Monitoring audio during recording...

Simple question folks. Is there a way to monitor my audio input from my internal speakers of my laptop while recording? MIDI comes through the speakers fine. When I use the headphone jack from the laptop to my mixer that's fine and I'm sure headphones into my laptop would work fine too, but I want to be at a distance from the laptop and be able to record. I'm using the subouts from my mixer to feed the audio input of the laptop. The headphone jack is not being used in this setup (until I want to monitor over my studio speakers). Maybe I'm missing something obvious. Working with MacBookPro, a Mackie mixer and Garage Band 08. Thanks for your help.

  • Monitoring audio during record session

I'm using Soundbooth (CS4) to digitize LP's on my Mac using an Audio Technica AT-LP120 USB turntable.
I'm able to capture the audio in Soundbooth, but I'd like to be able to hear the audio during the recording session.
I can't seem to figure out how to do that. Can someone give me a little coaching please?

There's a button in the middle of the recording dialog box called "Monitor Input during Recording".

  • Input monitoring problem during recording

    Greetings,
I recently purchased Logic Pro 9, and am having a problem with input monitoring. I am not able to in any way affect control over my monitor mix during recording. I have tried every combination of options, including software monitoring, auto-input monitoring, etc...but always get the same headphone levels from my inputs (I am actually trying to mute the input signals out completely so that I can play along to only the click.
I am wondering whether this is some sort of software glitch, because I was able to control the mix perfectly before the latest software update. I wonder if that is the problem, or if I am overlooking some minor detail. Please help!!
BTW, I have checked, and this is definitely a software, not a hardware issue...
    Thanks much,
    Kevin

I have a similar problem, although I'm on Logic Pro 8.
I can't seem to record my guitar track (mic'd cabinet) without having the result monitor back through my studio monitors unless I turn off software monitoring in Preferences/Audio. But then if I want to record keyboards direct and listen to what I'm playing, I have to go back in and turn the option back on.
In Sonar on the PC, this was much more intuitive. You could arm a track for recording by clicking the "R" button, and separately toggle monitoring on and off by clicking the little speaker button to the right. You didn't have to constantly fiddle with the program preferences.
I have a FireWire410 interface, and the monitoring only happens when Logic is loaded. I would have thought that the little "I" icon was to turn monitoring on and off, but it's some "pre/post-tape" toggle I can't find a use for.
Kevin, how did you control your monitor mix before?

  • Unable to monitor audio during capture

I'm using FCP6 to capture footage shot with a JVC GY-HD100U at HDV 720p24. I'm using a JVC BR-HD50 deck to capture from, connected to my MacPro 3 GHz quad via firewire.
In the Audio/Video Setting dialog box, the Sequence Preset is "HDV 720P24". My Capture Preset is "HDV", Device Control Preset "HDV FireWire". Video Playback shows "[Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480)" and offers only the options of None and Digital Cinema Desktop Preview–Main as alternate choices. Both HDV options are greyed out. The Audio Playback option is set to Default.
With this setup, controlling the deck remotely from the capture window, I get video but no audio. The only audio I get is when the deck is connected to my video monitor and I use it to monitor the output of the deck. The audio is there when I play back the clips after capture but I cannot monitor the sound with the computer's speakers. If I go to the A/V Devices tab, under Video, it shows the same "[Missing] Apple Firewire NTSC (720 x 480) with the same choices described above, and the Options button next to it doesn't do anything.
Can anyone think of anything I've missed in the initial setup?

    Keith,
For whatever reason (perhaps the intense processor needs) HDV does not allow you to monitor your audio during capture. The computer just will not do it. What I have done, if I really want to hear what's happening durning capture, is plug my speakers into the headphone jack of my XL H1. Due to the processing that's going on, the audio "lags" behind the video by a couple of seconds.
I'm pretty sure this is not a setup problem, but just a limitation due to the nature of your format.
    Hope that helps!

  • Enable Mic Monitoring ONLY During Recording or Record-Enabled Tra

Is there any way to monitor the mic inputs only when you're recording? I know that you can disable the output of the mic to the speakers (or enable if you want), but is there any way to automatically do this only when you've record-enabled a track in a program such as Sonar or Adobe Audition? Thanks for the feedback!Message Edited by PaneTrez on 06-07-2006 04:03 PM

which card you got ? and are you asking how to eliminate the feedback? well on my cards (x-fi and audigy 2, and li've 5.) i think you can do it with the bundled recorder that you get when you download the drivers from this site. I think creative recorder is the best one. Also creative mediasource should work (if you dont have Creative Recorder) just select recording source (which is your mic) In my opinion it does just as good of job as AA .5 (which I also own and use alot). I also believe I might have seen that option in AA, but it could be risky as it may interfere or conflict with your device. Only on my x-fi card have i noticed that it autmatically mutes the speakers while recording from mic (during Audio Creation Mode---I select Mic and select Monitor on Recording only) . Only other quick fix to it is simply press the mute key or my personal favorite use some earphones (not headphones cuz youll still get a little feedback at high volumes).Message Edited by djbonus on 06-07-2006 08: PM

  • Monitoring Audio During Live Event

If I connect headphones to a device that's feeding the audio into Connect,
will the audio I hear be from before it goes to the Connect server or
after it comes back from the server?

