Monitoring HD through HDMI

Hi All,
I am busy cutting HD footage that I'm monitoring through my BX (broadcast) monitor HD-SDI and my client has a large Plasma screen that he is viewing off, which the tech guy cables in off the HDMI signal from the BlackMagic Multibridge box. Obviously the BX monitor is clearer and crisper, but I was wondering if any of you could enlighten me on using HDMI...if any of you do use it and/or if I shouldn't even consider it. I for one will use the old CRT broadcast monitors for as long as possible but would love to know what you all are doing.
Thanks so much,
Cheers,
Susan.

I don't even know of any broadcast monitors which can be connected via HDMI... only consumer displays as far as I know... Can say though that a Panny or better yet a Pioneer plasma can be dialed in black level wise much better than cheaper plasmas for client monitoring... I use a 23" CD for my own ref monitor with an MXO in the mix. Can't afford a CRT HD around here... and it works great for grading as long as you keep an eye on the scopes. The CD just doesn't display black... it's sort of dark dark gray.
That said, the eCinema displays are nice... but pricey.

  • Toshiba 46TL938: Choppy 3D playback when PC-to-TV through HDMI

    Hello,
I got a very specific problem and cannot spot exactly where the problem may be. In brief:
    - I got a 3D movie which is played back through VLC but also KMplayer.
    - On my 23" monitor 1080p through HDMI the movie plays pretty well and smooth.
    - On my Toshiba 46" HDTV the playback on 3D lags sometimes, exactly the same when a computer cannot handle the load and lags on video playback.
-I tried to put the movie on a USB flash and connect it to the TV. Then the playback of the 3D on the TV was really smooth without any lag.
So facts are the frames work well on a HD 23" monitor (playedback with VLC & KMplayer), but also run smooth on my notebooks monitor.
Fact is also that the same movie plays smooth from a USB flash connected on the TV.
I tried with another movie (non 3D) to stream it from my notebook through HDMI on my TV. It worked pretty well without any lag.
    1) So my main question is if the movie is not ok, why does it play back correct through a USB but not through my notebook.
    2) Furthermore if my laptops vga would be unable to handle 1080, i guess the playback would lag also on my 23" monitor which is also 1080.
I really have no idea if it is the movie , TV, or vga that has the problem.
    Any suggestion would be great.
    Thank you in advance.
    Hardware info:
    TV: Toshiba 46TL938
    Notebook: Fujitsu Amilo xi 2528

    Hi
I dont think its TV issue.
First of all using USB flash memory stick, the movie playback is handled by Toshiba media player and secondly the data does not need to be send through an cable.
Streaming the movie from notebook, you send the signal to the TV via HDMI cable. The 3D movies contains a lot of data and this might affect the playback quality streaming the data from one device to another.
So if you would notice some interrupts while playback, this might be related to the HDMI cable.
If your HDMI connection is capable of 1080p and/or your television is capable of refresh rates greater than 50Hz, you will need a Category 2 cable. Conventional HDMI/DVI cable may not work properly with this model. Try also an short cable (1.5-2m)
You should also check the user manual *page 88.*
The HDMI inputs on this TV only accept VGA, SVGA, XGA, WXGA, and SXGA signal formats which are
compliant with VESA as shown in the table _page 88_.
Since some PCs and HDMI or DVI devices input signals which are different from the resolution and frequency described in the table, the following phenomenon may occur; _incorrect display, false format detection, picture position failure, blur, or judder_.
In this case, set the monitor output format on your PC, HDMI or DVI device to conform to a signal in the table you would find in user manual.

I just upgraded from Sapphire AMD R7 260X to Sapphire R9 270X and am having issues with the DisplayPort. • Bluray playback through HDMI monitor

Hey folks, I have a 2010 Mac mini, and as it has a HDMI connection I can only assume it's HDCP compliant, correct? If it is, and I got a monitor with a HDMI connection would I be able to play bluray movies in Windows on Bootcamp with the external bluray drive I have?
Right now it works even though I have a older monitor that isn't HDCP compliant because I'm using a trial version of AnyDVD HD that stops the HDCP checks, but I'm interested in getting a new monitor anyway so does anyone know?
    Thanks,
    Gavin.

