Monitor Turning Off

My brand new iMac monitor keeps turning off, the computer is on, just the monitor keeps shutting off.

If this is happening while you are using your machine, i.e., it's not otherwise "idle", you should be under applecare.  Tell them to replace the machine considering it's a defective brand new machine.  That's what I would do.

Press any key on the wireless keyboard after you close the MBP and it goes to sleep. The computer will wake up with the external monitor as its display. This is called Clamshell mode.

  • Monitor turning off strangely

    Hello folks,
I'm having a strange issue with a computer I use as a media center. XFCE4 running on Arch. Everything works great except for the fact that the monitor turns off at random. It's not frequent, but once every 10-20 minutes it will happen. Now the weird thing is that the video playback continues, when I move the mouse the monitor wakes up and the video has been playing.
I even tried power settings where nothing ever turns off, but it doesn't seem to help.
    Any ideas or similar problems?

I can think of 2 options.
    One is the screensaver...
The other is your dpms settings.   I have in my ~/.xresources file
    xset -dpms s off &
    to turn it off.

  • M93p dual monitor problems; monitor turns off and cannot be turned on again

    Hi,
we have multiple M93p tiny computers causing problems in dual monitor setup (VGA / Displayport->DVI). Our users (already >5)  keep telling us, they leave their workplace, return, then DVI attached monitor if off and they do not find a way to turn it on. This is true; the only workaround that has been found by our users is to bring Win7/32bit into standby mode and awaking it again.
Needless to say, we turned all windows energy saving options off (computer standby/hibernate, monitor turn off). Still the problem appears.
Maybe there is something wrong with DVI power/DVI signal?
    - Monitor independent, as far as I can see
    - Independent from Windows energy saving modes
    - BIOS updates did not help
[todo]: Try Intel/(AMD?) drivers, let users test.
I haven't seen exactly when the monitor turns off because it is reported by users. I had a testing machine, but was not able to reproduce.
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/A-M-and-Edge-Series-ThinkCentre/Dual-monitors-problem-VGA-and-Displaypor... is related.
    Anyone?
    Thx

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

  • Monitor turns off to sleep but computer stays on???

Monitor turns off to sleep but computer stays on???
Any clues why? I can only shut-down and it gets annoying because I like to be working in less than a minute after powering up. Any things to look for to help?

    Thanks,
don't know why it'd matter if I had a warranty or not since the function
in question is apart of what I'm supposed to be getting w/ cost of computer.
Time to load the overpriced 1 ton computer into the car and demand they fix it at the apple store. This is absurd since I originally bought this computer for music creating and it's the most unreliable computer EVER as far as stability for music. My audiophile records for like 10 sec. before the sound cuts out, everytime, but of course that's not apple's fault.
Never buying apple again. This is straw that broke the camels back. Anyone wanna trade a pc for my G5?
Sorry for the venting but this is where I draw the line!
    Thanks,
    Henry

  • [S]iMac with additional monitor: built-in monitor turns off at startup

    Hi,
I'm using an iMac Intel (2007) with an external monitor. I used to have the external one on the left and the iMac on the right.
Everything was fine until today, when I *just* moved external monitor on the right and changed my xrandr script like this:
xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1680x1050 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal --output DIN --off --output DVI-0 --mode 1920x1080 --pos 1680x0 --rotate normal
The thing is that now when I turn on the computer the built in monitor turns off as the startup process reaches the Xorg phase.
Do you have any ideas about why this happens?
I didn't touch the Xorg configuration at all, when I installed the system both monitors were recognized correctly.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Monitor turns off at high resolution

    Hi there,
I attached an external monitor via displayport to my lenovo x230 (Intel HD4000).
If I set the resolution to be 1920x1080 (or lower) everything runs fine. If I switch to the monitors native resolution (1920x1200) the monitor turns off after about 1 minute. The monitor tries to turn on again for two to three times, but only for few seconds.
If I dual boot to windows the monitor is running fine.
Any idea what might be the cause and how to fix it?
    Thanks a lot

