Monitoring Audio During Live Event

If I connect headphones to a device that's feeding the audio into Connect,
will the audio I hear be from before it goes to the Connect server or
after it comes back from the server?

My goal is to determine the best way to monitor the audio from the end
user's perspective. I learned the hard way that Connect does not like
activating both speakers and mic on the same device for obvious reasons
but has no problem doing so with a headset. So, it must know if the sound
is going through a headset or through the device's speakers. But when I
try to use simple headphones, i.e. no attached microphone, but still feed
audio through the device's aux input, the audio I hear in the headphones
appears to not be delayed as the audio from the server would be. This
suggests that Connect? or the device itself- is feeding the audio to me
BEFORE it sends it to the server for distribution. I want to hear the
audio AFTER it's gone to the server so that I can most accurately
experience the same conditions as my attendees. If they report choppy
audio but mine is fine, I know that the problem is local for them. That
type of thing.

  • Presenter View During Live Events In Show and Share

    Hi,
    I am a bit confused about the user authorisation during live events of Show and Share. There is a user who is creating the event and publishing it. I think this user should be the moderator. He can see the questions tab and check the questions coming from the other participants and send them to the presenter view tab.
    I have found some information about the moderator and presenter in the user guide for show and share but I could not find out which user can be a presenter, or are the presenter and the moderator the same user or not.
    Below is from user guide:
    The live event moderator pre-screens these incoming questions and comments as they arrive. Moderators can:
    • Move any high-priority questions to the Presenter’s View tab. • Move any low-priority questions to the Removed Questions tab, either manually or automatically by keyword. • Use keyword filters to see and manage only the messages that match those keywords.
    . The presenter then responds to any number of these pre-screened questions and comments. (These are messages that the moderator moved to the Presenter’s View tab.)
    From the above information, it seems that there are seperate presenter and moderator, but is there a way to assign a user other than moderator only the presenter rights?

    Great question, Ken!  I too would like to know if there is a way to transfer video content management to an other author.  In the case that a user publishes content and later leaves the company, retaining control of the published material is a requirement.

  • Unable to monitor audio during capture

    I'm using FCP6 to capture footage shot with a JVC GY-HD100U at HDV 720p24. I'm using a JVC BR-HD50 deck to capture from, connected to my MacPro 3 GHz quad via firewire.
    In the Audio/Video Setting dialog box, the Sequence Preset is "HDV 720P24". My Capture Preset is "HDV", Device Control Preset "HDV FireWire". Video Playback shows "[Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480)" and offers only the options of None and Digital Cinema Desktop Preview–Main as alternate choices. Both HDV options are greyed out. The Audio Playback option is set to Default.
    With this setup, controlling the deck remotely from the capture window, I get video but no audio. The only audio I get is when the deck is connected to my video monitor and I use it to monitor the output of the deck. The audio is there when I play back the clips after capture but I cannot monitor the sound with the computer's speakers. If I go to the A/V Devices tab, under Video, it shows the same "[Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480) with the same choices described above, and the Options button next to it doesn't do anything.
    Can anyone think of anything I've missed in the initial setup?

    Keith,
    For whatever reason (perhaps the intense processor needs) HDV does not allow you to monitor your audio during capture. The computer just will not do it. What I have done, if I really want to hear what's happening durning capture, is plug my speakers into the headphone jack of my XL H1. Due to the processing that's going on, the audio "lags" behind the video by a couple of seconds.
    I'm pretty sure this is not a setup problem, but just a limitation due to the nature of your format.
    Hope that helps!

  • Monitoring audio during record session

    I'm using Soundbooth (CS4) to digitize LP's on my Mac using an Audio Technica AT-LP120 USB turntable.
    I'm able to capture the audio in Soundbooth, but I'd like to be able to hear the audio during the recording session.
    I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Can someone give me a little coaching please?

    There's a button in the middle of the recording dialog box called "Monitor Input during Recording".

  • Monitoring audio during recording...

    Simple question folks. Is there a way to monitor my audio input from my internal speakers of my laptop while recording? MIDI comes through the speakers fine. When I use the headphone jack from the laptop to my mixer that's fine and I'm sure headphones into my laptop would work fine too, but I want to be at a distance from the laptop and be able to record. I'm using the subouts from my mixer to feed the audio input of the laptop. The headphone jack is not being used in this setup (until I want to monitor over my studio speakers). Maybe I'm missing something obvious. Working with MacBookPro, a Mackie mixer and Garage Band 08. Thanks for your help.

  • IMovie 9.0.4 drops audio while scrubbing events.

    On startup of iMovie 9.0.4 scrubbing events has audio. After placing a clip into a project the audio during scrubbing events quits but is still on when scrubbing in the project. This is repeatable. Restarting iMovie restores audio scrubbing in events. It quits after placing a clip in projects. How do I report this bug.

    Just a quick followup using 2 different MacBook Pros...
    Imported into iMovie 9.0.4, the video duration is 1:04:14:06 total.  (Mac OS 10.6.8)
    Imported into iMovie 9.0.2, the video duration is 1:04:15:06 total.  (Mac OS 10.6.7)
    So, with the newer iMovie version, my video imported from the same Digital 8 tape is 1 second shorter.  This is consistent with being a second shorter than the same live audio using my Zoom H2.

