Monitoring Templates Versus Notifications

please correct me if I am wrong, when we set up Notifications, OEM with use the default metrics to send email if errors/warnings occur. what if, I have monitoring templates set up with our own metric, how does this monitoring templates work together with notifications? I guess, my question is how can I assign the monitoring Templates so I can get email based from the metric I assigned.
I am a little confused about how these two worked, if something can give my some insight, I would greatly appreciated.

I generally see monitoring templates and notifications as two separate entities. First evaluate if some of your metrics are better managed as a UDP, user defined policy, than metric. I have templates for production, non-production, hpux, linux, aix, etc. I then apply that template to the corresponding policy for updates or changes in standards. I then would go to preferences and notifications/rules and create a notification rule. I generally create one notification rule per user based on that user's group of clients. That way when someone is out another DBA can cover by simply adding that target to their group.
Hope that answered your question or wasn't too much info. Let me know if you have anything further.
Cheers,

  • Monitoring templates and notification rules

    Hello
I was able to create monitoring templates defining the thresholds I needed and create de notifications rules.
Now where can I see them being used ? How can I see the results of a template? Where do the notifications rules publish the information?
    Thanks
    Gonçalo Ribeiro

    Hello,
I want to apply the template to a db instance and I would like to see that information on the db instance home page on the Category alerts.
Can't I do that? The templates only work if I define a notification method?
    Thanks

  • Diff btwn Monitoring Template and Notification Rules

Can anyone tell me the difference btwn when I should use a Monitoring Template and when I should use Notification Rules? I understand that there is a calendar setup for Notification Rules, but other than that, when should I use which? They look like they do the same thing.

With Monitoring templates, you set them once and apply them to multiple targets across your entire enterprise. So it gvies you a faclity to standardise stuff. For instance, you can create one template each for different database environments (e.g Development, Testing and Production). So each time you discover a new databases, instead of going in to database t manually define new metrics for the lot, you simply apply your already created template to them. Another example advantage is that each time your team decides that all production database tablespaces should change from a Critical of 90% to 85%, you simply change the template and reapply instead of doing it one-by-one on each database.
With Notification Rules, you are choosing the targets and the conditions with which you want to receive notifications. For instance, you have set all your Critical and Warning thresholds for say % Tablespace Space Used. When this threshold is reached, you want to be notified using the notification method you have set. Say via email or sms. So you create a notification rule that includes this metric, specify the notification method and indicate which administrators receive that notification.

  • Monitoring Templates and Rules

Can someone clarify the differences or usage of Monitoring Templates versus Rules.
I believe Monotoring Templates are generated by copying the Metrics and Policies of a single specific targets, adnn then applying that template to other similiar targets.
But how do the Public or My Rules affect or work with Templates.

    Hello,
I want to apply the template to a db instance and I would like to see that information on the db instance home page on the Category alerts.
Can't I do that? The templates only work if I define a notification method?

  • Monitoring template and alert noifications,  how ?

I have set up database monitoring template with some metric tresholds for warning/alerting. Also, I applied this to the databases. Now, my question is how will i be notified (say via e-mail) once an alert has generated ? I see notification methods and notification rules, where it has its own metric settings. Do i have to apply notification rules to these databases for notifications. If so, what is the use of monitoring template ? Can i set up notifications via e-mail within the monitoring template ?
    thanks,

In EM12c, go to the 'Enterprise' menu, then 'Job', then 'Library'. There should be an out-of-the-box job called "DISABLE TABLESPACE USED (%) ALERTS FOR UNDO AND TEMP TABLESPACES" that you can run against your database targets, and that job will disable database-generated alerts.
If a previous admin has set up EM12c-generated alerts for undo and temp, then yes, a monitoring template will take care of disabling them. Either remove those alerts from the existing monitoring template and apply them to your targets, or create a new monitoring template based on one database's current settings, remove those warning/critical thresholds for your undo and temp tablespaces, and apply it to your targets.

  • Managing Monitoring Templates Based on Target Properties (not Administration Groups)

I understand how to create administration groups, based on a hierarchy of target properties.  In addition, I've assigned monitoring templates to these various groups with limited success.
But I would like to be able to setup different monitoring templates, metric values, compliance configuration, etc based on the target properties themselves and not just the hierarchy.
For example, lets say I have a hierarchy of administration groups starting with "Cost Center" at the top and "Location" as the next level.  Now, I want to set up some compliance rules based on Operating Systems and want to do this across all my systems, regardless of administration group.  (ie all Solaris 10 machines setup one way, Solaris 11 machines another).
    Can I do this?

does your RCDC info look something like the following?

