Monitoring with Blackmagic hardware

I use a Blackmagic Decklink SDI in Adobe Premiere, but it doesn't show up in Encore, even though the video output preferences window looks very similiar.  How do you preview on a broadcast monitor?

According to this Adobe blog, Blackmagic hardware is supposed to work with Mercury Transmit in most Adobe apps, including Encore.

Not working for me. I've tried reinstalling Desktop Video.

  • Best rgb and gamma settings for external monitor with mountain lion

    Hi,
I'm using an LG LED 22 inch monitor with my MBP mid 2010 via minidisplay to hdmi. on OS X side the settings have been default. On the LED side the settings , if set to preset RGB it tends to fade the whites a lot. when i set to user definied and let the preset rgb be at it is, the colors are quote decent. currently they are on R 50, G 58 and B 59 and Gamma 1. Which is the best RGB and Gamma value for OS X Mountain Lion?

    Welcome to the forum.
First off, you need to go and buy a hardware monitor calibrator, such as an OptixXR or similar. This will build a custom monitor profile for your specific screen. Without this starting point you can forget ANY attempt at accurate colour matching.
Never (and I mean never) use a working space such as sRGB or Adobe98 as your monitor profile, that's not what they are designed for. Working spaces control what colours are possible in the image, monitor profiles control how those colours are shown on screen. Aperture uses it's own working space so you don't have to worry about that too much.
To answer the rest far too briefly, I'd suggest setting the proofing profile to sRGB and of course use sRGB for the export preset. The gamma setting you will have to adjust depending on how dark the Lightjet prints look compared to your screen. You will have to do test-strips to start with.
Your images looking crap on flickr on Windows machines is partly because Windows web browsers generally do NO colour correction, and only partly to do with the different gamma.

  • When connected to lg monitor with hdmi cable i get no sound

when connected to lg monitor with hdmi cable i get no sound

The issue here is that HDMI cables, as the name indicates, carry audio signals to the monitor. Therefore if the monitor has no built in speakers then there will be no sound. If you have external speakers you can plug them into the audio out slot on the back of the monitor and the problem will be solved.
However, if the screen does have built in speakers you need to go Control Panel>Hardware and Sound>Manage Audio Devices and set either your headphone jack or the screen to be the default device. And then you ca pick which device the sound will play from. Either yourlaptop speakers or whateer speakers are plugged into the laptop or the Monitor and whatever speakers are plugged into the monitor

  • M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 monitors with imac optical digital out

I'm looking to purchase these monitors for my imac or ones very similar to them and was wondering how I go about hooking them up to the imac. I've read that I would have to use a mini-TOSLink cable to use the optical digital out, but how do I go from that to the RCA on the back of the monitors? Do they make a mini-TOSLink cable to RCA cable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, the AV 40 inputs are line-level analog RCA; they 'don't understand' digital audio,
and the conversion requires more than a cable -- you'd need an D-to-A converter.
You could run an analog signal to the monitors with just a cheap miniplug-to-RCA
(analog) adaptor from Radio Shack; but if you want to use the iMac's digital output,
you'll need some sort of external digital-to-analog conversion hardware.
I don't know of any inexpensive stand-alone TOSLINK-to-analog converters, but
there are many USB-to-audio products that would allow you to feed digital audio
from the iMac to the AV 40's -- but through a USB port, rather than TOSLINK.
Search for "USB audio" on amazon.com and/or newegg.com.

  • Changing to a new monitor with Windows XP

My desktop is a COMPAQ Presario 2029 with a NVidia GeForce 7500LE graphics card, currently running XP SP3. Although in due course I intend to upgrade it to Windows 7 or 8.1, or replace the hardware altogether with a new Windows 8.1 PC, that will not be some time yet.
In the meantime, I am thinking of replacing my current monitor with a wide-screen HP Pavilion 22xi or 23xi. Am I likely to encounter any problems trying to run this on the existing hardware and/or XP ?
    Thanks!

I still think it is not problem.  HERE is the driver for the monitor.  It will pobably work just fine without it, but nonetheless there it is.

  • Hi! After Effects CC 2014 do not work with Blackmagic Intensity Pro.

After Effects CC, Premiere Pro CC 2014, Photoshop CC 2014 work correct with Blackmagic Intensity Pro.

Uninstall the Blackmagic drivers and install the latest version.
If that doesn't help, make sure you are using a comp size that matches a frame format supported by the Blackmagic card.

  • I'm using a viewsonic 19" LCD monitor with a powermac 7100/66.  The only resolution available in the monitor control panel is 640x480.  The viewsonic gives me a message to use 1440x900.  The mac specs state it's capable of 1152x870 @ 8 bit. Help!

