Monitor works for one second, then blank

I have been reading many of the post people have put down about monitors and mac mini's, however can't find anyone with my problem.
I bought a mac mini and a cheap monitor from PC world, a Xerox 17" TFT, thinking that it would work fine. However when I connected them up using the DVI cable, at start up the monitor works for a second then blank. Turning it off and back on again brings the image back but again for just a second. This is annoying in that the mac mini is still in its welcome first run making it difficult to get beyond it to mess around with the monitor settings given a window of a second each time.
There was an adaptor that came with the monitor, but to use that I would have to plug that adaptor into the macs DVI adaptor as well, something I tryed but no luck, in fact no image at all.
Has anyone else had this problem?

X-Grid Works for one second then says it's finished

OK, so when I use the command line to submit an X-Grid job, it submits it, but it runs for one second then returns that it's finished. I look at the X-Grid Admin utility which is connected to my X-Serve, and it shows the job, shows that it's completed, and shows that it ran for one second... It doesn't matter what job I send to it...
Here's the command I used:
"xgrid -h rtsp.jnetcast.net -p <password hidden> -job submit catmovie /Use
rs/chris/Public/xgrid/movie.mov /Users/chris/Public/xgrid/movie2.mov -mp4 -o /U

The path that all of those files are in has RW privileges for all users, so it's not that...
Anyone know how to get it to work?

Sorry, I don't have an answer - but there is an actual xgrid discussion board. You probably have a much better chance of finding an xgrid guru there than here.

Photobooth works for one second, then stops.

It used to work. Like all the time.
I'm using a Logitech camera, which works fine in Skype and iChat. But when I open Photobooth, the camera turns on, works for a period of one second, then it stops. If Photobooth is open but behind another program, when I switch back to Photobooth I get a quick one second refresh of the image before it freezes up again.
When I Apple-T, I get the 3-2-1 countdown, then it takes a picture of the frozen image and adds it to the previous photos.
The camera is plugged into a USB 2.0 card I installed last year. Everything else on the card is working. I've even switched ports around, and everything is working (which makes sense, because the camera works in Skype and iChat.)
I was hoping to use the video function to record some voiceover stuff and then transfer the audio into iMovie.

I would try Repair Permissions.
This is done with Disk Utility found in Applications/Utilities using the First AID tab.
If that does not work I would Reset the PRAM
Hold down AppleALT+PR keys on restart until you have three start up bongs.
If that does not work I would download and install the Combo Installer of the OS level you are up to.

Ok mate no need to talk to me like im a complete idiot, and no it is not on silent im not that stupid. There is a message pop up on my screen saying 'this accessory is not optimized for this iPhone' and underneith 'you may experience noise caused by cellular interference and a decrease in cellular signal strength' and under that only one option to press which says dismiss. I cant find anything in my settings or applications and have tried resetting my phone 3 times and still nothing only plays ringtones ever now and then wont play music from ipod, youtube or other applications.

I did the recent update on my ipad 7.0.4 and now it keeps freezing up and can not use it. Tried reboot and works for a second then freezes right up again. Anyone else have this issue or know a fix?

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

Seems like you tried this all ready and it didn't help.
Next might be to reset all settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings
Note that when you do this you will not lose data but you will have to enter all passwords again.
If that doesn't help you might tries a restore of your iPad using iTunes on the computer you normall sync with. Do a backup and save all data first. Or
Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

When I click on the safari button a blank screen comes up for about one second, then minimizes. I have checked wi-fi connection, and all is fine. Facebook and maps apps still work.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data (Clear Cache on iOS 4) and also Clear History
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

"Reader" will only display a PDF for one second, then suts down the PDF.

I recently had an automatic update to "Reader" and now "Reader" will only display a PDF for about one second, then shuts down the PDF. This happens to all PDFs no matter what the scource. I am running Windows 7. What do I need to do to correct the situation. (Yes -- I deleted "Reader" from my computer, the re-installed it. Didn't help.)

Go to C/Programs/Adobe/Reader 11/Reader.
Look for a file named eula.exe (or just eula).
Double click it.
Accept the license agreement.
Reader should work fine from there.

Console Window keeps popping up for one second then vanishes before I can read it

I ran ProcMon and went to the ProcessTree window, but could not find any cmd.exe there (and hence could not see the commandline). (I also watched the video about ProcMon).
The closest I could find in the ProcessTree window was conhost.exe, with commandline showing:

In the result column, I noticed some "buffer overflow" and "name not found", many associated with "tunmgr.exe" the Blackberry Link Communications Manager.
I also noticed that in the ProcessTree Window, the only two process lines with an End Time are tunmgr.exe and conhost.exe.

Try going to your lightroom folder (the default is usually inside Pictures or My pictures) where the catalog is located. Don’t touch any .lrcat files but if you see a similar file with the word Lock, you can delete it. Then try launching Lightroom.

Homehub 4 only works for 45 seconds

New account with BT. Phone and homehub connected to master socket and phone works OK. Homehub works for 45 seconds then flashes red. Tried everything, download help software, talked to BT help line who went through switch off, reconnect, is it a master socket etc and then said see what it is like in 48 hours!

OK an update of my experience of BT Just spent 2 hours 23 minutes on the BT helpline. The operator tried to help but to no avail. It took 30 minutes to get them to accept that I didn't have a Homehub 2 (I have a homehub 4) and I am not on Infinity (normal broadband). I was walked through switch off/on, reboot, paperclip reset, dimantled master socket and use test socket etc. Still all I get is a flashing amber horizontal light (power light) and every 30 seconds a flashing red broadband light.
The conclusion was it is a wiring fault in my property - which confuses me as I am connected to the test socket, before which is all BT wiring?
No mention of possible Homehub fault.
Engineer booked for Monday and I will be charged £130.
One question - as the BT system says I have a Homehub2 with Infinity, if I am getting this sent from the exchange would this cause the errors I am getting on the homehub 4?

Before sound computer freezes for one second

Ive installed kdemod-vanilla full package, and before sound event (question sound for example) computer freezes for one second, then after that second it returns and i hear sound. this only hapens before sound. im using alsa. please help me, because this annoyes me much!

Ive found that problem is with kmix, when kmix is not running then before sound mouse dont freezes for a second, but when i run kmix then it freezes. But i really need kmix, so i cant turn off it. any ideas?

Just to clarify, I am not getting an "!" mark in a triangle, as I read others have experienced. The screen is just blank except the grey flag in lefthand corner to flag the photo.
