Monitoring sound in a room, is it possible?

I want to be able to have garage band operating and have it record without myself being present, but I would like it to stop recording when there is no sound. Is this possible?

No.

Well, I really would love the new unreleased mac pro however , I'm not sure of the expected cost , Everyone speculates from $3,000 to $8,000, in which I may have to wait a while to purchase.
To the point .... I want fully functional thunderbolt ports to be on the current mac pro's .... wonder if anyone had workarounds yet?...  or could I chain the the current mac pro to a mac mini to make that happen?

  • I am considering buying a new MAC laptop to run LOGIC for composition and band live/recording, but which one is best as I do not want to spend too much money? Does it have a line in and how do you monitor sound? Will I need adaptors and a interface?

I am considering buying a new MAC laptop to run LOGIC for composition and band live/recording, but which one is best as I do not want to spend too much money?
Does it have a line in and how do you monitor sound?
Will I need adaptors and an interface?
Also, I am guessing as Logic only runs on MAC surely then they would not the best spec to recommend to run it?
I see all the upgrades as additional memory or a faster process?
Is a retina screen necessary, and why flash based storage against a 1TB hard drive, and a i5 instead of an i7
The main reason for this purchase is to play live and use backing tracks and record found sounds and make creative songs.
I hope you can provide some valuable feedback, as I am a longtime MAC user and see upgrades and changes happen regularly but the most important thing is the songs not the equipment.
I have £500 already and willing to add another 500 to 700 pounds, then software extra.

  • Monitoring Sound does one get a monitor for sound? Thanks.

In iMovie 08, I have two inputs, iSight camera (old stand alone model) and a fw analog to digital input. I record, and I hear sound on play back, but not when I am recording. How Can I turn on the monitor sound? BTW, sound is not muted in the Project window, as all sounds play when I hit the Play button. Thank you.

The old iMovie imported only from dv based firewire devices, and imported in real time, so playing the sound made sense on import.
The new iMovie imports from additional devices that require conversion of highly compressed formats during the import process. These include MPEG2 and AVCHD files on SDHC cards, Hard Drives, and DVD based camcorders. These new devices do not necessarily import in real time. They mostly take a lot longer than real time, but in theory, they could also be quicker than real time if you had a fast enough processor.
So...once you are not importing in real time, playing the sound doesn't make sense. They don't play sound on import for anything (real-time or non-real time) probably for simplicity and to avoid confusion.

  • Monitoring sound from HP Dreamcolor Z24x

    Hi,
I have recently purchased an HP Dreamcolor Z24x and would like to monitor sound from my Avid editing system while playing picture over the Dreamcolor.
Previously, I would play audio on my computer and monitor it via external speakers attached to an Avid Fast Track Duo sound card.  However, with the HP Dreamcolor attached to my computer (via a Blackmagic Mini Monitor) I am no longer to hear any audio from the computer.
I am assuming that I need to monitor the audio after it has been fed from the blackmagic card into the HP Dreamcolor, but am unsure of how to do this.  Is anyone able to help me figure out how to monitor my sound?  Many thanks.

    Hello John,
For not having sound sometimes from the speakers, until you disable the audio enhancement. I would first like to confirm if you have tried this update for your audio drivers 'IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver'.
I have also included the document 'No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8)'. I would suggest following through all the steps in this document. Does the Troubleshooting Tool find any issues, or does everything pass?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

  • Monitoring sound for capture

    Hello -
I have read through a few posts with similar dilemmas regarding how to monitor sound while capturing/logging. I now know I'm not going deaf.
I have a Sony DSR-20 deck and will be soon changing that to a DSR-11 deck, and was planning to log shot-by-shot and then batch dig each tape. Obviously during interview footage I need to hear the sound.
I also have temporary use of an NTSC monitor on loan, but I can't figure out how to hook up speakers to that. I don't have the right speakers, obviously, just my old ones with those red/white wires that I have on my ANCIENT stereo system.
Should I invest in new speakers or just hook up my television to the deck? I know it's not perfect (that's ancient too). I am going crazy not being able to start this process since I only have this deck for a week or so.
As a side note, I know that can instead import each full tape one by one and then go back and make subclips, hearing the sound at that point after the media has been captured. I'm not entirely clear on that process, whether you delete the original media and recapture based on your subclips, but that's for another post.
I sound muddled and I am muddled. Any help will be so appreciated.
    15" Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1 GHz, 1 GB SDRAM, 60 GB HD

