Monitoring an iWeb MobileMe hosted site

Hi
Just wondering if anyone knows of a way or an app to monitor your MobileMe hosted iWeb site, for such info as when a comment is posted to a blog, Traffic, who/what ip's are hitting the site etc
Thanks

  • Challenges switching MobileMe-hosted site over to FTP server

Even after switching over my MobileMe-hosted iWeb page to an FTP server, when I go to my site, I get a msg "MobileMe is now closed." From my understanding, and from the way I have set up my settings in iWeb, this is absolutely not be the case. I don't know what to do.
To see the message I have been receiving, go here: www.leannamanning.com

If you had forwarding set up for MobileMe, then this could well be affecting your site.  Did you have CNAME forwarding set up for your domain name when you used MobileMe?  If so, then you will need to go to your domain name registrar and cancel any CNAME forwarding that you had.  You don't need it now that you are publishing to another host.  Cancel it by going to the DNS settings at your domain name registrar.

  • IWeb generated MobileMe hosted site - Can I customize the URL?

I hope that my question is worded properly. I am not at all a pro. The site was created using iWeb, but the URL http://web.me.com/[YourMemberName]/[SiteName] is not desirable as the member name has nothing to do with the content. Is it at all possible to shorten the URL to http://web.me.com/[SiteName]?
    Thanks for your consideration.

    Bonjour
Your page URLs are like that:
    http://web.me.com/YourMemberName/SiteName/Pagename.html
And they can be like this (if you buy a domain name) :
    http://www.mywonderfulwebsite.com/SiteName/Pagename.html
    but you can't have
    http://web.me.com/SiteName/Pagename.html

  • Iweb mobileme hosting to icloud

I realize that mobileme is offering to continue hosting my iweb site until June 2012, but I'm concerned that if I sign into iCloud that I will lose my hosting.  Has anyone found an issue with their iweb hosting after beginning to use iCloud?
    Thanks!

Everybody says that I can still host on MobileMe until June 30, but when I try to upload anything I get a sign-in box for MobileMe.  Then when I sign in, it tells me that I've already moved to iCloud (and I have), and then I'm back to square one.  How do I UPLOAD to MobileMe until June 30th?

  • Another iWeb/MobileMe business site question...

I have read the ToS and understand that you are not really supposed to use MobileMe to host a website on which items are sold. Is it also against the ToS to have a website that just provides information about your business (product descriptions, contact info, etc)?

There are a lot of iWeb business sites on MMe.
The general impression is that if you want more than just pages, iWeb/MMe is not suitable for business.
So a webstore with a client database, online ordering and paymant is not possible, because MMe does not support PHP, SSI, CGI and MySQL. Cryptic words you need to do business.
But having items for sale and use PayPal is a good combination.
The moderators will no doubt modify this post if I said something that violates the Terms of Use.

  • Is iWeb + MobileMe hosting reliable enough for a small business?

I have a small business and am trying to get a website up. It will be less than 10 pages, mostly static informational stuff that will almost never change. I will have a few pictures and maybe about 10 documents that clients can download. I won't be doing any e-commerce, no shopping cart, etc...
I'd like to use iWeb '09 to create it and then just host it on my MobileMe account since that would obviously be the cheapest solution. But I didn't know if that was going to be as reliable as using a hosting service like GoDaddy or AT&T's service (that's who my business DSL is with). Those 2 are only about $15/month for everything (domain, hosting, etc...)
My other question, more related to iWeb, is whether GoDaddy's WebSite Tonight program was any easier to use than iWeb. I'm a complete novice to web page building. I've seen some really nice sites people have posted here that they created with iWeb, but I'm wondering how long it would take me to learn to do something that nice.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Judging by what most people complain about, MobileMe's reliability (uptime) appears to be satisfactory — there are more complaints of MobileMe being slow, but perhaps with only a few pages and pictures your clients won't notice.

iWeb is designed for personal sites and so Apple apparently assumes you'll simply pass your site's URL to friends & family. Web-design apps for business sites tend to integrate search engine optimization — Sandvox Pro is an example:

  • IWeb/MobileMe not accepting comments

Over the past week or so, I have had two people tell me that they can not leave comments on my blog. I have tried myself (from MacBook Pro, iPhone 4 and Dell/Windows) and can not get a comment to post. I get the pop-up comment window, enter my comment, enter my name and then enter the security "phrase" that is provided. Then, when I hit "Add Comment" it just sits there. It does not reqister at all. And this is all on a very simple MobileMe hosted site. No outside domain. No outside tools. Just iWeb and MobileMe.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone know if MobileMe is experiencing issues that are causing this? It sounds like I am not the only one.

