor speaker purchase advice

Hi all, thought I'd get some opinions from you guys as I really don't know where to start.
I need some monitors, I don't want to spend too much. Budget of £300
They sell these powered monitors at my local Apple store. Has anybody used/got some of these KRK Rokit RP5?
http://www.turnkey.co.uk/product.php?itemid=8448
My friend has some of these and highly recommends them but I think they've stopped making them : /
http://www.tapcoworld.com/products/s5/
Let me know if you need any more information.
Many thanks

Things to consider:
1) What type of music? Your monitor choice might change if you're recording acoustic folk, or rock or electronic/club.
2) How big is your room, and does it have any acoustic treatment? Don't overdrive a tiny room, and money spent on room treatment will ultimately get you more bang for your buck than monitors. You don't have to buy expensive premade stuff - buy 703 panels and wrap them in burlap. Home made bass traps can be very cheap to make.
3) Whichever monitors you choose, be prepared to spend a lot of time learning them.
4) Never buy monitors without auditioning them. Find a good dealer where you can try out various brands, side-by-side, and bring a CD your own mixes and your favorite CD.

    Hi,
I'm trying to find a way to get in touch with an Azure Sales Representative to ask some specific questions about a project a client has asked us to work on for them.
I couldn't find any live chat or email options for pre-purchase advice, so if anybody could guide me in the right direction that would be great.

  • Monitor purchasing advice for a MacPro owner.

    Hello everyone!
I want to purchase a new Apple 27" Display. Obviously I would like to buy a Thunderbolt display as it seems the LED display will be on its way out as soon as a TB MacPro is released. When they do release a MacPro with TB I am planning on buying one as I'm way past due on an update.
If I buy the TB display today I have no way of connecting it to my current MacPro. My MacPro has a DVI connection. From what I see there is no way to connect a TB display to my Mac since it doesn't support TB. So means I have no option but to buy the LED version of the monitor and run an adapter (like the Atlona AT-DP400) since my MacPro only has 2 DVI ports.
Once again, here's where the problem arises. When they do release a MacPro with TB (keeping my fingers crossed there will be one out late next year), how will I be able to use this LED monitor? I run a duel-monitor set-up. If I buy a TB monitor next year with the new Macpro I won't be able to use it since from what I understand you cannot plug the LED monitor into the back of the TB monitor and expect it to work.
So what to do? What is the best buying advice you could give someone in my situation? I had one of my 23" Cinema Displays die on me so I'm in the market for a display right away. I do Graphic Design so color is very important (so I don't want to buy a used 23" to get me by till a new MacPro is released since the color does degrade as time goes by.)
Also, what are your thoughts on a new MacPro? I know Apple stated they have something planned for late next year. Would it be rediculous to hope that it has 2 TB ports where I could plug a TB display into one and the LED into the other? Or is that just impossible as TB is suppose to be used as a daisychain? I don't know too much about TB. This is where opinions are welcome as I know that nobody knows what Apple has in store for the new MacPro.
I'm frazzled and want to make sure I spend my $999 wisely. Thank you so much in advance for your help.

That would be fantastic, I'll keep my fingers crossed as well. My current MacPro (6 years old) just isn't working very well with CS6 Photoshop (guess the ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB isn't really supported.) Anyhow, thought it would be best to hold out until we see a MacPro with Thunderbolt before I buy a new one.
These new 27" Displays sure are nice though. I'm running it along side my 23" Cinema Display. Like people have mentioned, the glare is a bit distracting since I have windows behind me, but overall I'm very happy with it. I only wish I could set the resolution of the two monitors so when I drag a window from one monitor to the other the size of the window would stay the same.
    Thanks for your input!

