Monitors recognized by MacPro yet no display

I purchased 2 Hanns G HK241DPB monitors for my Mac Pro.  I hooked them up and had no display from either one.
So I hooked up my older Samsung monitor and one of the new monitors as a 2nd monitor.
The new monitor is recognized when I click 'Check Display' yet I get no picture from it.  I tried calibrating it, selecting another profile.  Nothing works.
I'm using the DVI connection.  I called the manufacturer and they said the monitor should work fine with a Mac.

Thanks for the suggestions.  Much appreciated.
After trying everything mentioned (and more) I just couldn't get these monitors to display.
I picked up a couple of AOC monitors at Best Buy.  While they are working, I'm now tracking down an annoying problem where the 2nd monitor only works at a lower resolution.  Argh!  This dual monitor setup is so frustrating.

  • External vga, monitor recognized, still no display

    I have a L R60 9461-DXG, with Win7 (32bit) running very fine.
Now trying to use an external monitor (L171p) but nothing works.
While in boot and in combination with Fn+F7 the display doesn't come up (staying in power saving mode).
In Win7 the external connected monitor is recognized and displayed as a L171p, enabling the monitor is possible but again the display doesn't come up.
Is this a driver error or could there be a hardware malfunction?
Installing (Vista) Ati Mobility Radeon X1400 drivers from the L site didn't solve the problem.
    Please help.

Not necessarily, but the probability of receiving a solution from other members, who are also using a similar setup, is most likely better here.

  • Using DVI and VGA monitor simultaneously on MacPro

using DVI and VGA monitor simultaneously on MacPro!
2008 MacPro - running the latest Yosemite
for the last few years, I've had two monitors attached - both DVI monitors in the DVI port.
today, one of the two monitors died on me!  Just wouldn't turn on.
As it happens, I also have an older VGA monitor.  So, this evening I bought a VGA-to-DVI adaptor.
when I plugged it in, something buggy happened ... the image was fine at the first, but then for a while, the active application started flashing off & on, it flashed between the image of the APP and a white panel... just the active APP.  the background apps looked fine.
now it seems to have stopped .. .but I fear it may come back?
no idea what may be causing it!  is it NOT a good idea to use DVI and VGA monitors simultaneously on a 2008 MacPro?
Hope it doesn't come back.  right now I'm in safe start-up mode, I'll see what happens when I run normal start-up mode tom'w morning.
thanks for any feedback / insight!

minor update: I went back to the DVI monitor, using another 12V AC cable, and it seemed to work, but then that one just started flickering (after being on for an hour or so...) the flickering stopped after a few minutes, but something tells me that I'm not out of the woods yet...

  • Good Secondary Monitor to go with 24 Cinema Display

I am using a 24 inch cinema display as my main monitor, I also have a Dell Ultrasharp 20 incher on the side. I want to get another 24 inch monitor so I have matching monitors, but I don't wanna spend another grand on another apple monitor.
What would be a good monitor to go with my 24' display. I noticed a lot of them are not as bright as the Apple, does anyone know one that is good quality (doesn't have to be as good as the cinema display. My budget is around 300-450.

I've been researching the same thing. I don't know your primary purpose for a monitor, but I'm looking for one I can use for photo editing and print design--and the high end monitors are far out of my unemployed budget...So if you're looking for a monitor for primarily photo editing vs. gaming, here's what I've figured out so far: basically, be very leary of monitors with super-low response times (which are better for gaming (and possibly movie editing?). From my understanding they achieve this at the expense of color reproduction. The ones to look for for photo editing use S-IPS panels. A few websites warn that some brands (like Dell) might vary the type based on production run. I'll also get either huey, colormunki, or spyder. Haven't had a chance to research those yet.
One I'm looking into is by HP...it's ugly, but it's the least expensive IPS monitor I can find, and it's currently about $530. But I also believe that if a product is any good, the manufacturer will stand by it for 3 years...without charging additional money. (AHEM! I clearly make an exception to this rule, but I don't like it!)

  • Monitor recognized as TV?!

    Hello,
I am using an LG L246WHX monitor and wondering wether this is normal that system recognizes the monitor as a TV and confirms that no display is connected?
I did not install any driver, etc, just plugged in via the DVI/HDMI connector included with the monitor.
    Screenshot of system profiler below:
    thank you!

