Monitoring a PRORES PAL sequence through Apple Firewire PAL audio problem

Hi I have some materiels in HDV 1080i50, y made a PRORES PAL Sequence and scaled and rendered it. Now I need to monitor the material and I tried the "on the fly" conversion to DV choosing as video output the "Apple Firewire PAL"setting. Video is ok, the computer makes the conversion and it works swell, but with the audio I just get this stange noise, where I can hear th original audi but very, very low and al is noise...
Am I doing something wrong?
Is possible to monitor this "HDV passed to PRORESS PAL" through the DV conversion?

Apple, please fix audio problems with iMovie

Ok, I have many iMovie projects, about 10. In one project when I add music from iTunes I can control the tracks fade, volume, everything I'm able to control. This is also possible when I make a new project and add music from iTunes.
So, this is possible in one project and all new projects.
But when I try to add music from iTunes to an existing project (all other 9 projects) the audio controls do not work. I can't mute the iTunes mp3 I can't fade it, NOTHING. Having bought my $6000 mac primarily for iMovie you can imagine how frustrating this is.
I've tried the following
Re-installing software
Deleting preferences
Clipping audio in garage band
Using different music, including different file types, eg .WAV
It's obviously a bug apple, please fix it asap.

Account Specific Apple DVD Player Audio Problem

I accidently went reverse with the wrong "sticky key" locked during a dvd. (I thought I'd pressed "command-arrow")
Since this I have no audio on any video when using the DVD Player software IN THIS ACCOUT ONLY.
After restarting both the DVD player and the Mac with no success, I switched user accounts, and continued watching said dvd with no problem. Switching back, still no sound.
Clearly I created an error in my user account prefs. In the past, an easy fix. But where do I find the user library/prefs in Mountain Lion?

Found the "easy" approach..
A) Hold Option while selecting the Go Menu while in the Finder. The User Library shows as "Library".
B) Keep holding Option as you select Library. (If using Sticky Keys, this means lock the Option Key at point A.)
TADA! The user library is opened before one's eyes.
From there, I switched user accounts via fast user switching, repeated the above. Next I copied the DVD Player folder in Application Support to an external drive, switched back, and replaced the corrupted user folder by copying the one on the external drive.
Sound has returned to the DVD Player! It was likely one file, but none popped out at me, so I just replaced the entire file.

Apple DVD Player: Audio problem w/ stereo playback

Hello, i thought that there were already various answers to this topic but i didn't find any.
THE PROBLEM: I use a simple stereo system to playback the sound of movie dvds on my powerbook g4. problem is that the sound is very inconstant: sometimes it's too loud, other times it's way to low.
any idea how i can get this to a constant level?

Try changing the "Dolby dynamic range compression" setting in the "Disc Setup" preference of DVD Player.

Monitoring uncompressed SD through DV Firewire

I have filmed a project in HDV 1080i-50 with two Z1 cameras. I plan to cut in HDV (or prores) and then copy the sequences into an SD uncompressed timeline for colour correction, titles and output to regular DVD.
FCP 6 allows monitoring through DV firewire to my SD monitor. As this is in the same SD colour space (albeit DV codec) can I do this and still get an accurate (or very good) colour balance to correct on. It looks pretty good but then I don't have anything else to compare it with

I haven't worked much in HD before and am looking for the best workflow
The Io HD looks great but need to make some money on this DVD first
Though I am seriously considering a MXO + Dell or ADC
I was thinking of putting it all into an SD uncompressed sequence at the end because:
1. I believed it would give a better DVD result than going straight to compressor (a la Bonsai's method)
2. Titles would be cleaner
3. My second camera was unmanned - so I could reframe the shots - pan and scan if needed
In terms of workflow are you suggesting I convert all HDV footage to ProRes first. Rendering on my G5 is slow so any speed boost is more than welcome.
If I colour correct in a ProRes sequence and monitor through the MXO as HD (and SD), and then send it to compressor for Dvd , would the colour conversion to SD be the same as what I see through the MXO.
I realise I will just have to try it out and make my tests.
I guess I'm wondering if I should go for the MXO or whether it will be good enough to keep my existing system and monitor the HDV sequence through DV firewire (as I can now with FCP6).
I like buying new technology but unfortunately my wife doesn't!

TC Electronics Konnekt 8 Firewire Audio problems

Hey Everyone:
I've been experiencing problems with my Konnekt 8 Firewire audio interface since I purchased it. I've been getting audio dropouts on my output while recording with GarageBand 4. On top of that, I've been experiencing the odd click noise while recording. After months of reading/posting on TC Electronics forums (and other firewire audio forums), I get the sense that this might not be a audio interface driver issue. It might be an Apple Firewire Core Audio issue. Am I correct? I'm on OSX 10.4.11. I've read mostly leopard users have these audio problems, but is the latest and greatest tiger core audio driver the same as leopards?

No matter what product you are buying or platform that you are buying the product for Google is often your friend.
The point that I was making about the TC Electronics Konnekt 8 Firewire Audio device is that all users, even on Windows, are experiencing problems.
One of the musician's laments is that often operating systems such as OSX will be updated and the manufacturer of an external device will not upgrade their drivers in a timely manner if at all. Having no cash to buy new equipment said musician often operates old hardware in order to stay compatible.

Play through apple tv while editing? imovie using apple tv as live video monitor

HI. I have imovie HD running on my macbook pro and would like to play back the video i am editing directly through apple tv - while editing - without having to render first - . i know there would be latency - but that would be fine.... is there anyway to do this?????

