Have you tried the Software Monitoring button?
_Monitoring With Effect Plug-ins_
The Software Monitoring function allows you to hear incoming audio through effects plug-ins inserted into an armed audio channel. Audio inputs must be assigned on these record-enabled tracks for software monitoring functionality. You can also use the Input Monitoring buttons to monitor audio tracks that are not armed. Simply enable the Input Monitoring button on a channel strip. This works when Logic Pro is stopped or playing.
Software monitoring is especially handy in Logic Pro setups without an external mixer, and is useful during an overdub session, for example. For further information, see “Using Software Monitoring” on page 356 of the Logic Pro 8 User Manual.

There really isn't any workaround to the cost. You can't get the parts needed to fix it yourself. Only Apple has those parts and they do not sell them to end users.
Sure you could take it apart and clean everything and the screen might start working again but then it might not. Depending on what cause it to stop working in the first place. Like something got shorted out.

    What have you bought?
What model Mac are you running?
What input sources are available on the display you are connecting it to?

    QUESTIN #2
Can I upgrade my hard drive to a 2tb with the proper PCI card and cable ?

#1, tough to tell, is it using the VGA or DVI output?
#2, yes, if you can find a Mac compatible card.

  • When I upgraded my Mac Pro HDs I lost the capcity for 2 monitors.  One monitor works fine but the second one is not "seen" by the Mac Pro.  Help?

My MacPro is a dual quad core 2.8 intell processor system with 6 gig of RAM and 4 HDs.  I recently upgraded the HDs from 500 gig each to 2 TB each.  I did that by copying each existing hard drive to a new hard drive and then inserting the new hard drive where the copied drive had been.  I followed all of the instructions for the OX system that came after copying and replacing the drive with the OX on it.  Unfortunately now I can no longer use the 2 monitors that I used to use on the system.  One monitor works fine, the second on is not found by the OX system and simply won't respond or receive a signal from the computer.  Any ideas?

Have you tried a NVRAM / PRAM reset?
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • Mini DVI to DVI monitor working

I have a Black MacBook running 10.7.3. I have ta Bookendz and a mini DVI to DVI aadpater and two differnet DVI cables. I have tried all combinations and can not get my LG monitor to display anything, it just goes into power saving mode. My MacBook sees the external monitor in the display prefernces, and even has the right resolution set. When I first had the monitor it wouldn't work through and I was going to send it back, but it just started working.
The monitor works fine when plugged into a Mac Mini, or through the HDMI and VGA ports when plugged into my MacBook. Any help greatly appreciated.

The mini-DVD to DVI adapter doesn't pass through the analog video signals needed for VGA, so won't work with a DVI to VGA adapter. All the control signals are there, so the display is recognized, but there will be no picture.
They could have used a DVI-D connector on the adapter, instead of DVD-I, so the DVI to VGA adapter wouldn't even plug in, but then it couldn't be used with some non-Apple LCDs, that use DVD-I connecters.

  • Monitor works for one second, then blank

I have been reading many of the post people have put down about monitors and mac mini's, however can't find anyone with my problem.
I bought a mac mini and a cheap monitor from PC world, a Xerox 17" TFT, thinking that it would work fine. However when I connected them up using the DVI cable, at start up the monitor works for a second then blank. Turning it off and back on again brings the image back but again for just a second. This is annoying in that the mac mini is still in its welcome first run making it difficult to get beyond it to mess around with the monitor settings given a window of a second each time.
There was an adaptor that came with the monitor, but to use that I would have to plug that adaptor into the macs DVI adaptor as well, something I tryed but no luck, in fact no image at all.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I've had this problem too, resetting the PMU and PRAM usually helps:

  • My external monitor works but I can't get my screen to work on my power book anymore

Can not get my screen on power book G4 to work but my external monitor works fine. Did I press something and turn it off?

The both screens always worked fine but now the power book doesn't show anything on the screen.  I didn't drop it or even move it.  Where is the brightness button?  Could I have hit it by mistake?
Thanks so much for your help.
F2 is the up-brightness button, F1 is the down-brightness button, usually, on PowerBooks.  If for some reason the F1 button got held down for a couple of seconds, the display would go completely dark.
That being said, if the backlight does not come up (easily determined by seeing if the Apple outline on the cover is lit up) then the most likely suspect would be the inverter board, or the connection to the inverter board.  If this is a Titanium PG G4, the inverter board is easy and relatively inexpensive to replace.  For the Aluminum models, I don't know if that is quite so true.

  • Monitor worked on 10.4.5, then updated 10.4.8 now doesnt

Basiclly the subject tells it all.
I just bought my MB Pro today and my external Viewsonic monitor worked before I did the updates. Now it won't.
Also, now one of my Lacie USB 2 hard drives, that worked before the update, doesnt work. the light just keeps blinking.
    help please

I connected my old CRT Apple Studio display today and through the Apple display converted my MBP recognizes it.
When my DVI monitor is connected it doesn't recognize.
I know there isn't a problem with my DVI monitor, because I just used it on another machine.
My question is, do they make an Apple converter that will let me connect my DVI monitor to it... perhaps that would fix my problem? I'm not very techincal, so I may be completely wrong. Just thinking out loud.

No, it does not.  It transfers purchases from the iDevice to the computer.  The computer must be authorized for the Apple ID that the content was acquired with.

Are they selected to sync?  Is Manually Manage content on the device selected?

What does that have to do with syncing content to the device?  FYI, nothing.

    Hello candymerna,
At this point I would recommeng resetting the device if if will not turn on.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
From: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
              http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If it does turn on, but will not charge then take a look at this part of the article iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting found http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
    Power/Battery
Battery does not charge from the USB power adapter
Important: Only original iPhone can be charged from a FireWire-based power source. If iPhone is connected to a computer that's turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the battery may drain.
Verify that the outlet being used is working.
Try another USB power adapter if available.
If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.
Also refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Charging the battery.
If it is charging, but not recognized in iTunes take a look at one of these articles depending on your Operating System.

    Hi,
the settings are gone, i guess. But even worse, I cannot get the iPad2 to play Full HD thru the Apple digital AV adaptor using apps that support  (and advertise this), like AVPlayer HD. This definiteley used to work before one of the last iOS upgrades. (I am now at 5.1.1).