Pioneer? I doubt that, Mac mini's are bought by a lot of people for use as media hubs, I'm sure it's the number one Mac in the living room, and with that in mind I'm sure there are loads of people out there that have added an external Bluray drive as I have.
...There has to be someone out there that's tried this with this Mac???
Are there? Then shouldn't you be getting a ka-jillion suggestions as to how to do what you ask? As I said, OSX does NOT support Blu-ray movie playback so while people do use their Macs as media centers, it is NOT for Blu-ray movies. The Mac would have to be used with Boot Camp and Windows (or Linux) so then why use a Mac for a Blu-Ray media center rather than a PC?
So again, are there "loads of people" that are using their Mac for Blu-ray movies? Just having a Blu-ray drive attached to a Mac does NOT mean it is a good Blu-ray media center. The fact that you do not get many answers implies that your premise that the Mac is used by "loads of people" for Blu-Ray moves is flawed.
Note that I am specifically correcting your statements about media centers. Macs are used for media centers, yes. But you want your media center to do something specific: Blu-ray movies. A Mac based media center is NOT the best choice for this. In fact, OSX at this moment is the WORST choice for Blu-ray movie playback. If you're not running OSX, then a PC based media center is an obviously more logical choice for Blu-ray movie playback.
I just need to know for sure so I can buy AnyDVD HD now as there is no point in waiting till I get the monitor if it still wont work without it.
Consider this: you don't want to "waste" your money on more equipment. But everyone else also doesn't want to waste their money either. So everyone else is waiting for someone else to be first. Thus my statement that you are a pioneer because the lack of response implies that you are the first...or that no one has any success...or everyone else is too selfish to post their results. So if you won't spend any money and no one else will spend any money to find out, then everyone will get no where, yada, yada, yada. You can make all the excuses you want, but the answer is simple: buy or borrow a HDMI HDCP compliant monitor, load Windows on you Mini and find out for yourself. Or don't do anything _+and be patient+_. Pardon my bluntness, but being cheap means you "pay" with patience.
...but I want to add Bluray playback to my Mac in the bedroom, and I have nowhere to put another full size device in here. :-/
Just to play Blu-ray movies? You could get a portable Blu-ray player if you really are that short on space. In my experience, people always find the space if they really want it badly enough.
So how badly do you want it? Enough to buy a monitor and find out? And even if you then find out that Boot Camp is not HDCP compliant, is that really a "waste" of a monitor? You still get a high quality monitor. And get the monitor with a dual input so that you can attach a Blu-ray player AND the Mac, then it won't be a waste. Make it a "positive excuse" to get the monitor rather than a "negative excuse" why you won't.

  • Sound through hdmi to my tv works but not when watching video online like 4OD

the sound through hdmi to my tv works with music and videos I have downloaded, but not when watching video online like 4OD and youtube.
How can I get it to work?

Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I can tell you what might be wrong -- but I cannot tell you exactly how to fix it on your TV...
I believe you need to adjust the Aspect Ratio and shove in the sides a bit on the display.
This is NOT the resolution -- that is probably fine.  Different animal.
The adjustment is likely done on the monitor itself, that is, with the buttons / settings available on the back / side of the TV - or maybe with the standard TV remote.  Keep in mind, that if you were to use a "remote" to make these adjustments, it would be the standard TV remote and NOT the cable remote that one might use with the cable service.  You want to get into the TV monitor settings.
    I hope that helps.

Yes, it would be connected through graphics card which in turn connect it to monitor display using HDMI cable."

  • Precision M6800 to monitor U3011 via HDMI cable

I just wanted to connect my Precision M6800 to the U3011 monitor using a HDMI cable. The U3011 has a native resolution of 2560 x 1600. At the monitor menu I have selected HDMI-1 input. On the laptop I pressed "WIN" + P to select the most right option "Connect to projector only".  After some seconds I get an error message "Unable to connect to projector, no projector detected".