Config xorg, driver installed .... pick up the crystal ball and  your answer in my thinkpad t430u (hd4000) with intel-dri, run perfect at 2560x..  or just the monitor is failing because raisins resolution supporting, i don't no. luck

  • Monitor turns off after upgrade[SOLVED]

  • T440 external monitor turns off

I have two T440s that will turn off the external monitor(s) while you are using them. The 440 is docked and using a 22" external monitor, mopuse and keyboard. I installed Windows 7 ENT and used the lenovo TVSU to update all the drivers and the power management. You can be sitting there working alond and suddenly the external monitor goes black. If you move the mouse to laptop LCD and change the refresh rate, it will turn the external monitor back on. Nothing else seems to make it come back on. I have another T440 that works fine in the same dock. the only difference is that the one that works correctly, still has the original Lenovo image on it. No drivers are missing. Any ideas what I need to install or update to get this working correctly?

If it is a permanent solution, than great job, but doing it on over 10 000 laptops it is not practical solution.
Fortunately there was patch released for solving this problem of hardware compatibility bettwen laptop and docking station.
    http://speedy.sh/dRhJw/fwdphb01.exe
To make it work laptop must be in docking station before running this softwate.
Hope this will help anyone who still have this problem.

  • Itunes randomly plays music when monitor turns off?

I'm having the weirdest problem ever. If itunes is open, when I turn off my monitor, my itunes randomly starts playing music. This happens if my ipod is connected or not. It's kind of annoying. Is there a option that I can turn off this? thanks.

That's not a built-in feature. You must have installed some third-party software that uses motion sensing to control iTunes.

  • MBP goes sleep mode when ext. monitor turns off

Hi, sorry I couldn't find the exact answer, so I opened up a new topic. My MBP is connected to an external monitor with HDMI and I am using MBP with lid closed. But when I turn off the monitor, MBP goes to sleep mode. Can I prevent this? I need to let MBP work while external monitor is turned off. I tried Insomnia software but couldn't make it.
    Thanks.

I have exactly this issue. I closed the lid last night and woke this morning to a very hot machine. It had not entered sleep mode.
When you close the lid, my Macbook enters sleep mode for a few seconds, then the external monitor wakes up.
If you 'force' sleep by on/off button it seems OK. Help!
PS: Should have said all this happened after upgrade to Lion yesterday.

  • Satellite M200 monitor turns Off after boot & battery won't charge

    Hello, I'm from Jakarta, Indonesia
I have a problem with my Toshiba Satellite M200 Notebook (Running Windows 7 Home Premium)
after i press the power button to power up my notebook, It works fine showing BIOS and Windows Boot Screen,
but after that my monitor just suddenly turn off when Windows supposed to show login screen.
sometimes the monitor don't turn off, but shows lower resolution (i don't know exactly what resolution, maybe 1024x768 or 800x600, i'm using 1280x800)
so the only thing i can do is press the power button again to shutdown improperly then press the power again to power up, my monitor works normally
try to shutdown then power up again in couple hours later, the problems comes again.
from the moment i install Windows 7, i use 8.15.10.1930 driver version (downloaded from Intel Download Center, which included Intel TV Wizard)
2 days ago my friend said that i should install the driver from Toshiba's support site, so i went to csd.toshiba.com and download the 8.15.10.1825 version from that site (which not included Intel TV Wizard )
my monitor works normally after I installed the driver i've got from csd.toshiba.com, so i think that the problem because Intel TV Wizard somehow messed up with my notebook. But this morning this problem comes again, my monitor just turns off suddenly ..
besides this problem my battery seems like failed to recharge, Windows shows my battery has fully charged, but when i plugged out my AC adapter,
it just remains for 15-20 minutes before my notebook shut down automatically
three months ago i just brought my notebook to local Toshiba Service Center and bought new motherboard to replace my old mobo (which have a VGA issue too!)
there's something i can do (related to Windows or software/driver) or i have to bring my notebook to the service center again?
are they somehow make a wrong wiring when replacing my motherboard?
and am i have to replace my battery pack too?
i've been using this notebook for about a year and half and there's nothing wrong with my battery before replacing the motherboard
any help would be appreciated :D

