Monitoring VO Audio

I'm running a line out of my mixer into the Mic in on the mac. How can I monitor this audio in real-time? On the DV out side, I am getting timeline audio plus the stand-by beeps but no VO while recording.
Natually, after recording the VO, I can hear it fine in the timeline. I tried using system audio to hear the VO live, but still no go.
Audio system is wired as follows in case you need to know.
VO mic is being fed off an AUX off the mixer into a leveler, output of the leveler is to Mic Input on the mac.
DV firewire output is to a DSR 45. Audio from that is being fed to the headphones in the VO booth along with the video (VOing a sporting event).

I run a pair of headphones off the mixer when I do VO. You don't want to hear it on speakers, because then it will re-feed to the microphone...

  • No video in monitor, but, audio plays when playing timeline CS5.5.1

In one sequence only, no video plays in monitor, but, audio is heard. What have I done ?
The same H.264 mov clips when set in new sequence plays ok ?

    Thanks Ann & Glenn,
I accidentally hit Toggle Track Output "EYE" Key and, disabled the monitor, to the left of the Opacity handle, in 6 years on other Premiere Pro I have never done that , the darkened display did not help, even Automate to Sequence seemed to disappear in CS5.5.1. But, all is now well thanks to you both it gave me the clue.

  • Hi there, can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac Mini? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? Thanks in advance, Grtz T.

    Hi there,
Can anyone tell me how to make make Garageband ignore HDMI as an audio output-device on a 2013 Mac mini i7 using an Apogee jam as an input for bass and a Behringer USB DAC with RCA audio output? Now it keeps on prompting me: Do you want want to use the HDMI device (monitor without audio) for audio output? I'm also suffering massive audio lag issues with the Apogee jam after waking the mini from sleepmode, wich pretty much renders it useless.
    Thanks in advance,
    Grtz T.

I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.

I am having trouble playing MFX files in Premiere Pro CC. The audio is out of synch. Is there a way to monitor the audio correctly?
    Many thanks

Chances are the pinnacle is producing .avi files or MPEFG1/2 streams - iTunes may know how to decode the audio but not the video. Download Handbrake and try running the Pinnacle files through it and adding to iTunes - use Universal format unless you have a specific device in mind.
    Keep copies of the originals.
Another option might be to try to install Perian.  Can't remember if the Apple MPEG2 plugin allows MPEG2 to be played in iTunes.

  • How can we monitor the audio after the cleanup process before we actually record the trans

I have the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS board and I am using it to transfer vinyl records to make CDs. Before my upgrading of Creative Media Source 2 to Creative Media Source 5, I was able to monitor the audio after the cleanup prior to the transfering process. Now I can only monitor the sound at the line input point and not after the cleanup process. Is there any way that we can do that?Vinylrecord

Assuming you mean Actions when you say "Batches", use this menu...
    1.  Click on the name of the actions set you wish to save.
    2.  Click the fly-out menu icon at the upper-right corner.
    3.  Save Actions, put them someplace on your hard drive other than in the Photoshop installation area.

  • How do I monitor encoded audio?

We are producing a switched webcast with camera audio and video coming out of our ATEM Switcher via HDMI into the MacPro via a BlackMagic Intensity Pro.  Both audio and video are coming through into our MacPro and getting encoded in FMLE and then spit out to Justin.tv.  The feed looked great and we were able to see that on our monitor, however it did not sound great and we were not able to figure that out until it viewed on Justin.tv live.  I plugged in headset and was unable to monitor the audio.
Is there anyway to monitor the encoded audio?

  • NEED TO MONITOR DTS AUDIO

HELLO EVERYONE I NEED TO MONITOR DTS AUDIO FROM DVD STUDIO PRO AND I NEED A DIGITAL OUTPUT TO DO IT THE QUESTION ID CAN I USE THE DIGIDESIGN MBOX INTERFACE TO DO SO....ANY IDEAS PLEASE

    Hi
First, we Need to clarify what do you want.
    1) You want to Monitor a Windows Event with the severity "Error" (there is no Critical for Windows Events, only Error").
    2) You want to create an Event in SCOM. I think you if you talk about "Event" in SCOM you mean actually an Alert.
There is no direct way like a tool/powershell script  of only creating an Alert in SCOM only if you are going to use the SCOM SDK
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh329086.aspx or using the Orchestrator Create Alert activity.
If you want to create a SCOM alert depending on a Windows Event you either can create a rule
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff730470.aspx or a Monitor
    http://jimmoldenhauer.blogspot.ch/2013/03/scom-2012-how-to-generate-alerts-from.html

is it possible im watching a movie on one and wated to answer factime call or watch youtube on my mbp and just screamed out my tv speakers.....i want fual monitoring but separate audio any help?

