Monitoring options

Hi
I want to use two TFT screens and one broadcast monitor for colour correction through FCP.
I am editing HDV but have a SD monitor. Anyone have any suggestions as to the best way to do this?
Thanks

Color correcting for....what sort of output? Best to have an HD monitor for color correction since HD footage has a different gamma than SD footage.

• Best Practice for ASA Route Monitoring Options?

We have one pair Cisco ASA 5505 located in different location and there are two point to point links between those two locations, one for primary link (static route w/ low metric) and the other for backup (static route w/ high metric). The tracked options is enabled for monitoring the state of the primary route. the detail parameters regarding options as below,
Frequency: 30 seconds Data Size: 28 bytes
Threshold: 3000 milliseconds Tos: 0
Time out: 3000 milliseconds Number of Packets: 8
------ show run------
sla monitor 1
type echo protocol ipIcmpEcho 10.200.200.2 interface Intersite_Traffic
num-packets 8
timeout 3000
threshold 3000
frequency 30
sla monitor schedule 1 life forever start-time now
------ show run------
I'm not sure if the setting is so sensitive that the secondary static route begins to work right away, even when some small link flappings occur.
What is the best practice to set those parameters up in the production environment. How can we specify the reasonanble monitoring options to fit our needs.
Thank you for any idea.

Hello,
Of course too sensitive might cause failover to happen when some packets get lost, but remember the whole purpose of this is to provide as less downtime to your network as possible,
Now if you tune these parameters what happen is that failover will be triggered on a different time basis.
This is taken from a cisco document ( If you tune the sla process as this states, 3 packets will be sent each 10 seconds, so 3 of them need to fail to SLA to happen) This CISCO configuration example looks good but there are network engineers that would rather to use a lower time-line than that.
sla monitor 123
type echo protocol ipIcmpEcho 10.0.0.1 interface outside
num-packets 3
frequency 10

• External monitor options For Macbook Pro(2011)

Just curious as to what my monitor options are as a external monitor for the Macbook Pro. I'm pretty much set on 27'' thunderbolt display but its a hefty price to swallow...
Best buy has some good deals on there 27'' monitor but can i get the same resolution and clarity from other brands that will be eqivalent to Apple?
I'd like to stay in the 27'' to 30'' size...
thanks

Any other options like Samsung, LG etc... that offer the same specs as the thunderbolt display?
Thanks

• Output to monitor options

My late 2011 13" MBP only has one TB output which I currently use (TB to hdmi adaptor ) for my samsung hdmi monitor but would like to use the TB out to connect to a TB HD that also only has one TB port. What are my options if any?
Many thanks
Dave

Thanks for your help, I was just referring to
>> Since Thunderbolt displays should always be at the end of a Thunderbolt chain, I'm not surprised that the display you're looking at has only one TB port.<<
It's not a TB Display as I said & understand that if it was why it would only have one TB port, but this point is a little redundant/confusing as it's not relevant to "this" conversation.
I have however looked at TB hubs & the Caldigit TB hub seems like a good option especially at below $200. --> http://eshop.macsales.com/item/CalDigit/TSUS60/
There also seems to be a much cheaper option ($58) USB to hdmi/VGA option both at OWC . This of course ties up a USB port but I might try this first because of price--> http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Newer%20Technology/VIDU2DVIA/

• 'Setup System Monitoring' option is disabled in solution manager

Hello,
I am trying to setup system monitoring for different systems in solution manager but the 'Setup System Monitoring' is disabled.
In solman I go to Solution_manager --> Operations Setup --> on the right side pane 'Setup System Monitoring' is disabled. How can you change this to change mode so that you can configure monitoring for different systems? Any idea, please help.
Thank you in advance.

• Apple monitor options for pismo?

hi all,
i'm thinking of getting an external monitor for my pismo - to give the lcd a rest and as an extended display for fcp etc. i was thinking of a 17" crt apple studio display - the clear backed ones - as it wouldn't bee too expensive and they look cool as well. however i've been told that these monitor don't have an agp connection and a converter is big $$. i could get a new (non-apple) lcd, or second hand non-apple 17" quite cheaply, but with google having proved fruitless i'm just wondering what apple options there might be?
cheers!
sennen.
G4 550 pismo Mac OS X (10.3.9)

ah, thanks for that jpl! i have that adapter! tho i'm wondering if that document refers to the clear or graphite crt displays or both? i was told by a re-seller that the clear backed crt a) doesn't have the right connection, and b) as the power and monitor connection is all in the same cable that it won't run off a powerbook... could be bad info...

• ASA SLA Monitoring Options

Hi,
Does the "Number of packets" option mean that all the packets specified must exceed the threshold, or is it only one that can be missed? The internet connection for the config below is not very reliable and ping responses are regularly dropped. I beleive this could be causing the route to change to the backup connection when not needed.
Thanks

Hello Dustin,
The "number of packets" configuration is the amount of ICMP request packets that are going to go out from the ASA to the target, and these packets are the ones that are going to be inspected or monitored so if they are getting regularly dropped the test is not going to pass and a Failover between the routes will happen.

• Thunderbolt to SDI Monitoring Options?

I've been reading here that the current SDI reference monitor setup I've used for Resolve will not work wtih Speedgrade since it uses the Blackmagic Mini Monitor to connect Thunderbolt to the SDI.
I'm interested in moving over to Speedgrade for grading if possible, but I'm using the new MacPro and iMacs -- none of which work with nVidia cards. At this point all Apple Mac solutions will need to be Thunderbolt based.
So what is the simplest and least expensive way to get an SDI signal from a thunderbolt port that is compatible with Speedgrade?
Thanks!