I manage my wife's site which includes blogs on mobileme with comments. Readers leave comments, but other readers (or the same readers at other times) report they, too, cannot leave comments. My wife often cannot post a comment (the misdisplayed comment screen hangs just as you described). I had the same experience on my computer today. In my wife's case, using Firefox instead of Safari allowed her to comment. In my case, restarting my computer cleared up the problem. But the inability to enter comments happens to too many would-be commenters on different computer using different browsers at different times to ignore. I promised my wife I would investigate. I echo your question: Does anyone know a solution or have a handle on why users have this problem?

  • Google finding iWeb mobileme site

I have an iWeb mobileme site and a separate domain name linked. Google can't find it.
Does a site have to be hosted separately for this to happen?

In terms of SEO, iWeb sites aren't that different from any other site. It's slightly more challenging to accomplish some things, but for the most part, you can nail all of the important on-page optimizations on iWeb that you could if you were to have an HTML/CSS website.
But anyways, if your site isn't commercial and traffic isn't a big issue for you, then you don't really need to worry about SEO or hosting. If you want to be found to some degree, ie. typing your site URL into Google, then you just need to create and submit an XML Sitemap and you're good to go.

  • My website created with Iweb and hosted on mobileMe is not showing well on all computers. What could be the problem ?

My website created with Iweb and hosted on mobileMe is not uploading well on all computers. What could be the problem ?

I got a chance to look at it on a PC.  Totally hosed up. It loads incorrectly then parts of it go blank.
I have a site that is based very much on one of the built-in templates and it works fine on the same PC.  It contains only text boxes, image placeholders, and images with "picture frame" borders.  Nothing fancy, no overlays, no extra code or anything. I haven't looked much at the other templates so I don't know if yours is mostly a template or how much you may have modified one or what tricks you may have done to get the look you wanted.  Whatever it is, IE does not like it.  Unfortunately, you can't really ignore them as was suggested; they make up a large part of your audience.

  • IWeb - pointing domain name to MobileMe host

Hi - I have been working to direct a domain name purchased through godaddy (mygodaddydomainname.com) to my mobileme website (web.me.com/myname/myblogblogname), where I'm publishing a page using iweb.
The goal is for someone to look under the (mygodaddydomainname.com) name and see the site built with iWeb and hosted at (web.me.com/myname/myblogblogname).
You would think it was simple but I am having difficulties.
I followed the cname instructions in support at Apple & at GoDaddy but it isn't working. Does anyone have any good ideas?
    Gratefully,
    Lillian

This Apple document tells how to configure your MMe account for CNAME forwarding: Setting up MobileMe to use a personal domain name. Then follow GoDaddy's instructions for their end.
If you don't want to use CNAME forwarding but just the standard forwarding you don't need to do anything on MobileMe's end. At GoDaddy it will look this this:
You can either choose with masking or not. Masking will only display mygodaddydomainname.com in the URL window of each page. The downside to that is that visitors can only bookmark the first page of your site. That may or may not be a problem with your site. My tutorial site is set up that way: http://toadstutorials.info.

  • Living in Brasil can I publish my iWeb site on a foreign hosting site?

    Hello folks,
I have a web site developed with iWeb and presently published in a hosting site in Brasil, but I am unhappy with such hosting site for several reasons,  the main one is that it doesn't "speak" iWeb  and Apple language, making almost impossible to update my site, but also, their cost and Customer Services aren't good.
Mobileme ends today and iCloud won't host iWeb sites, so I wonder if other, iWeb friendly sites, not located in Brasil, or even Brazilian ones,  would host my site?
    Thanks in advance   Paulo

You can host your website with a host from any country. The only thing you may run into may be the added cost of telephone support. Most of the larger webhosts also provide pretty good instant chat or email support. I have not actually had to call my current webhost for any of the minor issues I have ran into. They have been able to solve my issues within quick order via intant chat or email.
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years now with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across.