I know on mackbooks I've seen firewire used as an input for a Weiss Dac if you're into two channel audio.  Do any reiceivers take firewire as an input for hometheater?  Has anyone tested Firewire outputs on their W series?  I'm told that firewire is sometimes preferable to USB, I'm not sure why this would be, can USB support passthrough of DTS encoded signals?
In the case that firewire works and you Do not have a firewire source, maybe something like this would be of value  It converts firewire to digital coaxial s/pdif and allows passthrough of DTS and AC3.
    http://www.m-audio.com/images/global/manuals/FireWire-Audiophile_Manual.pdf
As I'm into audio the critical thing here (and what you're paying for when you purchase blue-ray, is maintaining the digital information from the disk in an unconverted form.  You want a direct bit pass through, and you want as little jitter introduced to the signal as possible.  You most certainly don't want the sound card getting in the way, Digtital to Analog converting and then reverse packaging it up and putting it out over the soundcard digital out.  My problem is I'm not familiar enough with computer audio to know how exactly the sounds is transmitted from your blue ray drive to the digital interface you've chosen.
Anyone know why USB digital out would not be a prefered method?

  • IDS/IPS signatures to monitor streaming audio/video applications

    Hi folks,
Can someone advise on the names or signatures that could be successfully used to monitor the usage of streaming applications on the network. The plan is to feed them to MARS and then create reports on streaming applications utilization to use it later for creation a security policy preventing bandwidth stealing.
Perhaps any suggestions on how to create a custom signature to monitor audio and video streams would be appreciated.
    Eugene

    Hi Blayne,
I really appreciate your answers and time you spent. I wish this would be helpful not to me only. I'm still confused by all the intrinsic details of how to make a good custom signature. Is there any good guide? May be TAC has its internal guide on how to troubleshoot and create custom signatures based on regex and content type. I'm looking at the TCP packets of the capture made while watching youtube video and this is what comes from the server:

  • Black in Monitor / No Audio

Despite having clips in the timeline, my monitor shows only black on each clip and I hear no audio. How do I fix this?

    Spikeroo
    Not enough details there.
What version of Premiere Elements do you have and on what computer operating system is it running one.
The usual drill is "Do you have the latest version of your video card driver according to the web site of the manufacturer of that video card?
Are you getting display card error messages?
If you have Premiere Elements 10 and NVIDIA video card, you might be looking to roll back the driver version as per the latest epidemic of Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA video card driver issues.
On the other hand, your issue might go to the properties of your source media. In that case, answers would be needed for:
What are the properties of your source media? Where did the footage come from? Video compression, audio compression, frame size, frame rate, file extension, interlaced or progressive, etc.
    What is your project preset?
What do you computer resources look like?
Looking forward to your follow up to sort through the details of your issue.
    Thanks.

  • No video playing in canvas or on monitor but audio is fine

I was setting chapters markers on the timeline for DVD export and somehow hit the wrong key so when I play the video on the timeline, the audio is fine and is heard on my monitor but the video doesn't appear in the canvas (black only showing) and shows only the first frame of the particular clip on my monitor. I checked video external settings and it is set to 'all frames'.
Any ideas how I screwed this up. It's in the settings as I went back to an autosaved version from 5 minutes previous and the same problem.
    thanks for any assistance.

    The key, btw, is w.

  • Input Monitoring, and Audio Objects- help?

    Hi!
    First part:
Input Monitoring. I am used to Input Monitoring (live signal) overriding printed material (regions). I thought that if I had Auto Input Monitoring disabled, and if I would engage Input Monitoring on an Audio Track, ONLY the Live input would pass; any regions on the track would not sound...put simply, engage Input Monitor flicks a switch from regions to Live Input. But, it does not. The ONLY ways I have found to have JUST the live signal is to mute all regions, or actually record on the track. How SHOULD it work?
    Audio Objects and Arrange tracks:
If I have 3 audio tracks in the Arrange window, and I assign them all to say, Audio Object 1; why do the Arrange window audio tracks not operate independently? If I solo one, all three solo. If I mute one, they all do. Even worse, if I Rec enable one, all three do!
I thought that Arrange window Audio tracks were independent, and operated as such. Assign tracks to multiple Audio Objects, or to the same, it did not matter. Part of the brilliance of it (I thought, initially) was how you could have different "versions" of a track feeding a single Object, and then priority would determine what actually plays back; but that is not how it works? Part of my delusion, it seems, was that when you mute or solo a track in the Arrange, there is a pause, and if I then do so in the Mixer it is much, much faster, which is due to the Arrange tracks being different...or not? Seems the answer to that incurs a penalty in one case, but not another, and that makes NO sense. Where did I go wrong?
Sorry for the wicked long post, but I see these both as related, and I would love to know why this stuff looks incredibly flexable and powerful on paper, but in practice, it is nothing short of frustrating, with very little benefit over other apps...maybe worse than some other apps...

