Monitors with Digital Inputs

What monitors are available that accept the Toslink input directly? Do the keyboard and on-screen volume controls still work with this arrangement?

I believe Tannoy make a set of the Elipse range of speaker with digital inputs as well. I have no idea why you would want to do this though. I suspect the gains in quality would be tiny if anything at all. You'd be better to spend more money on something less techy and get something that really sounds great!

I'm interested to purchase a bose solo tv speaker together with a bluetooth adapter so that i can play music from my laptop using the bose speakers. Do you have any bluetooth adapters that I can plug into the digital input of the bose speakers instead of the RCA input so that I can enjoy better sound quality?

Rocketfish makes one with digital but there are issues with it's range, Belkin and Harmon Kardon make them, but they're analog only. All of them are in the same $50.00 price range.
But the connectivity doesn't matter, you will not be able to tell the difference in audio fidelity between analog or digital using bluetooth.
Bluetooth simply doesn't have the bandwidth to carry any type of audio that needs a higher bandwidth digital connection. Digital Stereo maxes out at 1.41 Mbps, Bluetooth A2DP which is the best option for audio right now, maxes out at 768kbps.
There's a nice and consice article here that briefly goes over the technical details:

  • Measuring Velocity with Digital Input

I am not very familiar with digital inputs and so am having trouble picturing this system. I will be starting from scratch but will have PXI chassis' available. I will have about 381 events. Event 1 will trigger acquisition, and over the next 10 - 20 ms, I need to capture the next 380 events. I don't need to know how long each event stays high, only the time in relation to the first event. I would like to catch any event that stays high for at least 1 microsecond.
Since it will require multiple chassis, I think I will just wire Event 1 to each chassis and so shouldn't have to worry about any syncing problems? A colleague has been looking at PXIe-6544 and 6545, but I'm not sure this is the right tool, and hoping there is a less costly alternative.
Hopefully someone can give me a kickstart in the right direction.

    Hi Deskpilot,
If you're looking at separate lines, then my previous idea would not scale so well (each X Series card only has 4 counters).  I like the idea of using an R Series board to do this and would suggest posting over at the Real Time Measurement and Control forum to double-check the feasibility.
If you had to do this with M/X Series boards, then the more efficient solution would be to use the Digital Inputs instead of counters.  The R Series should be more elegant but I thought I would type up the suggestion for M/X Series anyway:
We have a few M/X Series Boards that have 32 clocked digital lines (48 digital lines total, but only 32 support HW timing).  Depending on the board selection, you could sample the digital lines at 1 MHz (PXI 6224,  PXIe 6323) or 10 MHz (PXI 6254, PXIe 6353).  Then, in software you could determine which sample the rising edge occurs on and use this to timestamp when the event occurs.  The two options would respectively give you 1us or 100 ns resolution.
The X Series (623x) cards have built-in timing and triggering for the digital lines.  The M Series cards (622x) need to take in the clock from another source (you can use a Counter Output to create a 1 MHz or 10 MHz clock which can be triggered by your first event).
At 381 lines you'd require 12 boards.  Each board requires 2 terminal blocks for access to all of the lines.
Again, I recommend looking into the R Series board for your task, I just wanted to post another solution in case somebody comes along with a similar issue but with a few less lines.
    Best Regards,

  • Synchronize analogue inputs with digital inputs

    Dear fellows
I am using NI-DAQ, PCI-MIO-16E-4 (new name is 6040-E, I guess) with LabView 7.0. I am working on neuro-physiological signal acquisition. I have 16 analogue input channels and one digital input channel. Digital input is acquiring a TTL level signal that is a reference to the onset of a particular event. I want to synchronise both analogue and digital signals.
    Any suggestion?

  • Best way to add second monitor with HDMI input

I have a 24-inch Mid 2007 iMac.  Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo  Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM  Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB.  I need to add a second monitor, and while I'm at it, this new monitor will be an HDTV Monitor with an HDMI input.  My iMac has the original USB connections.  So I'm thinking an ethernet to HDMI adapter should do the trick.
Is this right?  If so, what supplier makes a good ethernet to HDMI adapter?

    Hi
I've always thought powered DVI (ADC) was introduced on the Gigabit Ethernet G4s, like your dual 500. It should be easy to check, as the graphics card has an extra power 'stub' which fits into an extra slot on the logic board, between the main AGP slot and the back of the computer. If all the gold connectors on the Radeon 9000 are seated, I think you must have powered DVI/ADC. If some are 'floating' above the logic board, you haven't.