    thank you.
I had read in an earlier post about it being better to listen to the audio off the VTR, not the computer, but I will try your suggestion as well. I just don't want to overtax my Powerbook G4 as I log and capture.
    Any other input?
(quoted below, submitted last January by Studio X)
When you download a video file from your camera, FCP and, more to the point, Quicktime is working furiously to split the muxed DV stream into distinct audio and video components. Though they stay within the same file wrapper, they are transcoded into unique components.
The point of this is to explain that the computer (CPU, RAM, ect) are working very hard to do this conversion. Now, to ask the computer to figure out and play the audio while you are converting it just simply adds more CPU/RAM overhead to A VERY TIME SENSITIVE process. The conversion MUST happen in real time or frames are dropped.
This is why it is highly recommended that you monitor your audio on speakers attached to your VTR not through your computer. It is also why FCP gives such a low res and slow refresh on the video component.

  • Qosmio G40 - How do I monitor sound input?

I have installed Adobe Audition on my Qosmio G40 but have been unable to monitor sound input or get Auditon to record. (It used to work fine on my xp pc) I have been able to record sound but cannot listen to it as its 'going in'. I also tried to install an external sound card: CREATIVE EXTIGY but cannot get the laptop to recognise that it is installed.
Can EXTIGY work with my laptop?
How do I monitor sound input?
The installed sound card is Realtek
    Advice welcome.
    Sean.

I presume you mean the menu when you right-click the volume control icon on the desktop toolbar. It does list the input devices and when a mini jack input is connected the simulated led lights respond to the volume of the input. I can record from the line input but I cannot hear it as it is going in. In other words it records it silently but plays it back okay.
The device manager declares that the sound card is working without problems,
Somehow I want to be able to hear the input as it is being recorded and I have not been able to find out how yet. Some people have been telling me that it is a vista problem. Others say that its the laptop manufacturers who set up the laptop so that when recording line input the sound is disabled to prevent feedback from the external mic on the laptop.
Either way I am a bit astonished that I cannot resolve this problem and it is not a problem that has been mentioned before when you consider how many thousands of people are buying Toshiba laptops !!
A few days ago I emailed Realtek but have not held my breathe for a reply.
Its looking like I might have to uninstall vista and reinstall xp to solve this problem.

  • IPod and laptop sound in a room

    Hello,
I am designing a yoga studio and want sound in the room. With my experience yoga teachers have their own ‘song list’ on an iPod or laptop and want to plug in to the amplification system when they teach. What I would like to offer in the room is the ability to plug their devices into the in room sound system. An iDock would be fine but this would not allow teachers to plug in their laptops. Is there an application on the market (like a wall iJack) that would allow plug in of both iPods and laptops?
    Thank you,

    No.

  • Monitor Sound Won't Work - Windows 7

Hi there... just set up a new (for me, anyway) pc, and this HP w1907 Widescreen LCD Monitor was the only one I had to use, unfortunately. When everything was first installed and new, sound played just fine through the monitor speakers without issue. I was able to fully update Windows; still no problems. I was playing World of Warcraft a couple nights ago and suddenly my sound just stopped and I haven't been able to fix it.
Unfortunately, I've tried just about every solution listed for this problem (that I could find) and not one of these has worked. There are no problems with my auxilary cable; it's brand new, and I checked it with something else just in case.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know! Thanks.

    Hello writkeeper,
I understand that your sound is not working anymore.
Here is a link that will walk you through the steps to trouble shoot the issue.
If it has not been to long since the problem started, you can run a system restore.
This will take the system back to when everything was working correctly without affecting your personal files.
Here is a link on how to do a restore.
Let me know how everything goes.

  • T430s 2352CTO 2 external monitors and laptop's LCD - is it possible?