  • No Audio during Log and Capture

    Hello, I have FCP 6.0 and am unable to hear my audio during log and capture. I have this problem on all 5 G5 Macs that I have, and have tried different editing docks and cables. I have used FCP for more than 5 years and have never had this problem. iMovie has audio during capture, so I am convinced that there is a pre-set in FCP that I don't have checked properly, but I've been over them many times and still have no answer. I searched past forums and didn't really find anything helpful to me.
    My pre-sets are set to DV NTSC 48kHz and the playback pre-sets are set to default. I can hear audio of my clips after I log and capture, but I still need to hear audio during importing. I'm more confused than anything. If anybody has had this problem before or any suggestions for me, I'm all ears.
    Thanks.
    John

    ... as Bogie says.
    However... this is a non-feature that dates back to slower CPU days... yet, still with all the different formats and such I (ME!!) I believe it's still good practice to leave it off.
    Devoting as much CPU work to the capture process lessens the chance for something to go wrong. You can easily monitor the audio directly out of the deck as needed.
    Sure -- octo cores need 30 apps open just to get your money's worth and I'm sure you won't have any issues using an 8th of one to send audio thru itself while the other 7 and 7/8ths are used for capture... but who wants to risk it?
    Not me... I'm to old to change my ways.
    Blast you FCP v1.2.5 on a beige G3 with 7gig and 15gig hard drive -- you taught me well.

  • NO AUDIO DURING PLAYBACK ON TIMELINE

    Ever since I tried using the Narration tool in Premiere Elements 12, I have had nothing but problems with audio.  The narration tool itself cause Premiere to crash.  I decided not to use it again, but I continue to have problems.  I can hear audio in the clips when i play them through the source monitor, but if I drop it on the timeline, then there is no audio during playback.  I've already checked my audio output settings and I've already tried restarting Elements and my Macbook.  I've even tried to change the audio output devices just to make sure I didn't screw it up when trying to activate the microphone for narration.  Please help!
    *NOTE - this is only a problem in the current project.  When I made a new project, it played back fine.  The problem is that I have hundreds of assets that I've renamed with descriptive file names, as opposed to the formatted file name the camera gave them.

    Good morning Steve.
    Yes, there is a waveform on the clips.  However, when I open Audio Mixer, I do not see any audio registering.
    Also, I do not have a USB microphone plugged into my computer.
    Finally, I have done the Audio Hardware check.  I have tried using both "Built in Output" and "System Default Input/Output" but neither works.
    Not sure if it helps to know this, but I have also tried to add music files to both Audio 1 track and also Soundtrack track.  Neither one will play back audio on the timeline, even though I can clearly see the waveform on the file.  It also does not register on the audio mixer.  This tells me that it;s definitely an issue with this specific timeline.  Is there any setting or mute button I may have accidentally changed?  None of the mute buttons are checked off in the audio mixer.

    Your question has already been answered by the "live event" itself, but even before that some generalizations that could have been made (at the risk of "prognosticating"), based on past Apple behavior:
    - A "point" release of OS X (i.e. 10.6.x) will probably never be featured in an Apple event. Those would be reserved for "main" releases such as OS X 10.6 or OS X 10.7. You've just seen the first event to feature OS X 10.7. There will probably be another showcase for it during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference next summer.
    - Since it will be next summer before OS X 10.7 is released, there may be several 10.6 "point" updates by then. Ten months elapsed between the release of OS X 10.6 and OS X 10.6.4, an average interval of 2 1/2 months per update.
    - The update to OS X 10.6.5 will probably be released eventually, although no one who knows that release date and has permission to say will be mentioning its schedule here. If you search Mac news sites, you should be able to locate recent news on it.

  • No audio during playback

    Hello all, I am extremely consfused as to what is wrong with the premiere pro settings. I have a blackmagic intensity pro installed. I can use it just fine to capture video. No matter what audio files or Videos I use, the audio meters show audio during playback, but my speakers are not playing anything. I have searched for a solution. My only guess is that the program is pointing audio to the blackmagic intensity pro and not to my audio card. Any suggestions?

    I talked to Blackmagic about this problem and was told that they could only guarantee audio/video sync if their output was used so their presets only let you do this. With the Decklink studio this is a bit of a pain if you are working in 5.1 as there are only 4 analogue outs, I had to build a rack of D to As to get my monitoring working.

  • Monitoring audio on capture

    Folks
    New 'puter, so I can get back into video, in fact I'm working on a project that was shelved 5 years ago. I have 11 concert tapes to edit, so being able to select clips based on audio quality is important.
    I have a Sony TRV240 digicam connected by firewire, and I have the analog stereo/video cable plugged in, then with a tricky series of adaptors, I feed the audio into the G5 audio in, expecting to monitor the sound on playback from the camera on my spiffy Monsoons. Not so. Headphones work, but I have no volume control. Audio input is set in system prefs to audio in, not mic. The audio meters tell me that the audio is happeneing.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Dave Tinker

    David
    Nothing. FCE does not give you audio during capture because the firewire cable is active and effectively mutes the Mac speakers. Monitor the sound from the camera with earphones or set up your speakers from the camera if you like. The capture window is only a basic idea of what is being sent to the Mac. Some latency with sound is there if you could hear it and the picture is dodgey anyway. The capture window image does not represent the true quality of the DV footage.