Are You using iMovie HD6 and want a live full screen video playback during editing ?
If so - that's what I've done all the time since iMovie 1.
BUT - to get this I use either
• a miniDV tape Camera with DV-in - or
• an A/D-box as Canopus ADVC-300
Then in iMovie I set - Playback trough Camera (in iM preferences)
Camera/A/D-box connected via FireWire
To Camera or A/D-box I've connected a reference monitor - but any standard TV will do
A function lost in iMovie'08 to 11 - but also fully functional in FinalCut Express and Pro (How it is in FinalCut Pro X - I DO NOT KNOW - and doubt sincerely - as it feels much more like iMovie X Pro)

Yes... unfortunatly that is probably the problem. A few weeks ago (or months! i can't remember... time flies when you're having fun!) there was a surge of panic as everyone experienced connection issues after upgrading QT.
You also have to trash quicktime receipts. If you do a search on this forum about the topic i'm sure you will find everything you need to know in detail.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

FCP5 - [Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720x480)

I just upgraded to Mac OSX 10.4.6 and Finalcut Studio.
I went to open FCP5 and look at all the new glory they offered me and found disaster. It gave me the "can't connect to device" message box on boot up. So I did my usual look at the deck and saw that it was on. But I'm still not able to connect.
Thus far, I've tried:
-restart my computer
-powercycle the deck (DSR-1800)
-Checked the firewire bus through the OS and it shows that a Sony device is connected
-remove all other firewire devices
-tried different firewire port
-I dumped the preference files for FCP4.5, but can't seem to find documentation on how to dump FCP5 files
I've seen a post from someone about dumping all traces of Quciktime and reinstalling it. I'm a bit leary about that for some reason.
I also have Media100 installed on my machine. With FCP4.5 I never had an issue, or noticed any integration of any sort. However, if I go to View->Video Playback I am currently getting the follwoing:
None

I'm having a similar issue, but a bit more extreme.
I have a PBook G4, and while I"ve tried all the following -
-restart my computer
-powercycle the camera
-Checked the firewire bus through the OS and it shows
that my device is connected
-remove all other firewire devices
-tried different firewire port
-I dumped the preference files for FCP5
-tried the cables and camera on a G5 with success
And I cannot get my laptop to recognize the camera. I have the same issue as this post -
And, if I try and open Log and Capture, it closes FCP immediately.

Apple FireWire Power Adapter and iPod Classic

I just looked through the user guide, and it doesn't mention anything positive or negative about using the Apple FireWire Power Adapter that came with my 3G iPod. Any chance I'm going to fry my new iPod if I try charging it with the Firewire Power Adapter?

Missing video device / apple firewire

When trying to caputure, a box comes up that says "attempt to capture video without a video device. Please select video device from capture presets."
Under capture presets, where it lists all the settings for each preset, it says: "WARNING video device dv video is missing."
Under a/v settings -> summary -> video playback, it says "[missing] Apple firewire PAL." (I'm using PAL)
When trying to log and capture, I can't see the image, but can control the camera.
Background: I just reinstalled FCP HD and Quicktime.
If anyone has any ideas about this, it would be greatly appreciated.

The setup of you system is a little unclear from your profile.
Are working in 10.3.9 with FCP4.5 and now gone back to QT6.5.2?
If so, that is a very reliable grouping. I'd say, unless you have changed or added a drive, changed the firewire port the drive is connected to or changed some other physical element, the QT reinstall is not working as it should.
Try trashing the receipts, download the full installer and then run it from your hard drive again.

Missing Apple Firewire NTSC

Hi all,
I've read tons on this but can't find a solution...please help.
I needed to output a spot to miniDV for a station (haven't needed to do this in quite a while) but when I start up to output there's the "(missing) Apple FireWire NTSC (720 x 480)" message.
I recently (past 6 or so months) upgraded to Final Cut Studio 3 (not sure if this is significant).
I'm certain all of my capture and sequence settings are correct (used EasySetup and checked settings).
I also:
trashed prefs
zapped the PRAM
removed QT versions and installed the most recent version
copied all additional easy setups to the library
checked cables and ports
reset decks to factory settings
checked system profiler is seeing decks
removed other peripherals on FW chain
My FCP is not seeing either of my decks – it won't load up the Apple FireWire NTSC for video or audio out.
It's not the decks – ultimately I had to transfer the project over to my laptop for output to the deck.
I don't know what to do.
I have:
Dual-Core 2x2.66 Xeon PowerMac G5 with 9 GB RAM
FCP 7.0.3, QT7.6.9, AJA Kona 3, JVC BR-HD50 Deck, Sony GV-HD700 Clamshell Deck

Sorry for the disinformation – it's a MacPro 2nd Gen Dual 2.66 Intel Xeon with 9G RAM, AJA Kona3, and a 3ware Sidecar eSATA RAID.
The system recognizes both of my decks (JVC BR-HD50, and Sony GV-HD700). I'm just using the DV-NTSC easy setup to keep things simple and I check to make sure all of the AV tabs reflect these settings accurately.
This is the way I've always done it for going out to these decks for years now and I've never had any problems. I have a standard DV-NTSC sequence with bars and tone, slate, countdown, etc. for sending to stations. I haven't had to do this in quite a few months as stations are increasingly accepting digital files via ftp.
As I mentioned, I've done everything I've seen suggested online, and also tried the powered FW400 hub with no luck.
Thanks for any insight you might be able to give me on this issue.