  • Cannot see CCMS Monitor Templates - System is not configured

I just finished installing SAP Netweaver Trial, and I have been able to login using the SAP* and DDIC accounts.
I can see the standard tree via the SAP client GUI.
I am trying to take a look at the CCMS Monitor Sets, and I can see the standard collection of "Entire System", "Performance Overview", etc. all fine.
However, when I double-click to load any of the monitors, I see nothing inside.
    No sub-trees, nothing.
I enabled "Display error nodes" and see a node that says
"NSP   : System is not configured"
I have tried creating my own user, adding in profiles like SAP_ALL, S_A.System, etc.
I also notice everytime I access the CCMS Monitor Templates, there is an entry in the Syslog:
    Severity: Warning
    Process Type: D0
    Transaction Code: RZ20
    Client: 001
    User: DDIC
    Message ID: BYE
    Description:
Database: Invalid parameter ObjTooLar transferred to database interface
Please let me know if I am missing any components, or if there is something I need to do.
    Thank you.

    Thanks Sunny.
That thread did indeed helped me to resolve the issue.
However, the thread did not really provide clear instructions to complete newbies like me.
For those who also have the same issue, this is what I did:
    1. Execute RZ10 (Edit Profiles) via the SAP client GUI
    2. Click on the menu Utilities - Import profiles - Of active servers
    3. Edit the "Instance Profile" NSP_DVEBMGS00_{Your Computer Name}
Select Extended Maintenance, and select Change
    4. Change the following two parameters:
    alert/MONI_SEGM_SIZE from 0 to 60000000
    rdisp/autoabaptime from 0 to 300
    5. In the SAP MMC, right-click on NSP and select Restart
    6. After restarting, login and you should be able to see the CCMS Monitor Template nodes

  • How to exclude UNDO and temp tablespace using monitoring template

    hi,
as per MOS note id 816920.1 undo and temp tablespace is excluded from monitoring starting version 11G onwards. It says that thresholds will need to be explicitly set if undo and temp needs to be monitored
we have grid 12C implemented now with monitoring templates which sets thresholds for all tablespaces. does it apply that thresholds to undo and temp too?? we are receiving alerts for undo and temp tablespaces and we wish to disable them. We have undo tablespaces with different names in many databases as per naming conventions for that line of business.
How can i exclude undo and temp tablespaces from monitoring using grid 12C monitoring templates. is there a way through templates where i can set thresholds of permanent tablespaces only???

  • Monitoring Template

I created a monitoring template specifying some metric thresholds I need to monitor. Then I selected apply from the options and from the Add button I added a target to the template I created.
How can I check in the future that the particular target is associated with some X monitoring template? I couldn't see any target information saved from the monitoring template.
"Where can I check that the moniting template is holding the below targets?"

    Hi,
Just to add to this, the template apply operation does apply the monitoring settings from the template to the target. However, there is no further association with the template and the target, e.g., if the template is later changed, you will have to manually re-apply the template to the target again.
If you want a real association with a template to a target such that if there is any change in the template, these changes are automatically applied to the target, then in EM12c, this can be done using administration groups and template collections. Check out the chapter on Administration groups in the EM Cloud Control Administrator's Guide 12c.

  • MAI monitoring templates vanished (SolMan 7.1 SP10)

    Hello all,
it seems like almost all of our MAI monitoring templates have vanished in our SolMan 7.1 SP10 system.
I still get the traingles were templates existed, but when expanding on them the won't Show up.
I updated SAP Service Content yesterday and SAP Monitoring Content today to the latest version.
I'm nor sure if this really caused the trouble.
Does any of you ever have experienced something similiar?
    Best Regards,
    Thorsten

    Hello,
the question was answered by SAP Support.
One has to be logged on in the language in which the templates were created / maintained.
I switched from German to English last week, so that's the reason why.

  • Data missing under J2ee monitor templates in RZ20

    Hi,
We are trying to setup Central monitoring from solman, registered ccm4x and ccmsr agents poining to SOLMAN,
The J2EE monitor template does not show data related to "APPLICATINS" "LOG FILES",it is blank  locally ,Is anything else required for getting the data.
Both solman and satellite system are on EHP1

    Hi,
You could try the following SAP note for that:
1081694 - CCMS: Local system missing from "SAP J2EE Monitor Templates
You should also check that you are using the latest SAPCCMSR and also the latest libjmon library.  See the SAP notes:
1453112 - CCMS agent and kernel: patches 2010
    1033491 - CCMS monitoring for AS Java (NetWeaver2004s, 7.00)

    Hi Anil,
    Thanks for your quick response.
Oracle Database Alert should be there by default under Database Alert Monitor right. But i am not able to find the Oracle Monitor Set Itself.
I tried by running the program "RSDBMON0" in SE38. That also doen't help.
Please advise on how to get the Oracle monitor set under Database.
    Thanks

  • Monitoring template for hosts and listeners

I've created a monitoring template through "setup -> monitoring template -> create". Under the "policies" tab I am unable to locate some policies for hosts and listeners such as "Listener.ora Permission" and "Open Ports". However, I can see (under policy rules library) that those policies are applied to all targets by default. How do I add those policies into my monitor template?
I am using 10.2.0.4 OEM grid control repository and agents on Sun Solaris 10.
    Thx.