    Hi!
Thx for the reply! I seem to be find the odd questions...
    Sampleconstruct wrote:
Click on the track with the regions you want to solo/mute->all regions in that track get selected->use the keycommands for Solo (S by default) and Mute (M by default). Then only the highlighted regions in that track will play/mute
That works well, and I could handle using it as a workflow. But, when one wants to retain individual mute states of specific regions on that track, this would alter that when unmuting. The tip below would be a viable alternative, but...
    Sampleconstruct wrote:
Also have you tried the two different modes for Solo/Mute which can be set in Logic Audio Prefs? "CPU save mode" makes the tracks assigned to the same Audio object independent from each other - "Fast"-mode makes them all dependent, so try CPU save mode.
That I did not realize. However, if I rec or input enable, no matter what ALL Arrange tracks assigned to the same Audio Object rec/input enable. Any way to stop that that? Or is that just an "idiot-synchrocy" of Logic 8? (coulda sworn 7 did not do that?) Take recording is cool, but sometimes I might want to have alternates on a seperate track. It seems to defy the reasoning behind addressing Audio Objects...

  • AE CC loses connection with second monitor and audio mixer (BLACKMAGIC) when switching to desktop

    specifications:
    Mac OsX 10.7.5
AE cc (part of creative cloud, up-to-date) NOT TRIAL VERSION
software for connecting monitor and adui mix panel: Blackmagic Desktop Video 10.0
second monitor: Sony Trimaster EL PVM 2541
audio mix panel: Behringer Xenyx x1204USB audio mixer
Blackmagic connects the Sony screen + Behringer Xenyx x1204USB audio mixer to the mac computer.
    the problem:
When working in after effects, we link the program to show the video preview on the second screen (the sony one)
While the work area is still visible on the Mac screen.
The audio is also regulated through Blackmagic so we can mix on the xenyx mix panel.
Everything works fine as long as we stay in after effects.
If, for a brief moment, even a second, we swhitch to the desktop, or an other program (internet, acrobat reader, etc) After effects looses the connection to Blackmagic (forgets it exists). So we suddenly have no audio, or no longer a seperate video preview image.
The option to select Blackmagic in the dropdown menu is also gone.
If we restart After effects though, it's connected again.
    Any ideas?
I added two screenshots to clarify.
The screenshots is when it does work, and after effects still recognizes blackmagic.
    Cheers,
    Andreas

When this happens, open Activity Monitor. Is Adobe QT32 Server running? That is required for QuickTime video preview. If it is not running, this is the troubleshooting you want to do:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2011/02/troubleshooting-quicktime-errors-with-after-ef fects.html
In the next update to After Effects CC, the old QuickTime video preview (on Mac; DirectShow video preview on Windows) is being replaced by Mercury Transmit:

  • Monitoring the audio output waveform.

    Hi,
The original audio waveform is visible in the timeline and in the source monitor.  But is there anyway to see the waveform after you have applied effects to it?
    Thanks.

I see.  I've just tried rendering the audio but that doesn't make any difference to the waveform.  So maybe some sort of preview could do with being added?

  • Source Monitor - Huge audio issue

At first I thought I was going crazy... I was getting all audio on timeline but only one track in the source monitor.
Then found out that this was only the case with 2 track mono clips.
Why does the source monitor play back all tracks of a stereo clip but only track one of a 2 track mono clip?
I've got a stack of clips from a shoot which are interviews.... Question mic on track 2 Answer mic on track 1
Anyone got any idea how I utilise the source monitor if I can't hear audio.
I dont want to modify all clips to stereo in the bin and I certainly don't want to select different tracks each time via the display mode drop down.
Looks like I'll just be editing straight into the timeline.
    What a miss from adobe!

Why does the source monitor play back all tracks of a stereo clip but only track one of a 2 track mono clip?
Well, strictly speaking, Premiere isn't playing back all tracks of a stereo clip and only one track of a multi-mono clip, but rather, Premiere is playing back the first audio track of a clip, regardless of the channel mapping. To Premiere, a media clip with a stereo track has one audio track (not two), so that's why you hear both channels in that case.
But, to the crux of your question and lament: I agree. It's a pain, particularly when dealing with footage like P2 MXF that contains 2 or 4 mono tracks. Due to the way I shoot, I usually have my primary audio on track 2, so using a usual Source/Program editing practice is difficult. Sounds like your workflow and expectation is the same.
So until we get a way to select the audio track to be monitored from the Composite Video view (feature request: Adobe Feature Request/Bug Report Form), the workaround is to work in a sequence, or to switch to Audio view mode and then select the track you want to hear. There is a keyboard shortcut you can set to bring up the Audio view (I have that set to F4 and Composite Video to F3), but sadly, none exists to switch the monitor track. The track you select in Audio view is persistent in Composite Video view, but unfortunately, that setting/selection is not remember from clip to clip.
I've lamented this myself, but hadn't gotten around to putting together a solid feature request; I think I'll do that now, and hope you will too.
EDIT: sorry, missed you'd already said you don't want to toggle tracks. So... yeah... that's all there is...