BMD makes 4 different types of TB output devices, Aja makes another 3.
You have to decide what works for you and your workflows since you have not mentioned what type of content you work, so it's impossible to offer suggestions. Option are available for HD and 4K output from both companies.

• Current Monitoring Options?

I'm running a DeckLink card to an HDLink SDI->DisplayPort and onto a DreamColor.
This doesn't work with SG.
I'm looking at what other options i have.
It seems that the simplest might be a Quadro 4000 display port into the DreamColor as a second video card. It should be 10bit and RGB so should work with the DreamEngine colour processing. Does that sound like a plan?
The downside is that my original route is all video, which means that motion is rendered at exact frame rates whereas i'm worried that a card into dreamcolour will mess with the frame redraws (i.e. not be *exactly 50Hz* but over or under slightly.
What is everyone else doing?
thanks!
Paul

I have 2 cards because of Resolve ironically. (Only one outputs video to screens though)
In Premiere I have GUI for PPro application on 1 and full screen monitoring on the 2nd.. plus a BM card (sdi) to a BC Monitor.
IN SG I have GUI for SG application on 1 and full screen monitoring on the 2nd.
Neither of these setups use the 2 cards like Resolve does. ie. 1 for Monitoring...the other for GPU processing.
IN SG I see no way to set up two graphic cards.
Only solution I see is to dump the BM cards (!!!) and use AJA cards..

• No Firewire Monitoring: Options?

If Color doesn't do firewire out (yet?) how does one judge color? I understand that judging off the 23" CD isn't ideal but if there is no other option, what setup and gamma is closest to ntsc ..2.2?

Here are my concerns.
A train of translation devices is by definition a compromise. The PCIe/SDI cards are the simplest and most direct solution and were developed for a user base typically running a Final Touch installation with calibrated monitors and SDI scopes, working in 2K and uncompressed HD.
FireWire may eventually happen, but it is self-limiting to highly compressed formats simply due to bandwidth requirements -- most VCR interfaces are, what? FW400? Sure, okay for DVCProHD... but uncompressed 1080? I don't think so.
Maybe the wizards at Apple can leap the gap... but over the past few years it has been a mighty struggle to get the app to this point -- something major got broken every time the original team needed to accomodate some new version of it to accommodate a new workflow, or card, or something. This version of it-- "COLOR" is no exception, believe me. But given the new, wider, "consumer" base, maybe the effort will be worth another raft of bugs.
(Lame attempt at humour: My version of "fire" works, but there are a lot of requests for it not to be so "hot", why does it only use "wood", does it only come in one colour?, and why can't it be fitted nasally?)

• What is net monitor option in Nokia 1200?

Hi guys today I bought Nokia 1200 for backup. It’s a low end phone but found very useful. There is an option called "Net monitor" in menu. Sometimes it appear and sometime just vanish, If I go through this, its asked for some digit and title bar show "test" but after press some digit and ok nothing happened. I can’t understand what that is. Anybody has any idea? I already press 101, 000 like some digit, has it activated any hidden option? If it is then do I have to press other digit for deactivate? What is that? Thanks.

dear adnan,
what you hav just found is a net monitor tool that is used bye RF Field engineers to observe the singnal level and quality. If you are really intersted in this you can download user manual for net monitor from internet(available in pdf format). I hope this info. is of some help to you.

• New Mac Pro Due...Monitor Options

Hi,
I've ordered a new MP, due in 3-4 weeks, but now I need a Monitor. I also have a late 2012 iMac 27".
I'm a semi-pro photographer who prints so a monitor that calibrates reasonably well is important. I find the iMac is not so great.
I'm considering Dell U2713H, Viewsonic VP2722, NEC PA272W and good old Apple Thunderbolt Display.
Does anyone have any experiences to share in terms of getting the ATD to profile well for printing. The price of the Dell and Viewsonic is nicer but I have heard bad reports about OSX issues with the Dell
Grateful for any reports/experience
Thx
Paul

I haven't used most of the models you listed, but it would be very hard to go wrong with the NEC PA272, especailly if you buy a calibrator that is compatible with the monitor's internal calibration through DisplayPort (like the SpectraView that comes bundled if you buy that version). The PA272 totally blows away the Apple display no matter how you look at it: Gamut size, calibration accuracy, calibration versatility (multiple presets), tilt and pivot, KVM capability... The only measure where the Apple is better is that it costs a little less.
I'm a big Apple fan but there's no way you could convince me to take an Apple Thunderbolt display over the PA272.
The Dell looks like a good alternative because it seems of the same generation as the NEC. Another one to look at which seems to use similar hardware as the Dell & NEC is the Asus PA series. All three use wide-gamut GB-LED panels if I am not mistaken, so that puts all of them in a class above most consumer monitors. I don't know much about the ViewSonic.
Overall I'd say the Dell and Asus would be the reasonable mid-price options (though I have also heard some OS X issues with the Asus too), the NEC for the tried and true though more expensive, and the Apple display not really in the running. Compared to the Apple, the other three monitors use much more up-to-date and wide-gamut panel technology and simply have more useful features than the Apple.

• G4ti4600 dual monitor option doesn't show

Alright This is so weird.. Card has been working great for the last 2 months or so. I went to reinstall winxp as I have done before and this time when I installed the drivers off the msi cd for the video card. I rebooted and normally would setup the options for dual display. Well under the video settings it only shows one monitor. Where before it had always showed two I can even setup any option to play movies to the tv. Anyone have any suggestions..?

Does the nVIDIA nVIEW panle show up in the control panel ?
Did you try some drivers from the internet (28.32 cause absolutly no problems, beta 40.xx are also available from nVIDIA).