  • Monitor Purchase Advice

About to upgrade to a new G5 (QuadCore or the Mid Range Model) It's also time to get a new monitor... Appreciate all feedback.
Would like to keep price to about $1000, Need:
    21" or better,
very good (out of box) color translation (monitor to local Desktop printers),
and excellent text clarity (My eyes are goin bleary).
Good Manufacturer support a big plus
Don't care if CRT or LCD (quality more important)
    thanks in advance,
    xandra

I just upgraded from an old white frame Apple LCD to this:
    http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/lcddisplays/proseries/vp2130b/ #specs
I don't have it yet but will post a review for you once I get it and test it compared to my old Apple LCD, if you'd like.
This Viewsonic monitor can be found for under $1000 and if the specs are "True" they are a good run at the Apple Display. I'll post a review once I hook up the monitor and try it for a few days...I chose ground shipping because it was Free so give me a few days to post a review. The only loss is that I won't have a power button or prefs button on the monitor anymore because this monitor is DVI. I still can do the screen rotation with the ATI software but not with the Viewsonic software.
Something to look at though, Good Luck in your search.

  • Speaker/sound advice

A kinda off topic question but hopefully someone can help:
I want some advice on a sound setup for my home, i want surround sound in my livingroom with wireless speakers for use this with my tv, PC, Hi-fi and maybe other appliances.
Also i would like to be able to (if not straight away) roll this setup to other speakers in other rooms of the house and be able to control which appliances/speakers are in use.
I wasnt sure where to start with this, but figured music junkies who use the apple forum might be a good source of knowledge! if you think im asking in the wrong place then a link to a more suitable place would be helpfull
as you can likely guess im on a kinda budget, so the cheaper the better!

    Hello peterrayner,
It sounds like after updating to iOS 7 your earpiece speaker is not working correctly and you must use the speaker.
I would recommend a few things here.
First close all the apps that are running on the device.
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the phone:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, I would next backup your device to iTunes, and restore it:
iOS: How to back up and restore your content

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Deadline monitoring/Escalation - Purchase Requisition Workflow WS20000077

    Dear Friends,
I have read some stuff on SDN but still couldnt figure out the soultion.
Its a common problem. We have set a release strategy in Purchase Requisition and are using std workflow WS20000077.
Now the requirement is that if an approver doesnt approve in 2 days time then the PR will automatically go to the next approver for release.
I have set the deadline monitoring using the workflow wizard for model deadline monitoring. With this, The work item gets deleted from the approvers inbox. Next in the obsolete path I have set a process control which specifies the worklow step as the step in which deadline monitoring was specified.
When I check in SWI1, the work item is set as obsolete but it doesnt go to the next approver for approval.
Your replies will be highly apprecialted.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Fawaz

    Hi
    For your Requirment :
"the requirement is that if an approver doesnt approve in 2 days time then the PR will automatically go to the next approver for release."
Please follow the below steps.in copy of  WS20000077.
1.For taskTS20000159:Overall release of requisition , go to
Latest END tab:  put ACtion as :Modeled ,  Refer.date/time:Workitem creation , below time : choses: DAY,  and on left add 2.
    Outcome :Deadline Montoring.
2.Then come to OUTcomes tab of the same task:  see  there are 3 lines 1.Step executed, 2.Latest end:Deadline Montoring, 3.Processing obsolete:Processing obsolete ,, all are ACTIVE or not , if not, Activate .then  all should be Green.
4.next in the OUtcome :Deadline Montoring , use a process control step. to Set missed workitem to obsolete,  in Function: chose : set Work item   to Obsolute. and Workflow Step : chose then step no for the above task(TS20000159:Overall release of requisition).
5.In "Processing obsolete" path, again call the same task TS20000159. in different activity . and see to the agent assignment.
I think this will slove your problem.
    How it works:
1st the PR is send in a WI to the perticular agent by the 1st activity . if the agent do not execute for 2 days. then that WI will set to obsolute . and process flow to" Processing obsolete" path, then agian PR is send to the next agent using the same task but activity created in  step 5.
    thanks
    Kakoli.

    Hello SAP Gurus,
I am looking for any reports that will allow monitoring of our purchasing procedures for example:

  • 1st Time Purchaser - Advice Please!