I'm using a viewsonic 19" LCD monitor with a powermac 7100/66 running Mac OS 7.6.1.  The only resolution available in the monitor control panel is 640x480.  The viewsonic gives me a message to use 1440x900.  The mac specs state it's capable of 1152x870 @ 8 bit.  How can I get a higher resolution?

For unsupported resolutions, one may need to see if there are any software
solutions; maybe the minimum specs of the display are not met by an 8-bit
color specification of the video card in the computer.
Does the display support two kinds of connections, another one, plus VGA?
Could be the display needs some other support for it to work. Drivers?
VRAM? A different control panel and (third-party) software?
The limits may vary due to the VRAM on the card. With enough there, and
with a VGA connection (or supported converter to/from older Mac DB-15)
and the video graphics card with minimal supported specs will show that.
Been several years since I've run any PowerMac, & only used a variety of
Apple CRT color displays with them. Most times, they were very adequate.
A wider array of original choices appeared in the Displays control panel...
So I suspect the lack of video support in the graphics card or VRAM, to be
a player in this resolution limit you see in the control panel. A later CPU/GPU
and better hardware, later Mac OS, offered greater support for newer driver
    along with better results.
There may not be a workable upgrade to a different graphic video card for
that old a vintage computer; or if there was one, to locate that now may be
a next-to-impossible mission. Was there any hints in the web site for older
Macs, the LowEndMac site, or others? Some are no longer current sites.
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • No hdmi devices detected on HD TV with blackmagic intensity card

Im on my Macpro - 2x3 GHz Qaud-Core Intel Xeon with 8GB ram OS 10.5.8
I have installed a Blackmagic Intensity PCI card and using the HMDI connection to my Sony Bravia 21 inch HD TV so i can monitor HD footage for FCP 7 . When i=I go to HDMI setup on the TV I get the message "no hdmi devices detected" with blackmagic intensity card.
Anyone have any ideas or come across this before?

Make sure FCP is running and that you have chosen View menu > External Video > All Frames and the appropriate Blackmagic Intensity preset from the View menu > Video Playback presets.

  • FMLE and 50fps with BlackMagic devices

FMLE seems to be missing the possibility for 50fps There is a 60, 59.94, 30...fps setting - no 50 fps.
BM settings (fx DeskLinDuo or Intensity Shuttle) allow me to choose 720p50 - but it is reset to 59.94 every time.
    25fps doesn't work either.
Must be a missing setting in FMLE. Can't find it with a webcam either.
    How can I fix that?
    Thank You
    Frank

Seems, FMLE doesnot support Europe 50fps standart at all. Neither 1080i/50 (work when capturing 25fps) nor 720p/50. I'm using Canon XHG1 cameras, which can produce only 1080i/50 fps and JVCs ProHD 251 whis are 720p/50.
The solution is to use osprey 700 HD capture card, which can hardware reencode to desireable screen size and bitrate (I'm able to stream 720p/50 feed to 720p/25 encoded stream). But they are too expensive.
With DeckLink SDI capture cards I can only stream 1080i/50 feed capturing 1080i/25 fps (somehow, this encoding preset works). But I have to software deinterlace, so picture quality degrades.
PS: When I'm using Canon XHG1s, I want to cross convert 1080i/50 feed with blackmagic updowncross mini converter to more affordable 720p/50 feed, which have no deinterlace nightmare.. But this stream I can't capture and stream.
There is no problems with "NTSC" cameras - 60/30 fps.

    W.W.

    W.W.,
I do not want to jack your post, just was intrigued by the adapter I found while searching sites for your adapter. Grant's reply caused me to search a little further. Here is a useful site for more information on what we are wondering about.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KVM_switch
If you really want to go high tech,
    http://www.blackbox.com/Catalog/Category.aspx?cid=537
    Grant,
I just struck me odd that the KVM would not have the adapter built-in. I would love to learn enough about monitors to hot wire an adapter like that. Seems to provide a hardware -not electronic- way to overcome what the wikipedia article discusses:
"A limitation with physical switches is that any computer not currently selected by the KVM switch does not 'see' a keyboard or mouse connected to it. In normal operation this is not a problem but while the machine is booting up it will attempt to detect its keyboard and mouse and either fail to boot or boot with an unwanted (e.g. mouseless) configuration if they are not detected. Thus passive KVM switches are unsuitable for controlling machines which may reboot automatically e.g. after a power failure. Most active electronic KVM devices provide peripheral emulation, sending signals to the computers that are not currently selected to simulate a keyboard, mouse and monitor being connected. These are used to control machines which may reboot in unattended operation. Peripheral emulation services embedded in the hardware also provides continuous support where computers require constant communication with the peripherals."
    Intriguing. Thanx. Jim

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.