    Hi Asu744,
This system uses Nvidia Optimus technology to help improve the battery life of your system. Basically this is the ability to switch between Nvidia and Intel video cards depending on the graphical needs of the application your running at the time. This option can be disabled in the BIOS, doing this would force the system to use only the more powerful NVidia video card. To disable, boot to the system setup (BIOS) using F2 at start up and ensure that Optimus is disabled in the Video settings.
With the Nvidia driver updated you should now be able to set up the external display through the ‘Nvidia Control Panel’ this can be accessed by right clicking the desktop background and clicking the Nvidia Control Panel. Once in the Nvidia control panel, Click “Set up multiple displays” (should be on the left side under the displays category) then select the displays desired to be shown in the right panel. Click Apply in the bottom right of the Nvidia Control Panel to save your settings and the click Yes to confirm.
Let us know how it goes!

  • MBP 13 (mid-late 2010) still won't play audio through HDMI

I would like to connect the MBP 13" I bought in 12/2010 to my HP w2408h 24" monitor through HDMI, both audio and video. I bought a Moshi mini-DP to HDMI adaptor, and hooked everything up like I was supposed to.
When I go to System Preferences > Sound to try to select HDMI as the audio out, it tells me that "The selected device has no output controls." Mind you, I've tried three different HDMI cables, including the Vizio cable I just bought (with gold-plated connectors, natch!). Furthermore, when I try to run audio from the MBP's headphone jack to the monitor's audio in port, there's nothing there!
FWIW I'm running 10.6.6, and didn't try this set up before I upgraded from 10.6.5
    What to do? Please advise.

Mind the bump, but I'm having this exact same problem and nothing I try is helping.
I have a mid-2010 MBP, so I know it supports audio. The video works just fine, but when I open up the sound and change the output setting to my tv, it also says, "The selected device has no output controls." But I KNOW that the cable and my laptop work with the audio, because I can play the sound effects under the sound preferences through my tv speakers, but nothing else. Which is REALLY confusing. There's some static coming from my tv speakers, but that's it.
If it matters I'm running 10.8.2.
Help please, and thanks in advance!
Edit... So apparently iTunes works just fine as well. WHY can't I play anything from Chrome? Ugh.

On my laptop, I have to add "options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=0xffff,0xff2" to a modprobe.d conf file. You can try that.
    sudo su
    echo "options snd-hda-intel probe_mask=0xffff,0xff2" >> /etc/modprobe.d/sound.conf
    exit
After that, restart and hopefully it will work.

I do not know the iWire adapter, but I use an inexpensive ($3) DVI to HDMI adapter from Monoprice, along with a regular HDMI cable:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041902 &p_id=2029&seq=1&format=2
Be aware that this will only transfer video. You Macbook Pro cannot combine audio through DVI to HDMI. You will need to listen to the audio through the Mac speakers, or attach speakers or a sound system to the Mac earphone jack, or determine if your TV has the ability to accept external sound from the Mac while showing video through HDMI (few can).

  • Mac mini will not recognize my hdtv through hdmi to hdmi

I just bought the new mac mini, got home super excited, hooked it up to my hdtv through hdmi to hdmi and nada.
I have a Vizio, 42-inch, 50/60 hz, Plasma TV.  It was made in 2006 so there is no DVI port, it only has an RGB port other than the 2 HDMI ports.
I have tried both HDMI ports.
I tried turning everything off, unplugging everything waiting 10 seconds, reconnecting everything and turning the mac mini on first, then the tv AND vice versa.
    Nothing.
My HDMI cable was kind of old so I went out and bought a new one from Belkin.
    Nothing.
It does look like the TV is recognizing the device because it does not say "No signal", so it seems that the mac mini itself is not recognizing it.
I just bought this thing, it has not even been setup yet!
And I do not have another moniter here to hook it up to.
I tried calling Apple Care, but I called at 7:30 waited for 30 minutes for someone to tell me they were transferring me to tech support, then the phone rang for 10 minutes.  I hung up and called back and they said the office was closed!
I am a die hard mac user, but I am at my wit's end here.
I guess my next step is to take it to the genius bar?
But I wanted to see if anyone out there has any suggestions/ideas?
(I know there are other discussions out there about this, but nothing I found actually helped my situation.
    Thanks everyone.

I just got my mac mini as well and I'm having the same problem with my HDTV. Unfortunately I am not at home so I do not have the tv model on hand but it is a Panasonic from 05/06.  I am trying to connect from the HDMI on the mini to the HDMI port on the tv and when it boots up the grey start upscreen shows up on the tv and loads for alittle bit than everything goes black. Any ideas?