    Hi
I am due to go in to hospital for major surgery and have decided to purchase an iPad to take in with me to help pass the time pre & post surgery. I will be using it to watch catch-up TV, eg 4oD, ITV Player etc, read books downloaded from Kindle (via an app), use the internet to browse & email and keep in touch with family/friends via Skype & FaceTime.
I was going to purchase an iPad 2 from a family friend (I posted a discussion about this yesterday) but they have now upped the price & I think it will end up out of my budget, so, I'd appreciate if someone could advise me what would be a good option for me, as I haven't a clue! I don't travel much, would use wifi at home but the 3G while in hospital and for future stays. I may download a couple of movies for my hospital stay but wouldn't use iPad for movies at home.
Via Apple and 'Refurbished', there are the following options in my price range/that I can stretch to:
    iPad 2 wifi & 3G  16GB       £319
    iPad 3rd Generation wifi & 3G    16GB    £375
    iPad 2 wifi & 3G  32GB    £379
I know I won't be able to afford to upgrade the iPad in the near future so I will have it for a good few years most probably. I have gathered the 3rd Generation has better screen quality due to Retina, but is 16GB enough as I can't stretch to the 32GB for it?
    Any advice would be great!

    Hi Everyone!
Just to say a big thank you for all your advice and pointing me in the right direction for info'. I have had some great news, my mom is going to give me the extra money to buy a Refurbished iPad 3rd Generation 32GB wifi & cellular, that comes in at £429 and then I have the peace of mind of the 1 year guarantee and the option to purchase extended cover with AppleCare. Plus as I will be using it with a Kindle App to read, I looked on YouTube and there was a big difference between the two for doing this & Apple confirmed it for me.
I am at my hospital quite a bit and the wifi there is hit & miss, my mobile works ok on 3G there.
Buying a cellular gives me the option of using the iPad when I'm not in a free wifi area, in hospital, or for travelling etc (I have family in Spain & Turkey and once I'm recovered and back on my feet in 6 months or so I can visit them and if needed buy a micro sim in either country for 1 month). I would only purchase a micro-sim when needed and GiffGaff (02 network)  or 3 do good 1 month only contract prices, 1GB with GiffGaff  & 3 for a month is £7.50, 10GB with 3 is £15. There is no upfront cost too.
Now, there is only one more dilemma...... Black or White!!!!!
Thanks again everyone and I'm sure I'll be back on here with numerous 'duh!' questions when I get my iPad!!
    Dea.

  • I Need Purchasing Advice

Sorry if this isn't the place for this thread but I couldn't think of a better place for it. So I have a Nokia N810 ( http://europe.nokia.com/A4568578 ) which I was really excited about when I first got it, I thought it was THE device I wanted, handheld mobile browsing, widescreen high res excellent for watching movies on, 3rd party app capability but after a few months of using it I find it's not quite what I wanted. I'm now seriously considering buying a 32gb iTouch, but I have a few questions first. I'd like to know if it's worth buying one now or waiting until after the June update with the new firmware, and if so, what exactly will the improvements mean? I know the app store will open up for the touch devices but will these applications be free or not? What sort of developers are we expecting applications from? Professional companies? Single developers? Or both?
What's the maximum limit of movies I'd be able to watch on the iTouch? Full length dvd rips? (From dvd's I have purchased of course). How is its performance? Does it stutter/freeze when it plays large movie files? I'm sure I'll be filling it up many full length high quality movies. Speaking of quality, is it possible to have a full movie play at full quality or will it be too taxing on the device?
Sorry about the large chunk of text and all the questions, I know it's a lot to answer but it's a big decision, financially (not so wealthy student here). Also after the June update can we expect Flash support? One of the things I love about the n810 is the way it can handle any website with any content, especially Flash content. What is the iTouch's Safari un/capable of? Also I'm a bit unclear on the multi-tasking abilities of the touch, is it able to keep more than one app open at once or not? I understand that at the moment there's no way of switching between open apps, but do you think there will be?
Oh and one more silly thing, is it possible to plug in your own headphones if they're not the Apple ones? I've never actually seen anyone using other headphones on a touch!
Thanks for reading this far if you have and I hope I can get some answers That's all for now but I'll be posting more questions as they come to me,
    Regards.