well, i can't find my model's driver in Toshiba Europe site,
in Satellite M series it only shows M100 and M70 and not including M200
i found http://pc.toshiba-asia.com which covering my region. after choosing my product they give me link to download Windows 7 driver, here's the link
    http://support.toshiba-tie.co.jp/windows7/download/Satellite_M200_32_sp.htm
    Windows7 Driver | Intel Display Driver | 8.15.10.1825
they have the same driver version (and same size too) with my current driver i've got from csd.toshiba.com
any other ideas besides the driver issue ?

  • Monitor Turns off System Freeze

    Hey everyone,
Unfortunately I am back with another problem.  I had been running a very stable system with no problems for a very long time but recently my system developed a problem without any changes to hardware or software.
Randomly my monitor began to go into sleep mode (sometimes while running applications others while just running idle on the desktop). I would try and turn the monitor off and then back on again but it would go right back into the sleep state.  The system would still be on (I dont know if it locked up or not, but i think it was).  When I hit the reset button sometimes the monitor would come on and then would work fine for a boot or two before I would experience the problem again or the monitor would not start at all and the system hung in the boot process.
In a couple early instances I recieved an error message (in windows after a reboot) saying that there was a problem caused by my graphics card.  So I swaped out the 6600gt with an older 16mb TNT2 with its older nvidia drivers.  I am experiencing the same problems with that card.
also a couple times right as I restarted the computer after one of these problems I got a blue screen that said there was a problem and had to be restarted with more information but it always restarted before I could read any more of it.
Currently I removed one stick of ram to see if that has something to do with it.
Does anyone have an suggestions on how to go about fixing/diagnosing this problem?

Sorry Glenn, I should have read my own post.  What I meant to say was that, I do NOT know how a bad monitor could cause boot problems.
After removing one stick of ram I have still experienced the problem.  The monitor went black and the light on it went orange.  If I unplug the monitor and plug it back in it turns on then goes right back into standby.  I plugged in a very old monitor and was able to get a picture (although messed up from what I think is either a driver issue or a bad old monitor) but I was able to move the mouse around and open folders.  So, the system does not freeze when the monitor shuts off.  I then restarted the computer with the test monitor and it booted into windows fine.  However, the computer then froze seconds later.  I still had a picture however.  I do not understand if this is a related issue (I am thinking yes).  Nor do I understand what this all means.  I am incapable of figuring out what in the world all of this could caused by.  Do I try a new monitor?  Is it the computer power supply?  Even though the power supply is less than 6 months old.  How could a monitor affect the system like this?  If the power supply in the monitor was going bad why would it work for a couple days then have the problem then go back to working again?
    UPDATE:
So, I turned my computer off to put back in the other stick of ram since that stick can't be the problem.  When I tried to reboot the computer I immediately received a beep then another then another.  One beep every 5 seconds.  Additionally, only the number 1 light (top left) on the d-bracket was green.  I reset the computer and got the same response.  So i unplugged it for 15 seconds and then hit the power button and everything was fine.
This is very frustrating but, please someone help me!  Thank you.

I have problem with my imac 27 "i5 2.7 ghz 4gb of ram with video card AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB bought used not under warranty.
In practice, for the first 2 days no problem but then suddenly began to fade with the monitor frequency is not standardized.
I am sure that is not to shut down the mac because the mac but the monitor continues to make sounds when you turn off.
I've tried both to reset the PRAM is to initialize it with os x 10.8 (2 times with updates) and also installing windows 8 but nothing for the first few days but then here goes the problem recur please help me.

Sound like a hardware issue but this is tough to tell. Run Apple's Hardware Test in extended mode at least 2-3 times. If errors appear you have confirmed a hardware issue and the machine needs to go in for service.