My goal is to determine the best way to monitor the audio from the end
user's perspective. I learned the hard way that Connect does not like
activating both speakers and mic on the same device for obvious reasons
but has no problem doing so with a headset. So, it must know if the sound
is going through a headset or through the device's speakers. But when I
try to use simple headphones, i.e. no attached microphone, but still feed
audio through the device's aux input, the audio I hear in the headphones
appears to not be delayed as the audio from the server would be. This
suggests that Connect? or the device itself- is feeding the audio to me
BEFORE it sends it to the server for distribution. I want to hear the
audio AFTER it's gone to the server so that I can most accurately
experience the same conditions as my attendees. If they report choppy
audio but mine is fine, I know that the problem is local for them. That
    type of thing.

  • Is there a way to monitor audio while recording video on iphone?

I use an external microphone with a y-splitter for plugging in the mic but I can't get any sound out of the headphone side. Don't know if it's the adapter or if the phone just doesn't do that.

There are some special microphones made for iPhone use that provide headphone output, such as the iRig

  • Audio drops during recording

    Hi guys,
I'm working on my MacBook Pro 2.4 with Logic Pro 8.0.2 and M-Audio Ozonic FireWire interface (latest driver installed). During recording (just one voice track) over an empty session I notice random audio drops. I tryed to change latency and buffer without success. Same equipment and software on my Mac Pro 2.66 works great.
Last year I worked all the summer with the same MacBook Pro (maybe some osx and software versions earlier) without any problem.
    Any good ideas ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Piero

Turn Airport off first and close all other applications.
Recording one track onto the system drive should not be a problem at all but nevertheless try recording all your Audio onto a fast external FW drive in the future.

  • MIDI notes sent during record ready mode AND whenever I start Logic Pro and

Why is Logic Studio pro sending a MIDI note whenever I am writing a new AUDIO track? I get a steady pulse during record ready mode AND this also happens each time I open a project up. ( although it only sends ONE midi note (NOT repeating) when I open up a project)
I have eliminated it by simply turning off the midi interface but this is hardly a fix.
    thanks for any help!
    Bob

Is it doing this for all projects? Did you change anything in the Environment window? All MIDI gets routed through there. You could attach a monitor object to your MIDI tracks in the Environment to try to see what's going on...although first I would make sure no other programs on your computer could be interfering.

  • Getting rid of dry vocals during recording

I just bought the Antares autotune evo and have been playing around recoding with it. The problem I'm having is that during recording I am hearing the dry vocal track along with the effect, it's very distracting not hearing just the effect on the vocals. Does anyone know how I can set the track to only hear the effect without the dry vocals?

Sorry, I should have been more specific about my gear in the post. I am using an m audio projectmix i/o for my audio interface. I didn't think of checking the settings for my interface, I will take a look at that. Are there any settings in logic that might enable input monitoring? If so I'd like to make sure I do not have that enabled.
Thanks for the quick reply, it is appreciated.

  • No Audio during Log and Capture

Hello, I have FCP 6.0 and am unable to hear my audio during log and capture. I have this problem on all 5 G5 Macs that I have, and have tried different editing docks and cables. I have used FCP for more than 5 years and have never had this problem. iMovie has audio during capture, so I am convinced that there is a pre-set in FCP that I don't have checked properly, but I've been over them many times and still have no answer. I searched past forums and didn't really find anything helpful to me.
My pre-sets are set to DV NTSC 48kHz and the playback pre-sets are set to default. I can hear audio of my clips after I log and capture, but I still need to hear audio during importing. I'm more confused than anything. If anybody has had this problem before or any suggestions for me, I'm all ears.
    Thanks.
    John

    ... as Bogie says.
However... this is a non-feature that dates back to slower CPU days... yet, still with all the different formats and such I (ME!!) I believe it's still good practice to leave it off.
Devoting as much CPU work to the capture process lessens the chance for something to go wrong. You can easily monitor the audio directly out of the deck as needed.
Sure -- octo cores need 30 apps open just to get your money's worth and I'm sure you won't have any issues using an 8th of one to send audio thru itself while the other 7 and 7/8ths are used for capture... but who wants to risk it?
Not me... I'm to old to change my ways.
Blast you FCP v1.2.5 on a beige G3 with 7gig and 15gig hard drive -- you taught me well.

  • 70D Is there a way to control audio while recording video?

I have figured out how to control the audio manually prior to entering the video record mode (no thanks to the manual) but can’t figure out how to control it once the camera is recording.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Tim, if Canon were to introduce a software update that allowed one of the dials to increase or decrease record level during recording, that would really elevate the 70D's standing as a video device. Is it possible?
I was recording a musician the other day who turned up his amp during a song and was stuck with the manual level I'd set before he started. It's a helpless feeling knowing you've either got to settle for distortion or stop and restart the recording, losing part of the song.

  • Display not scrolling during recording

I'm using the latest version of Audition CC2014, and have just noticed that during recording, the waveform created under the playhead (in the waveform editor) as the playhead moves left to right doesn't scroll.  I have playback preferences set to auto scroll during playback and recording, with centered auto-scrolling in the waveform editor.
As the playhead reaches the right hand side of the display, the whole time line is compressed (like an auto zoom out) creating more space to the right of the playhead, which then jumps left to the beginning of that newly visible unrecorded space and starts moving right again.  The waveform never scrolls off the left hand side.
Everything works fine when I'm playing an audio track back, it's only the recording that's affected.  Nothing has changed on my PC apart from updating the Creative Cloud Apps I use.
Has anyone else noticed this behaviour?
    Steve

    Hi,
there's probably nothing wrong. During recording, Logic will give the graphics low priority, in order to "concentrate" on maximum audio performance. So, the graphics of a new audio track will be somewhat messy during recording.
    Kind regards,
    Jaap