  • Possible to bypass tape and capture live events in FCP via Firewire?

    I was thinking to buy a Canon XH-A1E or similar HDV camera. I was wondering if it is possible to run a firewire from the camera during a live event to a laptop running FCP in capture mode and capture the footage to FCP as it is being shot.
    Thanks.

    If the computer crashed, I believe you would lose the file currently being captured into. In much the same way as if you were to prematurely stop a copy process from one disk to another, it would simply disappear.
    At any rate, if the file did survive it would most likely be unusable because the directory entry would be incomplete.

  • Input monitoring problem during recording

    Greetings,
    I recently purchased Logic Pro 9, and am having a problem with input monitoring. I am not able to in any way affect control over my monitor mix during recording. I have tried every combination of options, including software monitoring, auto-input monitoring, etc...but always get the same headphone levels from my inputs (I am actually trying to mute the input signals out completely so that I can play along to only the click.
    I am wondering whether this is some sort of software glitch, because I was able to control the mix perfectly before the latest software update. I wonder if that is the problem, or if I am overlooking some minor detail. Please help!!
    BTW, I have checked, and this is definitely a software, not a hardware issue...
    Thanks much,
    Kevin

    I have a similar problem, although I'm on Logic Pro 8.
    I can't seem to record my guitar track (mic'd cabinet) without having the result monitor back through my studio monitors unless I turn off software monitoring in Preferences/Audio. But then if I want to record keyboards direct and listen to what I'm playing, I have to go back in and turn the option back on.
    In Sonar on the PC, this was much more intuitive. You could arm a track for recording by clicking the "R" button, and separately toggle monitoring on and off by clicking the little speaker button to the right. You didn't have to constantly fiddle with the program preferences.
    I have a FireWire410 interface, and the monitoring only happens when Logic is loaded. I would have thought that the little "I" icon was to turn monitoring on and off, but it's some "pre/post-tape" toggle I can't find a use for.
    Kevin, how did you control your monitor mix before?

  • Can I mark multiple edit points during live video capture

    I'm scheduled to provide edited video clips immediately following a live event coverage. I know I can capture live signal via uncontrollable source, but  how can I mark edit points on the fly for quick turnaround edits once the event is complete?
    I'm using a new 2011 MBP 17" i7, 8GB RAM, SSD and FCP Studio 3, connected to firewire feed from another device being fed by the camera operator.
    Thanks all

    Thank you Andy, Nate and Patrick.
    I took Cut Notes with me on my wife's iPad to the shoot this morning and was thrilled with the speed and ease of use that got my project completed, selected clips edited and posted and the customer happy before leaving the venue.
    You can see some of the clips here: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=rnc+chair&aq=f
    Portions of the audio will be used on NPR this evening.
    Any thoughts whether this capability might make it into FCP X so I won't need to carry the iPad to my next shoot?

  • Record Live event on FMS

    I have same issue by FMS and F4V format.
    I want to archive live event at same time and to do that I record live stream in F4V format on the onPublish event.
    This is main.asc codes:
    [code]
    //live stream fragments
    var liveStream = Stream.get("f4f:" + streamName.name);
    liveStream.record();
    liveStream.play(streamName,-1,-1);
    //Create Archive (f4v) for on-demand
    var vodFile = Stream.get("mp4:" + StreamName.name + ".f4v");
    vodFile.record();
    vodFile.play(streamName,-1,-1);
    [code]
    So when I use h264 in my source event when FMS create f4v, F4V file is 320kb (f4v isn't growing) and just record 5 second of my event whoever my live event is more than 1 hour.
    But when I don't use h264 in source event my F4V file is correct and record all 1 hour video from live event.
    I don't know what's a problem
    I use FMS 5 extended edition and FFMPEG for stream webcam on to the FMS
    This is my FFMPEG code:
    [code]
    ffmpeg -f dshow -i video="A4TECH USB2.0 PC Camera" -vcodec libx264 -b:v 32k -acodec libmp3lame -b:a 64k -ar 44100  -f flv rtmp://12.11.1.3/livepkgr/liveevent?adbe-live-event=liveevent
    [code]
    Please advise me to solve this problem.
    Many Thanks.

    Solve above problem with edit FFMPEG syntax.
    [code]
    ffmpeg -y -f dshow -s 640*480 -i video="A4TECH USB2.0 PC Camera":audio="Microphone (Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM))"  -c:v libx264 -b:v 120k -pix_fmt yuv420p -vb 450 -an -map 0:0 -acodec libmp3lame -b:a 64k -ar 44100 -f flv rtmp://12.11.1.3/livepkgr/Liveevent?adbe-live-event=Liveevent
