Monitor the data collection

How can we know if there is no data collected for a server on a specific monitor item/performance rules? Could there be an alert generated if there is no data collection from the server?

First of all, SCOM has no built-in mechanism in keep tracking the functioanality of performance data collection. SCOM agent stores performance data in local data store, c:\porgram file\Microsoft Monitoring Agent\Agent\Health Service State\Health Service
Store\healthserviceStore.edb. Then it will push data into SCOM DB. Once its data is transmitt to SCOM DB, its data is clear. As a result, it is not feasible to recover performance data from the client size.
1) no data collected: Usually, a grey agent under discovered inventory indicates that the agent loss connection to managment server and performance data cannot push into SCOM DB.
2) Database Corrupt: I think that you should recover from your backup and SCOM agent will store its performance locally until the DB is recovery.

  • Performance Monitor Remote Data Collection unable to get data

    When attempting data collection of a remote Windows 2008 server (Server_B) from another W2k8 server (Server_A) I receive the following error:  "When attempting to start the Data Collector Set the following system error occurred:  No data to
    return."
    However remote real-time monitoring of Server_B is no problem.  Also, local real-time monitoring and data collection of Server_A is successful.
    Is the error due to security restrictions?

    Hi Scott,
    Would you please let me know whether have administrator rights on the server trying to collect data collector set?
    Please type services.msc on RUN. When Services panel opened, please navigate to Performance Logs & Alerts
    service and check if it started. Meanwhile, please temporarily disable firewall and monitor the result.
    In addition, please refer to following KB and check if can help you.

  • Monitor the data change

    Hello guys,
    I have a little problem here. I got the data stream from the data acquisition device, and the data could be indicated on a chart. I could see the waveform on the Labview front panel, and even got the data value from the indicator. However, I need to record the data at one moment, and record another data after a small time interval. Then, I need to monitor the data change.  Any good idea? Thank you!

    Thank you for your reply.
    I would like to monitor the data, when the data sudden drop-down, I could send a message to switch off the system. My idea is obtain a data at one moment and obtain another data after a small time interval. When the change is larger than acceptable value, I switch it off.
    Could you show me more detail about single point acquisition? So appreciate!

  • Shell script to monitor the data guard

    Hi,
    Can any body please provide the shell scripts to monitor the data guard in all scenarios and to get the mail when problem occurs in dataguard.
    Thanks,

    Sorry Mahi. Looks like all of the scripts i've got are for logical standbys and not physical. Have a look at the link ualual posted - easy enough to knock up a script from one or more of those data dictionary views. Just had a look on metalink and there's what looks to be a good script in note 241438.1. Its a good starting point definately.

  • How to create monitor based on the data collected by rule?

    I have an application which comes with a built-in command: GetBackLogNm.exe. Running this command can get the current backlog number in the system.
    Now I need to create a monitor which should trigger the alert if the backlog keeps increasing for 2 hours. I am thinking of creating a rule which run command GetBackLogNm.exe to get the number and save it into DW. Then create a monitor based on the collected
    data. Is it the correct way? If so, can anyone give me a outline how to do so? An example would be much appreciated if possible.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jonathan, thanks for the quick reply. But System.ConsolidatorCondition seems only available for SCOM 2012. I didn't find it in 2007 libraries.
    However the idea your and Vladimir showed in this
    post is really helping. I kind of solved the issue not using the exactly the components (since it is available in 2012 only) but following the same logic.
    In general I did this:
    1. create a script rule which execute the command to get backlog number; then save the log number in the DW and the registry.
    2. just like System.Performance.DeltaValueCondition, when the second time the rule triggered by schedule, it will compare the current backlog number and the last known number stored in the registry. If the value is exceeding given threshold AND bigger than
    the last known back log number, the rule increase an counter which is also stored in the registry
    3. create an unit monitor to monitor the counter stored in the registry and will trigger the alert if the counter exceeding a given value.
    This solved the issue. But I feel a little not comfortable to store data in the registry.
    So one quick question which might be out of the this topic: what is a good way to store the data generated by one workflow and then share it with another workflow or reuse sometime later? In my case here, I used the registry key. Cook down is one option
    to share data but it is very strict and can't solve the issue I have in this case.
    Thanks again!