  • Recommend a stereo with digital input

    Hi All,
I recently received an Airport Express for Christmas and now I want to upgrade my stereo with something that has a digital input. Is there something that you can recommend that has exceptional sound and is a good value for under $300 (including speakers)
    Thanks!

I find that all you need is a "Mini-plug audio input cable" (thanks Duane), and you can just plug your iTunes directly into your current stereo system via your Airport Express. Have you tried that? If so, have you experienced any loss in sound quality? Even though I love sound quality, I don't credit myself as an audiophile...

  • Audio Monitoring with Guitar input? HELP, please?

    Hi.
Running a MacPro, with Logic Pro 7.2.3. I have recently purchased an IK Multimedia STEALTHPLUG, to record electric guitar.
I am able to get the device to operate properly in Garageband, and Ableton Live 5. But, in Logic Pro, i cannot get the audio to be monitored through my USB speakers. I can only hear 'live' guitar/as i play it if i choose the Stealthplug audio 'driver' option in Audio Hardware and Drivers. In this case, the live guitar is heard through the headphones plugged into the Stealthplug's headphone jack. I can also hear the Logic softsynths through the headphones, as well as any audio tracks recorded. When i switch back to the Core Audio driver, i can hear the guitar tracks i've already recorded, as well as the synths. But, the switching back and forth is ridiculous, and Core Audio has to be 're-booted' each time.
But, i need/want to monitor ALL sound through the speakers. I've tried all manner of settings, but i get nada. Spoke with iKMultimedia, but they seem to be shirking responsibility now because the device works with other apps.
I've tried the Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, as well as System Preferences>Sound. No combination of settings work.
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

You need to setup an Aggregate Device in Audio/MIDI setup. Design it with the Stealthplug as the input and the speakers as the output. Then select that device as the I/O within Logic. (I'm not sure where that particular setting is located, since I'm not in the studio at the moment, but I'm sure that the process is described in the manual.)
    Good Luck!

  • Connecting to LCD Monitor with HDMI input

The Macbook Pro Comes with a DVI Cable(Haven't got it with me).Can anybody tell me if I need to get a DVI to HDMI cable to use a 32 Inch LCD Monitor? Thank You
Macbook Pro 2.16Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   MacBook Pro

    Hi J.Charles,
You've actually posted in the forum for the Mac Pro Desktop machine, but that's ok
The MacBook Pro doesn't come with a cable, you'll need to buy one. The MacBook Pro has a DVI port. DVI is a subset of HDMI, so you can either get a DVI to DVI cable and a DVI to HDMI adaptor, or a DVI to HDMI adaptor.
With regards to the question of if your LCD TV requires HDMI, since you haven't mentioned the brand/model, only the manual can tell you

The 'purists' buy seperate systems because it 'looks' like you have a system.
Bollocks. You buy component Hi-Fi to be able to match each component to your exact tastes and requirements and be able to upgrade one component at a time.
If you want to 'look' like you have a system (whatever that means) it would seem to me that the integrated boxen you propose are the prime choice.
I don't want to diss all-in-one systems, they have their place in the market, but to suggest that they are by definition better than seperate component systems is nonsense. I can match a Pioneer DVD player to a Rotel amplifier and hook up ASW Cantius speakers, cause I know Pioneer is good at optical players, Rotel makes excellent amps and ASW makes top-notch speakers. Try that when buying integrated. On the downside, I'll end up paying significantly more money and having components that differ 10mm in width and use different color leds 'n stuff- it's up to me to decide whether that's worth it.

  • Triggering an event with a digital input

    Hello all,
I'm writing my first Labview program.  I used an architecture I found on the forums here, and it has been very helpful in getting me started.  This architecture uses two while loops, one containing an event structure and one containing a case structure.  (This is a queued state machine architecture, I believe).
Part way through the programming, we decided we needed a sensor to make sure the part was in the test fixture during the test.  If the part is removed during the test, we'd like to safely stop the test.  So basically, I need to monitor a digital input (on an NI-USB-6525 module) and enter the "Stop" case if the digital input turns off.  I would also like to make sure this digital input is on before entering the "Start" case.  I don't care if the input changes state when the test is not running, nor do I care about its state during the "Exit" case.
I'm really not sure how to add this functionality to my "stop" case.  I don't even know if it's possible.  I've been researching DAQmx events, but I haven't found an example or answer that aligns with my particular problem.
I've attached my code.  It's incomplete right now - I still have a large number of steps to add.  I wanted to get this issue figured out before I programmed any more steps.  A preview of the code showing the basic architecture is shown in the picture below.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for me, or questions if my problem is unclear?  Also, if you see anything else in my code that will be problematic, please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!

