Monitor wakes unexpectedly

This problem pertains to my wife's mini (1.42 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 10.4.3), not my own machine.
We recently had a problem where she couldn't use printer sharing to print through the printer connected by USB to my machine. Resetting the NVRAM seems to have cleared that up, but has created a new problem.
Normally we do not power-down or sleep our machines: we let the displays shut off after a few idle minutes, though. Since resetting the NVRAM on her machine, her display (a Dell 19" LCD, fwiw) will periodically activate itself. I haven't timed the interval, but it seems to happen roughly every 3 hours. I've checked the Energy Saver pref panel, and it seems to be set the way I want.
I'm comfortable dropping into Terminal and munging around in there--if that's the quickest way to fix it, I'm happy to try.

Here's another one; you never know!
A number of sleep-related issues can appear after incremental Mac OSX updates, including the inability to properly go to sleep, problems waking from sleep, and having your display go to sleep without your Mac going to sleep. The most common culprit is Bluetooth. Try these tips to fix your sleep problems.
WAKE UP
In System Preferences>Bluetooth, uncheck Allow Bluetooth Devices To Wake This Computer. If you are using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, you'll have to wake your Mac by pressing the power button.
FILE CORRUPTION
Your Bluetooth preference file may be corrupt-you'll need to delete it. Turn Bluetooth off, then go to the /Users/user name/Library/Preferences folder. Look for a file called com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and trash it.The OS will create a new preference file when you enable Bluetooth again.
ENERGY SAVER
If you have issues with a Mac or display that goes to sleep at inappropriate times, you may have a problem with Energy Saver. Delete the following .plist files and restart:
-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
-/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--(username is your name or System Administrators name).
-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones.
In some cases, running MacOS X's cron tasks-maintenance that the OS performs automatically if you leave your Mac on 24 hours a day-can resolve many sleep problems. If you don't want to leave your Mac on, you can use MacJanitor, Yasu, or OnyX free at Versiontracker.com.
Cheers!

  • Monitor wake up issues

I am having inconsistent monitor wake up issues.  If the CPU is on and past the bios boot and THEN I turn on the monitor all works properly.  However, the monitor will NOT come out of power save / hibernation mode.  I have tried different monitors with the same behavior and am on my second ATI 9600 Pro 128MB graphic card.  I have installed the latest Catalyst drivers (4.0) and flashed the MoBo bios (amibos 3.31a) and still no change in the effect.  I am suspect that it is some bios setting but can't figure out what the issues are.  As a side note, I have had twice in about 40 boots an error:  "Dram timing is too tightly so reload timing".  The DRAM timing configuration is enabled by SPD at 3-3-3-8-8 (unchangeable in current mode).
    Suggestions greatly appreciated!
    SYSTEM:
    P4 2.8GHz w/ 800M and 512K

    ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB
    MSI 865PE Neo2-PLS
    Viewsonic E90f 19" monitor
    Windows XP Pro SP1.1a

You can set your DDR timings manually by disabling SPD in BIOS. Before you do that, be aware of the exact description of your memory sticks and try to find out in Kingston Website about possible timing values.
About the problems with the Monitor, in BIOS you should have a menu 'Power Management Features'. If you have
    ACPI Standby State                         choose  'Auto'
Re-Call VGA BIOS at S3 resuming     choose 'Disabled'
    Power Management/APM                   choose ' Enabled'
    Suspend Time Out                                       'Disabled'
On this menu if you have a Submenu 'Set Monitor Events', get in, and if you have something like
    FDC/LPT/COM Ports          choose 'Monitor'
    Primary Master IDE                      'Monitor'
    Primary Slave                              'Ignore'
    Secondary Master IDE                  'Monitor'

  • The application HPIO trap monitor quit unexpectedly?/??

