Monitoring perfromance of xMII v11.5

I am working to define some performance monitoring standards for our xMII servers.  I did see some SAP notes that this is improved in v12 by using Netweaver CCMS, but with all that is involved with migrating I don’t think that it is likely we will pursue this in the near future.  I am wondering if anyone can provide any direction or recommendations for monitoring performance of xMII v11.5?  I did find some general information from Microsoft on performance counters for IIS, but I was wondering if there is anything specific from an xMII perspective?  Any feedback would be appreciated.

BTW - interesting use of your process historian
The intervals in the stats log depend upon the particular item itself, hourly, etc.
Active users should be essentially a current snapshot of who's logged in (similar to the html table you see when you run the Active Sessions web page) and unique users lets you differentiate between redundant logins.
System memory stats are similar - just an active snapshot of the present state of affairs.
The Data Server stats are more usage based and incremental, meaning that if a given data server is not accessed in the log interval it will not be mentioned.  The same is true for user to data source requests and rows of data requested.  This usage data allows you to see usage patterns and potentially look for users requesting out of the ordinary volumes of data that could lead to data server stress and/or server memory and cpu burden.  The in state memory holders for these log entries are cleared after the log entry is created, and the counting/capturing starts over until the next interval.

  • XMII v11.5.3 and JRE1.6

For xMII v11.5.3, doco suggests clients should have JRE 1.4.2_13 to 1.5.0_06.
However, is JRE 1.6.0_* OK on the client side?  (Note: xMII server runs 1.4.2_13).

    Kevin,
It has never been tested and you can do so at your own risk.  I know some people are running it and have not noticed any problems but everyone is different.  If you do try it out please give a update if you had any problems.

  • Metrics, monitoring security in xMII and Scan groups

    Hi all
How does scan groups work ? (e.g. 5MIN, 15MIN etc.) Can the user choose his own time interval, e.g. he wants to schedule something to be run every 25 minutes, but we don't want to define scan groups for every possible time interval, Can we let the user control and enter the time interval he wants (e.g. every 35 minutes etc.)?
How does security work in xmii with respect to metrics and monitors. If the user is given access to this metrics screen so he can create his own metrics, what kind of security is required and is there any issues if we do it ?
I believe the metrics and monitoring are stored in a database, whatever database we specify when installing xMII ActivePortal. Please let me know  into how does it get stored. Can we manually add/change information in those tables to create own metrics instead of going through the xMII metrics screen.
i want to understand whether we should give the users xMII screen to maintain themselves, or we need to build something customized
    thanks
    Veeresh

    Hi Veeresh,
talking about Metrics Alert and Services it is very important to give an information about the xMII version you use.
Reason: Between 11.5 and 12.0 there is a technical change  how Scan Groups will be processed. 11.5 uses Windows Schedules of the Operating System. 12.0 uses scheduled Transactions.
The Metrics Alert and Services are given as they are and I do not recommend to do any modifications to the original pages.
Regarding your question about the security:
You openend already a thread to discuss this:
    [Monitors and Metrics]
Please ask only one question per thread.
Information regarding Metrics Alert and Services are stored in the Active Portal Database. Of course you can write into this tables creating you own userinterface - at your own risk of course. That's the way it normally works if you make changes to the standard.
    Ciao

  • Installation advice for xMII V12.0

    Hi all,
xMII is my first foray into the SAP experience.  We are planning a POC using xMII to build a simple MES system with communication to existing SAP ECC/ERP, various PLCs and Proficy iHistorian and printing to Zebra label printers.  We have a sandbox xMII V11.5 installed and working with ECC via RFCs/JCO.
It makes sense to use xMII V12 for the POC as we will not be going live for a year and the work we are doing now is discovery work.  We are planning a new installation as the requirement for NetWeaver changes requirements quite dramatically.
I have been looking through the mountain of documents on Wikis, document sites, and Blogs and have found Master guides, Installation Guides, Upgrade Guides, Release Notes, Config Guides, SAP Notes...  Then there is JCO, SAP JRA, UDSs of various types, Netweaver (UME, WebAS, CCMS, ...), JRE, database, Windows...  I am attempting to make a list of what needs to be installed and in what order for the POC. I have not found a definitive source of information on the installation of an xMII server.  -Does one exist?-
Here is my current list of what to install on the xMII server, in the order they must be installed.  I could use some feedback!
The server:  Dell Optiplex GX620  -  1G RAM - 2.8Ghz - 40Gb HD -Is this adequate?  More RAM? More Disk?-
    Windows Server 2003
    MS SQL Server 2005
Sun JRE 1.4.2_16  (When will this be upgraded to 1.6, or even 1.5!)
Is JAVA_HOME required?  Does it matter which JRE is in the Windows PATH environment variable?