I should also add that I looked into event dynamic registration, but it seemed incompatible with my issue.  I don't want my top loop to run only when an event triggers it - I want it to run all the time so that it can immediately respond to button presses. Also, most of the triggering I found was based on value change.  I care about the actual value, not just that it changed.
I don't want to do anything that will bog the code down too much since it is important that the system respond immediately to inputs, especially to the stop or exit button presses.
I'm sure I am missing something very basic here.  I'm used to ladder logic, where everything is simple and straightforward.

  • Measuring PWM duty cycle with Analog Input

    Hello folks,
I have a NI 9205 module and was wondering if there was a way to measure the duty cycle of a PWM signal that I am generating with a separate microcontroller?  I have found a lot of examples with Digital inputs but not analog.. Is this possible?
    Thank you,
    Bob

    Hi Robert,
I'm not sure what that error is, try searching for it.
If you want to measure a PWM signal you would usually use a counter input.  A counter is a dedicated piece of hardware that is used to measure digital signals.  Since the NI 9205 is an analogue device and it doesn't have any counters onboard, you will not be able to select counter input.
I would recommend you get the right tools for the job and buy a digital acquisition device with an onboard counter.  It will make reading PWM much easier for you.  The NI 6008 has a counter onboard and is only £99.  It will also offload processing from software to hardware since you don't have to calculate duty cycle.
If you still want to use analogue post back and we can look into why its not working for you.  Tips to start you off: Voltage is the correct setting and  Look in the manual and make sure you have connected it like you have configured it (differential, RSE, NRSE page 14)

  • Connecting a regular Monitor with DVI

I'm wondering if I can connect a pc-monitor to the apple TV using a HDMI-DVI cable?
Instead of using a TV I want to use a pc-monitor with DVI input.
Is this possible or do I have to connect really a TV?

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
There would be a couple of issues to overcome. One is already mentioned by JG, HDCP is often not supported by DVI, you would need to check. Then there's a resolution issue the GPU of the tv may not support the native resolution of a large monitor, also your picture may or may not fill the screen and WS tv is 16:9, WS monitors are typically 16:10. Finally DVI doesn't carry audio so you would need to take care of audio in another way.
It's not impossible, there are those that use them with the tv, but you would need to check your particular monitor would work.

  • M-Audio Studiophile AV 40 monitors with imac optical digital out

I'm looking to purchase these monitors for my imac or ones very similar to them and was wondering how I go about hooking them up to the imac. I've read that I would have to use a mini-TOSLink cable to use the optical digital out, but how do I go from that to the RCA on the back of the monitors? Do they make a mini-TOSLink cable to RCA cable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, the AV 40 inputs are line-level analog RCA; they 'don't understand' digital audio,
and the conversion requires more than a cable -- you'd need an D-to-A converter.
You could run an analog signal to the monitors with just a cheap miniplug-to-RCA
(analog) adaptor from Radio Shack; but if you want to use the iMac's digital output,
you'll need some sort of external digital-to-analog conversion hardware.
I don't know of any inexpensive stand-alone TOSLINK-to-analog converters, but
there are many USB-to-audio products that would allow you to feed digital audio
from the iMac to the AV 40's -- but through a USB port, rather than TOSLINK.
Search for "USB audio" on amazon.com and/or newegg.com.

  • Samsung Monitor acting strange when connected with digital cable.

I have a Powermac G5 dual 2.7 GHz desktop. I am connecting a Samsung 2233BW monitor. When I connect the monitor from its digital connection using the digital cable I have a problem bringing the monitor back from sleep mode. I get horizontal jagged lines. When I turn the monitor off and back on it works fine again. When I connect the monitor from its analog connection and analog cable using a converter the monitor does not have this problem. Its not the monitor because I had Samsung replace the first one and I still have the problem. Someone told me it was a firmware problem, but Apple support says since no updates show up when I run software updates that everything should be ok. Is there something I can do or do I just have to live with the analog connection?

Have you opened the Mac up lately to see if the graphics card is clear of dust and not overheating?
Does this happen when you first boot up your Mac and then put the monitor to sleep?
Is the monitor set up to default to the digital input?
Most importantly, is it safe to presume that you have tried a new cable?
