Monitoring failed instances

Dears,
Do we have a possibility to monitor the scheduled webi reports?
- Could we inform a dedicated user with an email, if an instance failed
- Could we see in the CMC a list of all failed instance e.g. in the CMC
As our customer has scheduled dozens of reports, its not applicable every report manual. The Instance manager only shows the scheduled jobs but not the Status. Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Felix,
The instance manager in the CMC is better than you think.
You can search for Failed instances - and if there is one you can click on failed and get the reason for the failure
Another option that you have is to automate the email writing and use an scheduling event. Please see the next three screenshots to setup an event and also the last screenshot where to define it in the publication.

BOE XI R2 Error on failed instance: Unknown Database Connector Error

I have a recurring job that runs against a high availability instance of our SAP production server. This job runs every 15 minutes to make sure that the HAS reporting instanace is available to my BOE environment for reporting. This morning, one of my recurring instances failed and the associated message was "Unknown Database Connection Error." The application and system event logs on my BOE server for the period immediately prior to the instance failure did not show any issues or unusual behavior. Basis reviewed AS400 logs for the SAP instance and didn't see anything there either.
Has anyone experienced a similar error nessage for a failed instance in this sort of a scenario? The next recurring instance, and so far all subsequent runs, have been successful.

We have the same problem at times; the work around we found was to retry. Our standard is retry 3 time and wait 180 seconds. I believe the problem comes from network congestion. Our jobs usually complete on the first retry.

Monitoring AQ instances

What is a good way to monitor AQ instances? I was looking at using GV$AQ and/or
V$AQ views;
Worry with GV$AQ is that it does cross instance traffic and may contribute to
interconnect traffic;
Ran a trace on V$AQ and it does not appear to get it's stuff from
the SGA, but does runs queries on the queue tables themselves. Based on the
sql traces, it looks like these might get expensive. (there are full table scans in
the plans)
Any opinions? I am in a 9.2.0.7 version, 4 node environment with one queue with affinity to each rac node.

I have a similar report scheduled to me every morning. Something similar might work for you.
I use the following result Objects (for a Webi report):
Action Name from Actions
Server Kind from Server Information
Object Name from Actions/ Action Details/
Action Time from Actions/Action Time
Action Duration from Actions
Action Type from Actions
Action Type Details from Actions/Action Type
User Name from Actions
Action ID from Actions
The Query filters are:
Action Name ID In List : 327681;327682
You would also need to restrict Action Time. I use objects in the universe to run the report for data within 24 hrs of 6AM each weekday.
I use the following report filters:
Action Type In List : Object Folder Path
This gives the folder in with the report resides.
Other things to note:
Object Name is equivalent to the report name.
User Name is the user that ran the report.
Action Name is the scheduling status (Scheduling Failed/ Scheduling Succeeded)
Action Duration is number of seconds the report took to run.

Issue monitoring SQL instance

We are running SCOM 2012 R2 and are monitoring several SQL 2012 servers.
There is one I am having difficulty monitoring. Within the event logs I am constantly getting:
Management Group: SCOM Script GetSQL2012DBFileGroupFreeSpace.vbs : Cannot login to database [servername][mssqlserver:content_portal]
For all the SQL databases that are on the server.
I am using a dedicated Action Account that is a sysadmin on the SQL instance, a local admin on the server and I have configured the Default action profile to use the dedicated action account for that server.
I have also ran the following command:

o   Add Log On Locally permission

Note from the MP Guide:
“By default, all discoveries, monitors, and tasks defined in the SQL Server management packs default to using the accounts defined in the “Default Action Account” Run As profile. If the default action account for a given system does not have the necessary permissions
to discover or monitor the instance of SQL Server, then those systems can be bound to more specific credentials in the SQL Server Run As profiles, which do have access.”

perhaps you want to check out https://service.sap.com/jsm in order to learn more about the integration possibilities between SAP Solution Manager and SAP Central Process Scheduling by Redwood. Because of this comprehensive integration there is no specific CCMS integration but of course CPS can also write information into the CCMS via XMW interface.

File monitor failed to start. Reason: Invalid input parameters

Hi All.
Just a quick one here. I've done this lots of times before, but I am working on one environment (SCO 2012 R2 UR2) where I am trying to set up a simple Monitor File activity. However, the output I am getting from this during testing is as follows:
File monitor failed to start. Reason: Invalid input parameters.
I have seen a couple of posts around for Opalis, but these do not look to apply.
Has anyone come across this in Orchestrator rather than Opalis, and if so, is there a resolution?