I'd like to know if it's worth buying one now or waiting until after the June update with the new firmware, and if so, what exactly will the improvements mean?
*If you buy now, the update will cost you a nominal amount of money, but maybe that won't be so nominal to you. That's the only factor. Will you mind spending another $5 or $10 or $20 or whatever it is? If so, wait a few weeks.*
I know the app store will open up for the touch devices but will these applications be free or not?
*Some will be free, some will not. Probably the ones that are not will be relatively cheap, but we'll just have to see.*
What sort of developers are we expecting applications from? Professional companies? Single developers? Or both?
*Both. It's wide open and anyone can write an app and submit it to Apple to be included in the store. I'm sure we'll see dozens if not hundreds of developers in short order.*
What's the maximum limit of movies I'd be able to watch on the iTouch? Full length dvd rips? (From dvd's I have purchased of course).
*Not sure on specific file length, but I have several full-length movies on my iPod Touch and it hardly taxes the limit. The 32GB version gives you a LOT of room.*
How is its performance? Does it stutter/freeze when it plays large movie files?
    *Nope, works just fine.*
Is it possible to have a full movie play at full quality or will it be too taxing on the device?
*Very possible, not taxing at all.*
Also after the June update can we expect Flash support?
*Nope, unless Steve changes his mind. Maybe someday, but not in the immediate future, that's for sure.*
What is the iTouch's Safari un/capable of?
*Java and Flash. Note Javascript is fine, but not Java.*
Also I'm a bit unclear on the multi-tasking abilities of the touch, is it able to keep more than one app open at once or not?
*Yes, it can keep apps frozen at its current state when you jump to another app, but there is no background processing going on. When you return to that first app, it picks up right where it left off.*
I understand that at the moment there's no way of switching between open apps, but do you think there will be?
*You can switch between open apps as I said above. It's just not multitasking those open apps.*
Oh and one more silly thing, is it possible to plug in your own headphones if they're not the Apple ones? I've never actually seen anyone using other headphones on a touch!
*Yes, whatever will fit into the plug will work since it's a standard plug, but it is recessed a bit so you have to make sure your specific headphone will fit. But if it fits, it will work.*

  • MBP Purchasing Advice for a G5 user

Hi there. I'm a former PC user and I recently inherited my son's PowerPC G5 with 24 inch display that I absolutely love. it has OSX 10.4 and I use it for alot of graphics applications...all of the Adobe Creative Suite CS4 stuff. web sites, photoshop, Indesign, etc. really love that computer.
but i need portability for travel, which i do alot of. i'm struggling with which MBP to purchase. I'd like to continue to use the G5 at home, and have it be my primary graphics station, and only use the MBP for travel. but the MBP still needs to be able to run all the CS4 stuff. so, which MBP should i buy and is it silly to keep using the G5 for my primary work? it works really well for all of my needs.
also, i understand the G5 is stuck at OSX 10.4 and can't be upgraded higher. will the new MBP with snow leopard introduce complexities when i am going between the two, exchanging files, etc?
    thanks for any advice.

I'd recommend the 15 in MBP. And in particular, if you can, the 2nd MBP. For several reasons. One will be screen size. Especially with graphic programs, big screens are invaluable. I couldn't do my web design on a tiny 13 in screen. The 15 in also have a bigger battery which will help with travel.
The 13 and the first MacBook Pro all have the 9400 graphics card. Which isn't as good as the previous graphics processor (8600). If you got the step up MBP it would have the 9400 and the 9600. The latter of which is definitely better. This allows for the battery to last longer on the standard graphics processor, but can easily switch over to the discreet graphics card when it needs to.
I haven't really done much with 10.4 so I am not sure about software. If you still have the discs yes! You should just be able to reinstall the programs on your new computer. As long as the software is generally newer and supports leopard, it should support snow leopard. There is a list of software that has problems available here (http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/).
As for exchanging files! You should be good there. It's still going from a Mac to a Mac. Even going to windows there usually isn't a problem.
    Hope I helped!