If you want to migrate your MobileMe account to iCloud you do so at http://me.com/move . You will need Lion 10.7.2 on your Mac to be able to use its facilities. Your calendars, contacts, bookmarks and email will be moved to iCloud.
Your iDisk, including website hosting and Gallery, will be unaffected and can still be accessed as before, though the migration process will probably sign you out in System Preferences>MobileMe and you will need to sign in again there.
You will continue to be able to use your iWeb site as before. As you say, this will cease at the end of June. This page examines some alternatives:

  • Hosting site recommendation to replace mobileme

Now that mobile me will be obsolete in a year, I was hoping for suggestions for a hosting site that will support iweb. I have 7 mobile me accounts and 4 of them host non-profit websites, each with several thousand photos (linked to my mobileme).  You can imagine my concern when I learned apple was dropping mobile me and icloud will not  be hosting websites.  Is there a way to transfer websites and the photos without interruption? Also, I have read that hosting sites, such as godaddy, will not work with items such as the iWeb hit counter, is there a way to utilize all that iweb can offer?  I can not believe this happened, I am happy with the way things are, this will really be a drag.
    THANKS!  SJB

You might look at the HostExcellence.com Ultimate Business Package which, for $7.95/mo. offers 3 free domain names, unlimited storage and bandwidth, email addresses with aliases, Linux hosting and outstanding 24/7 ear-to-ear (telephone) customer support. It also has a basic package with 1 free domain name for $3.95/mo.  If you have your own domain name you might go with it as you could publish all your sites to the one domain name account and point the existing domain names to them.
I moved my sites to it and am very happy with the decision to do so.

  • My website- created on iWeb (Mac) now uploaded to hosting site, does not show content on 4 pages of photos, though Safari shows everything. ???

All the photos were saved on jpeg format. You can see the text on each page of concern, but not the photos. I have added music to each page of concern with a button to manipulate on/off, and pasted jpeg photos to them which you can see, and music plays with no problem. I re-built the site and uploaded again to hosting site, and am having same problem. Safari shows all pages, text, jpeg photos/music without any problem. So I have a site of 6 pages, and only 2 are completely loadable with Firefox. I have made all updates that have come from Firefox. My Mac is OS X version 10.5.8

Make sure that you use the latest version of the iWeb software to generate the galleries. Older versions of iWeb had problems in current Firefox versions.

  • Need to move podcast feed from MobileMe hosting to DreamHost

I apologize if this has been covered, I could not find anything on the forum however to help. I currently host a podcast through MobileMe. I've created the podcast site through GarageBand/iWeb. I want to continue using the iWeb site, but host it on DreamHost (for reasons of disk space, etc). I have purchased a new domain name (talesfromthemousehouse.com) from DreamHost and wish to "migrate" the iWeb site to this new domain. Plus, I want to move the podcast feed along with it, so that all my old episodes etc goes to the new host, and the only thing my listeners will notice is that the site has a new address (www.talesfromthemousehouse.com). Now...I've yet to find anyone or anything that can properly help me, including Apple support. What I thought should be an easy task has turned out to be quite a nightmare. My podcast feed is: http://web.me.com/alkessel/Site_3/Podcast/rss.xml
Can anyone help? I know that (from the Apple podcast documentation), I need to insert some code <itunes:new-feed> or something, but WHERE? Nothing tells me HOW to access the stuff to edit in iWeb/MobileMe. I would love to get this done as soon as possible, any and all help is appreciated. Thanks! Al

I'm working with fairly minimal information here: as I understand it your original feed was
    http://web.me.com/alkessel/Site_3/Podcast/rss.xml
This feed does not contain the 'itunes:new-feed-url' tag. Did you put a tag in it and then remove it?
iTunes shows your podcast in the Store at
    http://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/tales-from-the-mouse-house/id371928528
However it's looking for a feed at http://talescast.com/ so presumably this is the URL you entered in the redirect tag?
However, it's not a feed - it's the Personal Domain referral to your web page at
    http://talescast.com/Site_4/Home.html
As this is a web page and not a feed, iTunes can't read it. You have now painted yourself into a corner: as you need to enter the redirect tag in a feed to get iTunes to redirect, and iTunes can't read a feed at the UTRL you gave it, you can't redirect it.
You now have only two options. The first is to abandon the old feed altogether. You should get the old podcast removed from the Store - instructions here - and submit your new feed as an entirely new podcast. You will probably need to make a small change in the title, as a bug in the Store software may tell you that the podcast has already been submitted: and of course you will lose any subscribers or comments.
The other option is somewhat uncertain. iTunes Support is notoriously unhelpful, often sending back form answers which often don't deal with the actual problem, or referring the questioner to the Discussions Forum (which may have sent the questioner there in the first place): however it has been known for someone to persuade Support to shift their podcast to a new URL, so it's worth trying. It's probably just a matter of luck who you get. To contact iTunes Support, go to http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ - click on 'Other iTunes Store Features' in the list and then on 'Podcasts'.