Satellite P855-108 - PC health Monitor fails to update - Windows 8.1 update

Hello,
today updated to win 8.1 from a one year old windows 8, everything went fine
Then I followed Toshiba recommendations for updating the tools but despite doing exactly as explained the flash cards(and the functions buttons) are not functioning, they worked perfectly in win 8!
_The only utility that fails to update is PC health monitor,_ the version installed is 1.9.04.6402 and the one from support site for win 8.1 is 1.9.09.6400, when trying to install it fails with error message "not support"
When trying to open the installed health monitor there is also an error message "can`t get the bios type".
This is strange and every other utility recognizes the latest bios version 6.70 an the laptop`s details an serial
I tried all I could think about, installed flash card support tool from win 8, enabling and disabling in the bios, even installed VAP for win 8 but no change
Any help would be highly appreciated
Latest system driver and other tools are installed

_In case anyone is facing the same problem I managed to find a solution by my self,_
*it was caused by the old version of PC health monitor,*
uninstalled, updated to latest version
Now Function key utility and everything works as supposed, _the latest Health monitor also works fine_

Need help in Solution Manager System Monitoring-activating Instance Status

I would like to use System Monitoring with Solution Manager.
The agents CCMSPING and SAPCCM4X are installed on the monitored system and CCMS is configured
I've already created a solution and a logical component. Now i would like to activate Instance Status in the tree when i enter in Setup System Monitoring .... but i get a red alert an the following Message Instance status is no performance alert. Thresholds have been deleted ... how can i activate this Instance Status?
I am going my first steps in SAP SolMan and tried to solve this problem but i had no success. Can someone please help me? What i am doing wrong?

Monitor an instance's changes

Hello,
all information that I need to monitor with a unit monitor is included in the properties of its target instance. The monitor must react to changes of the properties of its target instances (as they change during discoveries). Such as, if one of its properties
changes from 1 to 2, monitor should go critical, when the instance's property changes from 2 to 1, it should switch back to green.
Is it possible? To have a monitor receive both the current and "yet uncommitted future" state of an instance which it targets?

hello, thanks for your interest, but it seems I do not understand. I am kind of new into MP authoring. So would you please be able to be more specific?
My class instance and its parameters are discovered with a very resource expensive operation. It takes something like several-minutes-on-one-CPU-core-at-80% to populate the properties of the instance. I do that discovery with a script surely.
If I want to monitor the changes, I can definitely use some similar script for the "monitor" to plug data from the physical system again. The problem is, I just want to save some resources and do not want to run the script again.
The resulting value is already saved in the instance as one of its properties.
So isn't there a way, a monitor or something, that would be able to react/target directly the changes in a discovered instance?
I am just inexperienced in this. What I can do now, is to extract some monitor input values from its $Target, but these are only the current properties of the instance. I need to see even the previous values after its change.
I need to react NOT ONLY to a specific constant property value. I need to see the previous and current property states to determine how to react.
Is there a way how one can create a monitor/event/anything that would receive as parameters previous/future properties of some instance?

What is the content of 'SAPUSER.log'?

Monitors fail to be identified on restart - OS 10.5.0 thru 10.6.7

This is an issue that has been happening to me ever since Leopard.
I have two VGA monitors connected via DVI to VGA adapters to my MacPro (graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 2600).
Often, on retstart, particularly after installing some software, or rebooting after a crash, the monitor profiles and calibrations fail to load, and I am only offered settings for generic VGA. When I press "detect displays", nothing changes. The profiles and calibrations are there in the Library/Colorsync folder, but they are not available. Restarting again changes nothing.
However, if I shut down and leave the machine off overnight, when I boot up in the morning, everything is back to normal and the settings are available, and the displays load correctly.
Can anyone shed any light? No idea if this will continue under Lion, as I am not updating to that yet until all the software I use is compatible.

WHY DOES BATCH MONITOR FAIL EVERY TIME SINCE LATEST OSX UPDATE?

I cannot get anything out of FCP5 into compressor without BM saying failed as server application quit unexpectedly!!!!????
This is supposed to be a commercial professional set of tools and so much of the time they just do not work!!!
Why is the BBC giving up Avid etc and moving down to FCP and compressor etc??

Same is happening here.
I've tried the Pro-Apps update and trashed the files as instructed but Compressor's Batch Monitor quits unexpectedly.
Ahhh this is really frustrating, am on a tight deadline and really need it to work.
Weird thing is that once its quit its seems to still process the files, which is a worry as I can't trust the quality of what its doing. My client is going to kill me!

Output to external monitor fail after few seconds

i upgraded my x61+X6 utlrabse docking st. to X200 with X200 ultrabase docking station.
i have a DELL 20 inch LCD as my external mointor.
the docking statition is connected using a USB-KVM to the external monitor.
with the X61 i manage to see the external monitor
with the X200 i see the external monitor and after10 sec it goes down.
few more related facts:
1)i can see in the Windows Vista HW and Driver setting that the DELL SP2008 screen is registeredbut than after10 sec it disaapear and screen goes off.
2) when i goes to Intel Graphics Media Accelerator the only option is the choose only laptop display and no external one is shown.when i swith with the kvm to another computer (actually disconnecting the external monitor) and goes back to X200 i can see for 10 sec the external monitor.
any idea what is the problem ?

I am seeing the same behavior with a T420s and a Trendnet TK-409 KVM. The KVM works with all other laptops and desktops I have connected to it so this is surprising. Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

2nd monitor fails to work after upgrade to 10.4.6