  • Is there a way to export the data collected with PDF forms, and saved via FormsCentral, into a MS Excel or Access file format?

    or Is there another place to save data collected by PDF forms other than FormsCentral? e.g. another database on the web server that presents the form?

    Hi,
    Yes, you can export user responses into an excel file. To do that, open the responses tab, select Files -> Export Responses and select Microsoft Excel to export response data into.

    Hi Anuj,
    First, this sounds like a very cool application.  What are you measuring? Is it in vivo?
    I believe that I see what you are referring to--is it where your cursor is that you are seeing the "step" problem?  Also, could you give us a little more information aboutwhat type of data we are looking at?  Is this some sort of image analysis data?
    In terms of code structure, due to the way that LabVIEW handles image data types (it is essentially a pointer to the data instead of the data itself), I wouldn't recommend passing an image via a queue.
    So, please let me know a bit more about what type of data we are looking at, and what your code looks like, and I'll be happy to help.

  • Can I add more then one mask item on the data collection ?

    Hi,
    I have a requirement, for example as follows.
    ex.
    Data collection: DC01
    Parameter 1: P1 and Type is text.
    P1 parameter just only allow two values, "AB" or "CD".
    Data collection's mask can do that?  If not, any good soultion can do that?
    thanks!

    Hi,
    There might be the case to use Formula to interpret the input value to one of 3 possible options.
    Though, you can consider the easier approach:
    - set the parameter type to Numeric;
    - set MIN = 1;
    - set MAX = 3;
    - set Mask = #.
    This implies that only 1, 2, or 3 can be entered.
    In Data Collection Prompt, you can decribe which number corresponds to which colour.

  • CCMS monitoring data collection

    Hi,
    I have set up CCMS to show alerts for inbound IDOC errors.
    This seems to be working correctly, but the status is not being updated when the data collection method is being run. The data collection is set to run once per hour.
    best regards,
    Jason.

    Hello Jason,
    the IDOC monitoring functionality in CCMS is somewhat limited and cumbersome to set up via transaction BDMO. Far more sophisticated is the corresponding capability in Business Process Monitoring where you can monitor IDOCs regarding certain status and there it is also possible to monitor with a higher frequncy than just one hour.
    More information on IDOC monitoring and other interface monitoring capabilities can be found in the corresponding Setup Guide from Q4/2008 that you find under
    https://service.sap.com/bpm --> Media Library --> Technical Information.

  • Data Collection Set 'Server Activity' Failure Waiting on a kernel object(s) failed. Inner Error ------------------ The handle is invalid.

    All of the system data collection sets have been running for 6+ months without any issues, couple of weeks ago the 'Server Activity' collection set failed to restart after a planned maintenance server reboot.
    When attempting to manually start the collection set it indicates "success", but after refreshing the collection set it showing as stopped. Viewing the logs for the Data Collection (Server Activity) I am getting the message:
    Waiting on a kernel object(s) failed. Inner Error ------------------>
    The handle is invalid.
    After some research into this really unhelpful message I came across one posting where this error has been found to occur in SP1. We are running SP2 which include the fix so this shouldn't be the problem (ref http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/585210/sql-server-2008-data-collection-execmasterpackage-timeout).
    To see more detail on the root cause of the error I enabled the additional tracing for data collection (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlagent/archive/2011/07/13/enabling-additional-tracing-for-data-collector.aspx). This provided an exception stack which indicated
    that the issue was thrown to what looks like an existing file, referring to a location (e:\) which doesn't exist in our system.

    I am now stumped as I haven't found anyone else experiencing this issue.
    Any ideas, please help??

    Thanks for the pointer Eileen, problem solved.
    Can't believe I missed it, but after reading the last section on system hangs it occurred to me that I hadn't checked that all dcexec.exe processes were killed when I disable the data collection service.
    For anyone else experiencing this issue I identified the dcexec.exe processes using the following in cmd line:
    TASKLIST /SVC /FI "IMAGENAME EQ DCEXEC.EXE"
    On the default setup of the data collection there should be two dcexec.exe processes constantly running, one for "Server Activity" and another for "Query Statistics". On our server there were five running with the data collection disabled.
    After killing all of the processes and restarting the data collection problem solved!!
    Still need to understand why the processes didn't shut down cleanly when the server was restarted, but at least I know where to look now.