P.S.  I have been impressed by the quality of the posts on this forum.  I look forward to joining the community!

    Amy,
This is probably not what you want to hear but the guide will most likely not be updated since the JDBC driver and it's configuration is specific to the vendor and not SAP.  This is the reason for all of the various configuration fields you see in the xMII Data Server configuration screen.  It allows the xMII system to support a connection via any JDBC driver.  The MS site where you downloaded the 2005 driver from has the Server URL defined there and there are plenty of supplementary sites on configuring the URL properly for your system.  If you still think it should be added then please create a CSN/CSS message requesting the change.
To cover some previous comments on the NW installation, plan for approx 2-4 days in installing and configuring Solution Manager; if you don't already have it in your corporate landscape.  The actual installation took me 20hrs on a 2GB RAM Dual-DualCore 2 GHz CPU machine and took approx 45 GBs of space (This is now required by SAP and last I checked was free).  You'll need this because it will help you maintain/manage your various systems corporate wide.  Also it is needed to generate "Solution Manager Keys" which are required for NW installations and to download NW support package updates from Service Marketplace.
Once that's done it's about 3 hours for each successive NW AS Java installation and about 5 minutes for the xMII v12 deployment and finished off at around 5GBs of space.
This is all in the guide I am putting together along with a "High-Availability" section which is adding some extra time to it's release but I can guarantee it's worth the wait!
It's nice to see that you've done your homework on this, hope this helps to explain and clarify...

  • Time before unlocking locked tables

    Hello,
i have a problem once again:
I execute several SQLs in a database (p.e. insert, update and so on). Before i can execute the transaction commit, the connection to the database breaks. So i can do neither the commit less the rollback.
In the database my session is inactive, the tables stay locked for some time.
And now the question: is it possible for me (or the administrator) to change this internal timer, which controls the unlock of tables in inactive sessions?
    greetings
    Sabine Herdejürgen

Before i can execute the transaction commit, the connection to the database breaks. So i can do neither the commit less the rollback.
no problem process monitor perfrom these task when
when connection break ,or any other error
The background process PMON cleans up after failed processes by:
    • Rolling back the user’s current transaction
    • Releasing all currently held table or row locks
    • Freeing other resources currently reserved by the user

  • Problem during summer time switch with all date functions

    Hello,
During the summertime switch, we faced some issues in MII (12.1.9 Build(116)).
We are receiving the date/time in GMT XML format from our shop floor system.
I noticed when the date/time is between 02:00 and 03:00, all date functions are not working in expression editor (like in assign block).
For example : datefromxmlformat("2014-03-30T02:00:01","yyyyMMdd HHmmss") will return nothing... Even adding the Z to tell it's UTC does not help :
    datefromxmlformat("2014-03-30T02:00:01Z","yyyyMMdd HHmmss"), but no success...
Even worst, the expression dateaddminutes("2014-03-30T02:00:01","10") will lead to a conversion exception...
Is there a solution to this ?
    Thanks

  • How to monitor/view alerts in R3 sent from xMII

    Hi,
In my version of SAP R/3 (4.70) the transaction 'alrtdisp' does not exist. Can any body suggest how to view / monitor KPI alerts in R/3 sent from xMII?
Edited by: Siddhartha Bhattacharya on Jan 2, 2008 12:09 PM

When i send the alert to R/3 version 4.70 the BLS alert action is executed without any error (although I have not found a way to view the alert in R/3 in this version). But when I send the alert to an R/3 system of version 6.40 the BLS alert action thorws an error UNKNOW_ALERT_CATEGORY.
Yet the alert category that is called from xMII alert action is present in the SAP system.
The only place that I found to specify the alert category in alert action is the "Alert text" property. There I specified the exact matching Category name.
Do you guys have any idea what is going wrong.
It would also be helpfull if anybody can suggest a way to view alerts in R/3 version 4.70 (equivalant to "alrtdisp" in 6.40).