    Hello,
I'm new to this forum, actually this is my first post, but I've been reading it for a while. I searched and searched and read till I'm blue in my face plus ran bunch of experiments and still can't figure out the issue.
this article clearly states it is possible to run triple display setup (assuming 1 of them is laptop's LCD) and 2 others are on Display Ports. http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT074304
But in my experience it is impossible.
I have 2 identical ViewSonic monitors (VG2236) connected to a Mini Dock Plus (433815U) via Display Port to DVI cables. In this configuration I can only use these two monitors or one of them in conjunction with laptop's LCD.
Windows display utility recognises all three displays but will shut the third one down if I try to extend the desktop to more than 2.
Please confirm that this configuration is possible or what am I doing wrong.
I really need to be able to use laptop's LCD and 2 external dispays for my work, that's the reason I bought the i7 version with descrete graphics
    Thanks,
    Sergei

You'll want to make sure you have all of the most recent drivers and BIOS updates installed.
If that doesn't work, please take a look at this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/Multiple-monitors-with-T430s-Nvidia/td-p/77...

  • Will my W2072a monitor sound work with VGA to VGA connection?

HP guy said I need DVI to get sound.  I used HDMI from PC to DVI on Monitor and still no sound  No where in documentation does itr say VGA to VGA won't work for sound!  Tried most everything in forums  Sound vard ok as external speakers work fine.  HELP!!!!

vga is a simple video signal, also most dvi will not support audio.
Some graphics card seems to support this now, see:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface#DVI_and_HDMI_compatibility
Normally you have to use a hdmi graphics card or a monitor which can be connected to the audio output of the pc.

  • Launch Multi-Camera Monitor - Sound goes away

    Hi,
I've been re-trying this for two days - and can not, for the live of me, figure out what is happening.  I have started from clips in a new folder and re-building the project from scratch - no joy (old Navy term).  The thing that is frustrating to me - is I've done this before and everything worked fine.
I realize you-all are quite precise,  so here is my process:
I have a sequence where I have the clips from two cameras and they are syncronized (using Plural Eyes)
I have extracted .WAV files in Audo 1  and 2 (linked to video 1) and Audio 3 and 4 (linked to Video 2) -  (I did a render and replace)
    I create a new sequence
from the project window - I drag the synced sequence to this new sequence - it becomes nested - (I have sound - everything is great)
In the Nested sequence I select and rightclick the clip and select Mulit Camera >> Enabled and the title of the sequence gets a new prefix [MC1] -  (I have sound - everything is great on the entire sequence)
THEN - on the Menu Bar - I click Window>>Multi-Camera Monitor - the Sound disappears.
    Results:
This sound should be coming from Video 2  and it's link to Audio 3 and 4 - But no deal......  It is soundless when looking from both the Multi-Camera Monitor and the Program Monitor.  If I move further in the sequence where Video 1 happenes to be playing (Audio 1 and 2) - I have sound again.
As a note: If I go back to the original synced sequence - everything seems normal - I have sound through-out the sequence.
    Question:
What happended to the audio (3 and 4) in the nested sequence?
    Thanks,
    Chris

This morning - I took a new look at theMulit-camera Monitor - and found a new button hiding on the bottom of the screen - I needed to select the audio
    This fixes my problem
    Sorry for the Alert!

  • Surround Sound in other rooms

    Hi
I own a fairly new imac. Im renovating an old house at the moment and I'd like to use my mac as an entertainment centre. The mac will be kept in the office adjacent to the living room but id like to be able to watch movies, play itunes and surf the net etc. I assume I can just do this through an HDMI cable?
Big question is, can if have surround sound in my living room, kitchen and bathroom so I can zone each one out or in as the case may be.
I use a wireless mouse and keyboard and I have tested the range so I can use these all over the house which is excellent.
Do you know a way to zone out the audio/visual for each of the rooms so I can have silence in one while music/visual in the other?

You need to connect the Apple TV to the receiver inputby HDMI, then the receiver output to the TV. Ensure that you set the correct settings on the receiver for the imput who have chosen.