Only problem with monitor is some strange gamma, some transitions look bit crappy but maybe this is due to calibration. For example the bottom part of the official leopard login screen seems awful. after login normal pictures are displayed correctly, but i was wondering this has anything to do with being recognized as a TV.
the display is connected to the miniDVI port with the miniDVI-DVI+HDMI adapter.

  • Can I use two HP Pavillion 23bw monitors with my MBP with Retina Display?

Can I use two HP Pavillion 23bw monitors with my MBP with Retina Display with good video quality? I just purchased them and am already reading about issues with non-Apple External Monitors being used with MBP with Retina.  Plus I just assumed it given the power of the video card, but I can turn off the display to my MBP and extend the two HP monitors correct? I do realize they won't have the picture quality of the retina display but I would hope they look reasonable with 1080p
New to the Support Community so thanks in advance for any help.

This is an update on the question about the use of the Dell P2415Q 4K monitor with MacBook Pro 13" and 15" w/ Nvidia graphics card installed. The monitor works very well with both systems and is automatically identified when connected. The 13" machine with Iris Graphics defaults to 2560 x 1440 at 60hz. This was very workable, matching the Apple Thunderbolt Display for resolution. I was not able to set the display for full 4K at 3840 x 2160, even at 30hz. Just not enough horsepower with the basic Intel CPU with Iris Graphics. But make no mistake, the setup works well and the screen looks great.
The 15" with Iris Pro Graphics and the Nvidia GeForce GT 575M discrete graphics card also recognized the display and drove it at full 4K, 3840 x 2160, 60hz with no problems. Running in clamshell mode required a bit of fine tuning with the Apple display settings. But nothing major.
Due to a relatively small workstation, I selected the 24" version of the Dell monitor. If you are looking for a relatively large monitor with near "retina" resolution, the P2415Q is a perfect pairing for the MacBook Pro - and a terrific bargain. I paid $530 on the Dell website.

    Can't help you there...
I have a MacBook Pro 15" with the anti-glare display which is great for out an about where you have little control over the lighting or what is behind you.  In my study, where I can control the lighting to keep the reflection and glare to a minium I use a Apple Thunderbolt display.

These "streaks" appear to be area of too high frequency scanning; they can be cleared by scrolling up and/or down.

hello, maybe that's an issue with hardware acceleration - please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu [[Image:New Fx Menu]] > options > advanced > general''.

Light alcohol cleaners, like what you use for camers lenses, works.  Just do not have the soft cloth cleaning pad dripping wet ... dripping wet will allow fluid to get onto internal components.

Apply Store did full hardware diagnostic and all is fine. Did clean wipe from Mavrick back to Mountain Lion but problem remains. Apple Store can do no more.

I did some more digging, it appears to be a backlight problem only. I can see the screen very dimly if I use a bright flashlight in a very dark room. It also seems to run ok if the brightness is turned down a LOT.
So I'm thinking this is a LED driver board issue or the display itself. I'll open it up and check the connection between the two and see if I can get any more clues. At least I can use it somewhat now by dimming the display significantly...

  • My Thunderbolt-port equipped 15" Macbook Pro (Early 2011) works with other monitors but not with my Thunderbolt Display.

I just got a thunderbolt monitor and excitedly, I plugged my early 2011 thunderbolt port equipped 15" Macbook Pro (running 10.8.2) into it and... no image on the monitor.
Ok, so I know that the TB display works because I plugged a mid-2012 13" Macbook Pro into it (running 10.7.5) and it works perfectly. In fact, I'm using it to type this message right now.
    Other details:
    - in both the displays preference pane and about this mac/system info, the 15" mbp recognizes the display, yet... no picture either clamshell open or closed. restarted with it plugged in and not plugged in, no difference. also? sound comes through the monitor.
    - ALSO, i plugged in a mini displayport monitor into the 15" port, and it displayed fine, so the port seems to be doing something.
    see my conundrum?

It should just work - if it's not working with your 2011 model (works just fine with my 15" late 2011, right out of the box) I would get in touch with AppleCare as soon as possible and see what the senior techs may have to say...