I just updated to Leopard and I repeatedly get the error message box that says "The application HPIO trap monitor quit unexpectedly" Then it gives me three choices..ignore which keeps it offf for a few minutes and then it pops back up, report, same thing and relaunch..it immediately comes back. Does anyone know what the HPIO trap monitor is and what I can do to stop this super annoying box from popping up ? btw Happy New Year

It's the startup item associated with an HP printer—HP input/output trap monitor. Your best bet is to reinstall the latest HP software available for your printer. I'm running an HP PSC 1510 AIO and the trap monitor daemon isn't crashing. Downloads at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=4 28800&os=219&lang=en&

It's impossible to turn on the monitor (wake up) without reboot if i click any key in the same point when OS is going to sleep. If 1-2 seconds manage to pass  - Everything is ok!
    Please fix it!

use the last combination the three finger reflash you will lose all your data but your phone might work, if the last code does not work you ought to contact either provider or nokia care point for assistance
*#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
Make sure you back up your data as you will lose all of it when you perform option 2 or 3 on this list.
    *#7370# - Reformat your phone
This you perform as a last resort. Nothing else is working. Turn off your phone, hold the following buttons while pressing the power button. (the default code is 12345)
re-flash - hold the following buttons *, 3 (number button) and talk/green key. turn on the phone and do not release those buttons until you see the Nokia boot up screen.
If these codes are not working the only thing for you to do is contact your Nokia Care Center/Service.

  • MacbookPro + External Monitor wake up from sleep

    Hey,
If I connect my mbp to external monitor and press sleep and then close the lid, 30% of the cases I cannot wake it up. I have all updates in Mountain Lion.
Any thoughts about it? Software bug?

But still, the sleep issue persists, so it is a more subtle timing issue. I upgraded my MBP with a Corsair 8GB kit ( http://www.corsair.com/us/corsair-mac-memory-8gb-ddr3-sodimm-memory-kit-cmsa8gx3 m2a1333c9.html ) and it indicated it had 9-9-9-24 CAS timing. It has worked flawlessly till now. Note that my Mac is a Late 2011, whose memory runs at 1333 MHz.
As far as I can tell, the 13" Mid 2010 models used 1067 MHz memory with 7-7-7-20 CAS timing: http://www.corsair.com/us/corsair-mac-memory-8gb-dual-channel-ddr3-sodimm-memory -kit-cmsa8gx3m2a106c7.html

  • Wake Up!  Wake Up!  Monitor, Wake Up!

Like others, I am very pleased with my new MBA 2.13/4gb/256gb. But waking up the external monitor is driving me nuts! I can't find any consistency in what it takes to wake up the monitor from MBA sleep mode once I connect it to the DVI adapter. The monitor is a Samsung 32" that fully supports the resolution, and produces a great looking image - when it works! No problem running both the MBA open with the monitor, but once I close the lid and press the spacebar on the Apple bluetooth keyboard (or mouse for that matter), most of the time the monitor just sits there. About every third time, it works just like I would expect, but the other times, it just refuses to recognize the MBA. I suppose that the MBA just isn't sending a signal to the port, but the inconsistency is what's driving me nuts. I have installed all updates through Software Update, but that didn't resolve the problem.
    Anybody found a solution yet?

UPDATE: Even though I did a Software Update immediately following my data migration from the MBP to the new MBA, I went out to the Apple site and downloaded the update again. Presto! Now the external monitor and MBA are functioning well together - just like I expected. Interesting.... Maybe it was the reboot, maybe the original update was overwritten by something else. I dunno.... but whatever the cause, everything is now behaving like I wanted.

  • Turning on monitor wakes mac from sleep

I've hooked up my G4 Gigabit Ethernet to my HDTV, and I'm happily using it to play music and watch slideshows. Very happy to breath some life back in the girl.
One issue though: If I turn on my monitor to watch TV it wakes the G4 from sleep (the state I keep it in most of the time). Most of the Shareware or Scripts I've seen are for the exact opposite issue -- trying to keep the computer from going to sleep -- I want to keep the computer asleep!

Options is there in Tiger. This is a screenshot of the Display Preferences from a Tiger volume.

  • Attention: HPIO Trap Monitor wake issues on Leopard

Guys, I've never had any sleep issues with my Intel iMac before; but it seems like the latest 10.5 updates are NOT compatible with the HPIO Trap Monitor, which is part of the software package installed for HP all-in-one printers on Macs...
In 2 or 3 occasions during the last couple of months, I wasn't able to wake my iMac from sleep, having to resort to a hard reboot. It's nothing with 10.5.7, because this ALSO happened with 10.5.6.
After some analysis of console messages, I discovered the following:
    Process: HPIO Trap Monitor [97]
Path: /Library/Printers/hp/hpio/HPIO Trap Monitor.app/Contents/MacOS/HPIO Trap Monitor
    Identifier: HPIO Trap Monitor
    Version: ??? (???)