  • Monitoring JMX with What's Up Gold v11

I'm not a Java developer but work with a lot of them (I am in IT, not dev). We use What's Up Gold to monitor our servers and applications. We would like to monitor our Java application with What's Up Gold. This includes monitoring Java and Tomcat.
    Any help would be appreciated!
We've not been able to even get simple SNMP monitoring going. Would like something more like the JConsole within What's Up Gold.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi,
I am not too sure about how you could possibly plug any of this in "What's Up Gold" as I don't
know this product, but the apache site has some doc about monitoring Tomcat with JMX, using
a JMX ant task on the client side.
    http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/monitoring.html
I have also written some example to show how to get at the JVM information using java, or jruby..

  • XMII Login from Html page under xMII Version 12

    Hi,
    I found this thread
    xMII Login from Html page
but I'm not sure this will also work under xMII  Version 12.
    I have now this question:
Is it possible to use a url login with loginname and password under xMII V12 similar this example for Version 11.5:
    http://server/Lighthammer/Login.jsp?IllumLoginName=accountname&IllumLoginPassword=accountpassword&session=true&target=/Test/report.irpt
    Many thanks in advance

    Hi,
Has anyone had any luck with this - displaying a v12 MII screen without requiring login?
We need to be able to do this as well in order to display read-only screens on large screen monitors on the manufacturing floor without requiring login to MII.
Under v11.5 it worked with no issues.  Under v12, we haven't figured out how to do it yet.
I've waded through the NetWeaver UME documentation, have searched through the NetWeaver forums, etc. but to this point have had no luck in making it work.
We've tried enabling the UME Guest account, assigning Guest to the anonymous group and guest role (and xMII Users role), creating a Navigation for the Guest user, but still the NetWeaver login screen is displayed.
MII experts - if you are aware of how to do this can you please give detailed instructions instead of just referencing the NetWeaver / UME documentation?
    Thank you for your help!

  • What system config are you running for xMII 12.1.x?

If you are running xMII 12.1.x, can you please briefly explain your setup?  I presume you are running Windows 64-bit, but what kind of processor, how much memory, and how many users?  Is the performance/response time good?

    Todd,
The documents here on v12.1 performance may be useful as they go into performance numbers, performance monitor log analysis, and NetWeaver CE system settings.

  • Read Idoc Data In xMII 12 BLS Transaction

    Hi All,
    I am new to xMII.
I followed the instructions suggested in the Document "How to Send an IDoc from the SAP R/3 Enterprise to the SAP xMII IDoc Listener" By Diana Hoppe and Michael Appleby written on 04 Dec 2008. It was pretty simple  and i was able to complete all the steps.
In the Message Monitor in xMII 12.0 i am able to see " 5 Messags Found" and they are listed below in a grild with the server name, Message Name, Message Type etc
    Example
Server Name   Message Type    Message Name    Message Category   Received Time                      Processing Time
       MII_IDOC          IDoc                     LOIPRO01            MII_IDOC                    2009-07-10 02:11:25.911
Now i would like to know how do i read the contents of this IDOC i.e Production order? Is there a sample or  stepby step guide which explains how i can get this data into an xML message in a BLS Transaction?
Are there any simple steps to be followed to get this data from the IDOC?
Please help me undestand this. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Dipankar,
I had Pre ordered your book and I  just received a copy. The first impression wrt the Contents & Coverage of the book looks excellent.
Congratulations to you and Abesh on this achievement. Writing a book on a topic which there has been no book written earlier is a great feat on its own.
Will be spending more time with the book today evening.
    My Expectations from this book:
    1. A good intermediate to Expert developer/ BA / Architect guidance.
    2. Error Handling & Implementation - Best practices
    3. A Reference book for the current implementation I am doing with a customer :).
Will keep you updated with my comments on the book. Since this is a first time I am working on a xMII implementation this book will be a life saver for me and could not have come at a better time. Thanks again.
BTW u2013 First thing I checked in the book was steps on how to read the data from the IDOC in the Buffer and that has been explained pretty well and in detailsu2026.. Thanks again for that.

  • [Non IE Regression] Support for full screen mode with multiple monitors

This seems to be a regression with Flash Player v11.2.202.x (for all other browsers).
With Internet Explorer it is still working.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/890/cpsid_89050.html
== Support for full screen mode with multiple monitors ==
Full screen content will remain in full-screen on secondary monitors, allowing users to watch full-screen content while working on another display.
    Tested on Windows 7 x64 SP1 with:
    - Internet Explorer 9
    - Firefox Release, Beta, Aurora, Nightly
    - Opera 12 build 1116
    In bugbase.adobe.com I cannot choose v11.2.x

Please vote for it If you have the same problem:

Check if XMII and MII_ADMIN are from the same SP. That might happen if they are from different SPs.