  • OT: Monitor/Speaker Stands

    Hi guys,
I am really sorry for the OT but I am not sure who to turn to . I am looking into buying stands for my monitors and was wondering if anybody came across anything that might fit my requirements while surfing the net and would care to share links -- my current ones are soo unstable my heart is skipping a beat every time somebody passes by them with my monitors on them . Price is really irrelevant; what I am looking for is 35-36', metal, preferably four post but other configs are also welcome as long as they are stable, fillable is also prefered. They should be able to supoprt ~19kg/40lbs(for a pair of Dynaudio BM15A's), they will be on a thick carpet so spiking is a plus but not a must since the floor under the carpet is abrand new hardwood and will probably add coasters underneath :-| ... The main thing is stability. My current ones are 36' Bello's and at that weight/height they are no good (they were awesome with the Event 20/20bas).
Thank you very much in advance for all your help! I really appreciate it.
P.S. Just aquick note -- sound anchors are ...uu...well... awesome but ~$800 quote (before shipping) ... still debating... hence my current search for other options.

  • Media Drive purchasing advice

I would really appreciate some advice on purchasing some additional storage. I currently use two 2TB unstriped internal drives with very few problems. I edit with ProRes 422 LT 720p 60. More space is needed so I am looking at buying either 1). another internal drive, 2). A CalDidgit VR 4TB drive, or 3). a Cal Digit AV drive w/ USB 3.0
RAID protection is not a huge issue. Fan noise is an issue though. It is very pleasant in my suite now since I use internals. But, I am sure more speed would be nice. Thoughts?
Your input will be greatly appreciated.
    Best.
    Tom

Skip the USB3 drive...no macs have USB3. I highly recommend the Caldigit VR drives. Spendy, but worth it.
Also look at the Mercury Elite Pro drives from otherworldcomputing.com. Cheaper.

  • Need Purchasing Advice MacBook Pro or iMac

I use two old G5 Power PC's at home and work (circa 2004 or 05 for both) and I am looking at strategies to replace them with newer hardware. I need advice from computer experts on what makes the most sense.
At the core, I am considering purchasing one of the following two machines:
    *27" iMac: 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7*
*MacBook Pro: 2.66GHz Intel Core i7*
I will pair one of the above with the : G-Technology 4TB G-RAID Dual-Drive Storage.
Whatever I purchase, I will use the new Mac at home and/or work to edit HD video, develop websites, create presentations, etc.
Initially, I was thinking of using the MacBook Pro because it would provide me a powerful machine for home and work, and allow me to present away from the office using the same machine.
The alternative would be to stick with one of the G5's and replace the other with the iMac. I could then purchase a small regular MacBook or iPad for live presentations.
I also realize that the new Mac pro is not far away, but I don't know that I want to spend the extra money for that much machine.
So, the bottom line, I'm looking to produce a solution that:
    • Improves the speed and performance for HD video editing (at home, work or both)
    • Allows me to make presentations away from the office
    • Is under $4k
    • Is a reliable and convenient solution
    My choices are:
    a) iMac + small device (iPad or Macbook, new or used)
    b) MacBook Pro
    c) A better solution I haven't considered
What makes the most sense? What would you do and why?
THANK YOU in advance for any advice you might provide.
    JJ

I would get a 17" Macbook Pro. It has an Expresscard/34 slot that will accept an eSata card. This will allow you to take full advantage of the G-Tech Raid O's speed for editing video.

  • Apple Remote Desktop - Pre purchase advice please!

I received a Mac Lab this year and I am looking for the best way to administer it.
Here is what I have available:
    1 MacBook (Last gen white)
20 MacBook Pro 13 (New this year)
    10 MacPro g5
I use the white MacBook as my main computer (for now).
    Questions:
Do I need a server to use ARD?
Will I be able to administer the older G5's?
Can I do it all from my white MacBook?
Is there a better option in the same price range?
    Any advice is appreciated.

    1. No

    Hi,
I need a new joystick. It should be
    - supported without fuss
    - have force feedback
    - be cheap
    and
    - someone knows the cedega config string for it.
    Please add your advice. Thanks.

I really like the PSX joypads especially the black one that comes with PS2. You can find a PSX -> USB adapter for ~20 Euros - which works great under linux - and with ~30 E buy two PSX joysticks.
btw. all usb joysticks should work fine under linux without fuss.