My question: my printer works fine so far, but I am afraid this driver or specific process is not compatible anymore with Leopard...what happens if I erase it from my system? Thanks in advance!

Reinstall the latest HP software. I have no such crashes with my Photosmart 4280 AIO attached to my iMac. Version 2.6.0 runs without issues.

  • Computer won't sleep, my monitor wakes up my computer

I recently purchaced at T232HL for my PC. It was working fine, now whenver my PC blanks the display or goes to sleep the monitor starts looking for another input then wakes the PC back up. The computer is plugged into HDMI1, when it goes to sleep the monitor tries HDMI2, VGA, then back to HDMI 1, then displays "No Signal", the amber light comes on briefly (0.5s) then the screen comes back on to my lockscreen with the PC wide awake. Using powercfg -lastwake I can see that a USB device woke up the computer. I tired unplugging each device 1 by 1 and found that when the USB to the monitor is unplugged it goes to sleep without issue (it still cycles inputs, but doesn't get woken up in the end). What's going on here? I don't think the monitor was cycling through input when I first started using it, and it certainly wasn't staying awake. Any hints on how to prevent auto input searching and preventing the monitor from waking up my PC? Thanks-Ian

    RidgePirate,
    Go to the device manager.
Right click and go to the properties of your display adapter.
Go the power management tab and see if there is an option to wake the computer from sleep.

  • Monitor wakes from sleep twice

    Hello,
For the last few days I have noticed a couple funny things happening. When the Mac Pro wakes from sleep my HP 2475w monitor, which is also in sleep mode, wakes up, gives me a message that no signal is received, goes back to sleep and then wakes up again. This happens in about 10 seconds or so, but once awake works fine (for the most part).
The other thing I've notices for a slightly longer time, maybe 2-3 weeks, is sometimes when I move my wireless mouse (logitech M305) the monitor goes black for a few seconds but always comes back on.
I wonder if these two occurrences are related and may be due to something wrong with the HD 4870 or the video card? Someone on a previous post said something about cleaning the dust from the video card with canned air.
Does anyone have any suggestions what I might try? I have apple care but before I go down that road I wanted to check here first.
One other thing that I see reported a lot but I've learned to live with, is the problem of the monitor screen occasionally turning to snow while coming back from sleep. It always rights itself with 2-3 seconds.
    Thanks, Dennis

  • Monitor Wake Up !

All of a sudden, for no reason at all as nothing has changed in my PC, my monitor has stopped waking-up when I move the mouse. Sometimes I have to revert to re-booting the PC just to get a picture back on the screen.
I have a Samsung 173T which has a flashing green LED when in sleep/standby/of mode.
Moving the mouse  and hitting keys often does not bring a picture back to the screen.
Sometimes hitting the Exit/Source key on the monitor will bring the screen back to life but the picture will flash on and off a few times before stabilising.
This has been an intermittent problem for the past 8 months with intervals of about 8 weeks before the problem starts again.
Can anybody please tell me how to resolve it ?
    Thankyou.

I think TS meant "reseat" the video card.  Turn off your system, turn off the PSU(unplug it even), hit your power button to discharge the capacitors, and pull the video card out of the slot and re-insert the card to ensure it is seated properly in it's slot. Reconnect cables and PSU plug, turn on the PSU, and turn on your computer. Remember to touch the PSU and case to ensure you don't fry a component with a static discharge.

  • Error message HP Device Monitor quit unexpectedly will not go away! Help please.

Hi, I deleted our old HP Printer from MAC and loaded the new one. Now I'm getting an error message constantly. Sending report, Ignoring, Relaunch - nothing gets rid of it. Also rebooted computer, turned it off, and unplugged new printer all to no avail. Hitting relaunching button makes it message disappear, but nothing relaunches. HELP.
    Thank you.
